    You are my hero! I have a 10D that I had relegated to the back of the closet many years ago. I am just an amateur and used to love taking photos with this camera, but I drifted away from photography. The spark is back and I am trying to re-learn as much as I can (or more accurately learn thoroughly what I wasn't disciplined enough to learn when I was younger) and reallllly needed this video. Thank you so much :)

      Hi Kathy. Thanks for the kind words. Funny- I just pulled out my 10D and 30D to do some shooting for a new video now that Spring has rolled around. I still love my old 10D since there is no other sensor like it that produces such painterly images. Good luck with yours, and I'm sure you'll get back up to speed in a matter of hours.

    I received one of these cameras from my uncle for my birthday, and all the little buttons and dials are pretty intimidating after only shooting with my phone for a long time. Thank you for this basic overview of the controls.

    I have one that my wife uses. She has access to two L series lenses, a 50mm f1.4 and a 28-135mm f3.5-4.5 IS USM Macro.
    She's taken phenomenal photos from a camera that many 'pros' claim this camera has no place in 2020.

      Glad to hear it. The 10D is a remarkable camera, and it sounds like your wife is a talented photographer. Just goes to show that to get great shots it's not the camera but the person behind it.

      I have a second hand 20D, and it's just a very fine DSLR. The only two minor complaints are the not that great TFT screen and the limited buffer. But for 2004 that was not to shabby. And it's mainly the then rapid improvements in electronics which made leaps of improvements per generation in those details. But in the end, the 20D was and is a great workhorse. Its limitations are quite minor. Mainly the native ISO of 1600 and limited capabilities of the DIGIC II processor. But quite easily to work around it. And in the end... Limitations ignites sparks of creativity.

    Great pictures near the end at 7’30” mark ! Bravo .. shows it’s the photographer not the camera limitations. These old Canons still very creative. Thank you

      Hey, thanks! The Canon 10D is a real gem in my opinion. It's slow, but it slows you down shooting so you have to think about your shots a great deal more, which is a good thing. Thanks again for the kind words/

    I have owned the Canon 10d 20d 40d 50d 7d 7dii 6d 5d 5dii and 3 before moving over to Sony. The one camera I have kept is the Canon EOS 10D.
    Your right, there is something special about this camera. The film like images it produces and the colours are just magic. Paired up with the M42 helios 44-2 it blows your mind shooting woodland/forest in autumn.

    Good video about the 10d! I absolutely love mine, bought it when I did my photography degree in 2006/7 to learn with...fast forward 10+ years it is still working great.
    I have 5d's/7d's and 1d's for my paid work, with a miriade of good fast lenses...but there is something the 10d has that the fast modern cameras haven't got, yeah I wouldn't want to rely on it for a paid job, but wouldn't have any issues taking it.
    I tend to turn off the preview screen or just have it set up as the histogram for exposure. There is something special about those files, and I always look forward to seeing them on the computer, almost as exciting as when you had to wait for your film back, the files have that creamy/good grainy film'esque feel.
    I like my 10d so much, I have actually bought another one for £30 with a grip and X2 batteries, they are utter bargains for pure photography, and 6.3MP RAW files are very easy to work with, I have noticed prices of good ones ever so slightly increasing, I think people may have cottoned on, I hope not! :) Thanks for the video.

    About 16 years ago my second 35mm film camera was stolen (along with all lenses and bag). The 10D was the camera I was wanting to get to replace it, but was way out of my price range. I just purchased one off of eBay for under $25 and am currently learning dslr as I piece together some lenses and filters. Thank you for this video and I’ll be sure to check out your others on the 10D.

    • @jeffstefan3027
      @jeffstefan3027  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DeVallibus, sorry about having your camera stolen. It seems like you can never take your eyes off your gear or it's gone. Good price for your 10D and a decent lens for it is a Canon "nifty fifty" or a similar lens, such as a Yongnuo 50mm f/1.8, which runs for around $60. The Canon version runs $125. You may also be able to pick up one used. As you know from using a film camera, a 50mm lens is good for just about any shooting situation. Good luck!

    Just bought one today, coming from using a canon rp and an old film al1 I wanted to see what the classic digital photography would be like compared to the newest (sort of) features and the slow, pure film experience. Really excited to take the 10d out soon

    • @jeffstefan3027
      @jeffstefan3027  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will love this camera, especially coming from the film world as I did. There is nothing like it. It's old and you have to be patient, but the images it produces are unique. Good luck!

      @@jeffstefan3027 yup completely right, been a few days since it arrived and I love the way it has that film effect of slowing down the experience and it really does make the whole process more enriching and valuable. Though I do think there is a time and a place for the 10d, it will definitely get a lot more use than my other cameras.

    been interested in a good Canon DSLR. I now have it down to 2 options, One of these (10D,20D,20D o 40D) or a T2i(550d). Its so hard choosing between them. If I ever have enough money, I'd like to have one of the older XXD's as well as the T2i, and use each for the roles in which they have an advantage.
    One thing I have observed is that there is a huge difference between the quality of photos taken with the same camera, by different users, on TH-cam. Maybe not the same lens, which may be responsible for the varying results.
    I have watched this and another video on TH-cam where the 10D yielded stunning magazine quality images, and in other photos, you see so much noise when used by others.
    Jeff Stefan, I am torn between the aesthetic and charm of the older XXD models and the stats and features of the T2i. My cameras tend to be keepsakes, I never sell them. kinda nostalgic cos of the history behind each acquisition. All of them are well kept and operate like new. What would you advise, which of the XXD's shoudl I get or do I just buy a T2i?

    • @jeffstefan3027
      @jeffstefan3027  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay1, I always keep my cameras also and never sell them. If you're looking for a more rugged camera, maybe opt for a 40D. I don't have one but it's an upgrade to the 30D and I've seen them going for (body only) for $123.50 on keh.com. I've purchased several used cameras from them and they have been first rate, but B&H and Adorama are also good.
      If you're looking for megapixels, then the T2i is a good choice. I like them better than the later T-series with articulated displays.
      As far as picture quality, it's mostly in the lens and not the camera. The money you save on an older camera body can be used on a better lens. I remember when I bought my first really good lens- a Canon 85mm, and was stunned by the results.
      Just really think about how and what you shoot. That should guide you in your choice of cameras. The good news is that no matter what you choose you will get a good camera.

    • @okay1904
      @okay1904 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffstefan3027 Thanks. Will focus on investing in better lenses, which are pretty much valuable for a lifetime., and make do with older bodies. Thanks for this strategy.

    • @jeffstefan3027
      @jeffstefan3027  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Marcello. Thank you for the kind comments. I used a Canon 35mm F1/8 lens. The lens is a little on the expensive side. If you're looking for a really good inexpensive lens for a 10D (or any other Canon with an EF mount) I recommend a Canon 50mm f/1.8 "nifty fifty" lens. They run $125 U.S. and work really well. I have one and shoot with it all the time. You cannot go wrong with the nifty fifty.

      Hi Philip. I bought a cheap memory reader from Amazon that costs around $10. I take the compact flash card out of the camera and use that to import pictures into my PC. That's the easiest way to go in my opinion. Good luck with your 10D.
