I am 81 with no health issues moderately active. I have taken 1000 mg of turmeric for the last eight years for my immune system and never catch calls. I take 20 g of collagen powder every day and have for the last six years. Also take glucosamine Have recently added GG. I hang out with 70 year olds and am healthier than most. Have had no joint replacements.
Biggest issue when reading studies: Correlation does not = Causation. So, to say those who died earlier because of taking multivitamins vs those who don’t is a biased and wrong conclusion. What was the continuing health-status? Did people already have undiagnosed diseases? Who designed the study? What type of study was it? Is there automatic bias due to authors affiliations? Etc. I’m highly skeptical of this.
I think the size alone of this particular study (from the National Cancer Institute) means it is worth paying attention to but it appears to be well designed and they had adjusted for those factors as explained here www.cancer.gov/news-events/press-releases/2024/multivitamins-do-not-lower-risk-of-death#:~:text=The%20analysis%20showed%20that%20people,heart%20disease%2C%20or%20cerebrovascular%20diseases.
@@thehonestchannel That’s an article. I want to see the actual study. “An analysis of data” could mean a retrospective study, which is not gold-standard. I am extremely skeptical.
@GenXVictoria The study paper is listed at the bottom of the article. Have added it to the description too www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC11208972/
@AFndjdj7373I remember that! But what kind of tocopherol was used? Science is complex and riddled with fraud and incompetence but we shouldn’t throw the baby out with the bath water.
@MKBratster It's thought that they counteract each other and also can cause stomach distress. Ideally take caffeine pre-workout with creatine being taken later post work out (ideally with food).

@@christinee8353 Thank you for the information! Your reply to @lindapringle also prompted me to do a little research - I’m finding mixed info, of course! I may be adjusting my routine. Glad I saw your comment; you inspired me to dig deeper.
Excellent video with great explanations and a succinct and easy easy to understand delivery. A lot of valuable information in this stream thank you so much!
Doesn’t It depend on the brands of vitamins? Some common brands have toxic additives and fillers and not in absorbable forms of a particular vitamin. Also I’m curious if this info was included in research conducted. A little skeptical as to who is conducting research and if pharmaceutical companies might not have a lot to gain by making supplements seem ineffective. It’s known that ppl don’t really absorb nutrients as well as they would in their youth. So that is why supplements come in handy.
I too am deeply skeptical. As we've seen many times, seemingly impartial bodies have many links to pharmaceutical companies and highly biased approaches. How can we trust the sample selection? There's no suggestion that all people in the study took the same multivitamin or used it with the same regularity. Thus we are likely talking about wildly different dosing & efficacy.
I take k2 MK7 because my cholesterol was high, and my doctor wanted me on medication. After 2 months my cholesterol levels was normal and it haven’t been that low in 8 years
Hi. So glad you found me! In the description you'll find a link to a page that details the supplements I take. I use a combined vit d/k2 and magnesium supplement that contains 250mg Magnesium L-threonate. Hope this helps!
Good info:I don't trust any observational study. Relies on individual human memory to draw scientific conclusion. I believe in mixing quality supplements in and out of my diet. Saves money and allows me to take a variety of supplements. Im a super active 61 yr old with lots of overuse injuries from decades of sports. Feel like it keeps the cells confused.
If you do a deep dive on creatine, I'd be interested to learn tips for those like me who get headaches. I've tried twice, including a lower dose. I think it was dehydration.
I get headache from creatine too even though I am hydrated. If have to hydrate so much more, wonder if it as good for you as "they" say. Feel I get enough from diet now that I focus on protein :)
Wonderful video Clare. 😊 I wanted to mention I take Lyma vitamins. I am not endorsing the product but they are natural vitamin. They have an an ingredient that helps the body absorbed these vitamins. For me my vision improved and I felt better in general. I was very surprised. Their are many good vitamins out there but I thought I share my experience
Interesting topic I stick take a multi vitamin as with omega 3 , creatine ,as with collagen Have you done a video on the topic of AGES , which foods are high in them and what they do to the body
US retailers technically shouldn’t be selling it while it is investigated as a drug. I explain the situation in this article www.honest.scot/nutrition/whats-the-deal-with-the-sale-of-nmn-in-the-us/
When I tried to order on Amazon, as soon as I logged in all of the NMN selections disappeared and were replaced with NR as soon as they realized I was a US buyer. I still can't order it.
Are your parents eating sufficient amounts of meat, fish, and other animal foods? Because basically all the vitamins you mention are abundant in animal-based foods. The only really important exception is vitamin D, which is high in liver, etc., but still not enough for most adults. (B12 is for example virtually impossible to acquire on a vegan diet etc..) Great video!
@@thehonestchannel That's a great base, and then to supplement specific stuff needed, especially at older age as you said! But it's amazing how much we can just get from adequate food.

I know I'm late to the party here, lol, but I hope you'll still be able to answer a question. I'm so confused about the multivitamin information. The article you cited mentioned that there doesn't seem to be any advantage to those taking multivitamins, and yet you mentioned and suggested taking a particular multivitamin that you take. Am I missing something? Thanks so much. I love your channel lots and lots.
So glad you enjoy the channel. I do mention in the video that despite this study I still take a multivitamin but not daily. I didn’t say I recommend others do the same, I just share what I do and also say that I may very well still be overdoing it with the supplements I take and we have no real way of knowing what the exact dosages we should take for us as individuals are. I do recommend getting tested. It is possible to overdo supplements and the reality is the picture is confused and will likely remain so for some years to come. What we should understand from this huge study is that taking a daily multivitamin in itself is unlikely to add years to life. I hope that helps clear things up.
Just 250mg every other day. I've linked to a page with my regimen in the description because I alternate with a multivitamin that also includes B3 as part of an active B complex.
Honestly, what Type, brand, purity of vitamin did people take to show these results? Also, how healthy were they without it? Exercise, sleep, food quality, stress? These are all factors… if you live off Doritos… it’s not because you took a multivitamin…. 🙃✨
