    This is the litter box system we use. It is a modified version of Susan Youngman’s (Victorian Gardens Cattery) brilliant system she created. Sharing this for those looking to use an incredible, NO smell, inexpensive, safe litter for their cats. Many have tried pellets, but say they didn’t work for them. I believe it is HOW you use the pellets. I designed this system based off of the Victorian Gardens Cattery system. I modified it and made it a bit less expensive. So easy, so safe, so clean. No dust! I spend $12.00 per year on cat litter.
    I glued PVC pipe feet onto the bottom of the Arm and Hammer sifting box for headspace. I used E6000 glue from the hardware store. More headspace = more space for urine waste. Stir urine waste and scoop and flush solid waste. No bags. I dump the pad with the urine waste about once per week. Add more pellets once per month. I have added videos to show how simple it is. The Arm and Hammer box comes with an extra box that is not needed with this system. I donated them to a local cat rescue.

      I used her method in this video using cement mixing tubs from Home Depot. $7.88 for each tub. Super cheap. Drilled holes in the sifting one and the XL pee pads fit perfectly in the bottom. My cats love them because there's plenty of space for them.
      I'll never go back to clay.

    I am doing this new system to be more "green." The blue pads add to the type of item we have MOST in the landfills, diapers. Non biodegradable. I guess w out the pad you just pour contents into trash and wipe down the bin?

    • @FromTheHeartOfRose
      @FromTheHeartOfRose 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I'm with you. I can put cat litter pine pellets in the green bin to compost but not pee pads. I'm trying a layer of parchment paper then a couple layers of newspaper for the bottom pan liner. There has to be a better way than more garbage.

      Just pour a scoop of pellets in the bottom to absorb any pee that goes through. They'll expand and just add to the sawdust that falls through.

    • @carmaela2689
      @carmaela2689 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, the puppy pad just makes it a bit quicker to clean up but it seems that the sawdust isn't that moist and slides right out of the box. You could just dump it and give the bottom pan a quick wipe down with a disinfectant and paper towel or just rinse it and air dry it.

    • @heyitshay297
      @heyitshay297 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly just use 4 litter boxes and put enough pine pellets to cover the bottom and just add to it until I feel like sitting the sawdust lol. I usually end up sifting them with the scooper every 1.5 to 2 weeks and obviously scoop the poops everyday. It usually takes me an hour or 2 when I do it so I sit and watch a movie on my phone while I do it 😂. I'm currently looking for a faster way to do this

      You don’t need the pee pads. They are expensive and terrible for the environment. You could either do this system without anything at the bottom (just dump the bottom tray and wipe it out every so often), or you can line it with newspaper/flyers.

    Nice video! I’m loving this system as well, just wish there was a bit more space under the box. Maybe I could double-deck the pvc 🤔. I’ve also tried with puppy pads and without and, although I love the ease of the pad, I’m going to stick with not using them for the earth. I also read cat feces should never be flushed. I was so excited about that option, but after reading more about it have decided not to do that. I will never go back to clay litter! I just wish they made a bigger box of this exact type. I tried a diy with some plastic tubs, but the dust doesn’t filter out as well.

    • @raganrose6642
      @raganrose6642  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      So glad you like it! You can raise the box to any height you like. Check the comments. If you used the flat caps, you just get the smaller pvc and cut it to your desired height and slip it right into the end caps you glued on to the sifter box. Easy peasy. As far as the flushing of cat feces...There is no actual evidence that flushing cat feces damages the ecosystem in bodies of water. In fact, there is a study that indicates that cat feces do nothing of the sort. Check the comments for the study that was posted. Cheers!

      It’s what IN the poop that’s dangerous, not the poop itself. Look up toxoplasmosis. It’s the reason why pregnant women should not handle cat feces. It survives water treatment cycles and ends up in waterways and the ocean and kills marine life.

    Thank you SO MUCH for making this video! One of my cats has diabetes and he urinates so much that he floods the litter boxes and cleaning them had become really difficult, plus I was wasting so much pine litter! I just bought and setup the litter boxes like this this week and it has truly been a game changer in a matter of days. I just need to see if they have some type of diaper genie for cats since I read that flushing cat feces could potentially damage plumbing and that toxoplasma could be spread to drinking water if the water filtration system is unable to eliminate it. Recently adopted two siblings kittens and used clumping litter for the first time. Was definitely not a fan. After much research came across your video. I decided to give it a try. I lifted the sifter with 1 1/2 “ high rubber leg stompers until I knew the kittens would adjust and that I liked the system. Oh my gosh. I cannot believe how easy it is to clean. No more tracked litter or worse, stuck to them. No litter smell. Can flush the poop. Takes a couple minutes tops a day and that’s cleaning it twice a day. Incredibly easy to dispose of the sawdust and best of all, besides the no smell part, it’s unbelievably economical. Wish I had known about this back in the day when I had five cats! I’m ready to purchase the flat end caps, pvc and the E6000 glue. What diameter pvc have you found works the best? Thank you so much for doing this video. Please remember cat owners, that if your cat goes outside at all, catches mice that get in, or eats raw, DO NOT flush your cat's poop down the toilet. Water treatment plants all ask that this not be done, because most cats that eat raw meat of any kind, but especially of mice, have toxoplasmosis which can contaminate treated water supplies. That means it can harm people who get that treated water back, but mostly babies, especially before birth. If your cat is strictly indoors however, and doesn't catch mice or eat raw, then the likelihood of them having toxoplasmosis is very low, and it should be okay.

      Second of all, the end caps were able to be purchased in the past at a hardware store. They can be found on Amazon now. They can also be purchased on Home Depot for $1.97 each. You do need the end caps that are flat on top to adhere to the box. I have no idea why your husband purchased putty. I have only used E6000 glue and have never mentioned anything but in my responses to questions.
      As far as the glue goes, I would set the end caps on with glue and put the other litter pan on top and set heavy books on it to set it. I let it sit overnight and I haven’t had any problem with glue causing issues with seeping.

    Why not use a garage bag instead doggy pads? Just pull up the garbage bag like you would from a garbage can.

    I thought you weren't supposed to flush cat poop down the toilet?

    Ragan, you can flush that pine sawdust down your toilet, & avoid adding all that plastic waste to our landfills. Take it from an engineer, the toilet can handle all of your cat's waste, urine, feces, & sawdust. The rest of your concept is golden.

    There is NO NEED to be using environmental waste much less cost of the pee pad/ diaper! Direct from extra tray below into container or recycled plastic bags !!!

    Thanks for doing this video! I'm going to transfer from Kitty litter to the pine pellets and I'm going to do exactly what you show, except I'm not using the puppy pads. I have litter liners which are like mini kitchen trash bags and they are so convenient. I don't worry about the earth because I read the Bible and in Revelation God gives specifics on how the earth will be destroyed...and it doesn't have anything to do with trash, the climate, the ozone, carbon, etc. It's God's earth and He has plans to destroy it in His timing according to His plan. Amen! I've trusted Jesus as Lord of my life and I know I don't have to worry about destroying the earth. I'm a good steward of what God gave us, but plastic bags it is!

    It was all great till you flushed it. Can't flush cat poop in the toilet. Cat poop may contain a parasite called Toxoplasma.
