My dad prepared them for hibernation each year, we fed them leftover fruit and vegetables. When my mother left the original family home, my brother brought them to me and asked that I put them in my yard [1990's], the last one somehow escaped a few years ago. Fascinating creatures.

It's funny that your holding a turtle, which I Call them! In Georgia, I see them walking across the road all the time. I found one that size Robert is holding, walking in the middle of the road, and knowing people like to eat them, I stopped the car and put the turtle in the back of the car, drove to a friends land, where there was a 22 acre, man made lake. As I put him into the waters edge, he went under the water, then 20 feet out, his head popped out of the water, as to say thank you and under he went...It's turtle season and I stop frequently, and my Latino kids, get out of the car, pick them up and bring the turtles to the same direction they are going! Like all creatures on earth, they just need a little help from time to time!

I was already going to vote for Kennedy, but now I love him even more! I love turtles! I have a a turtle named Tomi. I have had her since 1983. I found out from a vet that she is a native turtle of Oklahoma, and Texas, now endangered. She was given to me by someone who bought her in a pet shop, and could no longer care for her. Apparently back then people used to be able to collect them from the wild, and then sell them to pet shops. I am glad this is now illegal, but wished it had never been legal in the first place. Often animals sold like this in pet stores are never cared for properly. As much as I love her, I still wish she could be with other turtles of her kind.
