*SMRT Trains Ltd (FAQs): Are drinks allowed in MRT Singapore (video **1:58**)?* No, it is not permitted. In 1987, the Rapid Transit Systems (RTS) Act was established by Parliament and it was declared that no food or drink was to be consumed in MRT trains and stations. *If you do, you will be issued a notification of offence which carries a fine of up to $500.*

The ‘super trees’ are really an experiment/prototype to clean up carbon and pollution, not the most efficient yet, but an early model to see how better and scalable ones can be made in the future.

My wife and I have been in Singapore for 22 years. Wherever we travel after a couple of weeks later, she wants to go back to Singapore. She said personal safety, abundance of food options, cleanliness, public transportation and shopping is hard to beat. Paddy, rent a bike and ride around Marina bay area. It will give you different view of the city. I ride every day and never get tired of the view.

I have spent some time in Singapore over several different backpacking trips to the Region. Have often spent a few days doing a few activities or new locations I haven’t visited before. The big metal trees condense moisture from from the air which is added to the water supply of the city. Regionally it’s a good place to pass through if you need to purchase or replace outdoor travel gear. Try around Orchard Road as I recall. For great cheaper food find a hawker hall. The Singapore equivalent of street food stalls. If you are going to be in Chinatown the Buddha Tooth Temple is right there when you exit the metro and pretty much right there is a hawker hall as well

Stayed in Singapore in April and June last year for 4 nights split between my tour of Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia.
Stayed in Chinatown and loved it BUT after travelling round Thailand etc the difference in prices is quite scary.
Also was there in 2017 and prices have shot up since then.
But there is also plenty of things to that cost hardly anything or are free.
I loved the Botanical Gardens and also it is such a super easy city to walk round and walking Mount Faber and the Henderson Waves is a truly brilliant experience.
I did a tour of Bali in Feb this year with a overnight stop in Singapore and stayed at the Crowne Plaza @ Jewel and spent whole evening in the Jewel where they had a huge Disney display on.

Remember to get out of the downtown area, don't just get trapped in the marina bay area! Singapore is so small and safe, and very well connected by public transport. It is such a huge pity that 9 out of 10 tourists so not get out of downtown at all! Go spend a day at Geylang Serai market (MRT :Paya Lebar station on the east line) in the morning for some authentic local malay food, then walk over to joo chiat, a heritage street with lots of colourful historical shophouses that now host wide variety of cafes and shops that aren't tourist traps. This is a real living neighborhood. At the end of joo chiat, is the popular are Katong. Cross over to Roxy Square for a real good bowl of Laksa. Junggut laksa is the real deal, forget abt 328 that guidebooks rave about. Haha.
Then walk further to a public housing estate by the sea - Marine Parade. Here you can see the real Singaporean living. HDB flats are government public housing, a wonderfully designed concept to ensure everyone in this country has a home regardless of economic status. Every such estates has library, medical clinics, a mall etc.
From there, you are just an underpass away from the east coast beach! Walk over, enjoy a swim and cool off from the heat, wash up at the multiple beach toilets/shower rooms. Then rent a bike, and cycle on the park connector back to marina bay unto Gardens by the bay for thr evening light shows!

If he wants to come to Singapore, that's his choice, his money, his time. Why are you guys hating on it? Like he can't have fun here and visit other countries another time!

Singapore 🇸🇬 is not your typical South East Asia city that you have visited i.e. Thailand🇹🇭, Philippines 🇵🇭, Malaysia 🇲🇾, Indonesia 🇮🇩, Vietnam 🇻🇳, Cambodia 🇰🇭, Myanmar 🇲🇲 or even Brunei 🇧🇳. A combination of Modern Architecture surrounded by old British 🇬🇧 colonial buildings with lush foliage on the skyscrapers. Very westernized and contemporary yet still preserve the old rustic looks of old village settings. The price of accommodation and food tends to be on the pricey side if you dine on a mostly touristy flank. Go to hawker centers for cheaper options in Singapore 🇸🇬. There is plenty of it here and to approximate is beyond comparison. Hope you relish the adventure of staying here in Singapore 🇸🇬.

What you had was southern Indian food. IMHO, it is much better than northern Indian stuff (naans, chicken tikka, butter masala etc). If you get a chance, try south Indian "Banana Leaf"....it will blow your mind.
