    my tools rode with me for 45 years evevy where I went. Brought me home more times than I can count. I used to throw a strap or rope over the engine and tied it on my starter and hoist it up to the bell housing. Great video hero.

    Just back from a bit of a road trip from Michigan to Indy to Cleveland back to Michigan. 194 west to I69 south up to Cleveland and back home on the Ohio Turnpike. Hundreds of trucks. Only saw 3 cabovers. One headed south on i69 hauling a tank - I suspect milk to the Nestle factory. One cabover on a flatbed being hauled somewhere and a quick glance of a cabover pulling an Amazon Prime trailer.

    Delco 39mt is the updated starter looks a little different because it doesn’t have a cone over the gear but it will fit that motor and is half the weight

    This is why you need an air starter: Much lighter, much smaller and _much_ more fun when you wind it up. 😋
    It'll definitely get you noticed in the Truck Stop!

      Don't they use up alot of Air though?

    • @danielseelye6005
      @danielseelye6005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexanderbeck5063 They can use up _all_ the air if you let it. 😋
      Older engines were using lower compression so you could turn it over and light it off quickly. As the need for more power increased, they bumped up the compression, added turbos, put big cams in and the air starters were replaced by electric as they could go longer to give the more powerful engines the time to light up.
      Some old fire engines, including Macks, had air starters because they would be hooked up to air lines in the fire house so they could go and light up quickly. It also helped they were inside so the blocks weren't bone cold.
      It's all about the application and the location.

    • @tater_relocater

      @@danielseelye6005 air start went away when batteries got better trucks used to have four 6 volt batteries and a series parallel switch to run a 24v starter . Better 12 volt batteries with more cca put the air starter and the 24 volt systems out of business . Military and buses the most common for 24v.
      Just my two cents.

    I've had terrible luck on re-man stuff in the last year or so. The price beats new, but the aggrevation level and delays in return/replace take all the 'fun' out of it.

      It used to be "Pay a little more now or a lot more later" but with the quality of new parts being more and more suspect, it's damn near a crapshoot whether to go new or remanufactured.
      I feel for ya and hope you got your stuff worked out.
