    I love seeing people restore old buildings and castles. they do not make buildings like they used to, the history, the architecture, nothing today really compares, we should be restoring and saving more than we do, its a shame they're too often left to rot.

    I love all the openness and light from a facility that had virtually none. The glass floor balcony would have been so gaudy, This turned out wonderfully.

    The build is quite impressive, and the bedrooms turned out nice for how little light they have, but I'm a little underwhelmed at the main floor's decor. There was so much more potential in those gorgeous spaces, I don't think the wall colours chosen and the furnishing do them justice.

    This building is now a short term rental home. Which explains why they put in a pool, a tennis court, and had a green exit sign above the front door. I don't think they ever had any intention of moving in.

    • @Sarahlaguiri

      As I watch more and more of these shows the Trust can choose to sell it to someone else. Not sure but if they who are the conservatoire a grand house and castle can put it available for auction like all the other historical buildings that are falling down. Just hope if that happens he can sell this one as a profit and afford the other buildings.

    This may be a sacrilege, but when I see all these ancient stately family mansions with their moldy stone facades, I desperately want to pressure wash them and bring them back to the smooth, clean look they had when they were new. How truly glorious were they at the start? We’ll never know, because it’s not done. Today we seem to enjoy the visual of seeing their age instead. My OCD disagrees.🙃

    I was skeptical at first, thinking that they'd probably ruin a nice old industrial building. I have to say the result was stunning though. I watch a lot of these programmes, and this is one of the best results I have seen. About the only thing I didn't like was the lights in the kitchen. I'm glad they didn't decide to put glass in the balcony floor.

    People stop hating on the bats, they lived in there long before the Kent couple.

    Does the UK not have regulations regarding the minimum size of bedroom windows for the purpose of egress? Those windows are looking a little small. I don't see why for safety they couldn't have been allowed to make them a little bigger without compromising the 'look' of the building.

    Finally, a completed restoration. The only difference I would have made was to match all the outside brickwork or cover it in a stone. They also could have had everything they wanted for the house and waited on the pool and tennis court.

      I highly doubt they could have covered the brickwork, if this is listed as a historical building.

      It's not their home, but a rental, thus the pool and tennis court. I would have kept as much of the original charm of the building, as to going modern.

      @@lemondrizzlecake7766 George at the beginning of the show said the oast house was not listed. But the planning dept did require the original windows to stay the same.

    Do they have someone come in and clean the bat poo from the attic floor?

    • @suzannetodaro5494
      @suzannetodaro5494 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I should imagine from what I could gather, that it will be isolated as not to disturb the bats. Therefore, any mess will stay in the area put aside for them.

    #1 ... have a glass closing door inside whatever you call those uprights and keep the fan. So when the weather is appropriate you can open the glass and turn on those fans and cool the whole house. #2 ... have the ability to turn those things at the top towards the sun and put reflective coating on the inside to provide light.

    I've said it a million times. Some of these builds drag on forever and are riddle with mistakes because time and mistakes are putting extra money in somebody's pocket.
