I use these balls a lot! I am a disabled golfer, and my distance and ability to hit the ball well has diminished as my condition worsens. These balls have actually helped me a lot on tee and fairway shots. I replace them on the green with regular Callaway Super Soft balls, and my golf buddies have no issue with me doing that. They really have helped my ability to strike the ball better, and have actually helped me get some distance.

Rick, funny story. I typically hit Srixon. Yesterday while looking for my ball in the woods I found this odd looking Calloway ball. Well for the rest of the match I started hitting it. I played very well with it for some reason. It wasn’t until I put it in the ball holder in the golf cart that I realized it was larger than the rest. I had never heard of them before and just so happen that your video today was about them. I just ordered 2 dozen to try out! Thanks for the video. Without much thought I Personally felt like my drives were slightly higher and longer and my chips were on point.
Rick, I have been watching your videos for 2 years and I have greatly improved. I went from a 100 average per round to breaking 80 for the first time and getting my first eagle ever. Keep up the great videos!
Thanks for not editing out the shots that don't always go as planned. Definitely one of the reasons we can relate to you and your channel Rick. Nevertheless you've helped a lot with my game. Would love to play a round with you mate. Eric from South Africa 🇿🇦
I have used these and they are very good. A little shorter on drives and a little longer on irons. Super easy to hit and they do go higher than a regular ball. I actually had my best putting day ever using these. 13 putts for 9 holes.
Hi Rick, the larger ball does not rotate more often, the reason why you would need to hit it harderd when putting is the higher friction it creates due to the larger contact surface with the grass. It's the same principle as tyres. Wider tyres have a better stopping distance to to a larger contact surface.
I used them this past weekend and loved them. I’m a high handicapper, I think non professionals which is most of us, should give them a try. Nice video Rick, also it’s my b-day.
I was an Assistant at Tinseltown Park GC back in the day, C1975 and my Ball Sponsor was Penfold and I lovingly remember the good old Penfold Ace! And the fuss that there was between 1.62 and 1.68. For me, now aged 64, it was always 1.62 as standard.
Hi Rick, I’ve been watching all your videos and now took up golf, with the tips from your videos I’ve not been playing bad golf. Long way from the pga tour haha, but loving the evenings on the course, with my son. Cheers Rick keep the videos coming 👍👍
Like many of the comments state, this golf ball is incredible. At first I just thought it was a mental thing, but having used it now for a month or so (10 + rounds), I truly believe it has made a difference in my game. I'm anywhere between a 9 - 11 handicap depending on the season and whatnot, but last week (August 2022) I broke par for the first time in my life with a -1 (70). If you have never played with or seen one of these Callaway SuperSoft MAX balls, you truly won't believe how much bigger they are compared to a normal ball. My buddies flip me a lot of shit, calling it a "beach ball", but it seems to just help me visualize my shots much better. And surprisingly, this ball has helped the most when it comes to my putting. I'm not the best putter by any means. Before switching over to this ball, I had an issue of "scuffing" my putter on the grass before making contact with the ball, and would seem to do so a couple times per round, very frustrating. However, since switching over to this MAX ball, with it being bigger, I have just told myself to concentrate on hitting the upper half of the ball, and it has made a world of difference. If you haven't, do yourself a favor and at least try them. They are surprisingly CHEAP in price as well. I believe I paid $25 for a 12-pack here in the States. Rick is correct in saying that they do seem to go a bit "higher" than a normal PRO-V1, which can sometimes help, or hurt, depending on how well you strike it, but since switching I feel like my consistency has been my most important aspect.
Callaway has rebranded the MAGNA ball this year after changing the cover as they have with the Super Soft and Chrome Soft. I have played the MAGNA ball in the past and really liked them.
This is just the updated version of the Magna ball from 1-2 years ago right? Definitely an interesting concept for beginners, makes it a bit easier to get under the ball apparently since the middle of the ball is higher up than normal.
Also it should make fast greens slower because of the increased moment of inertia (translate:it requires more energy to roll it) and less hook and slice because again it's harder to spin it so much.
@@cheloniamydas6753 isn't the ball still the same weight? Or is my physics out of date haha Speaking of putting perfect contact on the put would be slightly higher as well considering the cog being higher
@@ForzaOwnz yeah, but MOI of a ball is 2/5×M×R^2 (for a uniform ball, which exactl golf ball isn't, but it,s as close as it gets) where R is the radius and M is mass (doesn't change). So yeah, it changes quadratically with radius.
Years ago, when I first started playing, there was a ball called the "Top Flite Magna" it was also bigger than a normal ball but it also claimed to fly straighter by reducing hooks and slices. Does anyone else remember this ball?
Yes, the Magna found its way into my bag back in the early 80’s I think. Forgot all about till I saw this video then couldn’t remember the name till your comment.
I felt like maybe I was a 1/2 a club to a club shorter with these. Loved chipping with them. Real easy to get chips up in the air. Didn’t have issues putting.
This is the ball for those of us who still own Persimmon Drivers. It is soft enough to compress like a Balata ball of old but has flight qualities to hit it straighter. Good video again from rick.
I'm a relative beginner and a very high handicapper and just find this ball gives me lots of confidence when striking it. It goes higher and further as well. The amount of times I've hit the flag and it's stayed above the hole is frustrating, roll on July 21st when I can take the flag out.
I play the Callaway Magna. 1) you have to hit it harder when putting. 2) pull the flag… I had two birdies hit the flag and bounce away. 3) lift the putter 1/4 inch off the ground to strike the ball equator. I love this ball.
I played my first round with theses today. I’m not sure if it is a coincidence, but I shot my lowest round in months. I did not notice it being anymore difficult to putt which I was concerned about. I hit more fairways, chipped extremely well, but the biggest notice was the confidence I had on par 3’s. I felt like I had more control.
Yes very interesting. Wouldn't mind giving them a try, although I do think putting them into the hole will be harder. Thanks for showing. Oooh that was close for a hole in one.
You should use them on the GC quad and compare to a pro V1. Get spin rates, distances, launch angles, etc. That’s the only way to get good info on a ball like this.
Those of us of a certain age will remember when (in 1990) the UK & Eire changed ball size from 1.62" to match the US at 1.68". A review at the time would have read much the same! 20 years ago I played Top Flight's Magna line of balls. I really liked them. Good distance. Plus they felt wonderfully soft. At least to me. But at that time I was also putting an extreme amount of backspin on my short irons.

I grabbed a dozen of the Yellow ones and must say they are MUCH easier to find than a standard size white ball. That was the thing I liked the most about them honestly. I have not had an issue with that sort of thing, but maybe it depends on the cart. They really aren't that much bigger honestly. Its remarkable because every other golf ball on the planet is the same size, but you really can barely even tell they are any bigger via the naked eye.
