    This is the best DYI sifting cat litter box video designed for using pine pellets I have encountered on TH-cam, and I have watched many... Good job!

    Plastic stopper, The larger ‘duplo’ LEGO bricks come in different heights, making good washable stoppers. Also, if one has a tall cat, the cut top portion/ lid can be attached to original to male it higher at the top & afford more height. Thanks for the idea mate!

      That’s what I’m trying to figure out, to make the box higher cause I still want to keep the lid on. How can I attach the cut top portion to the box, please any solutions? 😭

    Thank you very much for this video! This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for... a COVERED sifting litterbox. Just got a couple of kittens recently and want to switch them to pellets after all the good things I've heard about them; cheap, eco-friendly and healthier! 🎉
    The only thing I would add is that after sifting you can place the bin on the lid that's not in use, so you're not cleaning the place you set it down as well.
    P.S. I'm in T.O. as well.

      Covered litter boxes may seem like a good idea for people but they really aren't good for the cats. Since it's more enclosed, the kicking of litter around can lead to more respiratory problems

      @@xxviciousbeautyxx my cats don't bury their poop, sadly i can not use open litter boxes as that cover is the only thing that keeps my apartment from reeking of cat shit :(

    May I suggest that you put a doggy pee pad between the bottom and top tray - when bottom is full just gather corners of pad and dispose of the waste and then there is no cleaning of bottom tray. Also that saw dust is compostable.

    Fantastic idea!!! Best video by far. I’ve been looking for a sifting litterbox online, not only can I not find a covered one, but the ones I did find with no cover are SO expensive!! I’m gonna buy purple or pink plastic bins now and make this 😀 not only will it be cute but affordable, thanks!

    Has anyone else tried this?
    I commend this guy for the idea and sharing. For me personally, I wish I'd just spent the money on an actual sifter box instead, lol.
    I bought two bins on sale, so spent a total of ~$20, but the time/energy/effort I spent didn't seem worth saving a few extra dollars. And mine looks pretty rough, lol. Saving my time and effort would've been worth the proper $30-60 box. I guess maybe I'm not as handy as some.

      Hi. Had I found a sifting litter box for $30 I would’ve bought it too! Cheapest I could find at the time was well over $60. You get better at these types of projects the more you do ‘em. Keep going!

    Hmm.. I think I finally found a use for caps from old prescription bottles. They can substitute the lids.

    Thank you for your informative video! I was wondering about the drill bits you used. You started with one then switched and said the second was much better. Can you please tell me what type of bit that was?

    Awesome video, any updates on how it’s working? Or things you would do differently? I would suggest using a trash liner on the bottom, that way you don’t have to worry about glued down plastic piece or golf balls getting dirty. Also super easy clean up, one less tray to wash on refresh day. I like the golf ball idea, no sharp corners to tear at the liner. I was thinking of using old coffee pods upside down and glued in the corners, for some height. Also think I’ll do a top opening since my cats are used to that already. 😸

      Thanks for the ideas. It’s been working fine. If I did it again, I’d use even bigger bins.

    I'd purchase 3-4 of those cut a hole in the lid and make it so that one can sift into the other so you can remove the one with the pool go dump it wash it out and place it in the bottom so that one sifts into the other and you won't have to touch the litter

    Pro tip- wait until the cat is out of the box before shaking it.

  • @victorm7274
    @victorm7274 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That’s a great idea. Unfortunately there’s a flaw. When it’s time to return the litter to the box which has hole in it. You’ll have litter everywhere until you can get the bottom tray back underneath. I’m thinking with a second bottom tray would fix that issue. 👍🏼

    • @Sydneydna
      @Sydneydna 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was thinking that too! But the store bought ones are the same, no? Maybe line the bottom with a trash bag so you can just lift up the bag and pour it back in.

    • @kevingrierson2331
      @kevingrierson2331 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A third cut down bin could be made and then stack it underneath until it is time to switch them out. This way you have two trays to rotate through the process.

    For those of us cutting corners in the cost, some suggest using puppy pea pads in the bottom bin, which are an expensive addition. I question whether the sawdust will clump and therefore, not go down the holes! I think one is supposed to shake and sift the box to move the sawdust through, if the litter box is large and on the heavy side it may be hard to do that. But worth a try I think! How did it work for you?? TY a great video!

    When drilling inward did it not push the plastic upward and make sharp edges where the holes are ?

    • @JeffWillProfess
      @JeffWillProfess  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not really. Maybe in a couple of spots. If you’re concerned, a quick sanding would take care of that.

    How about 1/2" PVC piping to run in the channel down the length of the bin, I'll try that approach.

    Do any of the pellets fall thru? Or only sawdust? Would you recommend a liner at the bottom for easier cleanup?

    • @JeffWillProfess
      @JeffWillProfess  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Some pellets do, but rarely. I just rinse the bottom but a liner could help! Good idea

      It works pretty well. The tray needs cleaning more than I expected but it works. Thx for the question

  • @cottintailmzhiwens7562

    Just wondering, after you shake out your top bin and you have to put it down, so that you can empty the bottom bin, dumping the sawdust into the trash. What do you put the top bin on, as it will be dirty, with sawdust, some pee infestation from the dirty litter falling through, etc.? So, I find a slight flaw in this make, as it appears you may need a second tray that you can use while you use your hands to pick up the bottom to empty. Just a thought
