Man I love your videos, I want you to have more success, but also I like feeling apart of a tight and small community. As for my favourite movie, I often say My Neighbor Totoro. It really means a ton to me, it shows this really authentic sibling relationship that I desperately wanted when I was growing up. And the magic of the spirits and the cat bus, the story of wanting to help but being unable but still trying anways is something that resonates with me on such a deep level writing it down makes me tear up. Similarly it breaks my heart seeing these characters hurt and grow across the movie. It will always be my favourite among the great works of Studio Ghibli. While writing this comment I find it hard to put into words how much it means to me, and I think in the end I would spend just as long as you just outlining my thoughts about it before coming to a somewhat comprehensible and satisfying answer.
How to Train your Dragon is my favorite movie at the moment, and probably for a while into the future as well. I didn’t have the dvd for the first movie when I was younger, and only had faint memories of the one time I had seen it until I rewatched it a few years ago. Growing up, I did have the dvd for the 2nd movie, and I mostly grew up watching the 2nd movie and the Race to the Edge TV show on Netflix. I think it was the world, the main gang of characters, as well as the many types of dragons that made me love the franchise. I remember the 3rd movie coming out, and seeing it in the theater with my mom. I think watching the ending of that movie was the first time I really felt emotional watching a movie, which I think was what secured the httyd franchise as my absolute favorite franchise. Then I went back and got the dvd of the first movie from the local library, and loved it just as much as the other 2 movies. Over time, I’ve watched them all a bunch, and while 2 and 3 have some flaws, the first movie is just absolutely perfect in my opinion. It’s never not an absolute blast watching it. All 3 of the movies are still some of my favorites of all time, but 1 is my clear favorite movie of my favorite franchise, so I think it’ll stay as my absolute favorite movie of all for a long while
To start, your channel inspired me to created a playlist titled "Dope Video Essays" to which I add every single one of these you post. Your passion and love for these topics is truly infectious and I always enjoy engaging with your well worded rambles. Some might scream recency bias but screw it, Dune (Parts 1 and 2 combined) is my favorite film I've ever seen. I have been kicking myself since 2021 when I saw Part 1 in an empty IMAX theater and had to live with the fact that I had lived nearly 20 years without knowing about the majesty that is Frank Herbert's Dune. After countless re-watches of Part 1, a full read through of the book, and 6 in theater viewings of Part 2 I can safely say that Denis Villneneuve has created a masterpiece of Sci Fi cinema and a true demonstration of the beauty and power that film can display. The cast, the cinematography, the sets both practical and digital, the atmosphere, the sound design, the props, the costumes, THE MUSIC, and the masterful directing all blend together to create not only a great film but a great adaptation to boot. This movie fills a hole that's been empty since I first experienced the majesty of Star Wars with my dad. There's just something about the way Dune feels that makes me fall in love with it. The way the film kinda doesn't hold the audiences hand when it comes to its world building makes this vast and complex world feel so lived in and intimate. I love how it isn't afraid to be complex, this film while being a big blockbuster does not attempt to dumb down the rather harsh messages of the original novel and I respect the hell out if it. I could rant longer but honestly, I might attempt to make a video someday just gushing about this movie, lord knows I will never stop praising it.
I love the goosebumps and tingles I get when I hear about the classic trilogy and even the prequels. As a 2001 baby , the 2000s are defined by Star Wars merch and video games. Lego Star Wars, the force unleashed, those DVDs. Genuine joy in its purest form
We share a birthday ^_^ I hope you have a good one! Thank you for yet another great and thoughtful video, I always find myself looking forward to your next upload.
First off; Happy Birthday. Secondly; I just found your channel today starting with Treasure Planet and have been enjoying much for about 2 hours now. And then this video goes up in that time... I'm here. I'm enjoying the content. And that timing is timing. May thw 4th be with you
Youll know where this is going if you remember my username. :o) My favorite movie is Nimona. I have never felt more seen and heard by a movie. Not much else to say. I bawl every time i watch it. Gonna watch it with my partners next week and cry again. It hurts so much to exist in a world that wants you dead, and its so strong to exist anyway. It means the world to be told you matter, especially by people who used to think you didnt. Resistance is meaningful, and living is resistance in its own way. Never stop living. Make the fascists say it with their whole chest: "go back to the shadows from whence you came". Dont take it though. Fight back. Always fight back. Because we are so much more than that. I love Nimona. So much. Happy birthday! And may the fourth be with you~
Happy May the 4th, Mason, and Happy Birthday. If you don't mind, I would like to share with you my memories of how I got into the Star Wars saga. My first memory of Star Wars was when I was 4 years old in 1994, when I watched my older brother play the original Rebel Assault PC game. I would watch him play the game (primarily the training level, as that was the level I would see him play the most because of how difficult it was to not crash into the walls) and be amazed by the visuals and the music within the game. Shortly after that (still in 94) I would watch the original Star Wars (A New Hope) for the first time, but it wasn't on VHS, nor Laserdisc. Instead, it was on a CED (Capacitance Electronic Disc), which looks like a giant floppy disc (yes, my family still had a CED player at the time and it still worked) and the picture was 4:3. Still, that didn't take away from the sheer awe and epic scope of the film. From the first bit of music in the text crawl, to the award ceremony at the end, I was mesmerized by the experience and my love for the saga was born. I would watch that CED disc multiple times, even flipping the disc every hour to continue the film (that's how the CED was designed). However, that came to an end around early to mid 1995, when the disc would stop working. To say I was sad would be an understatement. I was devastated. I thought that that was the end and I wouldn't be able to watch the film anymore. Little did I realize that 1995 would be quite a year for my love of Star Wars. Not only was that the same year that the toy line would be re-launched (Power Of The Force II), but that was also the year when the infamous "One Last Time" VHS box set (the set that you grew up with) would be released. I vaguely remember my Mom taking me to the mall and surprising me by buying the set. I also remember a huge display that consisted of multiple copies of the box set located in the middle of the mall. Another surprise from buying that box set was not only the fact that the original film was on a VHS tape (didn't have to flip the sides), but also the fact that there were two more films. At that point, I had thought Star Wars consisted of one movie, and didn't know about the sequels. Little did I know that not only would there be two extra films in the original trilogy to watch, but that a new trilogy was on the horizon. That "one last time" box set was great. Not only was I able to watch all three films, but I was also introduced to George Lucas, in the form of the infamous Leonard Maltin interview. Then, two years after that, the special editions of the trilogy were released. Say what you will about the special editions (I actually enjoy quite a bit of elements from them), but it was a real treat to see the films on the big screen for the first time and the trailer for them was excellent. Then, of course, two years after that, the first prequel film was released. A little story about that. After the special editions, I thought that that was it for Star Wars. It wasn't until the following year (late 1998) that I would get my first look into what would be coming soon. My first realization that another film was coming was when I saw the infamous teaser poster for "The Phantom Menace" (Darth Vader's shadow looming behind Anakin Skywalker). That poster blew my mind, and I was hyped. You can also say what you will about the prequels (I love them un-ironically), but it was also quite an experience to see new stories from that galaxy "far, far away." Well, that's pretty much (in a nutshell) my story of how I got into Star Wars. Again, Happy Star Wars day, Mason, and May The Force Be With You.
I have great memories of watching Halloween with my Mam & Dad when I was 4 , it's my favourite film because of that but it's not my favourite horror. Love this trilogy, great video 😊👍🐾💜
When they re-released the star wars trilogy my dad took me to each one. I remember people dressing up and the look on my dads face. He's always been a sophisticated and stoic kind of guy. But I remember seeing those child like eyes he had as we waited in line every time.
Happy Birthday and May the 4th be with you Mason. Thank you for your videos. They're always a blast. As for my favorite film, I can't separate the Star Wars saga (at least the original 6). It is all my favorite movie. My stand-alone fav is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Happy birthday! Thank you for making a POSITIVE Star Wars video on this day. Great content. You’re an amazing writer with your videos. Keep up the great work! As for my favorite movie, I’m going with another amazing second installment of a fantastic trilogy: Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest. This movie is such a fun ride with amazing world building and a deliciously evil villain. Davy Jones, like Vader, is a complex villain and the CGI to this day is amazing. Add in an awesome sea monster and of course the excellent performance of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and I can watch this movie any day!
I just found your channel and have been binging your content. It’s all so well-produced and eloquently written. Hoping to see your channel grow, you deserve it❤️
Happy birthday mate. My birthday is in 2 days and my favorite movie of all time is one I found in 2020 Howls Moving Castle it's world it's characters and themes made me feel alive every time I watch it to this day
Happy belated birthday! Great video as well! I love your stuff on this channel. My favourite movie of all time is the 1967 animated Disney classic, The Jungle Book. It was the first movie I ever saw in theatres when I was a kid, as it had a theatrical re-release in 1990, the year my sister was born. I owned it on VHS, I own it on VHS and DVD now, I had the Disney Sing-Along Songs tape that corresponded with the movie, The Bare Necessities, and I go back and rewatch it every chance I can. I'm also a huge Star Wars fan and I've come to appreciate The Empire Strikes Back more as I've gotten older. As a kid I watched Star Wars and Return of the Jedi the most, because The Empire Strikes Back scared me.
Happy birthday, Mason! Star Wars is my favorite franchise of all time, to the point I’ve read dozens of the novels, and to see you gush about TESB is really fun. Please never stop making Star Wars videos!
It's hard for me to say which Star Wars film is my favorite, but 1000% my favorite scene is in Empire Strikes Back. That damned little green guy who we thought was a goofball and a hack lifted Luke's X-wing out of the swamp and gave him the push he needed to believe fully in the force. So good. What's crazy to me is how polished ESB feels. ANH does have some parts where it's a bit rough around the edges and ESB right out the gate turns everything up to 11. The immersion and gravity of what happens on-screen is just something else. You're no longer watching a movie, you're watching Star Wars. There's no point where you're taken out of that. (also happy belated birthday because I'm bad about getting through stuff on my TH-cam watch list)
Happy birthday and May the 4th be with you! As for gushing about my favorite movie (as requested), I’m tempted to make this all about Monty Python and the Holy Grail or The Princess Bride, two mainstays of my household that remain among my all-time favorites. But I’m going to pick a more personal one that came later: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind isn’t just Jim Carrey’s tour de force (the performances are all next level), an incredible yet grounded sci-fi movie, a brilliantly shot and choreographed piece of cinema, or one of the most relatable romances I’ve ever seen put to film. The process of watching a man and woman grapple with memories of each other, the good and the bad, and find them all the more precious as they’re literally breaking apart around them is something that touched me on a level I’ve never seen in any other film. It’s the kind of experience that left my jaw on the floor and has only grown my appreciation since I first watched it. Every time I see it, new details jump out at me.
Whenever I'm asked what my favorite movie is, my mind usually goes blank. Beacuse I always get the sense that a favorite movie (a favorite anything) isn't just something that is really really liked, but something that fundamentally changes a person, or impacts them in a way that will live rent-free with them for the rest of their life. When I was younger there were certain movies that I watched again, and again, and again, and it's been years since I've watched those films. This video made me think about them again and I honestly can't remember what it was about those movies that made me watch them multiple times, I probably just thought they were cool.
One of my earliest memories is going to see A New Hope in the cinema re-release of 1997! I still remember how scary Darth Vader was in the opening scene. Empire is my favorite Star Wars movie too-- and it is Carrie Fisher's as well!!
Happy Birthday! You’re allowed to celebrate your favorite movie on your birthday. Especially if your birthday is STAR WARS DAY!! Your Maul video I think actually puts in to words the brilliance of bringing Maul back that I’ve never been able to vocalize. And this video just points out all the wonderful things about Empire, which rightfully, is regarded as the best movie in the franchise. While my favorite moment in all of Star Wars is the moment where Yoda lifts the x-wing, my favorite movie is actually The Phantom Menace. The movie came out when I was in Kindergarten. I’m not sure if we saw it in theaters, but I remember the advertising so vividly. And of course, watching the VHS at home was a daily occurrence. There’s definitely a lot of nostalgia tied into TPM for me, but ultimately I love the movie because Padme was my hero growing up. She kicked trade federation butt, stood up for her people on a genuine level, and defied Sidious’ expectations - all while looking absolutely fabulous. Serious props to the costume designers. She was an example of a feminine woman who didn’t sacrifice femininity to reach her goals, and even used it to her advantage. As a little girl and the 30-year-old woman I am today, that still means so much. All the characters are amazing, but she’s such a standout for me and I think she shines the brightest is TPM. The movie is a fun setup for the rest of the trilogy, but also carries the premonition of darkness to come and I just love it. The moment at the end of the credits where you can hear Vader breathe at the end of Anakin’s theme gives me goosebumps every time.
Happy birthday man, Empire is also my favorite movie ever, it´s so cool that you get to share the day with star wars. Love the vids, keep up the good vibes
Happy Birthday Mason! My favorite movie has to be The Return of the King. I cry at multiple points in it every time I watch it. Between the music, the acting, the scenes, just everything about it, I truly think it is one of, if not the, greatest film of all time. I could gush on and on about it all day
When I was about 6 or 7, I was sitting on my grandmothers couch, bored as hell and just wanting to go home. While my grandma was flipping through the channel she paused and put the remote down to watch the re run of a movie. Me with nothing better to do, Watched the masterpiece, Who Framed Roger Rabbit my favorite movie until the end of time.
Happy Birthday and may the fourth be belated with you! My favourite movie for the last 20ish years has been Pulp Fiction. Nothing has topped it since I first saw it in the late 90's (I was only 9 when it came out so I had to wait til my teens to watch it). It made me fall in love with non-linear storytelling and Tarantino films. Other movies that hold a special place in my heart include Willow, Jurassic Park, Mermaids, Mr. Holland's Opus, Heathers, Reality Bites, Ladyhawke, Legend just to name a few. There's wayyyyy too many movies that resonate with me for nostalgia based reasons. I've been rewatching a LOT of 80's high fantasy lately too. :)
🎉❤ Bravo Young Man!! You are a Mic Controller in pure description. MC or Orator? Your Voice control is genuine and calming as a whole. Your vibrato is feeling based in lue of loud. Stay warm and genuine in your content and you will become a master of your craft!!!❤🎉
Happy Birthday Mason! I just graduated college for my A.A. degree today, and we all got lightsabers with the college's logo on it. Funny thing is, I get this before my high school diploma; my high school graduation is on May 22nd.
You made a good argument for Empire Fr. Growing up I Always had a soft spot for Return, and still do, I love the villains in Return but Vader is truly menacing and done so well in Empire. Empire is probably the objectively "better" film. All 3 from Original Trilogy are classics tho.
Hey Mason, I’ve heard you mention Ghibli stuff a few times and I’m wondering what your favorite film of there’s is and you should consider doing a video on that too maybe
The fact that your birthday is May 4th is just peak Star Wars to me. Happy birthday and May the 4th be with you!

Happy Birthday Mason! I just graduated college for my A.A. degree today, and we all got lightsabers with the college's logo on it. Funny thing is, I get this before my high school diploma; my high school graduation is on May 22nd.
3:52 ooooo that’s me!!
Happy birthday!!!!
RIP Star Wars
You made a good argument for Empire Fr. Growing up I Always had a soft spot for Return, and still do, I love the villains in Return but Vader is truly menacing and done so well in Empire. Empire is probably the objectively "better" film. All 3 from Original Trilogy are classics tho.
Hey Mason, I’ve heard you mention Ghibli stuff a few times and I’m wondering what your favorite film of there’s is and you should consider doing a video on that too maybe
