I think the A5 is one of the most beautiful cars out there. When I see one I can't take my eyes off it. I haven't felt that way about a car, since the 86 Porsche 944 Turbo's came out.
A friend of mine came round is his brand new RS5 yesterday. It was simply awesome. When he started it up it sounds like a WW2 bomber on LSD. The neighbours came out when they heard it. The car has so much torque, the interior is superb and has everything you would want in a car. Its truly amazing how you can shift the suspension settings at the flick of a button. The front disks are massive. Someone started clapping when they saw it. Simply a tremendous piece of engineering all round.
Is it just me or did anyone else see that as the car takes corners, the brake lights goes from side to side the more he turned??? THat is dam cool! Knight Driver here we come!
Sep 9th, 2011, I just bought Audi RS5. I just love this RS5, more than Mercedes Benz, SLK 55 AMG which I had before. Anyway, it's power 450ps, 4.2 litter, 32valve DOHC engine, and everything of this car is excellent !!
@Pr0dijel It's because of the rate at which LEDs blink, and the video that runs at roughly 30fps, they don't match up. In some other videos you'll notice that tail light LEDs or position LEDs in the front seem to blink or are completely off...
@willbio82 In the US, they are selling the RS TT, but in Europe, they are going to sell the RS5. So while they are producing 2 RS cars at the same time, they are doing it on different markets...
After a while you value your comfort. The 0-60 numbers are really a thrill at first and you always look to see what else you going to mod. I was tired of scraping the bottom of my last ride. I even broke my uberholt bar (to aid in handling) on a bump.. My recently purchased A5 is poor stock and I love the ride in Comfort. Not to say I won't tune her. Nothing is forever so we'll see. But since I paid for an Audi I savour the comfort and ride quality Audi intended for me. I definitely do not miss
@pfflyer15 I wonder too but I'm guessing they put a limiter on it because it would also require tires and brakes that can handle the extra speed and braking requirements. Whatever comes equipped on a factory RS5 probably can handle the regular 250kph limit.
@nismo007 count 2 years after the S model as usual so if the new S4 was presented in 2009 and selling as a 2010 model expect to see the B8 rs4 in 2011-2012
Did anyone else notice the tail lamps where having issues? Seems like after the brake indicators went off, the right tail lamp would have a pause before coming back on. Also I noticed some strange things going on with the left side. Times: 0:101:081:472:233:10
@SlimDen91 I know its because of the camera tech, but i just want that option in real life, The engine is a re-worked version of the old RS4/R8 V8 with an extra intake, its like the 350z going from vq35de to vq35hr.
@ski808 The way the LED lights appear is due to the way it is captured on Camera. Look at any video of cars with LED lights the "blinking" occurs on all cars with LEDS, it has nothing to do with the quality of the lights themselves
love the license plate which saids IN RS5 for Ingolstadt RS 5 which is where Audi is from but this an RS which will be hand built by Quattro GmbH which is in Neckrsulm near Porsche at Stuttgart.
@FalkenTube As others have said Audi has the RS6 to compete with the M5. This RS5 will be a likely base for the next RS4. It uses a new V8 that replaces the old 4.2 in the RS4 and R8.
@SSlovaku No, they both work. It's just how it shows up on camera due to it being a 100% LED tail light. LEDs flash a phenomenally high rate that the human eye cannot pick up, but most cameras do. On video they appear to be flashing or in some cases look to not be illuminated at all. If you see any new generation Porsche tail light on video they appear as if they're flashing, but in reality they're not...it's just how they show up on camera
If anybody says that these front an rear lights are not buggy but a feature of the actual sold version I would simply be astonished. I think that car had some critical issues within its electronical system.
@robbiekhandotcodotuk Even if I try to understand that, I simply don't see the point of this feature. At 0:16 to 0:22 where exactly is the accelleration or braking or cornering to cause that kind of lightgame. You might have I point, I admit that, but please try to understand my uncertainty about that concept.
@cyclingguy3 if your talking about the light flickering which i now think you are its not a design fault its because cameras struggle to pick up the light from them something scientific that i cant remember but they work fine in real life dont worry
the best Audi ever made I like the RS5 much moren than the R8, because the RS5 looks so beautiful, is so sporty and comfortable, too, and it sounds so brilliant
Does Audi still release an RS model exclusively (ie. only the RS5 now, and after it's cycle, the new RS4), or might we see the simultaneous availability of the RS4, RS5, RS6, etc? Thanks, guys!
@rasmusjbank Just to clarify, the human eye can percieve far grater rates, but the brain will generally interpret anything above around 25hz as constant motion :) The problem with a video camera is it has a FIXED image rate, and if you are unlucky you'll get 3 or 4 frames in a row where the LED happens to be off, leading to what looks like a blinking LED on the video :)
@justincrap M3 and RS5 are aiming at the same goal but with different approaches , so there is nothing wrong comparing it to the Beemer especialy the new one , E92 , which frankly isnt as much of a drivers car as E46 was....
@danielhaffa I am sorry i was wrong their 4WD Quattro system it was banned in BTCC ( british touring car campionship) after Frank Biela literaly destroyed the rest of the car with 1995 A4 touring. In 1996,when audi won 7 out of 7 championships (germany, sweden,UK,South Africa,Italy,Belgium,Spain,New Zeland) the quattro was banned in any touring or supertouring competetition.
@shaggyusm26 any car that has LED lights will do that on camera even topgear when they tested the ford gt and f430 and the pagani i noticed the same thing its not an issue with the car its because of the camera
2:55 im sorry but they only way an automatic gearbox can be as good as a manual is if it has a clutch pedal which you have to press in "manually" so that you can shift gears with a proper stick shifter "manually" in other words, as far as im concerned, no autobox will ever be as good or as awarding as a manual
@soundseeker63 couldnt have said it better... they should focus on the little things now... like being lightweight, or braking.. interior design... or maybe finding a way to get the price down
I work for Audi. The car is fantastic how it is. V10 is too heavy and physically too big for the car. Gearbox shifts 7 times faster than we can so improves performance. Also has launch control. USA getting the car soon so don't worry. Retail price about £65000 for the misano red car tested with HDD Nav and sports exhaust.
@westsideracerhori you are kidding, right? I have been going to the track 4 days a week and I have to say that RWD are fun but nothing beats a sophisticated AWD system. One great example is the GT-R R35 and now this RS5. I have driven the GT-R but not the RS5 yet. I don't know much about the sophisticated AWD systems but I know that the computer balances the torque equally at take off and then delivers most power to the rear so that it can pick up the speed faster on the straight.
got driven in one on saturday it was unberlivably quick i also went in the rs6 which was even better, i also went in the almighty r8 v10 which was out of this world
@FalkenTube dont audi only make one RS model at a time so the old RS4 would now be out dated and thus this car would fill that niche in the market as so to speak
@wideangle852 I may need to disagree with you here, the b5 rs4 is the best rs4 made, the twin turbo 2.7l v6 could be built into such a beast. Also, in my opinion it is on of the nicest looking cars still on the roads today.
@sup3rcars Its because they are LED's and the camera picks them up funny. At some angles on the same shot you can see the lights but others you can't. Well I think that is why it is anyway! :)
I think the A5 is one of the most beautiful cars out there. When I see one I can't take my eyes off it.
I haven't felt that way about a car,since the 86 Porsche 944 Turbo's came out.
that was a pretty car.... i agree

The front disks are massive. Someone started clapping when they saw it. Simply a tremendous piece of engineering all round.
Couldn't agree more
I've driven this car yesterday for my work, and the sound of the V8 is fantastic! It's also really easy to drive it at low speeds.
Is it just me or did anyone else see that as the car takes corners, the brake lights goes from side to side the more he turned??? THat is dam cool! Knight Driver here we come!
This is the best RS model ever made . Even the latest can't outsell it
The deep blip on the run through changing up is lovely!!
I have to admit, the shift roar at 3:27 is absolutely fantastic.
Sep 9th, 2011, I just bought Audi RS5.
I just love this RS5, more than Mercedes Benz, SLK 55 AMG which I had before.
Anyway, it's power 450ps, 4.2 litter, 32valve DOHC engine, and everything of this car is

Steve seems to be digging Audi's lately..had big praise for the TTrs as well.
@willbio82 In the US, they are selling the RS TT, but in Europe, they are going to sell the RS5. So while they are producing 2 RS cars at the same time, they are doing it on different markets...
I like how the tail lights "wink" at the camera. Fantastic looking car!
After a while you value your comfort. The 0-60 numbers are really a thrill at first and you always look to see what else you going to mod. I was tired of scraping the bottom of my last ride. i like how it sounds when it shifts. I imagine if you get aftermarket exhaust on it.
@mountjoy23 That's just the LED taillamps. Camera's can't pick up LED lights at certain frequency sometimes or they look like storbe lights on camer.
@SuperleggeraVW could have been talkin about actual electrical connection but your right about LED and cameras
@pfflyer15 I wonder too but I'm guessing they put a limiter on it because it would also require tires and brakes that can handle the extra speed and braking requirements. Whatever comes equipped on a factory RS5 probably can handle the regular 250kph limit.
Man that RS5 looks amazing from every angle damn!
@nismo007 count 2 years after the S model as usual so if the new S4 was presented in 2009 and selling as a 2010 model expect to see the B8 rs4 in 2011-2012

Times: 0:10 1:08 1:47 2:23 3:10
@1TheFaraoN1 they are LED, that have a hard time work with camera frequency to catch them.
@syahman89 it's LED lights u can't see them when camera shoots them with a little angle
is the v8 naturally aspirated?
@SlimDen91 I know its because of the camera tech, but i just want that option in real life,
The engine is a re-worked version of the old RS4/R8 V8 with an extra intake, its like the 350z going from vq35de to vq35hr.
@wazon8
Yes, because the FIA GT3 championships for which the R8 LMS was designed stipulates that no AWD cars are allowed.
@1through9athrewz maybe soon. the ttrs has been designated for American sale soon but the rs5 wont be here till 2012 i think.
the tail light works, but its LED, sometimes the cam cannot pick up the light, thats why sometimes you see no light or the light flicker
@ski808 The way the LED lights appear is due to the way it is captured on Camera. Look at any video of cars with LED lights the "blinking" occurs on all cars with LEDS, it has nothing to do with the quality of the lights themselves
put the engine and transmission in an a4 avant and set to awd to a 30-70 front rear bias to let the rear loose like an r8 v10
love the license plate which saids IN RS5 for Ingolstadt RS 5 which is where Audi is from but this an RS which will be hand built by Quattro GmbH which is in Neckrsulm near Porsche at Stuttgart.
4 seats, 444bhp, and autocar has 444 videos. what a lovely number.
The front grill is BRILLIANT!
Did Steve by any chance review the 2013 facelift with electric power steering? Would be interested to know if he still thinks it's great.
I know Steve is one of the best in the business, there are only a handful of motoring journalists in the world as gd as Steve in my mind.
I can't believe how good looking this car is.
And one point of consideration for AWD lovers: why Audi R8 which started at Nurburgring 24hRace was RWD? Any ideas?
When will this thing come to the states? I want to be able to buy one of these some day.
@FalkenTube As others have said Audi has the RS6 to compete with the M5. This RS5 will be a likely base for the next RS4. It uses a new V8 that replaces the old 4.2 in the RS4 and R8.

To those who don't know , the crystal led lamps have problems showing up on different camera angle's . The lamps are fine
@ReiTirona Any weather...really...rain and snow to?? Ever tried the Quattro?
If anybody says that these front an rear lights are not buggy but a feature of the actual sold version I would simply be astonished. I think that car had some critical issues within its electronical system.
What's with the lights at the back constantly going on/off when the car goes round corners?
@krulkntrdction actually they don't seel it at all since 2008. They are working on the new rs4 as we speak
The tailights are LED, they don't turn on/off at random, it just seems so because of the camera ;)
@robbiekhandotcodotuk Even if I try to understand that, I simply don't see the point of this feature. At 0:16 to 0:22 where exactly is the accelleration or braking or cornering to cause that kind of lightgame. @cyclingguy3 if your talking about the light flickering which i now think you are its not a design fault its because cameras struggle to pick up the light from them something scientific that i cant remember but they work fine in real life dont worry
Check this out. in the beginning the registration plate is IN RS 5015 and all the other times it is IN RS 5017?!
@eisenherz188 its the frequency, the camera cant recognise it. =)
@Waleed419 LED bulbs flash or fade when filmed! Its all to do with the frame rate or sumin.
I am a bit confused? Did Audi keep the old 4.2 V8 in the RS5?! In N.A. RS4 has the new turbo charged V6. Can anyone shed some light on this question?
@cyclingguy3 these LED's are as bright as any others only differance is the time of day and angle
@InitialDAmine I know! I just saw some pics of it, but it has a revised V10, not this V8. Even so, I love the new GT
how do you not love RS5. what a vehicle.
Dont forget the a5 s5 rs5 tts q7 q5's lights also are LED's
DID YOU SLEEP IN THAT SHIRT?
the best Audi ever made
I like the RS5 much moren than the R8, because the RS5 looks so beautiful, is so sporty and comfortable, too, and it sounds so brilliant

@LostChildOfTime 'Aside from it being a 4-door' ??? its a two door coupe, is it your sight or your english that lets you down?

Nice exhaust notes.
@stefanjorgensen
read other comments it is because of the camera and the LED lights on the car
@ThePhiltastic Its not ment to be a Track Care, the M3 is basically a track car. And lets see the M3 handle on snow and rain. AUDI!
+VaperBok75 The tail lights look strange because they are LEDs which have strange affects on cameras.
@ambient0902 They have been mate. There is the RS TT and the RS5.
Why are the tail lights lighting up inconsistently?
@Chil1i next summer?! how do you know? I was hoping by March.
@112namrepus I predict a supercharger, exhaust system and a new management unit. Always the same kit but it works. 550hp-580hp is my call lol.
@soundseeker63 couldnt have said it better... they should focus on the little things now... like being lightweight, or braking.. interior design... or maybe finding a way to get the price down
I love Audis. I drove a 2010 A6 and now i'm in love. end of story.
question before i buy this car does it have a feature or function letting you know when to change gears the mode to save gas
I drove a TTRS & RS5 Back to Back.... How do you choose?
@MrBAZAN88 they have one...they just don't sell it in the USA =(
I work for Audi. The car is fantastic how it is. V10 is too heavy and physically too big for the car. Gearbox shifts 7 times faster than we can so improves performance. Also has launch control. USA getting the car soon so don't worry. Retail price about £65000 for the misano red car tested with HDD Nav and sports exhaust.
is the audi S-tronic transmission the same as the tiptronic transmission?
@Dermo1985 Missed putting the word "not" in. Aside from that, I've been seeing this car a lot in San Fran. Shit is sweet.
@westsideracerhori you are kidding, right? I have been going to the track 4 days a week and I have to say that RWD are fun but nothing beats a sophisticated AWD system. One great example is the GT-R R35 and now this RS5. I have driven the GT-R but not the RS5 yet. is this car going to be available in the U.S.?
Love this coupe looks sleek and stylish and performs well audi is a lot better than in the 80's great improvement audi good job!
got driven in one on saturday it was unberlivably quick i also went in the rs6 which was even better, i also went in the almighty r8 v10 which was out of this world
@eurogq you're buy a V8 to save gas?
when he talked about the engine he did say it has 444 hp but he did mentioned the torque because he know it weak comparing to c63 or m3
@7477238 yeah probably, but they should get ahold of their brothers from Bentley and put some big carbon parts on it (ceramic discs)
@FalkenTube dont audi only make one RS model at a time so the old RS4 would now be out dated and thus this car would fill that niche in the market as so to speak
is the only difference between this and the rs4 that this is a coupe instead of a saloon?
@wideangle852 I may need to disagree with you here, the b5 rs4 is the best rs4 made, the twin turbo 2.7l v6 could be built into such a beast. Also, in my opinion it is on of the nicest looking cars still on the roads today.
Didn't they say that it would have a 5.2 Litre FSI V10 like the R8?
3:12 why went the right tail light off?
@buttnut1080 tbh they are kind of phasing out manuals... im looking for a next car and its hard to find a car i want with manual...
@007jbmusic Yeah, it's getting kinda confusing now. That's what happens when car companies keep get bought out by other car companies.
@sup3rcars Its because they are LED's and the camera picks them up funny. At some angles on the same shot you can see the lights but others you can't. Well I think that is why it is anyway! :)
@FalkenTube because they dont make the RS4 anymore and if they made it an m5 competitor they would undermine sales of the RS6
metallic black any better? (my favourite)
@mountjoy23 it's not brake light
put the engine and transmission in a4 avant and make the awd let the back lose like the r8 v10
@psychedelicfunkymonk well they are already breaking the rule of only one RS at a time by having both the RS5 and TT-RS available now.
