These people were hard working, goal, and family oriented. The parents were a fine example to their children. To see Mick hunched over and sobbing was heart breaking. He is cut from a different cloth. Instead of giving up, he got his family moved in by Christmas. He is the very definition of the word, “admirable.” Here on, I hope he takes care of his health for his and his family’s sake. All the best to them and those like them.

Part of me was thinking, 'Okay, you have a history of heart problems, you have a wife and two kids who rely on you then you go and buy a crumbling ruin in a country renowned for its excessive rain fall '. Yet I was also thinking, ' What an adventurer and how great is it that your wife and kids believe in you '. I'd have liked to have had even half his grit and determination at his age. I can imagine how devastated they'd have been had they lost everything and had to move out of their dream home. I hope the last 13 years have been good to them.
I am so happy for this beautiful determined couple. Brilliant example of not giving up, just wonderful to see such determination to follow your dream and seeing it through. They deserve the best ever life. ❤

The thing I most love about this is the genuinely shared vision these two have . Also the care of their children. No parents madly dashing about and having to leave the children in daycares and programmes to occupy them, while the parents are unavailable . This truly is a dream worth having . I am at the end of my life now , having not been able to live my dream . My children are lovely , my husband a good man , but smiling in the face of adversity would describe my life . The kind of adversity I mean is that of deprivation of the soul . I shouldn’t complain , but I would have loved to have given my children a broader view , a larger experience . My husband is the quintessential family man , but unable to allow any trace of risk into our lives . I write , not to whine about my perfectly good life but to say how glad I am for this wonderful family who have chosen to live LIFE .🎊💕💥🥳 .
Jenny is absolutely lucky to have a husband like Mick, he is so committed to the happiness of his family, Money is not everything. It's hard to find guys like him these days.
He apparently owns a successful engineering firm and she own a successful poultry farm so they have a great house and great living to boot now :)

I had a dream and lots of my work colleagues thought it was just that a dream.
After 15yrs of working, saving we have achieved our dream, we are now living in our house in northern Thailand, no mortgage and am retired early.
Living the dream!!!! Having designed the house and my wife project managed the build its great to see it all come together. The one negative is that my dad passed away so he isn't with us.
It's so good to see a success story. If ever two ppl deserved to have their dream come true, theses two did. I know this is actually a very old video. I remember seeing it years ago. This series," Build a New Life in the Country" has many story's like this one, where ppl put everything on the line to make their dream come true.
The one that really grabbed my heart was about a wife who always wanted a home where her family could be self sufficient. Both her and her husband gave up their jobs and moved to Ireland to make their dreams come true. They had so many set backs that you really thought they aren't going to make it.She and her husband worked themselves silly to have a small home in Ireland, with a view that was spectacular. The husband especially deserved the greatest amount of praise because he had never done this kind of work before but he just kept on pushing while his wife took in sewing to make ends meet. It was called a" derelict house."
It's all about making your dreams comes true.

Jenny had to be scared to death, being pregnant and worried about her husband and children at the same time. I admire them. They're such hard workers and I'd love to see an update on the house and the family now. I hope that they're all okay.

As Mick was working putting the plasterers work right. I thought to my self that guy should start a building company and he did, plus he has the perfect advert, not like the plasterer.
But what amazes me how many wives fall pregnant during these builds.
Great house, great family and on their way to be great stock people I trust. Thanks for letting us in on your life.
They fall pregnant because of the stress and not looking after themselves! Imagine having to take birth control or pay ten quid for condoms! It's very easy to muck up these things by missing or skipping one step! That said, most of these families WANT another child! Why do a build so large and not have a family to put in it!
@@fredrika27 Through married life I've found that stress is the major dampener on having sex, not the other way around. But I can tell you after having a super Christmas Dinner in the house I've just built, it would be top of the list.

What an amazing couple ! I much prefer watching this sort of re-build , rather than people who have money to do it the easier way. They took a tremendous chance with finances, health everything they had and they did it.

Wow! Just Wow! Fantastic build. Broke my heart seeing a grown man cry, God bless 'um. By the end of the show, Mick looked awful. I hope he's put on weight and had some rest, he's earned it. Again, I'll never understand why the UK doesn't want to save the buildings/homes by giving out grants. Not to fund the entire project, but to fund part of the build to SAVE the UK history. There are very few 600 yr old buildings left...SAVE them by funding them.
Mick and Jenny showed strong resilience during this build and they made it into a gorgeous family home 🏡.

Good heavens. I admire all their tremendous hard work and even the risk of quitting his job to finish the house--but no one should ever, EVER max out credit cards (in general but particularly when you're penniless). If they hadn't gotten lucky that just would have made their situations 100% worse. You may not be able to wait a few years for a roof but you can wait a few years for nice furniture and toys.

So very well deserved. Involving their children was also lovely (unlike some other projects where the children too young to understand). You can only admire their tenacity and enjoy their obvious love for one another and their children. Not often you are cheering at the end. This was special.

Mick and Jenny you are trojans!!! Congratulations on an awesome job renovating this gorgeous old ruin and turning it into the beautiful home it is. You have done an excellent job. But Mick I hope you have insurance on your home...dont lose it after all that work. 17 years down the track (did I see 2005 mentioned somewhere?) I hope you are all still living in the house, you have gone on to sell many more bulls, paid off most if not all of your debt, gotten your health back on track, maybe found a dentist and given up smoking...you have a beautiful family but they need their husband and dad..be kind to yourself. I also hope your building company is going great but that you have employed other people and not taken on other peoples stresses...Scotland , what a lovely country to grow old in..all the best...I also hope your daughter fulfilled her dream of becoming a vet.. BTW George you did well on this video. not so much negativity, well done you.

I'd a brought in a stone mason to rebuild the stone structure and carpenters to recreate the huge ceiling beams and roof trusses, then I'd a modernized the interior. As it stands 75% of the structure is modern build, 2X4's, concrete blocks, Drywall and bricks. Bravo to Mick and Jenny for the effort.
This is incredible.
This family brought me to tears. I loved how they all pulled together. My children help me work towards things...I had a cleaning business and my oldest would run around with the duster, I started other businesses and my daughter as she got older would help me with paperwork and answer questions from clients..as they got older they set goals for themselves and we all help each other. Anything is possible if you are willing to pull together for those you love. Sky is the limit and I try to live that montre so my children feel confident enough to take risks and reach for their goals. We won't always hit the goal but sometimes failing leads to even better success at something unexpected.

This family are the type of family we want living in the UK and we should be encouraging these values and attitudes of putting your family first, perseverance, hardwork, relying on youreself, trustworthiness and being a genuine moral and kind person.
They couldn't rely on the purse of " mummy and daddy" when they ran out of money.
What a fantastic couple.
Instead in the UK a lot of people now ( in my humble opinion) seem to have very few values. I was reading a local newspaper where a dad was congratulating his son for being a " hard man" and murdering a rival.

What a wonderful family with tons of Love. Several times I cried my eyes out for them. I'm so pleased everything worked out for them and that long term solutions came along.
