    So cool! I am gluten-free but corn and rice also bothers me and I've just discovered sorghum doesn't so thanks for putting crunchiness back into my life!

    My vegan friends swear by nutritional yeast as a delicious substitute for parmesan. I can't wait to give this a try!

    LOL! Yes, a lot of people just think of Sorghum for cattle feed and/or syrup. We're working on changing that!
    FYI - you can't pop the sorghum they feed to cattle, it's the wrong variety. Plus that stuff isn't certified for human consumption so please don't try it!

    Hi there, thanks for the question. I forget I even have an accent!
    I've lived in several different countries so my accent is a mix of Australian, British and now with a little American thrown in for good measure!

    Hi there, thanks for your question!
    In the few years since we've posted this video, we've discovered that Popping Sorghum pops better and faster at a slightly higher temperature than we were using.
    We now recommend popping on Medium/High which equates to approximately 450oF or 232oC.
    Hope that helps! Happy Popping and let me know if you have any more questions. ~Jennie

    Thanks for your comment. :)
    Yes, you can absolutely pop Sorghum in the microwave. We do recommend that you use an actual Microwave Popcorn Popper, like the one we sell by NordicWare.
    A few extra tips:
    1. Sorghum pops best without the use of oil
    2. only use 1/4 cup
    3. take care of any unpops (just like with microwaved popcorn) as they may not be as toasted as unpops from a pot on the stove.
    Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. We're always happy to help.
    Jennie :)

    I just ordered ordered some sorghum from justpoppin with the intention of making tiny popcorn balls as appetizers for an open house! Do you find that most of the kernels pop when you make it? If not, do you think a colander with round holes would work for shaking out the unpopped kernels? Also welcome to any other suggestions :-)

    Hi there. No, at this time, we do not sell it already popped. We sell the popping sorghum grain so you can pop it yourself and flavor it as you like.

  • @JustPoppin
    @JustPoppin  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi there. Popped Sorghum makes excellent "popcorn" balls! You can make the balls regular size as well - it looks really cool with the tiny popped sorghum.
    Not all of the grains will pop, so if you want to sift them out, you could try a colander. It's difficult to find something with holes large enough to let the unpopped grains through but keep back the popped grains.
    We do sell a Sorghum Sifter on our website. Check out the video in our Channel of how it works.
    Thanks ~ Jennie

    I understand that the sumac sorghum, followed by the high tannin sorghums,then the black and red are the highest in anti-oxidants. The white sorghum is the lowest. What
    kind of sorghum do you use.

    Hi Saleh. In the video I used 2 teaspoons of olive oil (not extra virgin olive oil) and 1/4 cup of popping sorghum.
    You don't need to use much oil at all because the grains are so small.
    You can use other types of oil. We recommend high temperature oils like peanut, canola, coconut, safflower etc.

    what type of oil do you use and how much?

  • @JustPoppin
    @JustPoppin  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually, plain popped sorghum has the same amount of protein as plain popped popcorn! About 3g protein per ounce.

    As you can see, our Popping Sorghum used in the video is a white variety. We've actually just harvested our first plot of red Popping Sorghum which has been in development (plant breeding) for several years. If you're interested in purchasing some, please send us a message via the contact us form at our website (there's a link in the video description above).
