Murray Gold is a genius. His music is always stunning, but "The Shepherd boy", also known as "Breaking the wall", thanks to Oswin Pond, also known as "There are three of us" in "The day of the Doctor",is for me the best, and sums up Peter's performance.

The episode has its big faults, making the first Doctor seem like a typical 60’s sexist old bloke when he never was. A rather pointless and dissatisfying story, and the standard “the companion isn’t actually dead!” Problem that Moffat always had. But regardless of all that, it’s easily my favourite Xmas Special. Basically for the final 15 minutes alone.
You can tell this is a shit reaction and a fake fan when they skip previously and the first doctor's regeneration, disrespecting the first doctor yet reaction and crying to a vision of Clara.
A human miracle indeed. Most of us don't really want to kill each other, not instinctively. Left to our own devices we'd rather sing songs, share food, swap jokes, play football. We'd all do well to listen less to those that would have us believe otherwise.
“I’m not ready to let him go.” Teared up a bit with that particular choice of words. I laughed, got angry, cried my eyes out, and basically felt every other emotion on the spectrum with 12. He’s my Doctor and it’ll take a hell of a lot for someone to change that. He was a hell of a bird that I still haven’t managed to let go of, but this show is about change so on to the next. Sending many hugs and good vibes your way Shayla!
Yep. Me when 9, 10 & 11 are upset: *various intensities of sympathetic "aww"* Me when 12 is upset: "Sod 'em, they'll be fine! There's glass stopping me from hugging Peter, and someone needs to do something about it RIGHT NOW!"
Never be cruel or cowardly, and never ever eat pears! This show is brilliant, but it will rip your heart out. Thank you Peter Capaldi! Great reaction as always. 👍👍
And the shepherd's boy says: “Doctor... I let you go.” P.S. The showrunners really have a way with breaking our hearts with companions, don’t they? First Rose, then Amy, then Clara... evil little Daleks
And now I remember Shayla's comments after watching the last Christmas about feeling so sorry and sad for future Shayla when 12 regenerates and about realising that she's in love with both 12 and Clara that manifested very clearly very in this reaction.
Nothing will ever top Matt Smith's farewell. "I will not forget one line of this. Not one day, I swear. I will always remember when the Doctor was me." His whole last soliloquy just wrecked me.
I loved how they revealed Whitaker. When a new Doctor comes in, you usually see his face immediately. But this was cool! They teased you for about thirty seconds with camera trickery before the audience can see her face. It was beautifully done. Easily my favorite Doctor reveal.
I've been watching since the 80s. Grew up with McCoy and repeats of Pertwee, both Bakers and Davison. Eccleston won my heart in 2005 and I'm still gutted he only had 1 season. I loved David and I loved Matt - but then Peter Capaldi came along and became my absolute favourite Doctor of them all. I could have watched a decade of seasons of him as 12....but just like that he was gone
I started watching with Pertwee, and I (almost) agree with you. Tom still shades it for the sheer number of absolute classic stories that he had, but Capaldi is right up there with him, and is arguably the better actor. Mind you, I love all the Doctors in their own ways.
This was a great episode and send off for Peter and 12. First and last shot of 12 on the show was his eyebrows. Last episode for not just Capaldi and Moffat but also Murray Gold who did the music for all 10 seasons. I think 12 got the biggest character growth of any Doctor. Remember back in 8x02 when he says that Clara cares so he doesn't have to and this episode his last words were to be kind. Fun bit of trivia, the planet they go to in this episode was the planet that Jack mentioned back in Moffat's first episode Empty Child/Doctor Dances. The one with where The Doctor planted a banana grove. Also, the Christmas day armistice was an actual historical event. On to 13.
I was sceptical of Capaldi when he was first announced; I loved him as a very different character in a show called The Thick Of It, but I couldn't quite imagine him as the Doctor. Then it started and it was good, but there was still a disconnect there ... until one day I realised that, somewhere along the line, he had unquestionably become my favourite. I really wish there had been a lot more from him: he deserved it.
Quite fitting that you said at the beginning that you’re not ready to let go, and 12’s last words are “Doctor, I let you go.” 💔 I love this episode for what it is, a fitting farewell to 12, to Murray gold (the composer) and to the Moffat era. But damn it’s a bittersweet one. Them Last 15 minutes are a rough watch! Your reaction to seeing Clara was so real and exactly the same as mine! And that final scene with 12’s speech, I was a sobbing mess throughout. I’m sad you’re caught up with 12, his era is just phenomenal to me and my golden era of the show. I still miss 12 and Clara, 4 years later 😂😂 I hope you enjoy s11! For me personally, its a mixed bag between some very good episode and some very bad!
Welp, the end of an Era...again. It’s painful that it’s ending to my favourite Doctor, but I’ll be watching your reaction regardless. Anyways, I’ll be interested to see how you’ll view Jodie’s tenure as the Doctor (so far).
@@MichaelM28 I did and I enjoyed it as of most parts, it wasn't the best but also it definitely wasn't the worse, I just hope they try and revamp it up more and show what Jodie is truly capable of.
Chibnall's era just hurts me. 13 spat on everything 12 told her to be. Never be cruel. Always be kind. Then she locks a group of baby spiders in a room to die of starvation. That's cruel, that's not kind. The Doctor would find a way to take them to a new planet where they could live, not let them starve to death. I hope 13 gets erased from the canon.
As emotional as this episode is for all whovians. The Human Miracle, where soldiers laid down their rifles and had an unofficial cease fire, To celebrate Christmas and be kind to their fellow humans, chokes me up more than the regeneration.....almost. Would that we could take a lesson from our forefathers and live together despite our differences.
This is one of Doctor Who's most beautiful episodes. There's so much poetry in it! And Capaldi was undeniably the Doctor, which makes his regeneration all the sadder. He's my absolute favourite!
I absolutely love Peter. He is definitely one of my favourite Doctors. I remember when I first started watching him. Matt was my favourite and Peter was so, so different to him. Especially in series 8, he was quite grumpy. I didn't know how I felt about him. However, near the end of series 8 I really started to like him. Then in series 9 he absolutely blew me away. His performance was astounding and he had developed so much. He also became a lot more light hearted which I really liked. He changed from being the grumpy old man to being sweet, loving and kind. Him and Clara were amazing together and their chemistry was phenomenal. Clara hasn't always been my favourite but when she's is with 12 they are just fantastic. Also, another thing is that Peter Capaldi=King of Speeches👑 His acting when giving speeches is like nothing I can explain. It's just absolutely amazing. I also loved him and River together😢Then in series 10, I adored him. He was so good. His performance got better and better and better. Also, I loved his relationship with Bill. It felt... really natural and it felt like he really cared for her even though she may not have had the background that Clara did. I loved him and Bill and Nardole. Also, I really want to mention him and Missy. I loved them two so much. I really wanted Missy to join him and I wanted them to become friends again. She changed, but the Doctor never got to see that... that's all I wanted... i just wanted the Doctor to know that she had changed. Also Michelle Gomez, the actress who plays Missy is phenomenal and she is by far my favourite incarnation of the Master. In these last few episodes Peter's performance is astounding. I actually just watched this episode so that I could watch this reaction and I've already cried a lot... and I'm ready to cry even more. I really miss him. "Laugh hard, Run fast, Be kind... Doctor, I let you go"😭😭😭
Capaldi's first episode: "I don't think I'm a hugging person now." Capaldi's last episode: "Cuddles." My favorite Doctor ever. LOVED him from the start. This last episode the first half doesn't do it for me, but that last half is pure gold. For me, I've re-watched the whole scene with The Doctor, Bill and Nardole more times than I can count. Being a bit older I've lost family and friends, which happens to us all as we get older, and had periods in my life where it was just me on account of that. That part (though cut from here) where he says "A life this long, do you know what it is? It's a battle field like this one. And it's empty. Because everyone else has fallen." And just the look of truth he has on his face for a brief moment is so genuine and respectful to everyone who's ever been there that he forever won me over as the best Doctor. He could be silly and angry and goofy but he could get REAL better than them all. Amazing acting range.
And thus ends the time of my favorite Doctor. Your reaction was as emotional and relatable as I expected, Shayla. You truly echoed what we Twelfth Doctor fans felt when he left. Thank you for all your work and for sharing your love of the show with us. Onwards to Series 11! :D
As of my posting, I'm 57 years old and my first Doctor was Tom Baker so I've been through many regenerations. I know your feelings about this because I've felt it with each one. You first dislike the new actor until they grow on you and you find somewhere in their performance a bit or two of the previous Doctors. It is a circle we've all gone through for each regeneration. It will hurt each time but know that each actor has loved playing the part.
yep, this regeneration hit me so hard and I totally wasn't expecting it. I mean I cry every regeneration but with Capaldi... it was like I didn't recognize how much I adored him until it was too late. I started crying during the Christmas armistice scene and didn't stop till the very end. Even after it was over I was left over dramatically sobbing. Clara's return was particularly tearjerking as she is one of my all-time favorite companions (ironic since I used to really dislike her) and her relationship with 12 is unmatchable. And of course Capaldi's amazing pre regeneration speech is beautiful and the perfect end to his run. His final words "Doctor, I let you go" are the most fitting of any regeneration EVER! completely unforgettable and incredibly true to how I feel about his doctor. Overall 12 is my second favorite new who doctor and I'm glad to see he left an impact on you as well. love the reaction Shayla, keep doing what you do :)
And for those who didn't know that ring was a prop designed to hide Peter's actual wedding ring. It was one of the requirements to be the Doctor that he be allowed to wear his ring at all times.
I kind of love the fact that the last conversation 12 has is with the TARDIS. The TARDIS won't let him die. It knows how much more he has to do, and so it compels him to keep ongoing. Even if it kills this incarnation of him. They're in it together, just like they always have been!
And now you have come all this way and found love for Capaldi as I think he is the best Doctor. All his memories restored. Shoes left too big for anyone to follow in. And now his story ends. 💕
As soon as Bill said “I’ll show you how important memories are” I knew knew KNEW what was about to happen. I pretty much lost it. Couldn’t stop crying!!!
It was emotionally exhausting just to watch your reaction here, so I hope you were okay afterwards. It was a very heartwarming reaction; from the moment the first Doctor started to regenerate, it was very touching. We know how much you loved Clara, so that was a moment everyone was looking forward to. You certainly delivered. Even though we still have season 11 to go and I'll obviously still watch all your reactions, this is still the end of an era. Maybe I'm getting a bit sentimental but thank you for taking us on your journey with you. :) Loved every minute of it, the happiness and the sadness. You get invested like nobody else and seeing the effect this era had on you tugged at my heartstrings more than once. Your reactions are the best, Shayla.
So happy Peter made that much of an impact on you, one of the best actors to play the doctor and one of the most interesting arcs in his run. Plus that man can give a speech!!!!!! Capaldi speech episode please, there are tons of super cuts of the man talking that will cut you in two but would be a joy to have you share with us guys
This is also Murray Gold's last episode as composer, so the soundtrack of the episode is like a greatest-hits reel from the last decade of Doctor Who. It's honestly beautiful.
Your reaction to Clara was everything I needed and more. Also please react to the best Twelve/Clara tributes (we could suggest you which ones) cause they are proper masterpieces and you totally deserve to watch them

i seriously felt your pain in this one. clara turning up absolutely ruined me. i’m so so happy they had 12 go with his memories of her. it was painful but we needed it, steven was kind for giving us that 😂 it’s been well over a year since this special and i still miss 12 SO badly. peter was (and as a person still is) *the* doctor. he truly embodied and developed the doctor with so much love. god it’s literally painful not having him on the show anymore
And once again, "I don't think I'm a hugging person anymore." echoes forward as the Doctor reaches around and embraces Nardole and then he and Bill disappear, leaving Peter holding air... Also, Bill saying the Doctor doesn't see her echoes back to what he said to Clara after his regeneration. This man had a wonderful arc.
I've been excited to see this for so long. I don't anticipate anyone's uploads as much as yours, Shayla. There's something so good about your reactions but I can't place it. They're very authentic.
A regular cliffhanger ending just doesn't cut it when you're trying to follow up something as cool as the Twelfth Doctor - you need a cliff-falling-off ending to even stand a chance...
@8:01 "Well, that escalated quickly." Lol. These last two episodes were really strongly geared toward wrapping up all of the reboot of the series for a batch of new writers and crew for Jody.
I waited 6 months to finally watch Capaldi's final season. I even knew Clara was gonna appear for a scene.. but still, I couldn't help but tear up in that moment. The end of an era, good bye to the best actor that played the Doctor. You will be missed.
Hands down the best regeneration scene. Capaldi throws his best at us, even though the shooting for this was a rushed, last minute thing. When the music soars, and he says his last lines... It's something you never forget.
It's so many years later and watching the clips with you resonated very strongly, I particularly appreciated just sitting with that sadness towards the end, it really brought back my feelings at the time. It was a very warming and welcome experience: thank you for sharing, I deeply appreciated it. Warmest regards, Ian.
This is one of my favorite regeneration episodes! David Bradley is perfect as the First Doctor, the reveal of the Brig's grandfather was great, The Doctor getting his memories of Clara back warms my heart, and 12's final speech is absolutely brilliant.
1. David Bradley was terrible as the First Doctor. You've clearly never seen any of William Hartnell if you thought Bradley's laughably wooden performance was good. 2. Brigadier's great uncle not grandfather. His grandfather is already an established character in the comics
@@MichaelM28 I've actually seen most of Classic Who (with the exception of some missing episodes) and I thought Bradley was great as the First Doctor. As far as the Brig's family member goes I had read that Mark Gatis had confirmed that he was his grandfather, but a mistake could have been made.
Losing the Twelfth Doctor was hard because we felt like we grew up with him, he started out all rough and angry and confused about who he was, and we watched Clara raise him and he became the lovable silly Doctor we always knew he was inside, and then he was gone.
Have to make a shout out to Steven Moffat as well being his last episode as show runner. In my opinion he was an amazing show runner. He had his moments where I didn’t agree with decisions he took but for the most part it was all great material, not to mention the perfection that the 50th anniversary turned out to be. He was ambitious and took the show places where it has never went before, that’s what I think the current show runner is missing among some other things but this isn’t about Chris Chibnall. Love him or hate him, Steven Moffat and Matt Smith took the show global and gave it the attention that it deserves and with that the budget it deserves. He will be missed for sure and definitely made an impact on the show.
**Doctor falls down and will surely die of fall damage** JustSoShayla:I DON'T CARE! **When the doctor regenerates into the 14th doctor** JustSoShayla: *cries*
I'm actively recommending you to my friends now because you've got that raw, genuine emotional reaction, be it when you're happy and excited or when you're crying your eyes out.
When I was first watching, right about when the Doctor met up with Rusty, it suddenly struck me that we hadn't gotten a name for "The Captain" and I realized that he was OF COURSE going to be a Lethbridge-Stewart. Along the same line, I felt like an absolute fool when the Captain got dropped off. I remembered the year when he was picked up from and I put 7 and 9 together, and was just sitting and waiting for the Christmas carols to start (I think I was even convinced that it would start with Silent Night). All that to say that even as "paint by numbers" as Steven Moffat went on the end of the story, he nailed it so hard it hurt. A lot. In the best way.
I started watching Doctor Who, when Tom Baker was the Doctor; so Tom will always hold that special place in my heart as my 1st favorite Doctor. Peter C. is my very close 2nd Doctor, followed by a very close 3rd with Matt. Those are my top 3.
Nice, those are my top, in that order. Pertwee is just behind them at #4, and those are probably my favorite. I would say Tennant is just behind them, and then some combination of Davison, Eccleston, and Troughton.
Sorry for the pain Shayla, looking forward to seeing your overall thoughts on Capaldi, I hadn't decided at the time but seeing his run again via your reactions confirmed to me he was the best doctor. As other people say, make your own opinions on the next series, it has some really high moments, perhaps just doesn't hit the same highs ...... p.s. fun fact, the german soldier in the face off, was Toby Whithouse, writer of A Town Called Mercy, A God Complex and a few others, also the UK show Being Human. He could make a good future show runner ....
I can't believe that we have already reached this point. I remember anticipating Shayla's reactions throughout the Capaldi's era to see if 12 becoming your Doctor/at least 1 of your most favourite ones will pour down on her like gentle raindrops as it did with so many of us.

But regardless of all that, it’s easily my favourite Xmas Special. Basically for the final 15 minutes alone.
"Letting go of The Doctor is so, so hard"... You don't have to tell us😭
Sometimes I actually worry about Shayla cause she cares so much that it looks like this stuff just straight wrecks her.
@@ArlanKels I can't act as if I don't relate. I was a sobbing mess at the end of The Doctor Falls and Twice Upon a Time
@@Omnimegas same here😭😭😭
This one's bittersweet cus it's amazing but kills me, Capaldi will always be my doctor
You can tell this is a shit reaction and a fake fan when they skip previously and the first doctor's regeneration, disrespecting the first doctor yet reaction and crying to a vision of Clara.
@@chriszone50 she watched the full thing but reactors have to edit it down, she hasn't seen classic btw
I love the use of Christmas armastise, it's like my favourite Christmas story and it's so incredible because it's true. It's so amazing.
'That moment when you want to reach into the screen and give someone a hug'
Yep.
Me when 9, 10 & 11 are upset: *various intensities of sympathetic "aww"*
Me when 12 is upset: "Sod 'em, they'll be fine! There's glass stopping me from hugging Peter, and someone needs to do something about it RIGHT NOW!"
"Letting go of the Doctor is so hard..."
Truer words have never been spoken
Never be cruel or cowardly, and never ever eat pears! This show is brilliant, but it will rip your heart out. Thank you Peter Capaldi! Great reaction as always. 👍👍
And the shepherd's boy says:
“Doctor... I let you go.”
P.S. The showrunners really have a way with breaking our hearts with companions, don’t they? First Rose, then Amy, then Clara... evil little Daleks
Even Yaz's exit managed to cause some emotions.
And now I remember Shayla's comments after watching the last Christmas about feeling so sorry and sad for future Shayla when 12 regenerates and about realising that she's in love with both 12 and Clara that manifested very clearly very in this reaction.
Everything ends.....
But everything begins again too.
Be Happy.
-My Doctor
The Return of Doctor Mysterio is such an underrated episode!
Capaldi had the best quotes throughout the Whoverse.
Doctor I Let You Go, my favourite final line of any doctor
Seriously felt like it was Peter saying that to the role he always dreamed of having... passing it on to future actors...
Nothing will ever top Matt Smith's farewell. "I will not forget one line of this. Not one day, I swear. I will always remember when the Doctor was me." His whole last soliloquy just wrecked me.
I let the show go after this episode.
Moffat is a master of the regeneration speech. The care and thought that goes into his regeneration speeches is phenomenal.
@@pdegan2814 i like "doctor, i let you go " and "i don't want to go" more
I loved how they revealed Whitaker. When a new Doctor comes in, you usually see his face immediately. But this was cool! They teased you for about thirty seconds with camera trickery before the audience can see her face. It was beautifully done. Easily my favorite Doctor reveal.
What can I say? Twelve is my Doctor, and I miss him very much. And Peter Capaldi is my favorite actor and an amazing human being.
Quite fitting that you said at the beginning that you’re not ready to let go, and 12’s last words are “Doctor, I let you go.” 💔
I love this episode for what it is, a fitting farewell to 12, to Murray gold (the composer) and to the Moffat era. But damn it’s a bittersweet one. Them
Last 15 minutes are a rough watch!
Your reaction to seeing Clara was so real and exactly the same as mine! And that final scene with 12’s speech, I was a sobbing mess throughout. I’m sad you’re caught up with 12, his era is just phenomenal to me and my golden era of the show. I still miss 12 and Clara, 4 years later 😂😂
I hope you enjoy s11!
She won't be able to finish it. Who can?
Doctor, I let you go"😭😭😭
Peter's speech at the end is the best of them all...
Capaldi's first episode: "I don't think I'm a hugging person now."
Capaldi's last episode: "Cuddles."
My favorite Doctor ever.
aleztfu You mean Season 1 of Doctor Poo?
@@OkeyVision So clever and edgy.
As the Fifth once said, "It feels different this time."
I have a feeling that it will be relief more than hurt.
yep, this regeneration hit me so hard and I totally wasn't expecting it.
My condolences for your loss of 12.
If it is any consolation, it wasn't easy for any of us either.
Lovely episode though isn't it.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. They have always made my day when I get to read them.
@@JustSoShayla Aw, you're welcome. That's so wonderful to know. Thank you!
Tennant, Capaldi and Baker were my favorite doctors.
The bit about Nardole having invisible hair was originally a joke that Steven Moffat on the TH-cam after show at the start of the season.
That was Peter Capaldi's actual ring that he wore throughout his entire tenure as the Doctor. It was his idea for that to be part of his character

ChanCeNecK YES! "Pulse" is a pure work of art if you ask me, I never get tired of watching it!
i seriously felt your pain in this one. clara turning up absolutely ruined me. i’m so so happy they had 12 go with his memories of her. it was painful but we needed it, steven was kind for giving us that 😂 it’s been well over a year since this special and i still miss 12 SO badly. peter was (and as a person still is) *the* doctor. he truly embodied and developed the doctor with so much love. god it’s literally painful not having him on the show anymore
“Not ready to let go” wow she foreshadowed some of Capaldis last words
In tears watching. My Doctor. Thank you for reacting.
So very true!
A regular cliffhanger ending just doesn't cut it when you're trying to follow up something as cool as the Twelfth Doctor - you need a cliff-falling-off ending to even stand a chance...
I see what you did there 👌
"be kind"
oh Peter... you will always be my Doctor
From "Do you happen to know how to fly this thing" to "Doctor, I let you go" 12 is the best.
From "kidneys! I don't like the color!"

I screamed at the tv, “Then why are you leaving!” Hugs to you Shayla across space and time.
You don't care right now, and after watching her series, you never will again.
Eleven was The Doctor I wanted to be, Twelve was The Doctor I wanted to travel with.
I wasn't ready to say goodbye to Peter Capaldi either. He is my favourite. He made a mighty fine Doctor and he will always be my favourite.
"Every christmas is last christmas and it's always sad."
I will always remember when The Doctor was Capaldi, he was my Doctor and I didn't want him to go!
Peter : yes i know theyll get it all wrong without me.
Omg how right he was.
“I don’t care right now”
I’ve been like that ever since 😩
Losing the Twelfth Doctor was hard because we felt like we grew up with him, he started out all rough and angry and confused about who he was, and we watched Clara raise him and he became the lovable silly Doctor we always knew he was inside, and then he was gone.
**Doctor falls down and will surely die of fall damage**
JustSoShayla:I DON'T CARE!

This is one of my favorie Who specials. I was happy to see Clara come back to say goodbye. Reminded me of when Amy came back to say goodbye to 11
I'm actively recommending you to my friends now because you've got that raw, genuine emotional reaction, be it when you're happy and excited or when you're crying your eyes out.
I still miss capaldi, and I will for a while, glad that you enjoyed him as much as myself👍🙂
That line one more lifetime won't kill anyone, except me gets to me everytime
the twelth doctor is and always will be my doctor!
"You don't expect a sunset to admire you back"
Goodbye, Doctor. What a run we've had. I look forward to meeting you. The long way 'round
This was beautiful. Hopefully he returns with Matt, David and more for the 60th if there is one.
Translation of the stuff the German soldier said: "Just leave me here. I don't want to kill you." And when they return: "This is crazy!"
Pretty much my view, but Tom _just_ shades it. My top 5 in order: Tom; Capaldi; Troughton; Smith; Pertwee
1: “Why am I wearing these?”
12: “Because I love it! Never take them off.”
1: “What is browser history?”
12: Snatches them off.
Another fantastic reaction as always lots of us were sad when Peter left he really grew into the role and became an exceptional Doctor
"Fuck off".
I literally laughed out loud.
This episode has so many feels!
They based that last scene on the battlefield after real events. Christmas Eve 1914, the famous truce on Christmas on some lines of the western front.
I'm so glad you enjoyed Twelve, but you always knew they were going to RIP out your heart at the end.
Very good to share a feeling with someone. I could not move on after Capaldi. I hope to see the new phase with you.
This reaction was so relatable omg
I love the fact you pretty much have the same reaction to a regeneration. As soon as a new doctor arrives you say "I don't care about you right now" 😂 love it. Cannot wait for your reaction to the next series ☺
My heart ached when I saw this video because I knew how you'd react, Peter was a brilliant doctor.
I love Peter smile. It's beautiful and real.
"I've got a few things to say to you. Basic stuff first. Never be cruel, never be cowardly. And never ever eat pears! Remember - hate is always foolish, love is always wise. Always try to be nice but never fail to be kind...Laugh hard, run fast, be kind."
I think those are words we can all live by
I will skip the pears thing, though...
😂
