- In this video Rick Shiels PGA golf professional heads out to The Marriott Worsley Park Golf & Country Club to review a golf ball that claims to be the longest ball in golf.
The Quantix golf ball claims to fly 5 yards longer carry than the Titleist Pro V1. In this video Rick hits some putts with the golf ball, chips with the golf ball, tests it’s durability and also chops one in half.

Why not test the Quantix vs Titleist golf ball with the swingless driver to limit more variation between swings.
And check the distance himself instead of relying off the GCquad which doesnt check for disparities in golf balls...
The problem with these video of anyone is money and conditions its hard to believe someone who might be getting paid and favoritism. And also in open test like this he could of got tired or something the wind speed could have change alot of factors i would like to see something different with these test hitting 5 shots is establishing much
I’m actually friends with the guy who makes these. These balls are tested using a robot with a driver that swings the same way every time and hits the same spot on the club face every time as well. Much more accurate than sitting there on the the tee box hitting 5 of each and saying one is longer that the other.

@@phosmet5815 the gc quad doesn't take conditions into account though. But yes 5 swings has a lot of room for change. But also the swingless club will have variances in the shells it uses.

Don’t buy anything off the internet that promises you an extra 5 inches.... I mean YARDS!

You should use the swingless driver to test it😂
Would be much, much more consistent. Even Tiger Woods can’t hit 10 drives in a row almost all the same distance and quality of drives. Even Tiger Woods would hit his first 5 drives different from his last 5, sometimes better to start sometimes better towards the end. On top of that, the human mind is VERY strong and if you want to believe the ProV is better and also believe before putting it that it’s going to “sound clanky” then you’re going to think it sounds clanky. He may not admit or even recognize that he was thinking that before his test but his mind is strong(all are) and placebo effects have been proven in science countless time. So it’s a flawed test unfortunately.
Do the test in a lab with robots and see which goes farther. Or with the auto driver even would be much more consistent and reliable testing

Some golfers are just loyal to certain brands. I play nothing but Callway Golf clubs and the TaylorMade Tour Response golf ball. These are the only golf products I will play. They work for my game and always will. I will never change them for anything new as I can shoot in the 70s with my older Callway Golf golf clubs in my bag. No need to spend money on new clubs when my old ones work just fine.
What I need is a ball that travels a long way when topped. Does it do that?!

Whats the difference between the snell black and the snell blue? I just bought 5 boxes of the black but haven't hit them yet. I'm switching from the Vice pro plus.
@@robblumling3211 MTB-X are the blue colored boxes. They are both great balls. The MTB-X had more distance for me. You can compare them similarly to Pro-V1 & Pro-V1x. The MTB-X are slightly firmer in feel like the Pro-V1x and the MTB blacks are more like Pro-V1's. You're gonna love em either way! Dean Snell, as I know it has been involved in designing previous model of the Pro-V1 line as well as many other balls out there.

I do hope he checked how far they actually went because the launch monitor isn't always right with the different balls.

I love you Rick but I don’t know how you can tell us this is a reliable test.
I’ll say, talking about the placebo effect, part of choosing your golf ball simply is about how it makes your mind when you put your club behind it. We ALLLL think our shot will come out different if we see our club either behind a top ball or one that is not very good quality. And also we pretty much will all change our swing even, trying to maybe swing harder on the cheaper ball to get it to go farther and as an effect you’re not striking the ball as well with the less quality ball cause you’re trying to swing too hard
And to end the vid with "this is not a terrible ball" is suggesting the pro v is far superior....2 bloody yards...!!!

I don't think I've ever seen one on his videos where the conventional thought didn't "prove" true.
He did a video on Ping S56 and Ping I and the S56 had a much tighter dispersion and he still Said the Ping I Irons were more forgiving on off-center shots.
He's an entertainer. And that's okay. But yeah I don't like it how he takes stances like he does scientific tests.
This is obviously just for fun, if he really cared about doing it scientifically he would do way more hits and collect data with every club

If it's roughly £15 - £20 cheaper, I'd have no problems with "not a terrible ball" and only 2 yards shorter, if your a robot, that is 😆 Personally, i'll put up with these odd few reviews, take it with a pinch of salt, because the rest of his content is top notch, and it's possible, brand bias, and he just loves the Pro V, who doesn't 👌

Hey rick, I've listened to all your tips and I went to the range today. I still slice the living F**K out of the ball. I think a great idea for a video would grab one or maybe three people that slice the ball and show us how you coach them. Then I could see the mistakes I am probably making?
I've fixed my slice recently by changing my grip pressure (I used to grip WAY too tightly) and how far away I stand to the ball. My club face used to always hit near the toe, so I've moved slightly closer toward the heel at address and it's fixed my slice.
I should mention, I never realized I hit the toe as much as I did because my driver wasn't giving me that feedback. I recently picked up a used Taylormade M5 and I can feel exactly where the ball strikes the clubface. Either upper toe or top center. That athletes foot trick can also help, i never tried it though.
Try putting another golf ball 1-2 feet behind the one you are hitting. Hit the back one backwards on your backswing. This helps with going straighter back. If you are right handed you also need to make sure you change your grip so you see more of your left hand knuckles (like 3 of them). It will feel very awkward at first, but you will get used to it.
Do you record your swings? If you don't you absolutely should. Will help you isolate what you're doing well and what you're doing poorly and help you figure out where the slice is coming from. You might think that you're fixing something only to find that when you actually swing you revert to your old swing subconsciously.
There can be so many things going wrong when you slice the ball.
Two things that are of the utmost importance. 1, keep your head down through the swing looking right at the back of the ball. Most people start to turn their head with the swing not even seeing the club actually hit the ball. This will make a big difference. Even if you think you are keeping your eyes on the ball you probably are not keeping them their long enough. The club should be well on its way past your shoulders before you look up. Watch the pros in slow motion and you will know what I mean. 2, You need to change the path of your club. you need to swing the club face from the inside to the outside. In other words from the 7 oclock position to 1 oclock. Changing your swing this way will take lots of practice, does not feel natural but it will in time. Rick has a video about this.

Hi rick I’ve found a golf ball they sell at Costco And amazon called the Callaway hex tour soft golf balls and I found them to be really good considering they’re a budget ball and I would love to see you test them as they could try and compete with the chrome soft and the chrome soft x

* 5 yards further out of bounds
* 5 yards further onto the adjacent fairway
* 5 yards through the green onto the next tee
* 5 yards further into the water
* etc....
Extra 5 yards for me today and id be calling an ambulance for the guy mowing the lawn haha

Yes I did wonder that as surely GC quad cannot perfectly predict the effect the new dimple pattern will have on flight.
GCQ measures the speed and trajectory of the ball in front of itself. It has no knowledge of the aero dynamics of the ball in flight. This means you should physically measure the total distance travelled, not use a computer calculation.
Rick does not carry his driver 280. He just lies about his yardages.
THIS! Of course the computer will calculate the same... It's not getting all the data. I love Rick, but this test needs to incorporate the real world flight data. Not simulated.

I understand the test but still your swing is not gonna be the same strength and contact point everytime. I would like to see the same test but with the swingless club that would be consistent strength and same contact point everytime the ball is hit.
Here’s an idea. Scrape of the QUANTIX name and replace it with Titleist and bring it to a ProV1 only medal.

Not only do I think it would have been interesting to see where they all ended up in the fairway, but it also would be good info to see how ball reacts with a mid-iron as well at slower club head speeds.

You should use the swing less golf club for carry distance claims, that way u remove more variables and get a more accurate carry distance for balls that claim more carry distance. Keep up the great work and I can’t wait for your next video.

I'd like to see ball comparisons within each maker....So like Calloways, pick a premium version(Chrome Soft), a middle priced version(Superhot or ERC) and their budget ball(Warbirds)...same with Titleist, Taylormade, etc, etc

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but the dimples affect the drag of the ball as it moves through the air, not sure GCQuad can calculate that effect from just the initial hit?
It would be interesting for these tests to check where the balls actually landed (assuming the same bounce distance for all of them, which wouldn't be that different I think)
Try the MG Golf C4 Senior ball. The Regular C4 is pretty good, the Senior ball is non-conforming hot ball which is supposed to fly longer by 15 yards.
For your recreational golfers that go scramble on the weekends that hit bogey or close to bogey, game improvement balls might make a noticeable distance.
I'd like to see a demonstration on different feels, from hard to soft in correlation to swing speed off the driver. What balls are ideal for slower speed and faster speeds for optimal distance and carry. What balls are great for reduced contact with driver face to reduce unwanted spin to straighten bad shots, what balls are good for shot shaping. And for putting on slow or fast greens. We often pick up balls and play the best shot, we sometimes use different balls for putting. It's just a fun game with no real hard competition except maybe who loses the least balls.

I found for myself, Srixon Z star XV out perform, ProV1, TP5X. Z star are outstanding balls, they don't scuff as easy I have found as well as performance edge.
