  • More Than Just an Amp
The PT15 I.R. is the world’s first truly hybrid amplifier, marrying classic tube circuitry with a reactive load and digital impulse response technology.
With the PT15 I.R. we set out to combine the strengths of both analog and digital to create something new. The addition of a built-in Reactive Load and on-board impulse responses, make using a speaker cabinet optional for recording, or feeding front of house with a studio quality mic’ed up tone. Also included is a headphone output and auxiliary input to practice and jam along with your favorite tracks, wherever you are.
The all-tube three channel design offers a plethora of American and British tones, powered by a new 6V6 driven power section. The dynamics, overdrive, saturation and harmonics that we crave as tonal purists, is all here. By adding channel assignable IRs, you now have unprecedented versatility and control over your tone, expanding your choices more than ever before.

There's no better person to review this amp than you, Pete! Great job.

I bought this amp the day it was released. I use it in 4CM with a Fractal FX8 straight to the board. No speaker cab. One of the things Pete talked about in the video but didn't really stress just how cool it is is the ability to push the power tubes. Right around 6 on the channel levels you can hear the gain structure change. The amp doesn't get much louder at all after 6 it just crunches up, compresses, and sustains! Channel 1 is really cool! I set the gain on 4 and the level on 6with the bright switch on. This gets you just into a bit of power tube breakup. If you like your clean sound compressed this setting will work great. I can roll the guitar volume back a bit for a crystal clean tone. Channels 2 & 3 are the same with different gain and level controls. These channel's have plenty of gain! I run channel 2 gain on 3 and channel 3 gain on 5 with both level controls on 6 and bright switches off. Lots of clarity on channel 2, plenty of sustain with the level on 6. Channel 3 is hot rodded marshall!
I play in a top 40 coverband. We cover a ton of ground and this amp works! My old amp is a Bogner Ecstasy Classic. The Ecstasy was hard to replace. It's sounds really fantastic! but after 7 years of lugging it and a 2X12 cab around the PT15IR is a welcome change!!!

Very cool. Something I would like to know.. how big does the amp sound in person? How is the headroom? I am really interested in this amp. The IR's are very cool to have.

@@motrock2 There is a surprising amount of headroom on all three channels. This amp is LOUD! I bought it sight unseen just going by what Pete put out there. If you live near a dealer definitely go play the amp!

@@RalphMercuroMusic Thanks man. Thats is really cool to hear. Would you say that it almost feels like a 50 watt amp? Sounds like it! I always worry about 15-20 watt amps sounding small. Very cool to hear that it is loud. Loud is the only way to be! LOL

@@motrock2 It does feel like a big amp. I've had other lower wattage amps like a Blues Jr. and a Classic 30. Both good amps but I missed the thump you get with higher wattage amps. I've played three amps that are low wattage but still feel like big amps. The PT15, the Friedman JJ Jr, and the Soldano SLO 25. All three are just fantastic! I went with the PT for a few reasons. 1 it has three channels and I rely on that in my band, 2 the reactive load and built in IR's. I run the amp straight into my mixer and monitor via in ears. 3 the weight. It's only 24 pounds! My previous amp (Still have it) is a Bogner Ecstasy Classic. Killer amp and perfect for my top 40 cover band but it's heavy and requires a cabinet... Since we're on ears there's no need for a cabinet on stage...

Loving my PT15. I find myself bouncing back & forth with the bright switches on ch 2/3, depending on the guitar. Such a great amp.

This would be the perfect amp to use mimicking one of those flashy old TV infomercials. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!
It's a lot to unbox but clearly the core is a 3 channel amp built to compete with the best of the best and the internal load/IR capabilities take it to a whole new level.

That is a great sounding guitar and amp thats packed with versatility, it really seems like a one and done amp. Pete you have a great ear for knowing what works, I really am blown away by the tones just dialed in without pedals since I'm not really a huge pedal guy (no offense to those that are). I've been saving and shopping for a new one and done amp and this is most definitely on top of my list. Great job Pete and Suhr.

Excellent Demo. This might be the best one I've seen on this amp. Of course, having Pete there in person makes all the difference! Seriously, the way he demos the amp's functions and tones at various levels, channels, the bright switch, the IR's - very helpful. I am on the fence regarding the 6V6 tubes, being an EL 34/Marshall guy. But this demos some tones that are VERY close to Marshall-esque, even if not exactly at JCM 800 or Plexi tone. The cleans are wonderful, though. Plus, it would have helped if he used something other than his guitar...wonderful guitar, I played one at your store last year - but it's just not a Les Paul which I play and am used to. Would love to hear a LP through this thing; I imagine others will say the same about Strats. This amp clearly is the most flexible and technologically advanced REAL amp on the market, for both live and recording work. With a price to reflect that...but, as others have said, it might be the one amp to end the search. Well, that's another story... :+) But thanks folks, very well done and very helpful!

For me "The Groomed Noodler" IR sound is just so articulate once you get the gain balance right. Seals the deal for me. I've heard nothing but praises from owners and John Suhr attention to quality inspires a lot of confidence. Great playing, Pete. A lot of signature amps come and go, but this is the only one I can think of that continues to evolve. Most amp companies are one and done. I would love to see if an Ian Thornley tonal palette could be accomplished in this form factor as a signature amp. A modified "Hedgehog IR" if you will.

Hello Peter. I am quite sure your amp is what I have been looking for having sold my Mesa Mark IV in the name of quieter home recording comfort. I now have Laney IRT Studio amps x 2, an IRT SLS hybrid which actually sounds great through an FRFR speaker. An L5T 5 watt combo with G12H and an L20T 20 watt with G12H and a V30. All are EL84 based apart from the SLS but different configuations. My question is am I better with a standard PT15 and buying the Reactive Load separately. I didn't mention I have a Fryette Power Station also after spotting it regularly in your studio. I want to be able to use the IR's with any / all amps but appreciate how tidy the PT15IR is. This has probably been asked or mentioned before. Are they the same amp otherwise? I have never owned an amp with a master volume also.

I really like this amplifier I think it does just about everything you would want and look for in a great sounding tube amp but the price is a killer for me. My thing is I love vintage amps and I could buy the most badass Marshall Super Lead or Super Bass from the 1960s for what I can buy one of these for. Now some would argue yeah that's a vintage amp and you'll have to do this to it and you'll have to do that to it well any tube amp you're going to have to do maintenance in time, I don't give a crap about maintenance I do all my own work pretty much anyways - I love the new modern stuff but I have a real hankering for the old vintage stuff.

    • @PeteThorn
      @PeteThorn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

But Ron- I don't think you will find a good condition unmolested Marshall Plexi from the 60's for the PT15IR price ($2699), indeed I paid $1850 a few years ago for a 1972 (they are less) and it has a replaced transformer. and if you DID find one you'd have a great but LOUD amp with no channel switching, no state of the art reactive load, no DI IR capability, etc. It's sort of like saying hey, for the price of that Tesla Model 3 I can buy a nice 1965 Mustang.

The mic preamps on interfaces are digital, and this sounds like a digital mic preamp to me. I recently watched a video discussing how bit depth and waveforms are converted to digital, and how they reduce the noise floor. Basically they push the top end up, and suggest that humans can’t hear that range, 14k and above, to reduce the noise floor in the important ranges, 200-4K. But to me, it sounds like hammered shit. So bad that it’ll ruin everything you record, and there’s no way to get an authentic sound. I ended up buying expensive mic preamps and they saved the day. I did not want to part with the money, but really there’s no choice.
