- The Nicholas Tse Analysis is finally here! Raised in Canada and Hong Kong, Nicholas has spent a lot of his life speaking English. Today, I analyze a portion of the talk he gave at "Talks at Google" at Google Hong Kong. Let's look at his word choice, his grammar, pronunciation, etc. How good is the singer, actor, celebrity chef, entrepreneur's English? What do you think? How good is his English? I have been following your videos lately, and it's fascinating to see how you speak both chinese and english with native accents. I always wanted to look for a channel to pick up more advanced English but I don't know where to. It would be great if you have a series for it, and would probably widen your target audience too. Anyway, keep the videos coming!

Hey Chris, thank u very much for your videos, it's very helpful to learn some very useful native expressions through your analyse; but I've noticed that for most Chinese students learning English, the biggest challenge is the fear of making mistakes while speaking which affects the confidence and fluency a lot, as they try very hard to make everything right and neglect the purpose of speaking English is to communicate. As there are thousands of Chinese followers of your channels, I wish you could also encourage them to express first and to be correct and native-like later. Haven't gone through all of vids, if you already had the point I made, ignore me, All respect !

He speaks with a heavy Manchu accent with all those 'er' sound that is typical of northeast China where Manchuria was.
His Mandarin is native level and his pronunciation is even better than mine.

the phrase "pick up on a language" and "voice out your opinion" are something we learn from school and through the textbook in Hongkong.
Really? "Pick up on” has complete different mean. 'Voice out' is influenced by Chinese, 说出来

Honestly if you keep watching the whole thing though, you can hear a Hong Kong accent pop in and out for certain words / sentences when he starts getting a bit more comfortable during his speech. But no doubt still great English.

Surely he is a native speaker. He was a Canadian immigrant. Went to high School there
He grew up in English speaking part of Canada, so basically he's a native English speaker. Then speaking of his grammatical mistakes, well, native speakers also always make mistakes. For instance, a lot of native English speakers use the verb "to lay", when it actually needs to be "to lie". Like, "I'm gonna lay down." Or "I'm staying at home," but it should be "I'm staying home," etc.
