Really? I had no idea Cathy was literally making it up there. That just makes my already sky-high level of respect for her even higher. (no seriously, in 2011, I didn't care Tara Strong was in this show; the presence of Cathy Weseluck and Tabitha St.Germain is what got my attention)

Woah, two years?! I knew that this episode was in the works for a while but to waste that much planning on a Spike episode, particularly one containing an event as monumental as pony olympics, is ridiculous.

It seems to me that every time he has an episode he has to forget lessons he has already learned in order for the episode to work. The show suffers from bad story telling and it makes me sad.

Uh... no. The overarching problem with Spike episodes is that he's Randomly given flaws he didn't previously have to make the episode work.
You could say that about a lot of episodes where particular characters get to shine.

Essentially, a fool will think they're better than they actually are, and someone genuinely good thinks they're worse than they really are.

i feel like that episode the animators were like "haha, he practically saved the crystal heart." then they come to realize that spike needs some kind of another episode to himself. then this episode was born.
Okay, but at 0:18 Scootaloo actually literally flies! Okay, it's for a very short moment, but I'd call it flying! Why is no one talking about this? And the way her friends clap at her and how proud she looks!

I hate how the whole episode is about spike and his "problems" and not about the pony olympics that was hyped up for a while......
Eventually when we get to Molt Down, the major sin will be it being a good Spike episode. What a topsy turvy world the future has in store.

3:51 no, no they did not do the spell to the princesses, as proven by Twilight casting that fire spell to help Spike save face and causing the episode's main drama plot, which means the princesses could've help, but for some reason didn't think to.
That's an extra sin
The fire spell happened long before the security checkpoints. The anti-magic security was implemented for the competitions while the opening ceremonies had no need to be concerned about cheating. That was my understanding at least.
At 0:32, I believe I should speak my mind: The engineering pony who blueprinted the train station quite possibly could’ve thought, “Since this station is going to be used constantly by all the generous residents of Ponyville, there should always be at least one unicorn waiting on the balcony that’ll be willing to magically levitate somepony’s luggage.” However, if this indeed be true, it would show the spotty pretenses that shouldn’t be in the mind of said engineering pony while he or she is doing her job. Therefore, the pony who designed this train station should be fired.
Everyone seemed surprised by the plot to this episode when it came out, but it was made pretty care on all the previews that it was a Spike episode.
The main thing that saddened me was that it wasn't a key episode. I really thought Spike would find the last one.
Still I enjoyed Silver Quill's review of this, that english guy in that review was amazing!

Sure it does! There’s “tag with iceberg clouds”, “how badly can someone screw up a national anthem” and my personal favorite “sit back and let Spike do everything because this is supposed to be his episode”.

I'm definitely in the minority when i say i like this episode.
I like it okay but when Spike started singing I had to quit the episode and come back the next day to finish because the cringe was too strong for me.

I think the issue is that Spike is so much younger than the rest of the mane cast. The Mane Six are all adults who pretty much had their lives together, while Spike is still kind of a kid. They call him a BABY dragon in the first episode, after all. The mistakes Spike makes are pretty typical for someone his age.
Even the Young Six are older than he is. Look at how much farther Smolder was in development.
Unlike the decapitated pony, I didn't lose my head when I attended the Equestria Games and was forced to sit squarely on the dividing line that separates the alien blob creatures from the other ponies.

The part where Spike had to "sing" the anthem was so bad that I found myself being embarrassed for a fictional cartoon character. It seems like Hasbro makes Spike episodes just for the sake of filling some sort of quota that demands a certain number of episodes for each main character, which is why the other characters have to be powerless for Spike to be useful.

Loved it, as always! But I totally understand why they wouldn't cut stuff from the Spike song, after all, Meghan McCarthy improvised the lyrics while hearing the instrumentals for the first time. I think that deserves a sin off for her performance.

I actually have a theory as to why Spike is praised. Cadence told everyone Spike had a major role in saving the empire to boost his self esteem

In the latest Spike episode the other characters were represented quite well I feel even though Spike was made to look good.

HUGE sin: Spike got all credit for no reason despite all the hard work the other characters had done and the roles they've played. Like Twilight, she did most of it. First of all, Twilight figured out where the heart was, found the hidden passage to it, made her way up to the top in lights speed with her up-side-down magic, and Twilight passing the burden over to Spike was her idea, and Spike only ran a small distance over to a ledge and then fell. Shining Armor saves him AND the heart, then Cadance flew over there, caught them, and brought the heart to where it needed to go. Spike is NOTHING compared to that and doesn't deserve to be the "Hero of the Crystal Empire."

I really just want an episode where Spike looks back on his life and remembers all the times he’s been neglected and abused by the characters. Wether it’s being slammed across a room by a door, his feelings rejected or ignored or something else it happens a lot. I don’t want another Spike episode where everyone is dumber for his episode’s sake but I want him to remember all those times and think of how hypocritical his friends are; for all their talk of love and acceptance they torment him mercilessly. If this does happen I really want him to become a villain because of it and maybe open the eyes of the Mane 6 and force them to find another method to defeat him besides befriending him again. That’s just what I think.
