No 15 in the metric box wrenches is a deal breaker.
Skips are a sin.
They’re so sexy though it might be worth it still
@@EvilTwinRC51 no 18mm is nuts too like i swear most brake bracket bolts are 18mm or 21mm wouldve been nice to have the 18mm wrench to check some of those tight to reach ones
I went out and (over some time) purchased older Made in the USA V series wrenches (metric and SAE) with no skips. All of them in fantastic condition. Some at flea markets, others at estate sales, and filled in some off of Ebay. They look fantastic and are absolutely fantastic (nice precise fit). Wouldn't trade them for the world.
I've always bought vintage craftsman off eBay.
if you want to do a true comparison in size between V series metric/SAE wrenches, compare the metric 19mm and the SAE 3/4 as they are the same bolt head size....15/16 is three wrench sizes up from 3/4 or 19mm (3/4-->13/16-->7/8-->15/16)..so it would be expected to be much larger in size. 15/16 is actually equivalent to a 24mm metric size.
The skips are because they are rebranded facom and usag tools. Mainly focus on EU and japanese cars. The v wrenches(facom 440 or usag 285) are short pattern wrenches. If ya want a long pattern, they offer (stanley B&D) the 440XL or Sidchrome 440. You already own the Mac version (precision torque). The 440xl skip sizes so stick to Mac or sidchrome they both have the full range. All those are excellent quality, higher than what crap usa made raised panel wrench craftsman made back in the day. The quality is also more consistent as people forget craftsman wasn't a manufacturer, just a name from a retailer(same as HF). Stanley black and Decker, on the other hand, does manufacture stuff and has more control over the quality. They also can pull from their EU brands like facom, which they already do for Mac, a very good decision, in my opinion. Would have love more usa made stuff, but the margins aren't there for sustainability.
Definitely interested in the double box if it didn't skip so much..picked up the metric set of the facom style , there short but I don't mind..
I would like to see some SAEs
They have the sae too they are all on sale the lowes website and amazon
These sets aren't supposed to be your final collection of tools. They're starter sets. You fill in the gaps as you age.
I have to agree with the others. The only reason im not buying is because of the skips. That means ill have to supplement with a different brand. I might as well buy their set with no skips.
Awesome review. Those extra long wrenches with the 6 point offset and the flex head 12 point are pretty sweet. These are Japan standard sizes which skips the 9,11,15,16, and 18. Perfect for Toyotas.
Ya i work at a Toyota dealership so they work out perfectly for me, thanks for watching!
I'd like a set of those double box wrenches. Might get those until i can afford a set of macs R.B.R.T wrenches.
You can get the rbrt wrenches under facom 441xl, usag 285x, and Craftsman overdrive. The overdrive will be a different wrench with the rbrt design.
Do they even sell v series in stores I’ve never seen them
I don’t like skips, that alone will turn me off from buying
I’m done with Craftsman, I moved on to Milwaukee and Mac Tools.
Good review
Dave 😀
Thank u both for watching!
Are you an authority on tools?
From poster child for quality, to useless Chinese crap.
Only the impact sockets are China. The rest is Taiwan.
@@andrestnt not much of a difference
@bombsaway6340 lots in difference in quality. Taiwan tools are great quality and price, on par with some USA/German/japanese tools. China, for the most part, makes average tools with the occasional stinker. Being blind is a choice. This isn't the 1970s, 80s, or 90s. Quality has gone up, and the true garbage comes from India or Vietnam now. Maybe if we paid what a usa made tool cost, stanley would have a bigger incentive to make craftsman tools here. But the proof is in the sales, most buy cheap Chinese crap including you. Not just tools, by the way. I personally would rather support a usa own company with factories here, then a foreign own company, that most revenue goes to China(Milwaukee). Stanley does manufacture here in the US, from proto, mac, dewalt, and some craftsman. I think a little slack is warranted. They did spend million's building and staffing a mechanics tools plant in TX. Ultimately, it failed for many reasons, but they 100% tried.
@@andrestnt sure hope so, bought several tools made there.
Taiwanese tools are not top tier premium...they are surpassing even the stuff coming out of Germany now...Back in the 70's/80's made in Taiwan and Japan for tools meant soft malleable junk...not any more...Japanese and Taiwanese factories produce some of the highest quality products currently manufactured on the planet...mainland China is beginning to catch up as well.
