How in the world can people see this as a good review!? Honest maybe, but fatally flawed in all other respects. Utter BS really!
Sound test - one sited. Why not make some putts with ProV1 for comparison. It would have been easy to do, true? Then chipping, same story, no comparison. I was not even sure what he was testing. What was good or not so good. And we go on... next up bunker, yes we can see some marks on the PXG ball after ten shots. But hey! You guessed it... no comparison. Over to the seven and six iron joke; the honest reviewer made sure that his message (there is something wrong with this ball) came across loud and clear. And as per usual no comparison. Finally the big stick is out and, lo and behold now we got a comparison. Humpf.. still the honest reviewer approach is strange: Why not interlace the hits (between PV1 and PXG). And why not use unbiased technology (to at least assist with) for spin numbers etc.
If the review is honest then forgive him; for he doesn't know what he is doing.
I'm a Pro V1 guy (I have not tested the PXG XTREME ball).

  • @bs3156

Would be really useful to do a side by side comparison of the balls like when you were hitting the drives.
Comparing the sound for instance of the two balls would be useful (not many can remember the sound of a prov1).
When chipping, seeing you hit a pro v1 to demonstrate the spin would be useful as well.
    Love the content ❤

Weird thing is I heard the awful sound on the putter right away. And then when Rick was driving the first time, I was like EFFF that really IS a disgusting sound for a golf ball just to realise that those horrible sounds of the drives were with a prov... but the the PXG was equally as horrendous and I realised that it was the G425

So, I just played 18 holes with the PXG balls in a 40 degrees north east weather. So I am a senior player with a swing speed of less than 80 mph. I am posting this because my results are great, especially the short game spin. Overall, the driver and hyprid were very similar but the short game spin was noticable better with PXG. I really liked the extreme white color and the extra spin on my short irons.
Again, I am a senior golfer so everyone is different, but for me this is in my bag. I have been playing the Pro V1 for years but for me, this is a better ball because of its short game spin.

Received my PXG balls yesterday. I took them and a PRO V1x to the practice green and putted it. I cannot agree with your assessment that the PXG ball is clickier/harder feeling or sounding than the pro v1x. They were almost exactly the same feel off a David Edel putter. Admittedly the EDEL putter is extraordinarily soft. Nonetheless, there was no difference in feel between PXG and PRO V1x. Rick, you may be a bit biased. I’ve played Pro V1x since it came out.

@@roberth1284 Rick knows what he likes & golf is so mental. His driver test is meaningless. PXG's data is robot testing & it's clear that they targeted the ball to be a tweener between the Pro V1 and Pro V1x. It appears that's exactly what it is. The durability looks to be iffy but I've found the same with TM & Callaway. Titleist durability is unmatched in the industry.
Rick must really hate the Pro V1x too because that ball is very hard off the putter.

    Very good review, thanks!
What I believe would be good if it was tested how the ProV1 would have spun on the greens in comparison to the PXG ball - I think performance is very dependent on the conditions during day this was filmed.
And also, the photo of the ProV1 was of the new model and Rick tested the old one. This, however, makes sense as I am certain that PXG were comparing themselves to the old model.

MyGolfSpy did some research on the PXG ball and found it to be made at the same factory as the Kirkland ball. It also has the same dimple pattern and same type of cover, but with a different inside. Basically, many believe it's just a Kirkland ball with a firmer core and a better paint job. Also, it's $39.99 in the US, so a good $10-$15 lower than most of the premium balls.

Rick have you ever thought of doing a blind test of golf balls? Someone else places the ball on the tee. Top and back to make your own mark so you cant see logo or marking made by the manufacture. Then you hit 10 balls and see which one you like the feel of and which one goes further. I have done this and you might be surprised by what the blind test shows. I have never played anything PXG, haven't seen them yet in my club house or Dicks sporting goods.

I've played 3 rounds with the PXG ball and it performed just fine. Also didn't have the scuff issues. Greenside with my 60 wedge, got plenty of spin so much so it spun more than a Pro V1x when I tried them side by side. Where I didn't like the PXG ball as well was off the irons. Seemed to spin a bit more and cost a bit of distance, about 1/2 a club. Sound for me wasn't bad off clubs or putter and that may be due to the clubs I use and putter I use. I would say, at this point, the PXG ball is more comparable to a 3 piece mid-price urethane ball and just under where the Tour balls are but it is still a solid performer for the price (I can get them for 35 per dozen) and for most amateur players it will work well.

Thanks for the review Rick. I personally do not care for the sound or the feel of the Pro V1. I have tried many golf balls and so far, the Vice Pro Plus feel, sound, performance and price have won me over. My last go around of testing a new ball was the Wilson Staff...again the feel on the putting green was not the same. A friend of mine is a dye hard PXG fan, hopefully he will make the purchase for me to give this one a try and see how it does. Cheers and thx for the review.

Hi Rick. I did exactly the same test and i am a PXG nutcase. I will NOT be changing from my ProV1. Played a round at Frinton-On-Sea in the wind. ProV1 had more control, more stopping power and longer off the T. The biggest difference was putting. PXG was clicky and certainly not soft. I gave the 11 remaining balls away to a junior.

Odd that your review seems to contradict everyone else. Maybe the ball feels hard, doesn't seem to spin as much, and sounds clicky because it's frozen? How about a test in a controlled environment? Guessing the ball will feel softer and perform better. Also seeing spin numbers on wedges and irons would be nice. Seems the only data you shared (that wasn't of your own opinion) was driver distance on what looks to be a very old day.

And as an interesting coincidence, I just went through the PXG fitting for a driver fitting. At the sale price of the drivers I put in a Velocore shaft for the same price of the other drivers with a stock shaft. But the interesting thing is, for my first fitting, the they fitted using the prov1 made for trackman and on my 2nd fitting they started using the pxg ball. My ball speed was way down (4-6 mph) when using the pxg ball.

Nice review, but can't wait to do my own test with the PXG ball as I find the data in this test suspect. I also find it odd that the ball was 4mph slower off the driver and spun less with wedges which is opposite of TXGs review which had the PXG ball faster by 1mph from wedge to driver and spun more producing similar numbers to the ProV1X. The harder feel is consistent with its firmer core which is firmer than the ProV1X and more similar to a left dash. The firmer core should be faster and in line with the TXG review. 4mph is to big of a gap so I'm not sure how you fudged this one up Rick. I don't even see 4mph difference between two piece pinnacle range balls and premium balls unless they are flight limiting.

Rick, your chart that you displayed for about 2 seconds shows a club head speed of 108 but a ball speed of 87 for the pro v1, and 108 for the pxg ball. Kind of hard to buy in to the accuracy of your test with data like that. Ball speeds should be roughly 1.4 to 1.5 times the clubhead speed depending on quality of the strike. From what I gathered in watching your field test is that the pxg ball is considerably louder like a top flite surlyn ball but other than that your test is very subjective.
The only true way to test the two balls is by using a trackman monitor and an iron byron swing machine. I enjoy your videos a great deal and I especially liked your Stealth 2 evaluation. I’ll withhold judgement on the pxg balls until I have a chance to play one.

Old video to comment on, but I'm almost positive they're Kirklands. Both made in Vietnam, both have identical letters stamped on a few of the dimples, and both sound absolutely IDENTICAL. I just got a dozen for free after doing a PXG fitting, and thought it looked familiar until I pulled out one of my Kirkland balls. I'm convinced they're nearly identical, and wouldn't be surprised if the only differences are the printing on the outside and the color of the core.

While im no PXG fan, I think this ball isnt marketed to those that can hit the ball long. Yes, it says on the box that it is longer than a ProV1, but I think swing speed is a bit of a factor here and most that get this ball, will be hitting it at a lower swing speed which maaaaay take off some of the spin rate meaning it may go a little longer for some folks. It seemed others agreed: a number of guys teeing up pink flying lady's back in the day as a means to get away from putting an apparent brick in a casual round. Found a home with the professional 100, which got dropped for the proV1 [which was good also] - I'd still grab pro100 if they made them though. Durability? If I get more than 3 rounds from the same ball its unusual enough to just not worry about it.,
