I agree with you: I'm sold on the 6.8 Western! Now if the various ammo makers can get their acts together to make money off 6.8 Western ammo sales! If I were a stock holder or percentage partner in those ammo companies, I would be pissed if my company didn't make ammo for the 6.8 Western!
I’m absolutely loving the 6.8 western but so frustrated with the lack of support from the industry. Berger finally pumped out some of the 170 EOL’s but could only buy 200. Still have 100 Nosler 165’s and 300 Sierra 175’s. Bought 50 Hammer 156g to try. The 175’s shoot consistently great, half MOA. The 170 & 165’s shoot pretty well, 3/4 MOA. Only one group from the 156 Hammers so far, but 4 shots at 200 yards at 3/8 MOA. Brass is pretty dodgy. I get the occasional spicy round which I blame on the Winchester brass. Shot an elk at 186 yards last fall with the 175’s, double lung pass through with zero meat damage. Not much else to say so far. Thanks for doing the work for the rest of us.
I know it! A lot of shooters are in the same boat. I'm just happy a lot of us are able to get really good results from the limited supplies we have at our disposal for reloading.
I have been really surprised with my 6.8 browing pro mcillan long range, thing is a tack driver. I want to keep playing with loads for it but am frustrated Hornady wont make a ELDx round for it. Been using the 175 grain seirra game changers. My wife and her nephew used my 6.8 on their mule deer in Utah and it performed very well. With other companies building rifles around the cartridge maybe other bullet makers will want the $$$ and start building something heavier in the .277 round.
It isn't. He was saying now that the military is moving towards 6.8mm sized projectiles (.277), maybe 6.8 Western as a cartridge will get a boost in popularity.
Gives me 300RCM vibes all over again. Great round that don't get support for some reason and will fade into the sunset. Not because it's lacking in any way. Just because the other manufacturers have wayyyyy superior marketing and have dominated this long heavy for caliber projectiles. the prc family and Creedmoor took the spotlight.
I agree that the marketing has been bad. I've heard people complain that Browning is now chambering fast twist 270 winchester thinking that it undermines the 6.8. I think it is a brilliant way to get other higher weight bullets made for .277. Once they are being produced its easier to start also loading them in 6.8. Seems like a good move to me. Probably just wishful thinking though.
Thanks for the explanation. I'm looking at a Christensen Arms FFT 20" barrel. I like the mpr folding chassis but it does add weight. Tough choice! Also, I'll run suppressed like you too. Harvester Evo from silencerco
You watch Desert Dog Outdoors video on the 6.8 Westerner? It's pretty funny and seems to be on target, to a point. I actually agree with him. His video on conserving ammo is also good, where he mentions the 6.8 again. Though I'm not a fan of the 6.8 West, you seem solid with it. Good video.
About to start experimenting with 150gr nosler partition in my 6.8 for whitetail. I've shot 2 deer with the 175gr browning ammo but didn't get any expansion. Both bucks didn't take another step and that's cool and all,but i want to see some expanded exits instead of little pencil size exit holes. But I'm a hunter more than a paper guy and I'm open to suggestions if you have a better option for whitetail 300 yards or less. Browning xbolt rifle.
Will you be doing a more in depth review on the Gunwerks 6ix? I have ordered two of them and like it for the same reasons you do. How does it do on your 5.56?
I have been wanting to build a 6.8 western for about 2 years now. Love this cartridge. I just found this video. ADG is now making 6.8 Western brass

Love the cartridge but hate the politics around it. Manufacturers refusing to support it because it competes with their products
Yes! Especially Nosler and Hornady.

I use adg 6.5 saum brass fire formed to western. Brass problems solved
Looking forward to my 6.8
I don't know if I already asked, but what rifle are you getting?
@@roguesummithunter Have not Decided.. still looking
Cant wait to buy my Christensen Ridgeline in 6.8 Western!!!
Yes sir, that looks like a sweet rifle!

I sure hope so!!
Love the vid I’m hoping as the military starts using 6.8 mm stuff people start making more projectiles
Yeah, that is a great thought!
not likely with fury
I thought 6.8 western wasn't the same as .277 fury.

Thanks for the no bs review lol you helped me make my mind up about building a rifle in 6.8 western.
Happy holidays man keep the videos coming.
You are welcome, have fun with it! Happy holidays to you as well!

Absolutely!

Your rifle looks so much like my Christensen MPR 300 wm
Maybe someone like Norma will jump on the band wagon or Federal with the terminal ascent imo thats a decent bullet imo.
Better off doing a 270 Sherman Shortmag because he’s got ADG brass for it.
I'm pretty well invested at this point in 6.8 Western. But I definitely understand where you are coming from.
Will you be doing a more in depth review on the Gunwerks 6ix? I have ordered two of them and like it for the same reasons you do.
How does it do on your 5.56?
Yes, I was planning on it!
IT does very well, I like it.
which bubble level is that on your scope?
It's made by Flat Line Ops, and it is the Halo X.
270 beats the shit out of the 6.8 Westerner fact
