Really nice to see the person directing the different cameras who knows what they are doing and can follow a musical score. One of the best videos that actually shows where the important action is happening in the orchestra, WHEN it is happening. Very rare in US symphony televised broadcasts. Rousing performance as well.
Sadly the sound and picture are not aligned well; sound is very behind the players. I thought Maestro Elder was just being "ahead" but it was way more than that. And yes, it is quite dull, it didn't transfer so well.
Mark Elder managed to remove all the passion, tension, rebel energy and wild humor from this incredible overture, to make it sound like a nicely polished clockwork lullaby. I wonder whether he is a conductor or an anaesthesiologist? Anyway, for Berlioz' sake, I suggest a collective of music lovers request a restraining order from a competent court, perpetually forbidding Mark Elder to get anywhere near any of the composer's scores.
In the presence of the Lord I am speechless
"Triumph" is so well conveyed by the orchestra. Sir Mark does an excellent job .

The music is perfectly aligned throughout the video. Look at 5:10 for example. It's only the conductor who's in fact waaay ahead.
Disappointingly dull and quiet sound quality. Super performance!
