What’s ironic about Meet the Robinsons is that it features TomorrowLand in the film when the main character visits the future as a brief cameo, with the joke being that it is called Todayland in the future. It does TomorrowLand better than the actual titular film. I can listen to the ending song Little Wonders for hours because of how much I love Meet the Robinsons. This film along with Treasure Planet, Brother Bear and Atlantis the Lost Empire are the hidden gems of the Disney experimental era.
Fun fact about the Haunted Mansion movie with Eddie Murphy: The mansion itself was designed to look like an architectural mashup of both the Florida Mansion and the Disneyland mansion (since they both have completely different facades). I thought that was really neat, and the set design and effects in that movie is definitely what shines the most.
I feel like Pirates already had a lot of those themes and emotions in the ride. In the ride, there is a long tunnel section where the ghosts of pirates warn you about the allure of treasure, and how it is a curse. The ride is a love letter to pirate lore, but it still maintains that attitude about piracy, and shows the skeletons before you enter the pirate raid, insinuating that you traveled back in time AGAIN (Since the drop from the bayou is explicitly called a travel back in time) and the skeletons are what the pirates you're seeing will ultimately become. Before Jack Sparrow was added, there were skeletons up the side of the final lift hill. And you heard one final "Dead Men Tell No Tales" before reaching the top, seemingly concluding this statement. The film(s) perfectly encapsulates this idea with the cursed gold turning you into a skeleton. The signature Marc Davis humor was there too. I think it's a tell tale sign that you can have gags from the ride like the prisoners trying to draw out the dog and Barbosa drinking infinitely mixed in with all the others. The movie gives you the SAME FEELING as if you were riding the ride
So sad the story fails to be interesting but, I adore the bear suits. Its especially impressive when you remember that the movie was released in 2002! In my opinion, they never really dip into the uncanny valley %100, although there are times were it gets a bit close. But just knowing that we could have had horrible CGI with no chance for the animators to put time or care into them given what we know the mouse does to the hardworking people behind these projects, makes me happy each time I remember that the movie exists. Major props to everyone that worked hard to make the movie and much love to all the amazing puppeteers!
Hey man, I was just gifted your video by the algorithm and just wanted to say that I love your vibe! The Lynch poster in the background, starting the description with “welcome foolish mortals.” It’s all great! I had to instantly subscribe!
I came to the comments to check if anyone else had expressed this very sentiment, and if not, to say it myself! This is fantastic work. I knew I had to subscribe to his channel less than a third of the way in-I’m old and I’ve been around TH-cam since the beginning, so I KNOW what I like at this point! I love his perspective and am consistently impressed by his way with words!
Ik this isn’t a Disney property, nor is it a ride, but my dad and I have always said that the movie The Goonies NEEDS a ride, specifically based around the underground portion where the main “adventure” takes place. That part when they all go down slides and the battle on the ship are absolutely perfect for a dark ride or slow rollercoaster
It is pretty incredible how the only time a Disney park ride adaption truly worked was for a whole ass trilogy that barely had anything to do with the ride Verbinski really just wanted to make a big budget pirate trilogy and used the ride as an excuse to make it
Mason, all of your videos are a delight, and you really hit it out of the park with this one. Personally, I'd love to hear your more indepth take on PotC. As someone who has adored the ride since before starting school, I still sometimes forget that the film franchise was inspired in that way! Regardless, I'm looking forward to you future works, and wish you the best. Thanks for creating the way that you do!
Hey that lapis person sounds pretty cool- XD Honestly though, I was so confused by the inclusion of Nothing Else Matters in jungle cruise, that it’s genuinely the only thing i remember from when I watched it back when it came out.
So as someone who did ride the original Mission to Mars, I can say that it must have had it's "red alert moment" in the ride because as a kid I got incredibly scared on it. That is literally the only real memory I have of Mission to Mars is that, somewhere in the ride, it implied we weren't going to make it back. I can only assume that this is where the rescue mission plot from the movie comes from. Also, a ride made in Epcot sometime around this movie's release was Mission: Space, a centrifuge flight simulator that took guests on a simulated flight to Mars. This ride has the same Mars visuals as the movie, the same title font and had Gary Sinise in the pre-show instructing you as your CapCom. Mission Space paid tribute to both the original Mission to Mars attraction as well as the attraction that had been in it's place, a sci fi journey through possible futuristic advancements aptly named Horizons. Just thought I'd give some additional info on the subject. Awesome video by the way! Would absolutely love a video exploring the Pirates franchise!
The Country Bear suits were done by the Jim Henson company and most of the performers were Jim Henson employees so I 100% adopt it as an honorary Muppet movie
I know it seems out of context, but thanks for making this video. It made me remember my past, how I went on the pirate attraction because it was my favorite movie and how you can get a good idea from the most unexpected.
I absolutely love the atmosphere of the Tower Hotel buut.. the Tower of Terror movie was honestly boring to me, the intro was like all I was invested in, I wish it showed more of the hotel's past, like the plot is about the family and Idk maybe the reason lightning struck that night was because the hotel is cursed as it's built on tainted ground. Either that or a full mock up of what the Twilight Zone episode would have been like. Also Pirates is goated, just wish th they kept Jack more serious he's a badass that's funny not a joke who's unlikable. Also wtf was original HM's plot? Like Ramsley murders a woman that Master Gracey loves because ??? Then he finds a reincarnation of her and wants Gracey to get back with her because reasons even though he wants her out of the picture?! Huh?! Also bruh how the Hell did Leota get outta the mansion, one minute she's all "oh I can't move, you're gonna have to carry me" then she just can roll/get around? Like was it intentional? If so it really didn't feel that way.
Also gotta say, as someone who watched all three iterations of the Country Bear show in the Disney Parks, the movie was a HUGE disappointment! The story did almost _nothing_ to bring those great original characters to life! Yes, us die-hard Disney fans would likely agree with you, the costuming was great, but the story reduced them to just boring old bears and it sadly didn't save the actual Country Bear show at Disneyland from closing for good. 😔
Personally, watching jungle cruise as a Brazilian was wild. I mean, how did they manage to be so generic and stereotypical, honestly, this was just ridiculous
I still won't forgive the 2023 Haunted Mansion for their depiction of the hatbox ghost. Casting Jared Leto is bad enough, but seeing one of the most interesting and creepily designed characters on the ride reduced to a generic boring antagonist who monologues way too much about his plans is a big middle finger to the original ride's atmosphere imo.
I’ve always loved the ghost story component of the Haunted Mansion (2003), but felt that it wasn’t a good fit for that movie. The reincarnation of the lost love lured back to be sacrificed in order to bring peace to the mansion could have been great in a not so family friendly movie with real scares where the love interest has to find and save her. 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve always despaired as to the waste of a banger of a plot.
Your closing point of the video can also apply to the way a lot of big businesses that used to be great have gone. Great things are great because they were made with an actual purpose, not just because they can be made. Pirates of the Caribbean was great because the people involved wanted to make a great movie. Jungle Cruise was Dwayne-The-Rock-Johnson-ed because they just wanted to make a movie to make money. You always hear of how things like household appliances, tools, electronics, etc... that were made decades ago still work and function given they were taken care of vs newly made things that fall apart after a few years even if you baby them. Companies would rather burn their goodwill to make a quick buck because by the time consumers catch on to the quantity > quality approach and stop giving the company their business the people up top have already made their money and no longer care
I love Mansion ❤ my favorite ride and I so missed it at Disneyland right now. I hope it comes back soon i guess next right. I went in march it closed and i will be going n oct so I assuming it will be closed. 😢
I would love to see you take deep dive into Pirates of the Caribbean, i'd love to hear what you think made the first trilogy so good and maybe talk about what the other movies did so wrong and how to correct its mistakes.
N i love the Mansion movie and I love Eddie Murphy. I wish ppl stop hating. N honestly think it is something else but i won't go there. I am not going to say the movie is a Oscar winning but come on now it just a movie. The movie is great. I saw the remake n i actually enjoy the new movie n it was okay now that i think of it. But the original was better.
I haven't watched the entire video, but I have so many thoughts about ride movies as someone with a special interest in the parks. On one hand, I admire that people can create a story jam packed with lore out of 10 or more minutes of ride. I do it too. However, what makes it a bad movie is when they do it for money rather than storytelling. Disney will always do things for money its DISNEY for christs sake but there has to be heart there somewhere. But as more and more of these movies are pumped out, I start to feel like it's less about caring for a character and more about wanting capital. They wouldn't be making the Figment movie if he didn't make them as much money as he does and thats really annoying. If cranium command was popular, they would talk about the history of it and how deeply it affected Disney as a company. Sorry if my thoughts are really scattered and clunky I'm just SUPER autistic and I love these little park dudes (gender neutral). I genuinely have so much respect for the people who work on these movies who love the rides and want to make good media in their name who are overshadowed by the pigs in charge
I love the first 4 pirates. Never saw the fifth one I heard it was terrible. Then we have one of the most evil toxic women tried to ruin every thing I hate amber so much I also equally hate Larson I hope after how bad the marvels did they write her out of the future mcu our grow balls disney and sack here and recast the dang character fire Kennedy to see ruined episode 8 of Star Wars.
As someone who loves the ride. I hate the 2003 haunted Mansion because it’s nothing like the ride. At least the 2023 version includes the actual lore of the ride. People say the muppets haunted Mansion is the best, but I refuse to watch it Because I hate the muppets.
What’s ironic about Meet the Robinsons is that it features TomorrowLand in the film when the main character visits the future as a brief cameo, with the joke being that it is called Todayland in the future. Personally, Muppets Haunted Mansion is the best adaptation of that ride.
yes yes yes!!!!
Not personally. Actually just objectively.
I haven't actually seen that one I do love them though, it's just not been something I've had the chance to watch
@@sky0kast0 Well I certainly hope you get to, it's a laugh a millisecond!

THE RIDES CAME FIRST??? Oh lord this is blowing my mind
Watch "the imagineering story". Disney has made classics better than their movies at their parks.
Mason, all of your videos are a delight, and you really hit it out of the park with this one.

I was just about to say the plot of Country Bear Jamboree is literally the Muppets (2011) when you mentioned it
I would LOVE to watch a full video on Pirates of the Caribbean and hear your thoughts on it!
I hope we get an Expedition Everest movie eventually.
I would love a pirates deep dive
I don’t care what anyone says, Tomorrowland is a fantastic movie for me. I just love it so much
i actually had no clue the pirates of the Caribbean ride came before the movies!! another incredible video, thank you so much for making it!!!
I know it seems out of context, but thanks for making this video.
It made me remember my past, how I went on the pirate attraction because it was my favorite movie and how you can get a good idea from the most unexpected.
If you made a review/analysis video of the POTC trilogy I would click on it SO fast! Loving your videos, keep up the excellent work!

This video is great! So much effort and research, well done
Opening up on the Boardwalk Bullet!!! I love Kemah, but this is singlehandedly the most rough ride I've ever been on. Never again!!
Also gotta say, as someone who watched all three iterations of the Country Bear show in the Disney Parks, the movie was a HUGE disappointment! The dismayed moan of “noooo” that oozed out of my lungs at the notion of a Seth Rogan “Figment” adaptation
I'm not at all surprised at the pre-written statement and declared fandom of Country Bears from E-Dog. Hell yeah true fans rise up
Yup would love a vid of the pirates franchise!! ☠️

Tower of Terror was my favorite movie and I wish more people would know about it! I would love to have it on Disney plus.
I love the Tower of Terror! My parents and I say "cha-ching!" ALL the time because of it!

It would be cool to have a video about the pirates movies because I like them they’re awesome
Would love to see a video on the Pirates movies
I would’ve loved to see a Haunted Mansion movie directed by Guillermo del Toro 😩RIP
I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on the Pirates franchise!!
I hope you get around to Wild Ride / Willows in your own time. I think it's amusingly hectic and bizarre.
In depth PotC is a good idea. Have fun.
12:14 not to totally um actually you; but that was Janet, Arnold’s cousin.
Now going change country bears.
