Not my two favorite movies in the thumbnail, Jin Roh and Millennium actress are two films I've been screaming about for years thank you SO SO much for spreading their awareness ❤ To add another recommendation. Redline is one of the most impressive animations I've ever seen. I think it's genuinely one of the most impressive.
I watched Bone Tomahawk the other week and I definitely share the same opinions as you on it. I think histHORRORcal fiction is one of my favorite genres because you have the fun of a period piece combined with something spooky. In a similar vein, I recently watched The Sudbury Devil (which I later found out was from the Atun-Shei guy here on TH-cam) that was a decent watch. Totally recommend if anyone is looking to scratch that itch
I've got to check out Millenium Actress and All That Jazz. Acting and theater is such a fascinating art form and dissecting actor characters is such a good subject to talk about with people. Istg your videos feel like conversations I've had about some really deep shit with close friends. They're a very comforting thing for me. And thanks for the movie recommendations. Now I'll recommend you something: if you like old computers, loose narratives, uncanny and weird characters, and world design that feels like something from a drug trip, I cannot recommend ENA enough. It's right here on TH-cam. Only four episodes and less than an hour long. But that series has legitimately changed how I manage my mental health problems and how I cope with things. For the better. ENA is a very mentally broken character who tries to better herself and it's so fascinating to watch her go from the auction to finally getting the therapy she needed in the latest episode. It's a very good series and I would love to hear you talk about it along with other indie animations here on TH-cam.
If you’ve never seen run Lola run, it’s an absolute must watch. It’s is 60 minutes of some of the most perfectly paced, fun, and tense films that makes some incredibly brave directorial choices
Seconding this. It's such a good film, and I love the themes (I interpreted) it has about the interconnectedness of strangers affecting each other's lives. The editing style (both structural macro editing and shot-by-shot micro editing) is also so interesting to me.
Omg, thank you for talking about Millennium Actress, Le Samourai, and Play Time. Le Samourai is my favourite Alain Delon film, he's such a smooth operator in that story. As a recommendation, I'd like to pose my two all-time favourite films: The Beatles Yellow Submarine and Watership Down. Both are animated films, with very different tones.
I’m so gratified that you have ended up watching Millennium Actress! It’s one of my favorite anime movies (and that’s a stacked list), and I’m glad I am hopefully one of the many people whose recommendation led you to watch/rewatch it. Just a beautiful movie with such excellent characterization and cinematography. In terms of further recommendations, I’ll pick something live-action that I wasn’t expecting to even enjoy, but walked away absolutely loving: In Bruge. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson put on a paired performance that I still believe is unmatched, even in their more recent The Banshees of Inisherin, and the ensemble cast absolutely pops off, particularly Ralph Fiennes who steals the spotlight every time he’s on screen. It’s darkly hilarious and powerful in equal measure, and I loved the whole experience.
Really hoping you continue doing these monthly recommendations. Your brief insights to films you don’t want to devote an entire deep-dive video to are always very appreciated. Personally, I would recommend Lilting (2014) and Mass (2021) as two modern masterpieces that are criminally obscure. They both tackle the concept of grief in some of the most complex and intimate ways imaginable. Absolutely heartbreaking, emotionally moving cinema imo.
this finally convinced me to watch Night of the Hunter after delaying watching it for so long. So effing great. A french animated comedy that I'd recommend for you to watch is Ernest and Celestine. Guaranteed to put a massive smile on your face!
For history and stories related to production I think REDLINE is definitely worth looking into and talking about! And completely different a movie called blue giant. Both animated. Both gorgeous (redline is in its own league even today.) and both so fun and impactful to watch.
Sadly I don’t watch many movies, so I can’t really suggest any movies. But I can suggest a show. Person of interest is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen and no one talks about. It is a bit slow in the first season, but it gets real good. It in my top three shows behind Clone wars and Avatar
If I could recommend some movies everybody should see it would be: La haine Harakiri Oldboy Once upon a time in the west Portrait of a lady on fire City of god The killer(john woo) The thing Alien 2001 a space oddesey Fallen angels and chungking express These movies Mean a lot to me and I cant reccomend them enough to people who are just getting into cinema and movies.

Metropolis is one of the best silent films ever made if you haven’t seen that yet. Make sure you watch the 2010 version

Ok back
I would love a Nelson Eddy marathon... because I'm apparently one of the only years to remember him

YES! You have a great taste!!! Thank You Sir!
I would also recommend the Anime film, "Suzume," if you haven't seen it yet. I believe it's Makoto Shinkai's best film since "Your Name."
