DS3 was my first souls game. Hearing the main menu theme for the first time hits the exact same as hearing the THX sfx at the beginning of a movie back in childhood. It's just overwhelming but instead of just noise, it's a grand requiem for a world that refuses to die. Absolutely brilliant, as it immediately lets the player know EXACTLY what kind of game they're about to experience.
I remember I took the time to listen to the whole track the first time I launched the game and I thought "ok, just this was already worth the 50 bucks"
You forgot to mention how 9:10 is basically the Demons Souls’ theme but in a different key and an even grander scale, basically tells you that after 13 years of masterpiece after masterpiece, the culmination of every of these masterpieces leads to here
Dark souls 2 had by far the best main menu theme, It was somber, sad but peaceful, It felt like it captured what dark souls is truly about, along with it's atmosphere and structure, I sometimes find myself stuck in the menu for a while listening to it. It's so underrated.
Yeah I agree. I think the repetitive nature of the song and the intro whirl of voices represent the loss of memory that is a big part of the story of dark souls 2.
i agree, I think the melody represents very well the melancholy of losing memories and the insatiable search for a cure. certainly the most underrated of the souls game
I love the ds2 main theme, but all the others are also insane, so even though its wonderful it just cant compete with things like ds3 main theme, which is just crazy

yet another great video! i personally have to disagree with the placement of the ds2 theme but thats probably because i really have strong feelings toward dark souls 2 in general as it was my gateway drug into the souls series. i really enjoy the somber, almost sad notes and it gives me a strong sense of nostalgia. i feel like it reflects the unchanging cycle the world is going through and reflects upon the themes of the set game then again, you can throw any music in my way and i have no choice but to like it lol :) personally i think this just speaks volumes as to how good the soulsborne osts are in general really looking forward to your next uploads ❤
I was almost afraid you might've put Elden Rings theme over DS3's. Elden Ring's theme is so good, but nothing can top DS3 for me, its just so godlike man... chills every time.
Elden ring's theme is amazing with how pure hype it is but ds3 feels like it has that and more. the ds3 theme really emphasizes how it has been a grand journey throughout all three games and this is the very end of it all
Both Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3's themes were supposed to be boss themes (Dark Souls 3's was supposed to by Sulyvahn's theme), so I couldn't see any other theme as places 1 or 2.

Well the elden ring theme is the boss theme of Radagon. It was such a cool moment finally hearing that theme in the game and it made the fight with radagon so much better. Shame that elden beast came after radagon though because it would have been the best ending out of all their games if it wasn't for that.
I'm actually so annoyed that ds3 didn't even get nominated for best sound/music design at the game awards in 2016, it should have won or at least been nominated, and let's not even talk about Goty because I think we can all agree ds3 deserved it infinitely more than overwatch, but anyway ds3 soundtrack is amazing, its simply beautiful. I think the whole soundtrack is fromsofts best.
Bloodborne was my first FS game. When i first heard the main menu theme, i literally didn't press anything for 5 minutes. I just listened to the music. It was absolutely astounding. It captures the essence of Bloodborne perfectly! I hope they make a sequel or successor one day 🙂! We need more bloodborne!
Dark Souls 2's Main Theme is my second favourite to be honest, only second to Dark Souls 1's. It's your opinion and I beg to differ, however what makes Ds1 and Ds2's main themes special is that it is comforting, if I have to think of a Metaphor for it, It feels like an Eye of a Storm, you're safe, for the meantime atleast. My interpretation of Dark Souls is that it's a journey of finding peace within darkness and death. Although the later games still attain that Dark Fantasy Atmosphere, what they're missing are the intimate somber moments that the earlier games had, particularly Dark Souls 1 and 2. Sorry that I rewrote the whole Bible.
Facts!! Its so unbelievably comforting to the point I can fall asleep to BOTH themes(which I have). The bombastic insane loud orchaestra in DS3 is my least favorite. Hence why its at the bottom of my list next to elden ring and bloodborne.

As much as I like to shit on Dark Souls 2, I really love the main menu theme. It's like this soothing lullaby that, alongside Majula's theme, provides an incredible atmospheric introduction to the game.
1:50 hearing this hit so hard being my first souls/fromsoftware game. i always heard people tell me "man i wish i could do a first playthrough with sekiro again i'm so jealous of you" i didn't understand it then cuz i kept getting my ass kicked by the bosses lol but now i do. 2:39 yeah this always felt like triumph and victory overcoming a struggle.
DS3 main theme failed to capture the sentiment of "this is the end of the dark souls"... It instead captured the sentiment of "this is the end of the entire f*cking world"! It is as epic as Elden Ring theme, but it feels better because it is sad, nostalgic and apocalyptic at the same time. Elden Ring theme can hype you, sure, but DS3 theme evoke a lot more emotions, and I can hear it for days! The only other song I can think in the entire OST of From Software's games that feels similarly apocalyptic and simultaneously sad is Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower theme. When that song drops, omg.
I agree with this list, but only because you counted the Character Creation music as DS1's theme. I could also probably swap ER and BB depending on the day, but DS3's theme is certainly the best theme of them all. Top 10 favorite video game themes ever if not top 5..

The Character Creation has a very nostalgic sound that reminds me of the early PS3 and late PS2 era of games, and it's easily associated with the ominous and atmospheric DS1 experience. I just didn't think of it first and always associated the main menu with silence. 😅
It hits most like: Ds2: I feel forgotten, lonely and have no hope. No kind of greatness awaits for me. Sekiro: I feel determined to fulfill my duty, Whatever it costs. Ds1: I feel calm, relaxed and kind of naive. I have no idea of what awaits for me. Demon's Souls: I feel scared of what awaits me, but also feel encouraged to face it. Bloodborne: I feel myself with many doubts and indecisions, and also fear to face all of them. Elden Ring: I feel great and motivated, like i'm strong and powerfull to achieve all my goals. Ds3: I feel myself lost, defeated many times, but also have hope enough to get stronger and face a challenge again, until defeat it.

There is no reason for any game to have a main theme that good but it sure does get you hyped to play the game everytime you boot it up.
Dark Souls 3 has the best theme, Elden Rings theme got me tremendously hyped when I booted up the game for the first time. Then i’d probably say Sekiro’s theme because i’m partial to Sekiro. Both Elden Ring and Sekiro needed longer tracks though. @@grimreefer213 elden ring isn't dark souls though, it doesn't need to and shouldn't try to replicate the same vibe as dark souls with it's menu theme as the game is supposed to be much grander both in terms of story and scale, imo a grand sounding theme fits much better for a game like ER. Also ds3's main theme is similarly gamey and possibly even more so than radagon's and everyone agrees it's incredible so I don't think "gamey-ness" takes much away from a would-be main theme.

The reason it's called Nameless song is that, after so much struggled of the nameless and accursed undead, slaying the mighty lord of cinder was his final course in linking the mighty first flame. This is the moment the nameless undead fulfilled the prophecy and this song is his recognition. "Nameless Song" is the song dedicated to the undead warrior, who was once a nobody now slayed the lord of cinder.

Nameless Song and Longing are very good too, especially the former, even if they are a bit repetitive. Seriously, hearing Nameless Song after finally completing DS1, and seeing “Dark Souls” on my screen again felt incredible - and it’s not even a top 2 end credit theme!
I think Elden Ring's theme is deceptively triumphant. If you listen to, it gets you hyped and like you can take on anything, but since it's Radagon's theme, it's more there to show the power of the bosses your going to be going up against and how it's going to be the hardest fight yet. It's triumphant, but more for the bosses than for the player.
Bro, I remember when I first entered DS3, and just close my eyes and started listening to that music and my mom came and asked me if I was good, never going to forget that moment, and for me it is the best main menu theme of all time (and I would end up getting Sekiro's theme a bit above in the position of DS, and DS in Demon Souls place)

In DS3 theme where the piece modulates to the relative Major just to go back to a huge diminished build-up after a descending 4ths sequence for 4 chords and then back to the original theme with no percussions but just the strings and the soprano lead, best fucking cadence ever.
I agree with the top 3 picks... if listened on their own. In regards to setting the mood and making me want to play, I think no theme outdoes Elden Ring's (which the creator mentioned however), even if the part playing at 12:00 makes me consider the DS3 theme to be overall winner. BB also really sets the mood as mentioned in the video. Lovely vid overall!
Witcher 1 has one of my favorite main themes. It instantly transports you into its gritty world of monsters and brutal monarchy. Also the one for Dark Souls 1 is technically its character creation theme; it has no main menu theme.

DS3 main theme is 90% responsible for me to fallen in love with FromSoft games. The first time I started the game, the bell tolls just grabs my attention, i looped it so much I lost count.
FRT, I was literally stuck at the menu screen for Dark Souls 3 for like two hours before starting the game up just because the theme was so enthralling.
Here are my preferences: -1 DS3 -2 Elden Ring (Which shares some similarities with Demon's Souls theme if you listen closely) -3 Demon's Souls -4 Bloodborne -5 Sekiro -6 DS1 -7 DS2

5:03 I got confused, we're talking about a tier list for the menu music or the intro of the games, I know, your video your rules, but Dark souls 1 kind of doesn't have menu music, the music you showed is "A Moment's Peace" from character creation/selection, that being said I think the one from Demons souls should be the OST "Souls of Mist ( Character Creation again )" and not the OST "Demons souls" which despite being the song with the game's name is actually from the game's Introduction, just as Bloodborne has the OST "Omen" for the intro, you chose "The Night Unfurls" as the menu music, so Dark souls 2, Bloodborne, Dark souls 3, Sekiro and Elden Ring would was be wrong
It would be the menu music, but if there is none I'd pick what people would probably consider the "theme" of the game. I probably should have clarified that before going on in the video. It's rough for DS1 but I think a lot more people would identify the track I selected as the "main theme". It's not the most fair way of doing it, but it's just how I decided to go. I still would've ranked them pretty similarly either way though if that's any consolation!
DS3 theme is on another level entirely. This sheet is just something else. After quite a gap there is an ER theme. This thing also has its separate tier. And after an even bigger gap you can start ranking other games themes.
It might be bias, but Bloodborne’s takes the cake for me by a long shot. It feels more aligned with the themes and atmosphere of the game than any other theme in the series.

The theme of DS3 is really fucking good, but I can't help but feel that it's a little over the top for the feelings that Dark Souls should convey. In that regard, I feel that the others generate more appropriate feelings for their respective games, but it's still an excellent song so I understand that it doesn't drop from the top positions
It was meant for the 'Old King of the Eclipse'. The theme fits the journey to the end of it all. The Pontiff was born of the painted world. Bonus points for knowing its lore. Especially how it ties in with the Black Haired Witch, Gael, the painter, and the ultimate sin of the Age of Fire.

DS3 was my first game in the series. I just knew the moment I opened the game and heard that masterpiece of a main theme that this was going to be one of my favourite games of all time. There is no reason for any game to have a main theme that good but it sure does get you hyped to play the game everytime you boot it up.
Dark Souls 3 has the best theme, Elden Rings theme got me tremendously hyped when I booted up the game for the first time. Then i’d probably say Sekiro’s theme because i’m partial to Sekiro. Both Elden Ring and Sekiro needed longer tracks though. As to which one I would rather sit down and listen to on any given day assuming they were fully fleshed out tracks; I would pick Sekiro’s theme. Elden Ring’s theme is not a song I would listen to very often, but when I do it is a banger

@@jimtsap04 Nah, it doesn’t really fit with the traditional ambiance of souls like games, and it’s not a song that I want to listen to often, when I do listen to it it’s exciting but it doesn’t feel like a complete track. It feels gamey, it does it’s job to get you hyped for the game really well but it’s not a song that I would otherwise listen to in a different context other than to get hyped
@@grimreefer213 elden ring isn't dark souls though, it doesn't need to and shouldn't try to replicate the same vibe as dark souls with it's menu theme as the game is supposed to be much grander both in terms of story and scale, imo a grand sounding theme fits much better for a game like ER. Also ds3's main theme is similarly gamey and possibly even more so than radagon's and everyone agrees it's incredible so I don't think "gamey-ness" takes much away from a would-be main theme.
@@jimtsap04 I agree it shouldn’t try to replicate it but the game overall still retains some of the aspects of those games fundamentally, sometimes for the worse, but that’s a different topic, I just personally prefer the other style is the point. I never thought ds3’s main theme was “gamey” but that is ultimately subjective and open to interpretation

@@Nightwalk2 atleast not me. Loved the Nameless song, Ds3 Epilogue and Maliketh's track on ER's ending. The Nameless song in itself has a really good lore. The reason it's called Nameless song is that, after so much struggled of the nameless and accursed undead, slaying the mighty lord of cinder was his final course in linking the mighty first flame. This is the moment the nameless undead fulfilled the prophecy and this song is his recognition. "Nameless Song" is the song dedicated to the undead warrior, who was once a nobody now slayed the lord of cinder.

Seriously, hearing Nameless Song after finally completing DS1, and seeing “Dark Souls” on my screen again felt incredible - and it’s not even a top 2 end credit theme!

I think Elden Ring's theme is deceptively triumphant. If you listen to, it gets you hyped and like you can take on anything, but since it's Radagon's theme, it's more there to show the power of the bosses your going to be going up against and how it's going to be the hardest fight yet. It's triumphant, but more for the bosses than for the player.
Good music doesn't need explanation, you just feel it.

Bro, I remember when I first entered DS3, and just close my eyes and started listening to that music and my mom came and asked me if I was good, never going to forget that moment, and for me it is the best main menu theme of all time (and I would end up getting Sekiro's theme a bit above in the position of DS, and DS in Demon Souls place)

In DS3 theme where the piece modulates to the relative Major just to go back to a huge diminished build-up after a descending 4ths sequence for 4 chords and then back to the original theme with no percussions but just the strings and the soprano lead, best fucking cadence ever.

I agree with the top 3 picks... if listened on their own. In regards to setting the mood and making me want to play, I think no theme outdoes Elden Ring's (which the creator mentioned however), even if the part playing at 12:00 makes me consider the DS3 theme to be overall winner. BB also really sets the mood as mentioned in the video. Lovely vid overall!
Witcher 1 has one of my favorite main themes. It instantly transports you into its gritty world of monsters and brutal monarchy. Also the one for Dark Souls 1 is technically its character creation theme; it has no main menu theme.

DS3 main theme is 90% responsible for me to fallen in love with FromSoft games. The first time I started the game, the bell tolls just grabs my attention, i looped it so much I lost count.
FRT, I was literally stuck at the menu screen for Dark Souls 3 for like two hours before starting the game up just because the theme was so enthralling.
Here are my preferences:
-1 DS3
-2 Elden Ring (Which shares some similarities with Demon's Souls theme if you listen closely)

5:03 I got confused, we're talking about a tier list for the menu music or the intro of the games, I know, your video your rules, but Dark souls 1 kind of doesn't have menu music, the music you showed is "A Moment's Peace" from character creation/selection, that being said I think the one from Demons souls should be the OST "Souls of Mist ( Character Creation again )" and not the OST "Demons souls" which despite being the song with the game's name is actually from the game's Introduction, just as Bloodborne has the OST "Omen" for the intro, you chose "The Night Unfurls" as the menu music, so Dark souls 2, Bloodborne, Dark souls 3, Sekiro and Elden Ring would was be wrong
It would be the menu music, but if there is none I'd pick what people would probably consider the "theme" of the game. I probably should have clarified that before going on in the video. It's rough for DS1 but I think a lot more people would identify the track I selected as the "main theme". It's not the most fair way of doing it, but it's just how I decided to go. I still would've ranked them pretty similarly either way though if that's any consolation!

It might be bias, but Bloodborne’s takes the cake for me by a long shot. It feels more aligned with the themes and atmosphere of the game than any other theme in the series.

In that regard, I feel that the others generate more appropriate feelings for their respective games, but it's still an excellent song so I understand that it doesn't drop from the top positions
