I hate it when people blame outside forces like Chara for your actions. You chose to manipulate Noelle. You chose to do the genocide. You are the greatest threat to the universe, as said by Flowey. You are the villain of the genocide and snowgrave route.
I feel like some people get so lost in the lore of deltarune and undertale that they forget that both those games are supposed to highlight a relationship between the player and the game they are playing. Chara, as they appear in the genocide run, doesn’t actually appear to be sadistic or anything, they just say that they themselves represent power, and the positive feeling a player gets whenever they level up. They are just the representation of the satisfaction a player feels whenever they level up in an rpg… it’s just that playing that way in undertale means killing all the characters. Chara is just like “ok we’re so strong we broke this world, onto the next.” But in this case, Noelle is basically The video game trope of a low lvl party member. Someone who joins at a lower level that you have to grind to a higher level by feeding them kills. It’s just that noelle is a person, so kris (but really the player) telling her to kill all these enemies is traumatic. Yes you can grind her to the point where she can one shot the boss, but the boss is… berdly…
Well Chara, is definitely a evil force, I mean they weren’t exactly a good person even in life since they ruined Asriel’s, life you can’t deny that, and wanted to basically kill humanity i get where’s there coming from a lot of days, but Jesus their not a Angel, and clearly can be a kind of evil spirit, but yes they are definitely manipulated as well in terms of Undertale, but since it’s a different universe I don’t care Chara, is a evil bastard because we didn’t even kill anyone in Chapter 1, and Kris, still goes evil at the end.
Notice that while he’s saying the same sort of stuff like he does in the normal route, but his wording, and his attitude are completely different, and you can even see it in his expressions.
Not just his expressions. He was talking a lot about how he wanted to protect Noelle in pacifist, but she got hit by attacks constantly. In this fight, he ONLY targets Kris.
Pretty interesting how in the pacifist route, most people REALLY hated Berdly and joked about wanting him dead but in the snowgrave/genocide route when you actually murder him, it hurts. Either way, going to have respect the guy for bravely standing his ground until the end against a powerful and cruel manipulator to save his friend.
Berdly clearly has self-worth issues with his backstory and facade, but time and time again some hints of his true caring self has been sprinkled in the dialogue, so yeah. That hurts. People also tend to forget that they are just KIDS.
I think it's cool to see (no pun intended) how Berdly's demeanor changes when he knows he faces serious danger and wants to save a friend. That annoying facade broke down instantly which shows that he does care.
I feel like it’s possibly implied because it says you put all the junk away in the room and if you try to go back in it says that you have no reason to go back in there.

Why hasn’t anybody commented on the fact that normally Berdly’s sprite in battle had a little smirk or smile. But on snow grave when fighting noelle, his cocky smile is gone and so is his happy expression
He acts completely normal during the cutscene before the fight, and that somehow impresses me. Like "holy shit Berdly's actually capable of becoming serious when he knows it's about to go down"
I didn't catch that in my playthrough since the ring of thorns drains her health. But what I did see: If Kris falls, Berdley tries to tell Noelle that she can escape now but she says that she can still hear your voice issuing commands.

Birdly is underrated. He will become a pretty good Allie in the future he can be nice to Kris and just needs unwakeing similar to Susie. He treats Kris ok when you give him the present.
Well, in pacifist he knows you wouldn't hurt Noelle since well, if you're nice to her he's ok with that. But he never forgives anyone who hurts Noelle in any way since she is berdly's only true friend, and he wanted to give Noelle the best ending he could give her. Notice how when Noelle was playing the game with her dad, she used Iceshock despite the enemy typing out of habit. Also, she is very insistent of taking control, possibly because she was being taken control of in the Dark World. She wants to feel a sense of control again in any way possible.
I’ve always been in the “spare everyone” camp, and Berdley grew on me fairly quick...had no idea it was possible to kill him but it’s nice to see further confirmation that he actually does care about his friend.

Seems like the game is making a point about player agency vs the character's agency, and the fact that the game calls YOU out specifically for these horrible, manipulative actions is haunting. poor noelle... her mom is strict and cold, her dad is dying, her friend is seemingly possessed and she doesn't have the courage to stand up to them... to US, the player... so fucked up. This is why I never do genocide runs... i feel too guilty! I just want them to have fun, help their friends, and save the world lol

The battle music in the Berdly fight sounds so sinister. it gives you this feeling of impending doom, Noelle is way to strong at this point and you know it won't end well for him. Then it just goes completely silent afterwards.

It isn't killing her. The flavor text says the ring uses pain so the wearer can become stronger... something along those lines. Noelle's HP stops dropping around 55,and because Berdley only attacks Kris, it stays that way Taken from numerous other comments: 55 in roman numerals is LV, which alludes to undertale's "LOVE", or "Level Of ViolEnce" if you will I've only ever played Deltarune tho

What gets me is how Noelle's eyes roll back into her head and she basically loses control of herself when she casts Snowgrave, which is appropriate since you've basically mentally broken her to your will at this point. She's just an RPG tool to do damage.
Love the subtle details in this fight compared to the normal route. In this fight, berdly’s battle sprite has a serious look on it instead of his usual smirk. When he winds up for his attacks his expression is also more angry instead of smug. He also, from what ive seen, exclusively targets kris unlike the pacifist version. Berdly’s usual facade is gone here and hes clearly very serious about protecting noelle from kris when he truly believes shes in danger. Poor birdly.
The game is literally telling us that we, the player, *the one controlling Kris through the soul,* are the real villian. We are the ones doing all this. We are making decisions against Kris's will and forcing him to do and say things he doesn't want to. And that's why he disconnects our control over him by ripping the soul out so that you can't stop him from making his own decisions. But he can't throw the soul away as he can't live without it.
If Kris knows how dangerous we players are, why don't they try to warn others that there's something owning them and controlling them? Why don't they seek help to find a way out of our control? If they warned the other characters, it could have prevented us from manipulating Noelle, it could have saved the other characters. Why doesn't Kris do anything like that to try and stop us?

@@saiyanfang1047 That’s just a fannon idea though, because personally i think it’s because she was so determined to stop you in that moment especially after how many monsters you killed in the underground at the time, so she awakens into her Undying, form, because i feel like she didn’t understand what was happening, but knew she had to awaken into her power deep down, because if she was injected with determination i think she would have already been in the form, or would have said “Now get a taste of my own determination you damn monster no whatever you are.” Isn’t of what she said so nah that isn’t cannon, or official, it is a cool idea though, but it’s pretty popular.
1:03, if you look at Berdly's expression during this attack animation, you see that in both parts of the animation, his expression is completely different: When he's normally charging up his attack, his eyes just shrink and nothing else, but in Snowgrave, he gives a nasty glare towards Kris's direction. Finally, when he's actually attacking and holding the spear, his eyebrows are straight, showing that he's legitimately furious and no longer being arrogant. Berdly was no longer joking around, and was fully prepared to outright kill Kris if it meant saving Noelle.
You know what I like most about this? Everything about it feels wrong. Snowgrave feels like the game not knowing how to account for your actions. It feels like everything is falling apart. And it comes to a head in the battle with Berdly. The music, usually enthusiastic and grooving, is low and sinister. The sound effect of casting Snowgrave is shrill and ear-piercing. The ray of ice encasing Berdly is just this NOISE that feels like warped scraping metal. Sound design is a big part of video games and Toby Fox has nailed it through and through.
This route genuinely feels as if the game itself doesn't want you to play it. So incredibly specific, ridiculously precise, and at every possible opportunity the game gives you the chance to just stop, think about what you're doing, and get back on the right path.
To think you didn't just kill someone here, but you mentally broke another person while you were at it, this shit is already far darker than an UT genocide route. *EDIT: we're all entitled to our own opinions, just don't get hostile about it okay replies?*

@@tnynfox1669 In undertale, it mentions a coma-like state called 'fallen down'. Monsters are only in this state for a period of time before they turn to dust. So, Berdly is officially dead unless ralsei unfreezes him with heat magic (which goats usually have) or if someone somehow breaks berdly out.
I'm gonna love to see how this plays out. With Kris taking a life in pacifist, and Noelle taking many in 'genocide' it'll be fun to see what direction he goes. One annoying thing though is that it'll take forever to do every run now that there's multiple parts

I know her demeanor changes in many ways as you progress through snowgrave. For example, if you act on one of the virus boys, she normally falls over in her nurse outfit, but she doesn’t while in snowgrave.
After equipping the thorn ring,(or maybe the freeze ring), Noelle gets a new set of battle sprite animations. Especially the entry into battle sprite, which was her freaking out, now changed to her resisting entering the battle in some way, to show how strong and fearless you have made her.
The music, her eyes, everything creeped me out, but the sad thing is that kris manipulated a poor innocent girl who has NO idea what’s happening to kill her group partner in like, almost everything. edit: bro can y’all stfu it’s literally just a minor mistake
i know most people really don’t like berdly, but since i see a lot of myself in him, watching this made me feel so weird. especially since lots of other players in the pacifist route joke about wishing they could kill him.

Even if Berdly is quite kinda bad with Kris and friends he was not that sort of a bad guy at all so I kinda feel bad for him after Noelle snow grave him to death
Berdly was an ass but he was never irredeemable. He was just a dumb kid with a big ego. But when the cards are down, his heart is right where it should be. That's what makes him a great character in spite of his flaws.
Actually, I theorise that Berdly and Kris were good friends, because they both seem to know alot about 'Super Smashing Fighters' we know Kris is good at games because Susie mentions it before they play the arcade game. Still though, he didn't deserve any of that. He said that he had to act smart to feel superiority. (most likely to boost his self-esteem) and the poor kid died to the hands of the player.
Something I find interesting is how people automatically assume Kris is, indeed, a self-insert character whose personality is shaped around the player's. But then when they do the snowgrave route, this completely changes to "Kris is [their own character and is] evil." Perhaps this is a case of denialism: them denying fact because they simply do not want to hold themselves accountable for their actions. Which... says a lot about people, doesn't it? I guess Deltarune really is a 'survery program'

I think the people who dislike berdly don't understand his character. you have to remember, they're all kids. he obviously has low self esteem and he sees all these people as much more intelligent than himself. he tries to make himself appear smarter so he won't feel so stupid, but in the game you keep showing him time and time again that you're better than him. it weighs on him. everyone sees him as annoying, when he's just a kid trying to be better, and he keeps getting knocked down. i really love him as a character
on the dark world, take her watch away from her inventory and put it in yours, at the hospital, instead of talking about your voice as being terrifying she will say "if it was all just a bad dream... then why are you wearing my watch? when did you get this?"
My favorite part of the snowgrave route story-wise has to be how alienated and unimportant Queen becomes. It helps demonstrate how, though it all may seem real, this is just a collection of fantasies from a couple teenagers, which is obviously reflected in Queen's cheesiness in the normal route. But when things get serious, such as when Berdly realizes that he's in actual danger, it's interesting to see him so serious as it's almost a sort of moment of "snap out of it, this is REAL danger." I think the absence of Queen's melody in Berdly's Snowgrave theme also reflects this, as she's really just a pretend obstacle for fun in the normal route, thus making her unimportant when compared to the actual danger of Kris's, or rather, our own, actions.
Personally I’m going to wait until all of Deltarune, is out until i go full Genocide, I’ll start a whole new run, and just murder everyone who gets in my way focus on getting armor, and weapons not just armor, and healing items, and just see where it ends up, I can’t wait to see, and only myself i won’t spoil anymore, i just did to figure out about Genocide, but since it’s possible now, I’m excited to try it, but I think Deltarune, is getting really dark for a few chapters even without Genocide.

There's more. You need to take her watch and then say nothing at the end (choose "..."). Then the real terror kicks in, as she realizes it's was not a dream, because you have her watch.
Notice how when you called for help the text box says *kris* called for help when they asked help from susie and ralsei but when you called for help from Noelle its *you* who asked for Noelle's help
It's interesting to me how in the snowgrave route there's a lot more dialogue happening out of our sight? I don't know yet if that's significant, maybe it represents the player's disinterest in these character's lifes like how we don't take a look at Susie and Noelle's little scene together, but it feels like people might suspect Kris is acting strange at least
Honestly, the way Berdly's in a completely different position after he's encased in the ice is subtly the most disturbing part of his death. Usually, in fiction, flash freeze powers/effects are shown as being so instantaneous that the target has no time to twitch so much as their pinky. Here, however, Berdly is seemingly reacting to something. Those moments were mostly likely so indescribably painful that he reflexively tried to escape in a panic even with how relatively short it was.
I've seen movies, games, shows that had the same trop of "if you die in a dream (nightmare), you die in the real world" and all of them didn't unhinged me. But here, seeing berdly lifeless corpse while Noelle calling for him. Made my jaw drop, and I was shaking in fear, feeling terrible at myself (I didn't even do the route, I was watching someone doing it) this goes to show how Toby hes a mastermind of making people feeling shit even if they didn't do it
I never hear people talk about Spamtons dialogue while you're calling your friends for help. It really sounds like he's talking more about himself rather than Kris and or the player

Everyone feels bad for Berdly, but when I got spoilers for Snowgrave, I wasn’t even mad. I was overjoyed ‘cause I learned I got to kill the fried chicken ass bastard
But how long would it be before the doctors take him off life support? Doctors and his family would just think he was in a comatose or even brain dead state and eventually pull the plug. The only people who knew what really happened are Kris and Noelle. Kris is possessed by the player, or maybe the knight that awakens the darkness. They probably wouldn’t be able to help even if they wanted to. Noelle doesn’t know how to get back to the Dark World, and there might not even be a way to get back and unfreeze Berdly since the fountain was closed. Even then, would she be able to resist the “voice”? How long would it be until she became another thrall for the player, like Kris?
It might just be either video compression or a weird thing with how the overworld ice crystal is handled, but after Noelle's "What..." line, Berdly's ice block gets slightly dimmer. Maybe some sort of implication that he's well and truly dead before the end of the chapter, even?

Not just his expressions. He was talking a lot about how he wanted to protect Noelle in pacifist, but she got hit by attacks constantly. In this fight, he ONLY targets Kris.
Pretty interesting how in the pacifist route, most people REALLY hated Berdly and joked about wanting him dead but in the snowgrave/genocide route when you actually murder him, it hurts.
Either way, going to have respect the guy for bravely standing his ground until the end against a powerful and cruel manipulator to save his friend.
Berdly clearly has self-worth issues with his backstory and facade, but time and time again some hints of his true caring self has been sprinkled in the dialogue, so yeah. That hurts. People also tend to forget that they are just KIDS.

I didn't catch that in my playthrough since the ring of thorns drains her health. But what I did see: If Kris falls, Berdley tries to tell Noelle that she can escape now but she says that she can still hear your voice issuing commands.

The battle music in the Berdly fight sounds so sinister. it gives you this feeling of impending doom, Noelle is way to strong at this point and you know it won't end well for him. Then it just goes completely silent afterwards.
It kind of reminds me of Susie fighting lancer in Chapter 1, except you the player have all the power to affect the outcome here.

Love the subtle details in this fight compared to the normal route. In this fight, berdly’s battle sprite has a serious look on it instead of his usual smirk. When he winds up for his attacks his expression is also more angry instead of smug. He also, from what ive seen, exclusively targets kris unlike the pacifist version. Berdly’s usual facade is gone here and hes clearly very serious about protecting noelle from kris when he truly believes shes in danger. Poor birdly.

The game is literally telling us that we, the player, *the one controlling Kris through the soul,* are the real villian. We are the ones doing all this. We are making decisions against Kris's will and forcing him to do and say things he doesn't want to.
And that's why he disconnects our control over him by ripping the soul out so that you can't stop him from making his own decisions. But he can't throw the soul away as he can't live without it.
If Kris knows how dangerous we players are, why don't they try to warn others that there's something owning them and controlling them? Why don't they seek help to find a way out of our control? If they warned the other characters, it could have prevented us from manipulating Noelle, it could have saved the other characters. Why doesn't Kris do anything like that to try and stop us?

1:03, if you look at Berdly's expression during this attack animation, you see that in both parts of the animation, his expression is completely different:
When he's normally charging up his attack, his eyes just shrink and nothing else, but in Snowgrave, he gives a nasty glare towards Kris's direction.
Finally, when he's actually attacking and holding the spear, his eyebrows are straight, showing that he's legitimately furious and no longer being arrogant.
Berdly was no longer joking around, and was fully prepared to outright kill Kris if it meant saving Noelle.
You know what I like most about this? Everything about it feels wrong. Snowgrave feels like the game not knowing how to account for your actions. It feels like everything is falling apart. And it comes to a head in the battle with Berdly.
The music, usually enthusiastic and grooving, is low and sinister. The sound effect of casting Snowgrave is shrill and ear-piercing. The ray of ice encasing Berdly is just this NOISE that feels like warped scraping metal.
Sound design is a big part of video games and Toby Fox has nailed it through and through.
The entire Snowgrave route feels like a creepypasta in the most horrifying of ways.
This route genuinely feels as if the game itself doesn't want you to play it. So incredibly specific, ridiculously precise, and at every possible opportunity the game gives you the chance to just stop, think about what you're doing, and get back on the right path.

@@tnynfox1669 In undertale, it mentions a coma-like state called 'fallen down'. Monsters are only in this state for a period of time before they turn to dust. So, Berdly is officially dead unless ralsei unfreezes him with heat magic (which goats usually have) or if someone somehow breaks berdly out.
I'm gonna love to see how this plays out. With Kris taking a life in pacifist, and Noelle taking many in 'genocide' it'll be fun to see what direction he goes. One annoying thing though is that it'll take forever to do every run now that there's multiple parts

I know her demeanor changes in many ways as you progress through snowgrave. For example, if you act on one of the virus boys, she normally falls over in her nurse outfit, but she doesn’t while in snowgrave.
After equipping the thorn ring,(or maybe the freeze ring), Noelle gets a new set of battle sprite animations. Especially the entry into battle sprite, which was her freaking out, now changed to her resisting entering the battle in some way, to show how strong and fearless you have made her.
The music, her eyes, everything creeped me out, but the sad thing is that kris manipulated a poor innocent girl who has NO idea what’s happening to kill her group partner in like, almost everything.

Actually, I theorise that Berdly and Kris were good friends, because they both seem to know alot about 'Super Smashing Fighters' we know Kris is good at games because Susie mentions it before they play the arcade game. I think the people who dislike berdly don't understand his character. you have to remember, they're all kids. he obviously has low self esteem and he sees all these people as much more intelligent than himself. he tries to make himself appear smarter so he won't feel so stupid, but in the game you keep showing him time and time again that you're better than him. it weighs on him. everyone sees him as annoying, when he's just a kid trying to be better, and he keeps getting knocked down. i really love him as a character
on the dark world, take her watch away from her inventory and put it in yours, at the hospital, instead of talking about your voice as being terrifying she will say "if it was all just a bad dream... then why are you wearing my watch? when did you get this?"
My favorite part of the snowgrave route story-wise has to be how alienated and unimportant Queen becomes. It helps demonstrate how, though it all may seem real, this is just a collection of fantasies from a couple teenagers, which is obviously reflected in Queen's cheesiness in the normal route. But when things get serious, such as when Berdly realizes that he's in actual danger, it's interesting to see him so serious as it's almost a sort of moment of "snap out of it, this is REAL danger." I think the absence of Queen's melody in Berdly's Snowgrave theme also reflects this, as she's really just a pretend obstacle for fun in the normal route, thus making her unimportant when compared to the actual danger of Kris's, or rather, our own, actions.

Personally I’m going to wait until all of Deltarune, is out until i go full Genocide, I’ll start a whole new run, and just murder everyone who gets in my way focus on getting armor, and weapons not just armor, and healing items, and just see where it ends up, I can’t wait to see, and only myself i won’t spoil anymore, i just did to figure out about Genocide, but since it’s possible now, I’m excited to try it, but I think Deltarune, is getting really dark for a few chapters even without Genocide.

@@joshshrum2764 I wouldn’t put it past Toby Fox to have the actions from one save file ‘bleed’ into the other saves to be honest, the same way that Genocide corrupts future Pacifist runs in Undertale.

This was the moment I really felt horrible for Berdly. Underneath it all, he really cares. He can be extremely serious when his friends are in danger.
Notice how when you called for help the text box says *kris* called for help when they asked help from susie and ralsei but when you called for help from Noelle its *you* who asked for Noelle's help

It's interesting to me how in the snowgrave route there's a lot more dialogue happening out of our sight? I don't know yet if that's significant, maybe it represents the player's disinterest in these character's lifes like how we don't take a look at Susie and Noelle's little scene together, but it feels like people might suspect Kris is acting strange at least

Honestly, the way Berdly's in a completely different position after he's encased in the ice is subtly the most disturbing part of his death. Usually, in fiction, flash freeze powers/effects are shown as being so instantaneous that the target has no time to twitch so much as their pinky. Here, however, Berdly is seemingly reacting to something. Those moments were mostly likely so indescribably painful that he reflexively tried to escape in a panic even with how relatively short it was.
I've seen movies, games, shows that had the same trop of "if you die in a dream (nightmare), you die in the real world" and all of them didn't unhinged me. But here, seeing berdly lifeless corpse while Noelle calling for him. Made my jaw drop, and I was shaking in fear, feeling terrible at myself (I didn't even do the route, I was watching someone doing it) this goes to show how Toby hes a mastermind of making people feeling shit even if they didn't do it
I never hear people talk about Spamtons dialogue while you're calling your friends for help.

technically he isn't dead because if he was he would've been turned to dust in the computer lab. he's more in a permanent coma than actually dead.
More like his soul (concience) is frozen inside so he is in an ultra deep coma
But how long would it be before the doctors take him off life support? Doctors and his family would just think he was in a comatose or even brain dead state and eventually pull the plug.
The only people who knew what really happened are Kris and Noelle.
Kris is possessed by the player, or maybe the knight that awakens the darkness. They probably wouldn’t be able to help even if they wanted to.
Noelle doesn’t know how to get back to the Dark World, and there might not even be a way to get back and unfreeze Berdly since the fountain was closed.
Even then, would she be able to resist the “voice”? How long would it be until she became another thrall for the player, like Kris?

It might just be either video compression or a weird thing with how the overworld ice crystal is handled, but after Noelle's "What..." line, Berdly's ice block gets slightly dimmer. Maybe some sort of implication that he's well and truly dead before the end of the chapter, even?
