There is a window within the 70’s where these songs stood out clearly and the instrumentation showed how rock music still had substance. The musicianship of Supertramp is pleasing to the ears. The interweaving of the voice parts ( fugues) are incredible. May the youth discover this great music and learn to appreciate it. Thanks for sharing. Cheers❤

My mum n dad used to do the 'big shop' every Friday afternoon. I'd ask them to keep my 50p p/w pocket money and write down the name of a song to buy on my behalf. No matter how old or random a tune may have been 99.9% of the time I'd get home from school and it'd be waiting for me. The Logical Song however, and for a totally unknown reason, was a struggle. Four Fridays on the trot I got home ridiculously more excited than the week before to face disappointment. On the fourth week my mum, bless her heart, got me a replacement (I assume because she could see my face each previous week and my sadness. I've never forgotten that feeling I had on the fifth week when it was acquired! I listened continuously for nearly an hour boring even my usually patient and tolerant parents, but it didn't get that much airplay at the time I thought and so I was absolutely gagging for those lyrics and that melody especially! Still an all-time favourite xx

    • @VinylsPopsAndClicks
      @VinylsPopsAndClicks  ปีที่แล้ว +6

The A/D converter used is a Texas Instruments Burr Brown chip. The result is a PCM 48 Khz Wave uncompressed file but, unfortunately, TH-cam converts the audio track to an AAC 320 Kbits, that is still an high quality audio.
No equalization or dynamic manipulation is made while recording from the vinyl.

See, I can’t do it too many to name. Supertramp live was enrapturing seats were up front and center, had to convince my friend Angie, to leave the venue after show she kept clapping and yelling wanting to get asked backstage to meet the band (maybe she was onto something?) 😂 great memory may she RIP. • @panthera50
    @panthera50 ปีที่แล้ว +44

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful
A miracle, oh, it was beautiful, magical
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily
Oh, joyfully, oh, playfully watching me
But then they sent me away to teach me how to be sensible
    Logical, oh, responsible, practical
Then they showed me a world where I could be so dependable
    Oh, clinical, oh, intellectual, cynical
There are times when all the world's asleep
    The questions run too deep
    For such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned?
    I know it sounds absurd
Please tell me who I am
I said, now, watch what you say, they'll be calling you a radical
    A liberal, oh, fanatical, criminal
Oh, won't you sign up your name? We'd like to feel you're acceptable
    Respectable, oh, presentable, a vegetable
Oh, take, take, take it, yeah
But at night, when all the world's asleep
    The questions run so deep
    For such a simple man
Won't you please (oh, won't you tell me)
Please tell me what we've learned?
(Can you hear me?) I know it sounds absurd
(Oh, won't you tell me) please tell me who I am
Who I am, who I am, who I am
    Ooh
    Hey
'Cause I was feeling so logical
    Yeah
    D-D-D-D-D-D-D-Digital
    Yeah, one, two, three, five
    Oh, oh, oh, oh, yeah
    Ooh, it's getting unbelievable
    Yeah
    Getting, getting, yeah, yeah
    Uh, uh, uh, uh

I discovered Supertramp in my mid-20s in the mid 2000s, they started me down the path. I carry the message if “Crime of the Century” in my heart, always.
Their lyrics at 100 times more relevant today, society has gone down a slippery slope since Roger wrote the album in his youth.
“Watch what you say, they’ll be calling you a radical a liberal, fanatical a criminal.”
The stakes are much higher today, all it can take is a single sentence on social media to destroy your life at the hands of a judgmental, hair trigger society.

New sub here. I found the "Goodbye Stranger" song, which is a special song for me, and am pleased with the uncompressed sound. Thanks.

No they dont.. This generation hasn't a clue to what it means to see a musical group that plays their instruments

I remember hearing this album song first time at a friend's who had a good sound system. It was awesome. We were having a few beers and well, ummm something else smokable... Great... I was in College, like 1979/80 after a vacation in the Marine Corps including a Med Cruise so life was good. I met my "first" wife at that time. So, Super Tramp sort of bookended our relationship with the last of her and I watching one of their last concerts of their last tour in their original iteration in the US... So, good times all round as she's ong gone (Frankly it was a two way street) and I'm still chugging along at 69 years old. And still Enjoying Super Tramp. That concert was in the top three of my life also. Great mid 80s.
OK kids I had one of the original hand held computer games just called football (American) so at 3:27 into the video (logical song) there is this sound effect and that was the sound the game made when you scored a touchdown. I only know because I had the game at the time this was released. It was just an interesting factoid... Enjoy and we did have the best music and I've had many younger people say so...

In 1976, I was 20. I witnessed a large portion of my graduating class die from the popular causes of that time. Later on I began to believe that I was somehow "immortal". Growing up Catholic. Knowing that "God has a plan for all of us". I managed to live this long. But have yet to receive a message from God regarding the "plan".
