why do people despise the godskin duo fight when fire giant exists at least with godskin duo you can do things like sleep or bleed, fire giant is just garbage, no one strategy is good and hes insanely unfun
I feel elden beast boss fight actually grows on you, especially after doing it multiple times it doesn't feel as bad, godskin duo on the other hand is cancer incarnate
Let's not forget that Bed can kill you randomly LITERALLY before you even do anything in the fight. Had a no death run end when she decided to chaos storm me right as I got off the slide into the arena.
With Rom I never understood why people hated him so much. He was so damn easy. Laster when j had to fight him in the stupid chalice dungeons he was one of the most broken bosses in the game. But that goes with many of the chalice dungeons
Rom for me was one of the hardest and most annoying bosses in the game. He is hard boss in a wrong way, like a bad DS1/DS2 boss if you know what I mean. A gimmick fight with BS hitboxes and a ton of trash mobs who can almost one shot you. Only boss I died more to was Orphan of Kos and he was actually somewhat fun fight.
Rom is a she, but otherwise I agree! I really like her visual design and presentation. If every fight was a Ludwig or an Artorias, those fights would no longer be special.
The problem isn't Rom, it's the spiders that do ridiculous amounts of damage for how small and numerous they are. Most of the time they aren't a huge problem, but if two happen to attack at the same time you're probably dead, and the attacks come fairly quickly too For comparison, Rom can hit you by flailing her head or using her AoE and it does less damage than her baby spiders head-butting or taking a single swipe at you, only her arcane meteor spell does more damage than the babies
The godskin duo annoyed me, when I finally killed them both, half the health bar was still there and they kept respawning after 20 seconds until it reached 0. Would be cool if they patched it that if you killed both before the other respwaned it automatically ends the fight
@@chicken29843 I guess, I was more just saying it makes sense when you kill them both and there's still a health bar and one then two of them both magically appear out of nowhere again would be nice to reward players who are efficient enough to kill both prior to either spawning again, thus ending the fight. But as it stands right now, oh you don't have the right, oh you don't have the right! Praise the tarnished!
I can almost imagine that Prowling Magus was supposed to be something like what they eventually did in Dark Souls 3 with the Deacons of the Deep, where it's not really supposed to be that much of a challenge but rather a sort of spectacle of the crowd of enemies with you mowing through it to get to the one which actually "holds" the health bar, but were limited by the fact Bamco apparently pushed for the game to be a PS3/360 release.
I like Magus and Deacons! Magus is really easy but can still get you if you aren’t careful. And I love how Deacons have three distinct phases, ending in the massive room wide curse move.
Or use the pillers to block the Agro and use moonveil, rivers of blood, or sorcery and it becomes an easy fight. Since it’s an awfully designed fight I feel perfectly justified in pulling out the cheese for it.
I tried making them go around each side of the pillars making it a short window where i only had to worry about on of them. I wanted to complete the game using only greatsword, so that was my solution.
@@whiteprivilegedkkona2958 Kkong. Tried the same but it felt pretty inconsistent. Especially if the fat one rolls over the pillar. I just said fuck it, leveled blasphemous blade to +9 and threw sleep pots😵 Dont know what they were thinking with this one
Another tip, the godskin respawns are based off the counterparts health. If you only attack one godskin and never touch the other, the fight ends after only beating one
I feel like there’s a fine line between no summons for any boss and mimic tear rivers of blood. Especially for all the gank bosses with two reused enemies you’ve already learned. Usually the summons just take Aggro from one while you kill the other and then you can 1v1 the second after it dies. Everyone complains about all the poorly paired gank bosses in elden ring but if you don’t force yourself to fight them alone it’s super manageable
I personally have no problem with people who want to fight gank bosses the way they want. The problem I see is with people who make the game harder on themselves by not using mechanics and then complain that certain bosses are too difficult. I would never defend every gank boss, some of them are just not well designed. But people who insist on playing Elden Ring like it is Dark Souls and then complain that they have a bad time piss me of. The bosses are obviously going to be harder if you don't use the tools the game gives you, so you can not complain. That is comparable to someone doing a lv. 1 naked run only to cry that the game is harder now.
@@borrisderwutende7850 fighting (most) bosses with spirit summons is just straight up less fun. thats why people dont use it. you can complain about badly designed bosses if they are badly designed, and dark souls games have never been designed for 2v1s. if you do decide to summon that is fine, and is your business :)
@@funny1.510 it is completely fine if you don't like fighting bosses with spirits that was not what I was complaining about. I take issue with people that complain about difficulty when they are not using the mechanics of the game. You do you.
@@funny1.510 it is completely fine if you want to 1v3 that fight, but be reminded that you could have just used a spirit or a player summon to not take 3 hours for a basic encounter. Is the boss unfair and asinine if you do it alone with a melee build? Yes. Is it a good boss? No, it is two recycled bosses in room with a boring new mechanic. Are you a dumbass, if you keep hitting you head against a brick wall even when there is a door right next to you? Well, you have to answer that one. Again play the game how you want, but don't expect it to just bend to your playstyle.
i actually think he is the most underrated boss in the series. his quality lies within the lore, the atmosphere, the gimic and especially the voice acting
sure he might not be in the top 3 worst, but when you chase his dumbass for 20 minutes only to get one shot by his stupid call beyond, he is the most hated thing on planet earth for a good minute and a half.
@@sirgoo9962 The problem isn’t it’s difficulty. The problem is that it is completely artificial. The shared HP bar is arbitrary and nothing breaks immersion more than bosses inexplicably respawning after they die.
@@trutyatces8699 But aren't they summoning reinforcements, not ressurecting one another? Regardless there's a ritual there before a new Godskin arrives. As for difficulty, I can't disagree with the fact that most of it comes from there being two of them. Once one is dead, however, it just becomes a series of 1v1s, and by that point of the game the Gidskins aren't that hard individually. Either way, your point still stands, I guess.
The reason for the sound of the Gargoyles is because you are hitting them with a slashing weapon while they are weak to strike/blunt. Take notes because it's also a thing in Demon's Souls.
The Bed Of Chaos almost made me quit on my first playthrough of DS1, it's objectively the worst fight in all the games. But honestly, I don't dread it that much once you figure out a strat or a cheese it just becomes a waste of time. But if we're being honest the optional DLC bosses of DS2 in my opinion are the worst thing in any game I've ever played. The run to all of them is is an awful nightmare, and after that you're met with a reskin (blue smelter), a double reskin (lud and zahlen), and an extremely annoying 3v1 (I can't ever remember their names) the only way I was able to beat these 3 bosses, is by trying to run without wasting any heals to the fog gate, quitting, then I backup my save file and if I die I just replace my save over and over again until they die, because I'm definitely not running that shitty marathon like 20 times (case in point the 3v1) I actually did the save backup trick with the run to Sir Alonne as well, but I love his fight so much so I'm not complaining
DS2 was the first game that ever made me resort to using the backup trick lol, after suffering through the chariot run-up, smelter and Alonne, i just thought enough was enough. Alonne and Darklurker are great fights, but i'd never fight them without doing the save backup trick. Now i use it for the bed of chaos too if i don't get the cheese right the first time.
Ah I lost track of the amount of deaths-. It was my first souls game and I never did the save thing (I should've) but tbh it prepares you for every other game in their franchise. Health drop on death, excruciating run-ups to bosses - it just can't get any worse. I dropped the game before doing away with lud & zallen and darklurker solely because of how hard it is to get there.
I enjoyed the Rom fight….eventually. The spiders don’t so much respawn as multiply. If you kill the first wave then a new set spawn and if you kill them they stay dead……at least that’s how I remember it.
As I was going through all the games compiling these lists, if I went by how pissed off the boss made me, Rom probably would have been the number 1 worst boss. I tried to look a little more fairly at it but…yeah I couldn’t kick it out of that spot for now…I will admit I could be doing the fight wrong still after all these years, but the fight is so obnoxious to learn.
But the problem is, you have to kill each set of spiders which makes the fight even more tedious and boring, and if you die during that part, you have to do it all over again. And if you're in the NG+ cycles, the spiders deal insane damage and can one shot you with their head dives. I think it's the worse boss fight in the game despite its amazing spectacle.
@@Nightwalk2 I’m pretty sure you are not doing it wrong. I hated that fight for so long, even tried to ignore the spiders but kept getting wrecked. I’m going to go back and play through Bloodborne again so I’ll likely be on here in a matter of weeks agreeing entirely with the Rom fight 😊 Loving your videos by the way. Bloodborne is such an amazing game.
The first time i fought the Ancient Wyvern that exact thing happened to me, i clipped through him with the plunging attack, which confused me so much that i didn't even try it again until i saw someone else doing it successfully. I instead hid in a corner and killed it with bow and arrow. Riveting.
I actually enjoyed the Micolash fight. It was a unique fight and refreshing. In agreement about Bed of Chaos...Bed of Chaos is like trying to get the Fingerprint shield in Elden Ring.
I really like the Micolash fight on paper, it just needed more design tweaks to give it a greater sense of being lost chasing an elusive enemy. There's definitely worse bosses in Bloodborne.
I've beaten Bloodborne like five times now and Im always looking foward to the Rom the Spider fight. I get your complaints but the atmosphere and the music does it for me.
That's the thing with a lot of Bloodborne's base game bosses. The atmosphere and music are so effective at simultaneously hyping up the moment and masking the mechanical flaws/mediocrity of the fight. Not just Rom but One Reborn, Mikolash, Amygdala, these are far from well-designed bosses combat-wise, but I don't get bored of fighting them thanks to the soundtracks.
@@igee1605 disagreed. Shadows of Yharnam, Vicar Amelia, Father Gascoigne, Ebrietas and Gehrman are really good. And of course if we consider the DLC we also have Ludwig, Lady Maria and Orphan of Kos
Mikolash is a lazy, simple and uninteresting fight, it also has no depth or creativity in any way other than making you walk for 20 seconds before you get to hit the dude
4:48 I can understand why Belfry Gargoyles is hated, but I honestly don't mind it. The Gargoyles only show up based on certain hp thresholds, which is roughly two-thirds of a single Gargoyle's hp. Unless you're splitting your damage a ton, you should only be having to fight three Gargoyles at once. Depending on weapon upgrade/spells/resin you can burst down one while another does it's awakening animation as well, so you might not even fight more than two. The Gargoyle AI also becomes far less aggressive once you get them down to around half their individual hp. They favor ranged based attacks (namely fire because they almost never use their lightning lol) most of the time instead. You can effectively use some Gargoyles as a meatshield from others to a certain degree, too. There are still problems, like RNG of what attacks the Gargoyles go for, Gargoyles hitting through each other, etc. but all things considered it's pretty inoffensive at worst as a gank boss. I will not deny that it is worse than the Gargoyles from DS1, though that's more for reasons outside of mechanics, and it is lazy but it really isn't that bad when judged in a vacuum (unless, y'know, you're splitting damage and fighting all five at once with pure melee). Off the top of my head, I would have picked Ancient Dragon, Wolnir, Moonlight Butterfly, Capra Demon, and NPC Halflight all as contenders for this spot over it. The rest on the list I actually know stuff about (I've only played the DS trilogy, Sekiro, and half-ish of Elden Ring) are fair enough for worst 10. I've fought the gank squad so many times it's effectively become a "so bad it's good" type of fight but never in my life will I say it's well-designed lmao. I hate the Royal Rat Authority more than any other boss I have ever fought, though, and allow me to add more points to the bs list. The rats in the fight can not be distracted by alluring skulls. Arguably the worst thing you can do as a game designer is establish a mechanic and then contradict that mechanic in another instance. Alluring skulls WORK on distracting the rats in the Royal Rat Vanguard (and in general) but I guess these rats are just blinded by shit clouds and can't see the alluring skulls. It would have at least been manageable with that momentary break in aggro but Fromsoft had this genius idea instead. Also, the reward is garbage unless you play multiplayer a lot. The souls are non-existent for this stage in the game and Acid Surge is useless outside of PvP. If I don't outright skip the boss on my playthroughs, I will literally swap my entire build to a faith/hex/pyro build to use Soul Appease. It still works on the rats and usually oneshots them. Their hitbox is so broken they end up not even hitting me half the time when I run up to them to cast it as well.
Some polite, gentlemanly disagreements :) 10. I like Rom! There's something satisfying about picking off the little spiders one by one, baiting out their stupid little nosedives makes me feel like a hunter. And phases 2 and 3 feel like spinning a bunch of plates at once, needing to keep track of the like a dozen spiders plus Rom's attacks all at once. I can really feel my brain working on this one. 9. I summon the full NPC squad for Horsefuck Valley, then dismiss at the boss gate. As much as I try to solo most of the game, there are moments like this where it's much more fun to roll with a crew. Plus, needing to kill the first pet REAL fast before the other gets you is a fun/unique boss mechanic. 8. I honestly get kinda psyched for this one. It's a DPS check, where the best strategy is to go berserker mode. Unlike most DS2 bosses, I've found that raw, focused aggression pays off here. But I've never tried this on higher NG cycles, I imagine there's no DPS-ing your way out of a gank on that one. 7. Yea it's pretty annoying running past the snake guys. Fun to land the bullseye tho 6. FUCK Godskin Duo 5. Never really sure why people hate this one this one so much. To me, a bad boss is frustrating and unpleasant to play. And I've never felt like that fighting these guys. Sure, it's goofy that it's just a bunch of guys in a room. But honestly there's something carthatric in just stomping on these low-level mobs. Seems at worst like a mediocre fight, not a bad one. 4. Also garbo 3. On my most recent BB playthrough I realized that a pistol shot can interrupt A Call Beyond, if you get him early enough. So phase two became really tense and exciting for me. I wasn't just balancing dodging, hitting, and healing, I had to make sure at all times I had a proper window to get a shot off, else I'd get one shotted. Plus I like that it's one of the few times guns have real utility (besides parrying). 2. Also disliked gank squad, but I can see how it can be fun if you enjoy patient gameplay. I think the fight could be improved with better stealth mechanics and better AI. 1. I just do the speedrun/no-hit firebomb strat ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You still have to learn moves to kill a boss with a summon - but it turns it into a game of managing aggro - if you don’t let the boss aggro you often your summon will just die 99% of the time
I agree with your opinion on summons kinda ruining boss fights, but if the boss makes a worse boss list, I don't feel bad for using summons or multiplayer.
Rom itself only moves and spawns new spiders 3 times whenever it looses 1/3 of its health basically. It also spawns in new spiders at the beginning and with every time moving it also gains a new attack but like I said it only moves 2 or 3 times
i love micolash, mainly because he's just so weird and mysterious. i enjoyed his fight for the most part, but i get why a lot of players think he sucks
The only reason I started making videos was because I was trying to binge soulsborne content and I couldn't find any more high quality boss rankings. I was like...Imma do it myself.
I beat the Duo first try and I enjoyed fighting them kinda too. Just don't attack the Noble to get in him in his 2nd phase the whole fight, basically just attack Apostle. Also kite them around the parameter of the room to help not have to fight them together and to have the pillars block a lot of their fireballs.
Also beat them first try on my 4 runs. Don't really need a strategy for them, i usually just start killing the nobles since theyre always closer to me and it goes pretty well
Every gang fight in Elden Ring (aside from Rennala) are probably some of the worst boss fights in the entire franchise. They work really good as 1v1 bosses, but they are SO annoying to fight against in 2v1. And no, just because they are hard it doesnt mean they are fun. There are way better bosses that are really hard but also really fun and much less unfair/annoying.
Most of the duo fights want you to practice some different skills than what you'd use in a normal bossfight. There's a much higher emphasis on positioning and watching what each one is going to do in order to punish them. Except twin gargoyles in elden ring. They just spin around and cover the whole map with neverending combos
@@conniefan123 Fuck those gargoyles. I feel like most of the 2v1 fights do the same thing as them and instead of trying to test your reflexes, strategies and endurance, instead they just end up covering half the boss room with combos or status effects that make it so boring and frustrating to try to reach them.
Dam it’s a shame to see Micolash on here! He is 1 of my favourite bosses. I know the fight can be under whelming once you know it but my first play through he destroyed me with A call beyond! But once your learn to stay close to him he doesn’t have a chance. But I love the lore to him, he isn’t meant to be a tough fight, he isn’t a hunter, he is the leader of the school of Mensis. I love all his dialogue and it’s especially heart breaking when you kill him because he thinks he will wake up… but nope he doesn’t realise that his physical body died a long time ago… ha thanks for the video!

If only the bed of chaos had a 2nd boss phase after you kill the bug in the center of the tree, It would have been so much better. Imagine after killing the bug, the tree withered and from the tree you fight like a fire version of the Witch of Izalith.
fire giant is definitely up here for me: no clear line of sight, one shot attacks, that undodgable shield attack that the AI would hit when you hopped back on torrent, the fire second phase. Only boss that I ended up cheesing with swarm of flies (even though I was a complete strength build before) I could not get good lmao
Unpopular opinion: bed of chaos was fine and fit the lore as for what happened to the witch. It saves your progress between deaths so you don't have to do it flawlessly and if people took a second to stop finding reasons to piss themselves off they would laugh at some of the goofy ways it kills them
@@hatefulgaming1800 agreed but by no means am I saying it was a top tier boss. I just think most of the people complaining like most things blow the small things way out of proportion just to be dramatic
@@victor_734 that could be said of the entire games. For bed of chaos specifically it did a pretty good job of emphasizing what needed to be hit I immediately knew about doing the sides
I feel like the only reason they made ancient wyvern a boss is so you wouldn't be able to be invaded but still able to coop. Imagine a host having to deal with all the snakes, the dragon and an invader. It also wouldn't be fun for the invader since you'd also need to deal with the dragon's attacks too.
Good video, i would also put Duo Gargoyles from elden ring in due to garbage ai, stupid lock on hitboxes and dot poison for no reason, not to mention the incessant ganking
While I'm not going to argue they're a great fight, I do love the gargoyles individually, you can kinda burst the first down before the second causes real problems, and the arena is great. I think if they removed the tick damage on the poison cloud it would be a good fight.
Me: Looking forward to a comprehensive review of the worst bosses throughout the entire series. OP: I'm excluding nearly half the series because I haven't played it. ME: On to the next video.
I have a confession. The NPC gank fight in DS2 with the 3 randos is one of my favorite fights in the game. Idk, its just super fun for me to wear them down and fight this crazy battle of attrition. In fact, Prowling Magus and Congregation is also a fun fight imo. Not a GOOD fight but a fun fight.
Thats what many people fail to understand with Elden Ring. They complain about bosses cause they think Elden Ring still plays like Dark Souls. But in Elden Ring, From Software designed bosses around the new introduced spirit ashes. So in fights like Godskin Duo (or others that feel unfair 1v1) they expect the player to use these new tools. Like you said, if you turn that fight into an actual 2v2(or 3v2) it feels natural and is fun. Same goes for many, if not all of the late game bosses.
@@hatefulgaming1800 Spirit ashes have always been planned for Elden Ring. There has been heavy marketing on them and there was a leaked screenshot from 2019 floating around pre release showing a spirit ash summon and the player. But I would have loved the mimic quest though.
@@EldenLord. Yeah 2019 would be during the playtesting phase, also I would’ve liked to see the quest implemented but with Aismi being found in the overworld it probably was a bit too OP.
@@EldenLord. Yeah, it's fun watching the mimic tear tank every hit while you brainlessly hit the bosses in the back until they die. 0 Skill needed to beat Godskin Duo with Mimic and I know that for a fact, because that's how I did it.
I think the mistake many do with Rom is locking the camera. You need to aim for the body of the little spiders and it's hard doing so while locked on. Also, it might take your attention away from Rom, so you don't see when she's about to throw the meteorites. This fight seems worse on consecutive playthroughs because we try to do everything on a rush, when you're supposed to be slow and cautious. I get that everyone prefers when souls bosses are more like duels, but I like whenever FS tries something different that requires a change of strategy and playstyle.
My top 10. Ancient Wyvern 9. Micolash 8. Lud and Zallen 7. Capra Demon 6. Godskin Duo 5. Three warriors from DS2 4. Belfry Gargolyes 3.Elana Squalid Queen 2. Crucible Knight Duo 1. Bed of Chaos
How midir wasn’t in this one is astonishing he’s forgettable, the camera locks off half the time, you can barely see him, he has a one shot, he’s boring lore wise, and finally the elevator is annoying (nowhere near a bad boss run just really inconvenient).
I never actually hated Bed of Chaos all that much, at least compared to most other players. I think the reason for this is that I tend not to hate gimmick bosses as long as they're not gimmick "fights." The Bed of Chaos isn't a fight to me, it's just a boss with an unorthodox means of beating it. I don't like Micolash, Ceaseless Discharge, High Lord Wolnir etc. but I don't outwardly despise their fights because I don't see them as such, they're just obstacles with a health bar. But the Ancient Dragon, Godskin Duo, Lawrence, Rom, Royal Rat Authority etc. all constitute as actual battles in my book, and that's what makes me hate their design, because battles are meant to be balanced and not make you feel like you're wasting your time for a victory that won't feel earned anyway.
Quite the interesting point of view nightwalk. Although I haven't played DS2 myself I've seen lots of content about it and I can confidently say all of your picks were well warranted. They are all awful for various reasons. If I had to redeem one of them is Micolash, because it is true the maze like puzzle ends up being annoying but the concept is very good as well as the soundtrack.
you should def give ds2 a shot tbh. sotfs goes on sale for 10 bucks every now and then and it isnt the worst experience ( base game and crown of the ivory/old iron king (except for blue smelter run) at least)
This has to have been the best top ten souls ‘insert topic here’ list that I’ve watched in years just because the narration is so easy to listen to. A fair few reasonable picks too
Melania should have an honorable mention for her rule breaking mechanics. Animation canceling and commitment Input reading on neutral (literally punishes you just for playing the game) Stagger canceling Wake up hyper armor moves ( her spinning kick and sweeping dodge attack) Waterfowl dance able to spammed. They said, lets put a sekiro boss in a souls game but don't give the player innate abilities to deal with it. A truly garbage that is fitting for how rubbish the endgame area is.
Not to mention the rewards are subpar. A useless great rune, a "katana" that is outclassed by every other katana, and an armor set that doesnt really meld with any other pieces. Simply not worth fighting.
I disagree and so does Nightwalk and most other Souls TH-camrs. Demod put Malenia in the top 3 for ER and so did Nightwalk. She’s a phenomenally designed boss imo.
@@ryanbollinger1759 most other souls tubers don't know what makes a fight fun other than difficulty. Hard does not mean we'll designed or good. Melania is pure garbage, and the worst designed human enemy boss fight from has ever made next to micolash.
@Deadpoppin agreed! I had to beat this boss using OP Ashes of War on cool weapons. The Moonlight Greatsword and The Queen’s Black Blade Ashes of War on 2 different New Games were what I used just to beat that fucking idiot & claim her Great Rune.
Rom's great. She's a concept boss whose difficulty comes from forcing the player to approach her in a very particular way. Great design, great lore, great arena, unique fight. What's there not to love?
I agree on everything apart from the design, the fight is up there with Micolash as an immense time-waster, and one of the major blemishes in an otherwise perfect game. If i play too greedy, i risk getting divebombed by the little spiders, which causes me to play passively, carefully picking off the little spiders one by one for 3 whole cycles and even then there's a high risk of getting double divebombed by the spiders, that coupled with Bloodborne's insane counter damage can end a tedious run. This makes the boss fight extremely boring and tedious. Plus the boss doesn't make good use of Bloodborne's mechanics, it feels out of place mechanically. SInce i use the poison knife cheese on Micolash, this easily makes Rom the worst fight in Bloodborne for me.
Fromsoft really abused the Godskin spam. There's Apostle, Noble with a boss health bar, Noble without a boss health bar, Apostle and Noble together, Apostle and Noble back to back....and I feel like I'm missing one. Come on, who likes this fight THAT MUCH?
There are two Apostle solo fights, one in the windmill village in Altus, the other in the basement of the Divine Tower of Caelid. I quite like the solo Apostle fight, and didn't even mind the Godskin Duo that much, other than it being weird you have to kill them 2.5 times.
I like that you used an actual argument to not use spirit summons other than “it wasn’t the developers vision” when it clearly was since they out it there
I think a mistake people make with Godskin duo is presuming that the duo version was thought of LAST instead of FIRST, just because of their placement in Farum Azula. I would bet most people wouldn't make the same arguments if the exact same fight was the first time we saw either of them. I would even argue that the premise/concept of the Godskin duo WAS thought of before and of the individual bosses were conceved, since they play a little like Ornstein & Smough (but not as good)
Okay so I'm gonna offer a defense of the Godskin Duo because at no point in my five playthroughs have I struggled with those two. A.) Gank fights in Elden Ring that are just two of an enemy stuck together are not always "thoughtless." Some are, like the random ass Crucible Knight and Misbegotten, but Godskin Duo is not one. It should be obvious as soon as you fight them both separately that they will be fought together sometime. And the design of them AI wise, whether people want to do it or not, is explicitly done because the developers want summons to be used. They make this whole gamut of spirit summons so that you can use them however you want, whether destroying it with Tiche or distracting it with the Hawk. All the gank fights are designed because the developers want the summons to be used. I've never used them on a boss but I can still recognize that. B.) You also have boss fights individually against them that more than tip you off on how you should fight them. The Noble gets way more mobile in the second phase, so don't trigger its second phase. Just fight the Apostle and use the Noble as your control until the HP is low enough to focus down the Noble instead. I'm not saying it's amazing, but I think people vastly overblow the difficulty.
I don't really get the hate for the godskin duo, it's literally the only gank fight in elden ring that actually took into account that the player would have to fight two enemies simultaneously. The pillars offer protection even when broken and can be used to break them up, the godskins are courteous enough to not always assail you together (though that's true for a couple other gank fights too) and with focusing and good timing you can melt the godskins one at a time. It's also a fight that doesn't feel balanced around using spirit summons, but also doesn't get turned into a joke if you do summon. I fucking loathe micolash, but I'd say that he's one of the better gimmick bosses and the whole point is to get you to hate him. It works excelleny for the first time, but on repeat playthroughs he's a slog.
@@Celatra yes, which is exactly why I don't get how the godskin duo is hated so much, it offers pretty much the same exact thing as all competent gank bosses in the series.
@@playmsbk ....they don't. they really don't. contiunous respawning, almost impossible to separate the two, too much hp, too much damage, they can break the pillars too easily, input reading, they both have too much reach, etc
@@Celatra I'm going to take your points one at a time. Continuous spawning is the unique gimmick of this fight, and it's what you have to exploit to beat it. By understanding how it works, you can manage the godskin duo in the same way you can manage the four kings or the twin demons. The only thing I can say about this is no, it's not. The pillars, even when broken, force them to walk around them and the noble seems way more aggressive in my experience and definitely has more gap-closing moves. This aspect is very similar to ornstein and smough, only in this case ornstein is the fat guy. Not going to lie, the endgame is overtuned, but it's not a problem unique to the godskin duo and so I can't fault them for it. Once I adjusted to the regrettably unfair conditions of the endgame, the godskin duo didnt stand out at all in terms of being overtuned or difficult compared with the rest of the endgame content. In fact they're probably the easiest endgame boss barring Gideon ofnir and maybe dragonlord placidusax. Input reading has always existed in these games, have you forgotten that ornstein would attempt his bizarre floaty lunge 85% of the times you chugged some estus at a distance? In this game it's just a little too transparent and frankly stupid, if I heal right in front of a godskin he'll try to fireball me instead of hitting me with his damn weapon. The pillars work in the exact same way as they did with ornstein and smough, I bet fromsoft used the exact same code too. You mean they both have too much reach like the bell gargoyles, father ariandel and sister Friede, the twin demons, darklurker 2nd phase, ornstein and smough, the four kings and the shadows of yharnam?
Dude the world has gone to shit in many ways, but we are definitely in the golden age of content if you can get this high quality of a video from a dude with 4K subs. Awesome work man keep it up
I think this list is absolutely reasonable. The Gank bosses could be gone and the games would be better for it. I do kinda question your strategy for fighting Rom though. Initiating the fight from the head is basically throwing away free damage, when you could skip phase 1 by spamming transformation attacks into its side. A lot of things about the fight are still bullshit though, the chalice version kills me 15 times every time I do the chalices. (usually even overleveled)
That was from my first ever fight against Rom, taken from my playthrough on this channel. I wouldn't do that afterwards haha. Maybe I could have said that in the video.
No one even comes close to that one sorcerer in the upside-down tower in Elden Ring. The bit where you have to chase him around while he teleports and spams one-shot bow spells had me wishing for any of these bosses lol
Good vid, I really like Rom tho :( Also Ancient Wyvern is literally a good boss I will fight you on this....you just have to get better at lining yourself up :) But yes mostly agree
Other than the buggy hitbox when you actually go for the plunge (which does really drag it down to be fair), I really like it as well. While in future playthroughs you kind of just go through the motions, in the very first I thought it was an enjoyably chaotic experience with the serpent men swarming you and the dragon spewing fire. Not one of the best in the series for sure, but I like it for what it is.
@@blubber8510 ye its not a terrible fight i guess and i enjoyed literally every fight in the series including dark souls 2. i just think it wasnt nescesarrily good
My biggest gripe against the bed of chaos is that it took me forever to realize it was a gimmick boss. I try not to ever look up guides but that one made me wish I would have looked sooner.
Decent list, though I have to disagree with Micolash heavily and Rom a little as well. I thought Micolash had an insanely cool arena and the maze like structuring of it was quite impressive. I like his soundtrack, and the whole atmosphere of the nightmare of mensis is amazing. It's understandable that people don't like the gameplay of it, it is not the best, but not anywhere near bad enough to be on this list in my opinion. I share practically the same sentiment for Rom but I don't feel as strongly that he shouldn't belong on this list. Overall another enjoyable video from you :D
Considering the only right way to play the Micolash fight is to poison him repeatedly after he jumps down a hole, your assessment may not be entirely accurate. Imagine simping for a player character with just two attacks and a one-shot.
@@trutyatces8699 I never used poison in Bloodborne and still managed to kill him just fine, so I highly doubt I'm "simping" for a playstyle that's not the "right way to play".
@@trutyatces8699 I never poisoned him. In his second phase you have to stay aggressive and in his face so he never uses his one shot move which only activates when you’re some distance from him. But even though I can beat him and I enjoy his fight I think he belongs on this list. He’s annoying no matter how many times you fight him
Strangely enough, involving the royal rat authority is a great place for farming pharros lockstones. Essentially making this boss better to be alive than dead
Rom has no business being on this list. He is not that bad at all. Id argue godskin duo is also not as terrible as you described it. Id swap those 2 for crystal sage and ceaseless discharge.
@@victor_734 Crystal Sage is one of the most boring uninspired boss fights they created. Its just there. You kill it and forget it exists. Rom at least leavs a lasting impression.
This comment is exactly right, just like any good souls boss you have to be patient and look for openings. It seems that playing through ER with the easy ability to stagger bosses and cheese them with bleed has made a lot of people forget about this
I won‘t argue that bed of chaos is objectively the worst because it is fundamentally broken and doesn‘t work with the games mechanics. However it is far from being one of my least favorites in the series mainly because you can use quitouts to cheese the boss and they even give you checkpoints. Because of those things the boss just isn‘t all that frustrating to me. My least favorite boss of all time is the fucking godskin duo. I just have no idea how they even made it into the game. I cannot believe that, 7 games into the franchise, they still give us shit like this. My problems with elden rings bosses just keep growing with every playthrough, but godskin duo easily takes the cake. Design wise i think it‘s an embarrassment for from soft as it‘s basically everything that people hate about boss fights
Yeah I’m lucky I had a bleed build, I was able to kill them fast enough that after I killed one the other couldn’t respawn in time. I’m dreading doing it on my faith build though, especially since they have such high resistance.
@@jordanlutz8307 no matter what build, i usually just go in with a +10 mimic and try to just get it over with. Like i literally just get the mimic tear for this one boss and get all the upgrades for it because i‘m not doing that shit solo again

I really think Godskin Duo is getting too much hate. It's a bad boss for sure but it's not remotely close to some of the absolute horrors like Micolash, Bed of Chaos, gank squad, etc. It's lazy but it's at least two fun bosses, pillars to help with aggro, and the music is fantastic. It's like a tier above these bosses for me but still below average
Fighting Godskin duo without summons and an underleveled melee build is actually hell. If you use summons the fight becomes fine, but plenty of people don’t want to do that. At this point it’s basically a luck game
@@hououinkyouma616 I haven't had any issues with it in 3 playthroughs including a level 1 run. Never used summons. I was probably overleveled the first time and power stance ultra greatswords are kinda op but even at level 1 it wasn't much of an issue. I was dreading that fight because I heard so many horror stories about it from people on level but it took me 6 attempts. It was actually one of the bosses that killed me the least in the entire run. Also I love your name lol
@@SensDen Damn I have a different experience. I'll agree that Godskin Duo isn't that hard, but holy fuck is it annoying. I'm also doing an SL1 run rn, and I literally killed Malenia before I killed the Duo cause they're just so annoying.

Having to survive 3 waterfowl dances in phase 1 is very difficult and I haven't had enough attempts at phase 2 to really get it down. As for the duo it was hard to kill the first one but then after I was pretty much able to kill the next one while it was respawning the one I killed so it was very easy. The hardest boss with multiple enemies for me was by far Commander Niall. He nearly made me quit the run because those 2 knights are insane
I used my mimic during the Godskin Duo…. And strangely beat him in like the second try as the fatty was rolling. I was literally just dodging his roll, and boom!!! My mimic killed the other guy… it was just so unexpected. Here I was preparing for a crazy fight, and bam… it’s over 😕
Godskin Duo was a great boss in my opinion and the previous encounters help you understand their moves better. They’re just a hard but fair duo fight that uses the pillars to separate them, like O&S. A bad duo boss fight is actually the Crucible and Misbegotten Knight. They give nothing to help you and the arena fucks you harder with all the objects getting in your way. You probably just don’t like gank/duo bosses, which is acceptable but the Godskins aren’t bad because they’re fair. A boss shouldn’t be seen as bad for being too hard.
They're not fair. Other than needing pillars, good gank bosses also need different speeds. Obviously you can look at O&S for that. Not only do they have the same fast speed, making it near impossible to find an actual safe opening against them, but they also have great range, meaning that there is pretty never a time where you can get a hit on them without the possibility of being attacked before the animation was over. I honestly think using slow weapons makes the fight require luck to win unless you cheese.
@@aboithatsaboi182 I beat them with Radahns weapons while just being pure strength, no summons. You just have to attack at a good time and have the one guy behind a pillar while you attack the other. When they can break the pillars, run away from them out of pillar range, one guy runs to you, the other one just walks to you slowly and hit the guy who comes first. It’s just about being smart and not rushing in a hit to get a fire ball to the face. I prefer not taking the fat guy to phase 2 where he steam rolls you to death, I just keep killing the skinny guy and do some damage to the fat one. Their AI was also programmed to work in a fair way, they’re just a fair duo fight that requires patience.
@@BobBob-zt4od everyone I've heard saying the boss was easy was using a strength build. The boss imo is just garbage because they weren't meant to be a 2v1 fight and the difficulty is more artificial because in a lot of cases both of them are equally as aggressive and they also input read your heals.
I think the worst bosses (only played elden ring) would be ones that not only feel annoying mechanic-wise, but look absolutely ridiculous. Like imagine defeating dragons, slaying crucible knights, and putting down evil kings... all for stupid looking foreskin brothers to demolish you using their shear amount of foreskin to stretch to you or roll at you like a Bayblade using their ridiculous amount of belly fat. With players in pvp using ridiculour armor or face designs for pvp, at least you know it's intentional. But these two characters, Mr skinny penis and his brother Mr Chode, the devs want you to take them seriously. Don't even get me started on the giant person/ stick-like horse combo.
I think Elden Beast should be counted here too yeah it's a stunning design and on the first playthrough everything will have your jaw dropped, but all it does is run away from you. Not to mention it's attacks quickly become very lackluster, "oo it's swiping beams at me in an easy predictable rhythm. oh no, a circle on the ground." not to mention that Elden Stars move; hope you've been levelling endurance. Finally the run-up to the fight - Radagon of the Golden Order was a really fun fight, I thuroughly enjoyed learning his moves and mastering my dodges. But I dont want to have to fight him everytime I run out of stamina from having to chase a giant golden cockroach!
I beat the game elden beast once and I refuse to do that fight again. I have 3 SL150 builds and the other 2 I got to Radagon EB then stopped. It’s not a hard fight but I don’t enjoying playing tag in the Atlantic ocean
I agree; that sentient glass worm can eat a massive dong. And it’s not just the Elden Stars either; it’s the homing ball of light that tracks you, on top of follow-up attacks, and without Torrent, it’s fucking impossible! God, this fight is bad!

With Rom I never understood why people hated him so much. He was so damn easy. Laster when j had to fight him in the stupid chalice dungeons he was one of the most broken bosses in the game. But that goes with many of the chalice dungeons
Rom in the chalice dungeon is so difficult. Every hit is a one hot
@@LordCrx ...i mean i feel chalice rom is easier cuz you can take advantage of the pillars. by the time i reach rom in the chalices i melt em
Rom is a she, but otherwise I agree! I really like her visual design and presentation. If every fight was a Ludwig or an Artorias, those fights would no longer be special.
The problem isn't Rom, it's the spiders that do ridiculous amounts of damage for how small and numerous they are. Most of the time they aren't a huge problem, but if two happen to attack at the same time you're probably dead, and the attacks come fairly quickly too
For comparison, Rom can hit you by flailing her head or using her AoE and it does less damage than her baby spiders head-butting or taking a single swipe at you, only her arcane meteor spell does more damage than the babies

Quick tip for the tarnished: just use sleep pots in the godskin duo fight and you have the easiest boss fight in the game. Not annoying at all.
Or use the pillers to block the Agro and use moonveil, rivers of blood, or sorcery and it becomes an easy fight. Since it’s an awfully designed fight I feel perfectly justified in pulling out the cheese for it.
Or just use crimson breath, works wonders
I tried making them go around each side of the pillars making it a short window where i only had to worry about on of them. I wanted to complete the game using only greatsword, so that was my solution.
@@whiteprivilegedkkona2958 Kkong. Tried the same but it felt pretty inconsistent. Especially if the fat one rolls over the pillar. I just said fuck it, leveled blasphemous blade to +9 and threw sleep pots😵 Dont know what they were thinking with this one

For me the one saving grace of Godskin Duo is the soundtrack. That shit slaps unbelievably hard, easily one of my favorite songs in the whole series.

They're one of my favorite gank fight in all the games
The reason for the sound of the Gargoyles is because you are hitting them with a slashing weapon while they are weak to strike/blunt. Take notes because it's also a thing in Demon's Souls.
The Bed Of Chaos almost made me quit on my first playthrough of DS1, it's objectively the worst fight in all the games. But honestly, I don't dread it that much once you figure out a strat or a cheese it just becomes a waste of time.
But if we're being honest the optional DLC bosses of DS2 in my opinion are the worst thing in any game I've ever played.
The run to all of them is is an awful nightmare, and after that you're met with a reskin (blue smelter), a double reskin (lud and zahlen), and an extremely annoying 3v1 (I can't ever remember their names)
the only way I was able to beat these 3 bosses, is by trying to run without wasting any heals to the fog gate, quitting, then I backup my save file and if I die I just replace my save over and over again until they die, because I'm definitely not running that shitty marathon like 20 times (case in point the 3v1)
I actually did the save backup trick with the run to Sir Alonne as well, but I love his fight so much so I'm not complaining
I strongly agree

Some polite, gentlemanly disagreements :)
Fun to land the bullseye tho
6. FUCK Godskin Duo
4. Also garbo
Godskin theme is one of the only things that made the fight at least a little bit enjoyable to do
You still have to learn moves to kill a boss with a summon - but it turns it into a game of managing aggro - if you don’t let the boss aggro you often your summon will just die 99% of the time
As much as I love Malenia's theme, mixing it with ancient Wyvern is like mixing oil and water lmao
I will never forget the sheer panic and fear that I felt when encountering the god skin duo and realizing that you couldnt escape
I agree with your opinion on summons kinda ruining boss fights, but if the boss makes a worse boss list, I don't feel bad for using summons or multiplayer.
What's cool is that most weak boss fights usually have good music, lore and setting.
Rom itself only moves and spawns new spiders 3 times whenever it looses 1/3 of its health basically. It also spawns in new spiders at the beginning and with every time moving it also gains a new attack but like I said it only moves 2 or 3 times
By the way it’s still a shit boss I ain’t denying that
i like the soundtrack and the atmosphere at the micolash boss fight
The first time I faced him wasn't that bad - but after that I was done with him haha. I kind of wish he was optional...

Amazing that you figured that out in your first attempt man, respect for you

I beat them first try too, however I heard they were nerfed in a patch to make the fight easier.

If bed of chaos didn't save your progress I never would've beaten DS1
If only the bed of chaos had a 2nd boss phase after you kill the bug in the center of the tree, It would have been so much better. Imagine after killing the bug, the tree withered and from the tree you fight like a fire version of the Witch of Izalith.
fire giant is definitely up here for me: no clear line of sight, one shot attacks, that undodgable shield attack that the AI would hit when you hopped back on torrent, the fire second phase. Unpopular opinion: bed of chaos was fine and fit the lore as for what happened to the witch. It saves your progress between deaths so you don't have to do it flawlessly and if people took a second to stop finding reasons to piss themselves off they would laugh at some of the goofy ways it kills them
Yeah the only issue I have is that after you break the two restrictions it's pretty unintuitive that you have to run to the middle.
@@hatefulgaming1800 agreed but by no means am I saying it was a top tier boss. I just think most of the people complaining like most things blow the small things way out of proportion just to be dramatic
Problem is figuring out what you have to do without a guide
They are really annoying which is why I help people run them. If you don't race down the first it's very hard.
While I'm not going to argue they're a great fight, I do love the gargoyles individually, you can kinda burst the first down before the second causes real problems, and the arena is great. I think if they removed the tick damage on the poison cloud it would be a good fight.
Not to mention that you have to fight the gargoyle boss like 7 times
That actually was one of the few bossfights i enjoyed in eldenring
Me: Looking forward to a comprehensive review of the worst bosses throughout the entire series.
OP: I'm excluding nearly half the series because I haven't played it.
ME: On to the next video.
I have a confession. The NPC gank fight in DS2 with the 3 randos is one of my favorite fights in the game. Idk, its just super fun for me to wear them down and fight this crazy battle of attrition. In fact, Prowling Magus and Congregation is also a fun fight imo. Not a GOOD fight but a fun fight.
10:16 just laughed at the idea of defeating the Street Dwellers instead of Gascoigne or Cleric Beast
I used the npc summon and the mimic tear for Godskin duo and it ended up being one of my favorite fights in Elden ring because of how chaotic it was.
@@EldenLord. It's more likely that during play testing bosses were too hard so they added in the spirit ashes and removed the mimic quest.

How midir wasn’t in this one is astonishing he’s forgettable, the camera locks off half the time, you can barely see him, he has a one shot, he’s boring lore wise, and finally the elevator is annoying (nowhere near a bad boss run just really inconvenient).
Also just adding here he runs almost as much as eldenbeast
The correct term is SoulsBoRing
People can hate bad level design too. Considering the Bed of Chaos to be such doesn’t alleviate the problem for most.
So Dark Souls 2 has the best bosses confirmed.
Lol

Quite the interesting point of view nightwalk. Although I haven't played DS2 myself I've seen lots of content about it and I can confidently say all of your picks were well warranted. They are all awful for various reasons. If I had to redeem one of them is Micolash, because it is true the maze like puzzle ends up being annoying but the concept is very good as well as the soundtrack.
Valid points. Everyone is bound to have huge disagreements on this list and it's interesting seeing where everyone lines up. Thanks for the comment!
you should def give ds2 a shot tbh. sotfs goes on sale for 10 bucks every now and then and it isnt the worst experience ( base game and crown of the ivory/old iron king (except for blue smelter run) at least)
DS2 is a good game. People complain about it, but every souls game has its problems and DS2 doesn't have the biggest problems
This has to have been the best top ten souls ‘insert topic here’ list that I’ve watched in years just because the narration is so easy to listen to. A fair few reasonable picks too
Melania should have an honorable mention for her rule breaking mechanics.
Animation canceling and commitment
Input reading on neutral (literally punishes you just for playing the game)
Stagger canceling
Wake up hyper armor moves ( her spinning kick and sweeping dodge attack)
Waterfowl dance able to spammed.
The Moonlight Greatsword and The Queen’s Black Blade Ashes of War on 2 different New Games were what I used just to beat that fucking idiot & claim her Great Rune.
it's pretty hard to watch you hit rom and the spiders in their tiny strong point and also run around bed of chaos two handing instead of blocking
Kinda funny none of Pinwheel, Covetous Demon, Ceaseless Discharge and Deacons of the Deep made to this list.
Fromsoft really abused the Godskin spam. There's Apostle, Noble with a boss health bar, Noble without a boss health bar, Apostle and Noble together, Apostle and Noble back to back....and I feel like I'm missing one. Come on, who likes this fight THAT MUCH?
use. your. crafting. menu.
@@Artteza What does that have to do with a boss being repeated way too many times?
Yeah
It works excelleny for the first time, but on repeat playthroughs he's a slog.
.....have you fought ANY of the other gank bosses in the series?

I think the double gargoyle bossfight is the worst boss I've played in any soulsborne game so far but the godskin duo isn't far behind.

I actually really liked the Godskin Apostle Duo as solo. You really just need to use the pillars as cover and be patient. The music is incredible too.
The fat one sometimes manages to roll over the broken pillar in his phase 2, they are not 100% safe.
This comment is exactly right, just like any good souls boss you have to be patient and look for openings. It seems that playing through ER with the easy ability to stagger bosses and cheese them with bleed has made a lot of people forget about this
Never struggled with them either in 4 playthroughs all different builds too, no cheese just patience. Must just be play styles with ganks
I feel literally any of the gank bosses in elden ring could've made this list before Rahm.
Rom is literally a gank boss itself, and besides, elden ring allows summons which helps a lot
That Cemetery Shade with a horde of skeletons is worse than Rom any day of the week.
I beat it first try. Strength build was very very strong against them.
Chill out godskin duo was a fun fight and deserved its place in the game
@@henrikblomqvist720 glad you enjoyed it but to me it‘s nothing but a lazily thrown together, copy pasted trash boss fight. I‘d expect them to do this kinda shit in ds2 but not in elden ring
No bad boss from sekiro just shows the overall quality of all bosses
@@hououinkyouma616 Malenia is the last boss I have in that run. She's killed me like 120 times.
Here I was preparing for a crazy fight, and bam… it’s over 😕
Mimic OP that’s why
People be like "Oh man I hate having to run after Elden Beast" and then say stuff like "Micolash fight is great :)"
:D
@L you would be surprised what I've seen said online
Dude it’s wild how many views your videos get with like no subscribers. Love the content
@@BobBob-zt4od basicly everyone in the community hate the Boss
You had too do 1000damage too find that boss fight good
@@BobBob-zt4od everyone I've heard saying the boss was easy was using a strength build.
I unironically love Godskin duo.
And even more unironic, they are probably my favorite boss in Elden Ring if Radahn and Godfrey didn’t exist
I like the fight too
Bro how did capra demon not even make the list?
I think Elden Beast should be counted here too
yeah it's a stunning design and on the first playthrough everything will have your jaw dropped, but all it does is run away from you.
My only gripe with Elden Ring is the reuse of bosses. Either than that, it’s perfect.
no way Micolash is bottom 3 man, using a beast roar makes him a pushover
Never used Beast Roar on him, but I DID use Poison Knives in his 2nd phase.
Godskin Duo is unexcusable. They always one crappy boss towards the second half of the game.
Really enjoyable fight for me
valiant gargoyles belong here
