I am proud to say that during my younger years of being musician, trumpet player, we play this piece of music, but because so much so the limitation of getting old preventing me to do it anymore, the only thing to do continue the pleasure of listening, all of OVERTURE, 1812, ZAMPA, to name a few
I played 4th chair, second violin in 1958 at the Tri-County Orchestra in southern California. The music and the name Rosamunde is ever present in my mind.
I played this on clarinet in high school 20 years ago and I have to come back and listen to it a couple times a year, my face is always covered in tears by the end. I can't believe music has that effect on the brain
This music was first heard on August 19, 1820, as part of his incidental musical to a play called “Die Zauberharfe” The Magic Harp. Later, it was played as an overture to the play “Rosamunde.”
No dispute that this is Ricardo Muti, but is it really the Vienna Philharmonic? I don't think so. The French horns are very distinctive in that orchestra. Below the description it says Munich Festival Orchestra. That sounds right.
The timbres of the VPO in this orchestra are amazing. Our high school orchestra performed this overture in March of 1977, when I was a senior, and I have loved it ever since. As a contrabassist, I found the passage began at 03:39 at real challenge. Hoomeyow!!
What a great creator of melodies Schubert was; how a wonder and well done music; ¿ has really the humanity evolute to best forms? or ¿ is an involution what that we lived today?
To David Hooke: Yes I agree with you, but these days the Conductor has to be able to exercise his "artistic expression" instead of playing a great composer the way he wrote his music! A shame really isn't it?
SO IT WOULD NICE TO HEAR TO HEAR SOME MORE OF THIS OPERA. I THINK BOSKOVSKY PLAYS ANOTHER OVERTURE IN WHAT IS THE ONLY COMPLETE RECORDING OF THE INCIDENTAL MUSIC.
it's an Overture, so the first three minutes are filler, scene setting as people arrive late for the performance. I like it, but then I'm probably more than twice your age and find that ponderousness interesting in its own way.
my mum named me after this piece of music because my granddad used to play this when he was happy.
That's pretty adorable! My parents named my younger sister Nancy after Sinatra's "Nancy With the Laughing Face", popular at the time.
@Jacob Greene its rosamund lol

Very important, very useful comment. It proves your ample and deep knowledge of Schubert's music.
So beautiful. I play this song with my orchestra

youre too old to have that pfp.
I played it in the Maryland Youth Symphony in 1966. Love Schubert ever since.
This beautiful overture is full of magnificent themes, the mark of the great composer that Schubert was. One of my favorite pieces of music.
If you love melodies, then you must love his Ninth Symphony.
I played this on clarinet in high school 20 years ago and I have to come back and listen to it a couple times a year, my face is always covered in tears by the end. I can't believe music has that effect on the brain

I played this last summer, I might never have been so excited! There's something about it that gives me so much energy.

Come rendere noiossissimo e stucchevole uno pei più bei pezzi.Come as usual, Muti riduce tutto ai suo minimo sentire.vabbè..
Such a vergiving tune....
Interesting piece
3:40
It goes into warp- drive
From 3:14 to the end is my favorite part!!!
Does anybody know that Rosamunde backwards is edunmasor? It's eurt...uh...sorry...true.
Actually, it's ton .. uh .. sorry ... not.
You've got that slightly wrong Jonathan.

Yes. Boskovsy (Complete Incidental Music) plays the Overture to "Alfonso and Estrella". Perhaps another opera we should hear more of.
