As a Singaporean, I would recommend Singapore as a great place to visit and if possible to stay for a few months, soak in the innovative vibe and take in as many ideas as you can. But like Japan, be forewarned the pace is intense. As days turn into months and months turn into years, it will wear you out. There is always someone better after your job, some other company trying to destroy yours. If you get a good business running, it is tempting to run it 7 days a week. The money can be good. Taxes are low. The time will come when you will yearn for less crowds and more wide open spaces and your own space, and this city living will become a pleasant curse. Pleasant because it is safe and clean and how long you want to tolerate it before it drives you crazy.

I am Brazilian and I had the pleasure of spending 3 months in this incredible country. I went on business and was impressed how the country works so well in so many ways. The combination of the collective disposition of its native people and those who choose Singapore to live in, together with the government tools that strive for the country's general modernity, is what makes Singapore such a wonderful gem. Besides being one of the most amazing places to go sightseeing, it's a magnificent place to think about living forever.
Ridiculously low crime rate. Huge Anti-corruption polices and Heavy punishment for criminals: And you wonder why Singapore is one of the best countries in the world.
Anti Corruption policies? Haha. Criminals like Bush, Saud Family, Erdogan, Trump, Netanyau can walk in Singapur FREE. They have Houses there. For me Singapur is a Shithole, they dont do anything vs real Criminals.

Few years ago I met a Singaporean 6 years old boy and he speaks 3 languages; Melayu/Indonesian, Chinese and English. I don't even speak English very well it humbles me.
ian lawrence When you live in Singapore you can basically pick up on it and the MOE encourages students to learn other languages like on racial harmony to learn some simple words There is also three language courses in secondary school or some other course like CCM conversation Malay for example. Most people also learn from other people so in daily life it is not rare to hear a person speaking more then one language in a sentence (Singlish)it also make things more simple
I had the opportunity to go to Singapore back in 2006, and a good deal of the city was still under construction. Looking at this now it's truly astounding how far the city has come; Truly amazing.
Thank you, but believe me - it took a lot of sacrifices to get here. Nobody believes us when we tell them it takes 20 years to pay off a $300,000 apartment, 10 years for a $15,000 loan to buy a Toyota Camry, etc. Mexico is not under developed. Your country is being sabotaged by your neighbor who supports guns & gangs violence, drug trafficking, corruption of your politicians, etc. Ask your relatives, ask your buddies, who is destroying Mexico and why. "They" want you to be poor and fighting or killing each other.
Singapore was essentially a benevolent dictatorship under Lee Kuan Yew for decades after independence. This was a non-trivial contributor to sustainable long-term planning and development in the city-state. The contrast is stark compared to Hong Kong's plutocratic rule by wealthy developers and mandarins from London and now Beijing.
I'm watching this documentary because I just returned from visiting Singapore for the first time, and I was HIGHLY impressed by this city/state. It really shines in terms of cleanliness, organization, technology, and architecture. It is right up there with Tokyo as my favorite cities in the world. There's so much more I'd like to explore so I'm going back soon. And this documentary made me that much more excited, seeing how forward-thinking Singaporeans are. I can't wait to see what this city will be like in 50 years.
@@FeeDBacKMKII As a Singaporean, I'd say a week would suffice. It's very small here, so travelling around doesn't take up much time, hence you can actually do a lot in a day. If your spending budget is quite high, I'd say 2 weeks would be great to experience a lot of things & you can really take your time to enjoy the moments. The number 1 thing to do here is to actually eat, eat & eat. I can confidently say that we have the best food anywhere, & there're PLENTY of varieties. I love Singapore, being ex merchant navy I visited many times and spent days waiting for my ship so I could board. Even back then some 15 to 20 years ago when I was last there, it was a vibrant clean and exciting place to be. The culture of Singapore is vibrant and oh so friendly. One was always aware of the greenery wherever one went. It is no surprise to me that it continues to excel. A beautiful country and people for sure.
Went to Singapore last year from Calgary, Canada and I was blown away by the architecture, green spaces and amazing people. I will definitely go back :)
I am really surprised they provide their students tech- literacy in early education that build up their foundation of problem solving. It's really amazing
I was probably born under a lucky star to be able to experience Singapore a few months back during a student exchange program at the NUS,and right from the societal congeniality as well as the overall sense of responsibility and passion for the labour and following dictums among the people was astounding in every sense of the word.Indeed Singapore is a true exemplar for the modern cities or rather world in totality.

Thanks NatGeo for a brilliant documentary affording Singapore the well-deserved recognition and achievements that many in the world aren't aware. The details found in this documentary is highly educational and informational which perhaps many wouldn't have known even if they live in Singapore. Singapore is not perfect by any measure, and so is every other city out there. Nevertheless, Singapore's achievements are remarkable relative to many other cities. Kudos and heartfelt appreciation to the SG government, all Singaporeans as well as all the talented and hardworking foreigners living and working in Singapore, who have contributed extensively to this amazing city. Keep it up SG!
As a Singaporean, I don't really want to caveat how great i think this city is. I'm just going to say that as our society matures and as the young people take over, social inequities will also change for the better.
Singapore's immigration means that a 'youth revolution' is literally impossible. When you have old rich people migrating into your country, a leftist government can never come into fruition. Singapore will continue to age, and will move rightwards considerably (yes more so than it is now).
@@Multi407D a revolution to overthrow the PAP and establish a leftist government is pretty much the last thing people want. Well the government seems not to looking for a long term way like i mean look at what they did to manila bay they just went for aesthetic and it just a waste of money another thing i noticed that is a big difference with Singapore is that the people in government or the ones employed for the job aren't suitable for the job like electing a celebrity because they are famous.. the Philippine government has a long way togo
Don't take things for granted. From where I come from living in a city like london is a dream and I'm sure many people would have the same thought. Be greatful for what you have
Our late PM mr Lee Kuan Yew took inspiration while studying in London where he saw planted trees in the city and felt that it actually beautify the surrounding. That’s how Singapore ended up with greenery everywhere you go. All thanks to London and the British!
Also to note: Elon Musk tried to make a TESLA partnership with Singapore. However Singapore declined that partnership. Elon assumed that Singapore was "opposing alternative vehicles" as our income would rely on fossil fuels. However, we hit back hard with the data that individual electric vehicles is less of a movement to protect the environment and instead a way to capitalise on the fact that it is a "Lifestyle" and that it would be more effective to have a Mass-Public Transport system that could reduce the number of vehicles, and there could also eventually be alternatively powered public transport as well.
Electric cars make more sense in countries like America with very little public transportation. Public transport > electric cars > petrol or diesel cars
@@ritwikreddy5670 Yes, in general this is true. It is also important to note that creating electric cars is incredibly energy intensive, and if a family is buying an electric car to replace a petrol car that they already own, this is not really accomplishing much. But for first-time automobile buyers who do not have the option of public transportation, then purchasing an electric car is definitely better than a petrol one.
because Singapore doesnt want their people want to be overcrowded with cars so they just want their people use public transportation, but still i want Tesla want to be in southeast asia region
@@channelhoward There is always market for second hand cars. If you replace your petrol car with an electric car, someone somewhere who was willing to buy a brand new petrol car would instead buy your old car. That means one less petrol car on roads.

Singapore is one of the best futuristic city in the world. It gives us a sense of extremely proud feelings about the engineering marvels and shows that our world is rapidly changing. This city is a symbol modern architectural design.
Most of what Singapore does as a society/government is not innovated in Singapore, but LEARNT from other nations. They then bring it back to the country, debate on how best to use this in a way that works best in our society, and implement it. This is something that Singapore's leaders have said time and again. IMO the most important thing is not innovation, but implementation. Hope you get a chance to visit Singapore someday!
@Dude Trust Me I think we shouldn’t confuse innovation with invention. Most new technologies today were a result of innovation from past inventions. So I do think Singapore is constantly looking for ways to innovate. Let’s continue to learn from each other, innovate and progress. 💪🏻💪🏻
We don't really have a solution to everything. But we are learning, growing and constantly thinking about ways to keep up with the times and stay relevant. Jethro Chan are you sure? I mean during its growth days it was considered strict socialist city state. Rights to peacefully protest and other normal things were not allowed. Evidence of these strict laws still are still shown in their incredibly laws. (500$ fines for littering and etc.)
Just Facts Just Facts it’s also usually illegal to protest without government consent. Many of the laws from back then are still in place. I should have said it’s still focused on economic growth but have given a little more voice to the citizens. It’s a great place to visit, but to live is a different story. High land costs and troublesome laws. This is an excerpt from the constitution “parliament may restrict the right to freedom of speech, assembly or association if it’s necessary or expedient in the interest of the security of Singapore”. They’ve given so much power to the Prime minister so all these are very accessible to him even though it says parliament decides. I couldn’t care about lgbt but things like these are still illegal in Singapore, and companies who support these have been suppressed from holding events.
@@spigbungus I suppose, but Singapore is definitely an outlier from countries with those similar policies. It is doing well, just because a person is given power does not mean they will exploit it for wrongdoings. Also, it's still definitely a democracy, leaders are under pressure by the people's opinions.
Marcus Len I wouldn’t say that it’s that different. If you noticed among the asian tigers all countries went through a similar phase. Korea with park Chung hee, Japan after world war 2, and China with deng xiao ping. I admire Singapore strength to follow this trend but people don’t realize what they had to sacrifice. A phase of strict government dedicated to economic development.
Singapore is the most underrated tech savvy and wealthy city on earth, it’s becoming bigger and better than Dubai, and most people don’t even talk about it or see it as a poor region
Only the ignorant do... Singapore has been wealthy for many decades now. A lot of Asian countries have developed so much but a lot of ignorant westerners don't know. Some don't even know Japan is advanced...
If you are familiar with Dubai's wealth and economy you should be with Singapore. However being an expat in Dubai seems more likely than Singapore, correct me if I'm wrong
Irene A your right, I also lived in Dubai for about a year, that is when I first heard of Singapore bc of it being similar to Dubai, being an American I can say in a few years one or both will be better than the states if they aren’t already, here in the states we act like we’re the only great country and try to hide that others are passing us up
It's important to take notice that what underlies and supplies the funding for all this public and private research is capitalism. Singapore ranks consistently as the second most economically free nation in the world. The government does a superb job in protecting property rights, facilitating free trade, and keeping the overall regulatory burden low while still enforcing pollution control guidelines. It is so remarkable to see what can happen in a "start up culture" such as Singapore, where people have the freedom to innovate. If only more of the world's countries would follow Singapore's model. The world would be a richer, healthier, and cleaner place.
Nicholas Gergetz actually it's more like a perfect balance between capitalism and socialism. Taxes are high and so are subsides. Government controls most of the important industries to at least a certain extent. And the rest is free market,

No democracy either, but fascist dystopia in a good way.

ian lawrence
When you live in Singapore you can basically pick up on it and the MOE encourages students to learn other languages like on racial harmony to learn some simple words
There is also three language courses in secondary school or some other course like CCM conversation Malay for example. Most people also learn from other people so in daily life it is not rare to hear a person speaking more then one language in a sentence (Singlish)it also make things more simple
I talked on 4 languages by my 10th BD , Kazakh, Russian, English and Chinese.

Well if we keep it like this, in 50 years we'll be old😜
is it worth spending two weeks in singapore cause i plan to do there my hooeymoon with my wife
@@FeeDBacKMKII As a Singaporean, I'd say a week would suffice. It's very small here, so travelling around doesn't take up much time, hence you can actually do a lot in a day. But ultimately, it really depends on what you're planning to do.

I am proud to be Singaporean (in a humble way) and the amazing feats we have achieved thus far while we continue to push the boundaries of possibilities to surpass previous milestones.
CAN I LIVE THERE AFTER MY CAREER ?

But for first-time automobile buyers who do not have the option of public transportation, then purchasing an electric car is definitely better than a petrol one.
because Singapore doesnt want their people want to be overcrowded with cars so they just want their people use public transportation, but still i want Tesla want to be in southeast asia region
also because ownership of 'normal' cars is already expensive. What about electric cars?
@@channelhoward There is always market for second hand cars. If you replace your petrol car with an electric car, someone somewhere who was willing to buy a brand new petrol car would instead buy your old car.

We don't really have a solution to everything. But we are learning, growing and constantly thinking about ways to keep up with the times and stay relevant. which is a good thing. you can still live well. singapore is just a thing to visit not to live in. i'll take a house with plenty of room and food grown naturally not 3d printed and such junk.
Bulldoze and start again lad
Amazing what people can do when they have vision, knowledge and passion for innovation. well done Singapore!
I am a previous resident of Singapore and am so proud of it’s achievements. Ira Lee Ph.D.

It's a genuinely different place. It's the most futuristic (and probably cleanest) city you'll ever visit.
Indian Living in Singapore from few years, When I came here I was shocked to know that there can be a CRIME FREE city, where women can walk alone in lonely area even at mid night. Police here is super quick to act and even spend time to solve very simple cases.
Wow. I also met my life changer Theresa May here in Singapore. I now own lots of super cars. I so much love this country
My favourite part of singapore is never seeing a police car because they dont need any
The crime rate is so Low that the policemen here mainly deal with lover’s quarrels that got too loud causing noise complains from neighbours
Singapore is smaller than Hong Kong but they does better.
I think everyone should learn Singapore
Jethro Chan are you sure? I mean during its growth days it was considered strict socialist city state. Rights to peacefully protest and other normal things were not allowed. Evidence of these strict laws still are still shown in their incredibly laws. (500$ fines for littering and etc.)
@@spigbungus $500 as a fine for littering is a good idea tho. I mean, in order to discipline the public, iron fist-like laws must be enforced.
Just Facts Just Facts
it’s also usually illegal to protest without government consent.
I love how the city is so green and really making effort in doing so.
So Nat Geo uploads full episode of their programs in TH-cam? Wow what an era to live in
Watching from Kenya and I wish our leaders could see what leaders from such countries are doing.
All African leaders should see what such countries are doing
We are still thinking about BBI
I agree. I wonder if our leaders ever expose themselves to images of such greatness, if for nothing else, for inspiration
Irene A your right, I also lived in Dubai for about a year, that is when I first heard of Singapore bc of it being similar to Dubai, being an American I can say in a few years one or both will be better than the states if they aren’t already, here in the states we act like we’re the only great country and try to hide that others are passing us up
ImYes I lived in Dubai for about a year and I imagine it to be very similar maybe better
@yes I do
It's important to take notice that what underlies and supplies the funding for all this public and private research is capitalism.
And the rest is free market,
Nicholas, you could not have said it better. Yes the rest of the world should have a good look at this. Thank you
Give 'em the tools, and get out of the way!

@@maru7042 taxes are quite low for most people actually. Progressive taxation means that richer people contribute more
