- Marco and Kath Walker take over a pair of Grade II listed 17th and 18th century cow barns from their local farmer in Wellington, Herefordshire. The barns are tumbling down, the couple have their two young children in tow, they've never done anything like this before and are complete restoration novices, and the project is beset with problems from the start. George offers much needed advice throughout the build and discovers how these buildings and the surrounding farm helped to revolutionise cattle farming in the UK. George Clarke helps rescue neglected architectural treasures across Britain.

Everyone is complaining about the music. You just got to watch this show commercial free and it cost you nothing. And that is because the sound was edited to get around copyright claims so it could be posted on TH-cam. So while it isn't ideal, let's all try to appreciate what the uploader has done so we can all watch this series here.

We tend to entitlement, we humans. It's the comedy of our frailty.
The government should give people who take these kind of projects on, an interest free loan! This is our heritage and it's just been made difficult for people to preserve these buildings! These people are literally saving our history

I agree! I can't hear a thing he's saying when they play the music at the same time. The other series on listed homes with the lady host doesn't have this issue.
I've said that a long time ago but they don't seem to care. I don't understand why the background music has to be so loud can't hardly hear the person talking.
I hope the projet's engineer is part of a local historical society, he has such an important view of heritage buildings.
Loved his quote: "These buildings have been here serving us or serving the farming community here for how many hundreds of years. It's keeping it going that keeps the character of the village alive."
I'm not complaining about the sound. I'm so happy to have these programs uploaded that I will gladly overlook any deficiencies!
When it comes to old structures, I would recommend doing as much of the work you can yourself. It adds to the satisfaction. I often walk around my 100 year old house to simply take in what I did. Paying someone to do the work or buying something new is enjoyable. Yet, there is nothing like laboring away and eventually leaning back and basking in a bit of your own glory. There is great reward in both the journey and the destination when your hands were involved. The difficult part for me was being patient.
This is a treat, and think of how this restoration has enhanced the whole village. Kudos for keeping old roof tiles to combine with new: gorgeous, smart.

The original makers, Channel 4 UK should be woried about the before and after claims they make, sometimes nothings finished, Grand Designes can take 3 years and longer, Collin just sticks with it to the end and shows the finished product, Restoration Man and Restoration home, most of the time leave us in limbo, it's really annoying.
I'd rather be able to see what they are doing and have to crank the volume up to hear the narrator than not see the building because it's blurred out.

George got along really well with the farmer at the end... so charming.
Excellent and enjoyable, as this series almost always is--save for the continuing regrettable problem of poor sound mixing that has the music drowning out the dialog in some places.
So true, I've also noticed the sound issue while watching Restoration Home on this channel. It (this series, at least) seems to have better sound quality on other channels, which makes me wonder whether it is channel-specific rather than substandard mixing.

I love the series, however, the music is totally drowning out the host of the show. Whoever is editing and uploading the video is not paying attention to the volume of the music, It's too overbearing

I love the stories and the series. it would be nice if we could hear a little better. it seems the music overwhelms the conversations sometimes.
i suspect this is something to do with downmixing 5.1 sound into stereo , and the centre channel not being loud enough but i could be wrong

Lovely series to show people restoring historical buildings to play respect to the architecture, builders and communities of the property. Also, they are reducing additional footprint on the planet with more new suburban style housing. Great job!
I so enjoy this show. The last few I've watched had a completed project, thankfully. But what you talk about during each project is important to hear. However, the dramatic music drowns your voice out. What you talk about is much more important than the music.

These episodes are often horror stories. I watch for George. He is brilliant, so knowledgeable, so talented. (yes, & handsome).

What a beautiful restoration! Not with standing the loud music and the man who whispers.
There were plenty of timbers in the old portion of the barn that were usable. Glad they used some. The skylights on the side of the roof seem out of place. All of that glass offers little privacy but it is a quiet little town and I guess that isn't a road out there. It is different in urban USA. The timbers are lovely and the kitchen is fresh. The yellow lime render is beautiful. Cute place.

I'm doubting that anyone who's involved in the editing of these shows reads or cares about the comments. Every single episode the comment section is filled with viewers complaining about the sound and nothing is done about it. It's a real shame because I really am interested in hearing about the history of these properties and I can't hear a thing about it.

Regardless of the obstacles they faced and the usual obnoxious music, these folks did an amazing job. Such fidelity to the character of the barn. Honestly tho, the conservation people need to chill a bit.

Love the show. I only wish the producers hadn't decided that the music (unnecessary) should be louder the narration and conversation.
I could really do without the mood music, it's so loud that it's impossible to hear half of the narration. If music is absolutely necessary a note of two would do, an entire orchestral movement isn't necessary.

I love these programmes but always think the budgets are actually huge compared to the budgets we have worked with - although the properties are usually huge too! In the UK the costs of restoration are much cheaper than in Europe, and the workmen far more reliable too!

I actually think the temporary stairs work great. They are in such stark compromise to the timber framing they balance the old and the new.

This couple has lost their minds. The farmer who sold it to them hit the jackpot, to unload 2 old derelict barns, and make 150,000 pounds. Then on top of that, they now have a 300,000 pound mortgage. That's ridiculous.
It is galling, that the farmer, whose family let place slide into rack and ruin & spent probably not 30p on the structure in 110 years, walks off with 150k.
@@johnvonundzu2170 you have a point, but they were foolish enough to buy the derelict, decrepit old ruins without having the structure examined. Here in America every home bought and/or sold must undergo a thorough examination, before it's sold/bought.
@@keepitsimple4629 FWIW I'm in the US too. I'm thinking the buyers & their bank were aware of the essential condition of the barn; and the 300k loan did seem to end up covering expenses.

@@keepitsimple4629 - No, every home in America does not have to go through a thorough examination before it is bought or sold. That is entirely up to the buyers and sellers and what they agree on. Not doing inspections can be used as a negotiating point.
Going $20,000 over budget on a project of this scope is insignificant. That could potentially be one item, such as their choice of flooring.
Great video. Very interesting for this grandson of a U.S. farmer/stockman. Consider omitting ALL music from your future videos. At times I could not hear the narration because of the unneeded and distracting instrumentation.

I have not subscribed but I did try to watch two episodes and the sound and the speaking and everything else is very annoying. I had to watch this very episode in mute. Anyhow, thank you for uploading these videos. I have been stuck inside this small apt because of COVID-19 quarantine and everyone else here TH-cam community just wants to watch an entertaining video w/o all the loud music in the background.
all the content Reel Truth have on TH-cam has been illegally uploaded, most of it is copyrighted by Channel 4 and the BBC in the UK.
These restorations are both amazing and beautiful ! BUT what often gets me wondering is why someone who is willing to put their hearts and money into a building that is in such terrible shape that it is literally falling down and likely wouldn't hold up for another winter or storm.....why are they not given to the people who will restore them? Why do they have to pay so much when what they are ultimately doing is a 'favor' to the land and the people. What we see as an eye sore is often torn down. If that's the case why don't they help the people restoring what wouldn't even be there if it weren't for these brave undertakings?
Why in every episode, George has to walk down the long road? Why not just park the car near the house? 🤭😁

Your bideos are very interesting and I like to see them and be amazed by people'stamina and zest for a better way of life. I would suggest a little equalising of voice and music. Because it's practically impossible to hear.

@@bigraymie, really.....? Holy cow. I wonder if there is a way to find the originals. Why hasn't this been shut down if it's pirated? Copyright is far more than just making noise or what it covers up. It also deals with the actual filming.

very nice build. why they left the one exterior beamed wall which is warped way out of straight or level is beyond me. and as a handicapped person their comment about a house to grow old in so, they install a step-down living room... which makes the living room a no go zone for a senior with walking issues. when you spend all that money for what you want but, don't consider what you "will" need in a few years is childishness. looks nice but, I couldn't live with that design.
