Brian Cooley does exceptional reviews. Informative, to the point, humorous and complete. After any of his reviews I know a car’s strengths and weaknesses and if I might be interested or not. Most other reviewers provide a kind of “vanilla” commentary, some are just empty opinion.
Why is everyone making a comment about the Prius passing Brian? Brian’s clearly not “on it”.... he’s just cruising along. Probably at the speed limit whereas the Prius was clearly speeding.
All moveable spoilers are designed to automatically deploy at the optimal downforce range (where it won't slow down the acceleration off the line, but will take advantage of the down-force needed to keep the wheels on the ground and make the torque more useable).
This is about as close you can get to an "Everyday Exotic" as you can get ( along with the AMG variants from Mercedes of course ) without breaking the Bank. I can vouch from personal experience that Bang & Olufsen Audio system is absolutely KILLER !!
I think you answered your own question; you mentioned autocross and track-days, so you actually had to turn the wheel a good amount while shifting. Column mounted paddles are for those who only need to shift while lane changing or going completely straight (which means the left & right hands stay on their own sides of the column). I do believe there are some cars that have paddles which shift both up or down depending on if you push or pull on them; I suppose these could be on the column
Absolutely love me 2014 rs5- One thing it seems like different reviews give different 0-60 times- I have seen 3.9 through 4.5 I think 4.5 is the right number.
actually the torque is quite normal for a naturally aspirated engine - given the displacement. the reason why the differnce between torque and horsepower seems so big is that it is a really high revving motor, redlines at just under 8500 if I remember correctly! so this car is not about cruising with low revs but thrashing it because that's where all the fun is
I have to admit that since the 2013 Audi S5 dual clutch received the crown gear center differential and torque vectoring system the gap between the S5 and RS5 is pretty small. When you look at the numbers, $20K for an extra 120HP, slightly larger rims and a few body style changes is a bit much. Not that I'm complaining since I just bought a 2013 Audi S5 and was really please I got the crown gear and torque vectoring at no cost.
As a guy with a little experience with autocrossing and track days with various cars over the years, I'm not sure I agree with Brian Cooley's long-time preference of having paddle shifters on the column vs. on the steering wheel. I've found it quite useful to have them move around on the wheel so they're always in position where my hands are positioned. I can't imagine them being any other way actually.
I was in switzerland (arosa) And omg everywhere nice cars on (autobahn ) i saw rs6 rs5 and s63 amg so beautifuk cars everywhere ;) loved it and the best was rs5 sound was impressive but the sound from c63 was like it wants to eat you
In terms of fuel economy, they forgot to mention that purchasing this vehicle won't require you to pay for gas guzzler tax as compared to its competitors like the BMW M3, AMG C63 and the Cadillac CTS-V.
Regarding your issue on the Delta between HP and Torque - the Infiniti G37 (3.7 V6) you reviewed last year has a motor that has is 330hp and 269 ft lb of torque - thats a big diff too.....
How so? Because I've watched his CLS reviews and they weren't too positive. He gives Audi's positive reviews because he likes the way they look, and they have some of the best tech in the business. Watch some more of his reviews, bud...
i mean i get that it has a different body kit and rims but i bet i can make it look the same with half of the money and apparently theres a company that has a special chip that cost around 1k and it boosts the performance of the audi s5 or a s4 and it goes on par with the rs5 and the rs4 so i mean i think its a better deal to get the s5 and get the chip and maybe do something to the body
I recently purchased a 2013 Audi S5 (not RS5) cabriolet prestige. 333 HP V6 Supercharged. It supposedly does 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds. Plenty fast for my wife. I have a 2011 Cadillac CTS-V for my 3.8 0 to 60 fun. Love the Audi though. It replaces our 2001 S8, miss that car.
Well, to reply, the RS5 is definitely a new add to the competition between the BMW M and Mercedes Benz c63 AMG marques. As a German car in 2014 that still features a raw NATURALLY ASPIRATED 450 Hp V8 in a time when many manufacturers are moving to Twin Turbo/Bi- Turbo and supercharged applications, it is definitely remarkable feat. This car is definitely not going to be a Corvette or Viper, but when you talk about refined and precise handling, the best Dual Clutch Automated Manual transmission in business, and exquisite aggressiveness in an understated manner but upscale manner, this car will be great competition, especially when the new M4 comes out, with a 425 Hp Twin Turbo V6. The RS4 is definitely not competition, since the current ones wagons.
its not just how much PEAK torque you have that matters - but also how much of it is on tap. a good turbo engine like BMW or Porsche will have peak torque available from about 2,000 to 5,000 rpm - in other words pretty much everywhere. this audi's peak torque is from 4,000 to 6,000 rpm which means it is inaccessible in normal driving where you rarely hit 4,000 rpm. so you won't be able to enjoy this engine without losing your license in the process.
Viper has 600 of each, not 400 ... this Audi only has 317 torque ... so while Viper has double the displacement of this Audi it also has double the torque ...
Who hates the car, lol? A lot love it, only low lifes who live in a basement would jump on this car and hate it. They haven't even driven it I mean the only problem it has is understeer. I've seen a white one, with the titanium package, near my neighborhood and got a good close up look of it. It is beautiful.
Why wouldn't you want the paddles on the wheel? That way they are always under your hands when you are turning the wheel. Makes sense to me. *watches Brian shuffle his hands while going around a corner* Oh.
Paddles on the column? :-S He states that because he is shifting the wheel through his hands like a learner driver. NOT what you are taught in high speed driving where you never release hands and crossing arms is the norm....
hi !! brian i love your all video, spacially this one, may be i watched more then you, lol, but i never understand why would u say in the beginning ( audi rs car is answer to amg and m and do u need one u said NO) why did u said would u say NO ?? why wouldn't we need one of those........
You don't sit on youtube comment slot and ask for opinions kid, you go to the dealer, testdrive or experience both cars, see which one would fit you for your lifestyle and which one would fit your needs and than you make a decicion if you wana spent 80,000$+ on a car that will drop very hefty in price. Trust me, if you're ever going to buy a car, TH-cam is the LAST place you ask for advice. There is too many unexperienced 12 year olds arround here.
Mikolaj Lukasik Because electric cars and hybrid cars have more tax benefits. Its much cheaper too drive them in the city and the goverment doesnt charge as much car and motor vehicle taxes.
Stingray has a better interior? That must be a joke. Just compare the images. Plus audi uses much better materials. You can use the S5 for a regual driving to work or to do some smaller shopping. On the other hand, you can't put a single suitcase in the boot of vette. Lets sum it up - audi is +- same quick, more economical, comfortable, practical, better looking inside and in my eyes the exterior looks better too, it's probably better build and it costs the same.
This car is perfection...especially in that color.
Brian Cooley does exceptional reviews. Informative, to the point, humorous and complete. After any of his reviews I know a car’s strengths and weaknesses and if I might be interested or not. Most other reviewers provide a kind of “vanilla” commentary, some are just empty opinion.
He is missed greatly
Why is everyone making a comment about the Prius passing Brian? Brian’s clearly not “on it”.... he’s just cruising along. Probably at the speed limit whereas the Prius was clearly speeding.
Insanely beautiful.
Brian thanks for the great review. I don't know why so many here hate this car. It's beautiful, luxurious, teched, awd, v8...
If you were to hold the steering wheel properly, you would find the paddles are located just where they need to be
I love this car. Great review, Brian. You're one of my favorite car/tech reviewer on Cnet, next to Dong Ngo.
love how the plastic engine cover was loose....lol
Man that car is beautiful
All moveable spoilers are designed to automatically deploy at the optimal downforce range (where it won't slow down the acceleration off the line, but will take advantage of the down-force needed to keep the wheels on the ground and make the torque more useable).
5:14 PASSED BY A PRIUS...
Who do u think is taking front/ rear video? dumbass?
still got passed by a prius, and interrupted the shot...dumbass
Ereek if you're going slow enough yeah
I just raced a new RS5 around a track. It only had 2300 miles on it. It was very nice!
This is about as close you can get to an "Everyday Exotic" as you can get ( along with the AMG variants from Mercedes of course ) without breaking the Bank. I can vouch from personal experience that Bang & Olufsen Audio system is absolutely KILLER !!
man this is a beautiful car!
Ahhhh... I miss those gorgeous San Francisco Bay Area back roads especially now that I live in flat-Nebraska lol

Thank You CNET!

A "mouse" motor was a small block, "rats" were big blocks...
Why is the engine cover loose?
The vehicle of my dreams
What a beauty
such a gorgeous one!!
dont you just love how cnet's idea of responding to an unhappy viewer base is disabling comments?
Nice Video. Good Presenter.
Brian, you are one of the best car reviewers on youtube. keep it up
The spread between torque and HP is similar to that of the V8 M3.
Sublime. Beautiful wheels.
@5:14 yea get passed by a Prius!

Because its EPA ratings exceed the requirement for a gas guzzler tax while those other 3 cars do not...
i mean i get that it has a different body kit and rims but i bet i can make it look the same with half of the money and apparently theres a company that has a special chip that cost around 1k and it boosts the performance of the audi s5 or a s4 and it goes on par with the rs5 and the rs4 so i mean i think its a better deal to get the s5 and get the chip and maybe do something to the body
Wow I love those lights

and it's 431hp
At 5:51 the Prius is already on the return trip home. lol.
yea exactly, torque and bhp, don't need 9 liters to get 400 of each
"One more kick back on the wheel" lol WHAT? Where's the MPG?
I love this car
"Testosterone laden competitors"
Prius passes ftw lol jk

the point i was trying to make is that horsepower per liter is not everything. its the performance that counts, not how you achieve it.
looks like fun
first time brian cooley couldnt find a fault in the car!! :)
Nothing like those high revving v8's
This is a beast!
I want an Audi. :(
The front grill looks like a Bee Hive, if you have a long distance drive, for sure it will catch all the buds.
Yea you are right, well done dude.
Why does no one here know what they're talking about?
SenszR if I ruled the world everyone would know what they are talking about...
Brian + Audi sitt'n in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g
Is this a good first car it is only around 20k now
Viper has 600 of each, not 400 ... this Audi only has 317 torque ... so while Viper has double the displacement of this Audi it also has double the torque ...
but this has all wheel drive, which is important in rain and snow.
does it come in a 4 door variant too?
Who hates the car, lol? A lot love it, only low lifes who live in a basement would jump on this car and hate it. They haven't even driven it I mean the only problem it has is understeer. *watches Brian shuffle his hands while going around a corner*
Oh.
gotta love audi
im thinking about buying either this or the c63 amg, any suggestions ?
Gorgeous. $80,000 starts to get into the high-end almost exotic car territory.
Dream car
true :) but you cant get around that its a plus
that color!
Yeah, but you will have to pickup the new BMW-lingo; if you are talking about the High-performance coupe, you should be calling it the M4.
Things that go vroom
Hey genius so with what does the rs4 competes with if you say the rs5 competes with the m3
settle down phil
cooley!!!
Paddles on the column? :-S He states that because he is shifting the wheel through his hands like a learner driver. NOT what you are taught in high speed driving where you never release hands and crossing arms is the norm....
American 'engineers' observe, a) the size of the engine, b) the power it produces. You do not need an 8 liters to make 400bhp
Noticed that too. The RS4 Avant used carbon fiber, wonder why this car didn't.
is 0.5 sec faster than the S5 really worth the 20Grand?? im not really sure about that
Are you feeding the steering wheel???
DCT? No. DSG. It is not a continuous torque unit.
I believe the RS4 competes with the M3 sedan and the RS5 competes with the M3 coupe or what will now be the M4 pretty soon.
The Audi RS4 comes only as an Avant, it competes more with AMG C63.
More importantly, we don't get the RS4 in the US.
Because people that buy these sort of cars care about that sort of thing ;)
what about Torque ?
You were about to be passed by a Prius lol
Whatever floats your boat, but I'm telling you, the premium over the S5 is well justified.
they do it all the time. they say "comments have been disabled for this video"
K. thanks for the life lesson
Wow this car is so legit.
Oh that's interesting 2013 model reviewed in 2013
hi !! brian i love your all video, spacially this one, may be i watched more then you, lol, but i never understand why would u say in the beginning ( audi rs car is answer to amg and m and do u need one u said NO) why did u said would u say NO ?? why wouldn't we need one of those........
The profile of the car looks like the old Quatro coupes.
Im Surprised they don't offer manual
Why's that?
You don't sit on youtube comment slot and ask for opinions kid, you go to the dealer, testdrive or experience both cars, see which one would fit you for your lifestyle and which one would fit your needs and than you make a decicion if you wana spent 80,000$+ on a car that will drop very hefty in price. Rat motor? No, mouse motor. The Rat was the big block
whats cooley's daily driver?!?
need one
audi should redesign A5 or removed two rear doors of A7 and that would look just awsome and luxurious.
Beautfiul car!! 76.000 dollars is nothing though... In the Netherlands the starting price is 126.640 EURO...
But all you're taxis are tesla's
Gotta pay for that "free" healthcare somehow!
Mikolaj Lukasik Because electric cars and hybrid cars have more tax benefits. Its much cheaper too drive them in the city and the goverment doesnt charge as much car and motor vehicle taxes.
KiloByte72 Healthcare isnt free here.. We pay more than 100 euro per month for it.
But teslas every where come on!!!
Stingray has a better interior? That must be a joke. Just compare the images. Plus audi uses much better materials.
