Campsite Review: South Gate (Maqwee) Camp - Moremi Game Reserve (Travel in Botswana)

Camping in Botswana
We head toward the Okavango Delta through Moremi Game Reserve, driving from the Savuti Marsh area in Chobe, and opt for a quick stay at South Gate Camp (though we actually enter via North Gate and Khwai). The quick stay doesn't quite end up being all that brief, due to some battery issues (check out episode 4 of the #BBB). We're in luck as we're in campsite 8. Though it doesn't have a braai and much shade, it is quite private and secluded, compared to the sites right around the ablutions. As we have our own braai, we're not to bothered about that missing amenity. All the other sites have braais, though. The lack of shade is not that great, but only because we end up standing in the baking heat for a long time, trying to get the Wild Dog going again.
We do have one animal incursion in the middle of the night. A honey badger that's not at all deterred by the garbage bin that is off the ground and swings. Nothing can stop a determined honey badger, it seems.
The camp features great ablutions, actual hot water from solar geysers, and a fire pit. Some sites have picnic tables, and great shade, but not all. Almost every site has a braai stand. This too is unfenced, as is the case with most parks in Botswana. It's mostly a transit site, for people moving deeper into Moremi and on to the Okavango.
