This is the best video I came across about showing the markings. Also, I never came across a video showing the cams locking places on the other side. Well done. 5 stars.
I did this job like 5 times and never knew this trick with the allen wrenches holding the cams in place. I struggled SOOO much with one or the other slipping 😅
Thanks man been stressing cause I messed up my timing like a week ago. Thought I’d either have to pay a couple grand for a mechanic or just junk the car.
@PapaBearXD How did u end up messing up the timing ( if u dnt mind me asking) Was timing just off a tooth or 2 or did the chain end up jumping a tooth m, just curious ??
@@FinessedIt I had a broken chain tensioner, and didn’t know it, and as I was turning the gears, the chain started skipping and messed up my timing. It ended up being off my leg four or five teeth. I tried to get it to realign as close as possible, and I also did some research and it seems like as long as your valve timing isn’t off your good the gear alignment does it seem to affect anything been driving for a week now with no problems
You missed a very important point,in k24 the mark/dot on vtc gears will be between the chain links and in k20s the mark/dot will be under the cahin link.also in k24 there would be 8 chain links between the dots.in k20 there would be 7 And you do not need to check TDC in this method when you can see crank pulley timing mark.that method is necessary when you cant see that mark, for example while only changing the cams, you have not removed the timing chain cover
Can somebody please explain to me the doos and don'ts of rotating the cams? My logic tells me that you rotate the crank with the old chain on until its lined up, and then you take the chain off, and rotate a cam if it is off timing. When it comes to rotating the cams on a k24, can I do it clockwise and counterclockwise? Is there a limit to how much I should turn it? My intake cam is off my a couple gears and I should only have to turn it counterclockwise maybe 10 degrees.. is this ok? Should I be able to do this? Also is there a limit to how much one should crank the engine manually? Could I end up messing up the crank sensor? And lastly is there i limit to how much I can turn the cams clockwise individually?
Can you use the dowell pins in the cams to hold the motor so you can loosen the crank pulley bolt?? My electric impact isn't strong enough so need to use a pry bar. But need the motor locked up before it will work.
nice video. I am doing one this weekend on a 2.4 because of the P0341 code. I am going to check the timing marks first but I am certain the chain is worn. What size Allen keys did you use in the rear? I was thinking of using bolts.
Hey man so I did all this and everything lines up but when I turn the motor my chain tensioner gets too tight and my chains get stuck.. and my motor won’t crank any further. Won’t even make 1 full revolution. Any ideas what might be the problem?
I have 2 of them in. Also question which way do you crank the motor by hand? Counter clockwise or clockwise. Because whenever I crank it I hear it click and my chain tensioner just gets tighter and tighter
I have a ? Every time i get all the timing marks lined up guides all tight i spin the engine around i cant seem to get the marks to line up again.I make sure its TDC i even put allen wrench in cam holes to lock the cams.I even double check everything and they never line back up again. How many complete turns is it on the cam gears before i would see my marks again? What im i doing wrong.I thought i had it 3 or 4 times now. Please help
No more than once but how many rotations does it take ? I make sure its TDC and all my marks line up before i start to confirm my marks again they never line back up to where i started. Thanks for any help
Dave Benoit it will take several rotations in order to go back to the original marks. It happened the same to me when I changed my first ever cambelt. It was driving me nuts because I thought I was doing something wrong. Eric the car guy has a video explains that. I think it is called chain guessing so the chain or belt takes a few rotations in order to go back to the original marks and not to wear out in the same spot. It will wear out evenly.

after adjustment of my valves... n throttle body cleaning.... My engine mow idles at engine timing value of zero... it used to be between 15 n 20... what could be the cause of this retarded timing... engine is k24

Best video so far on k24 timinng chains and marks, simplified and quick explanations, saved me a headache! Thanks so much, Godbless!!
Thanks for your video of how to align those timing marks
Glad it helped and thanks for watching

Thanks bud for the info i ended up having a bent valve...I replaced the engine,,,The old engine had 192k... The new one has 45K
Dave Benoit I've struggled with that myself before.
Excelente video muy bien explicado
Does it have to be on the compression stroke to time it?
It's best recommended yes

Before starting the car is it needed to delete the engine code? Or just start it. Thanks
If you had a code on I'd delete the code first.

There is no limit to turning the cams. That will not effect anything as long as you line them up with the rest of the engine marks.
@@ZackZweifel okay thank you

If the timing chain and everything is still connected it should be strong enough yes.
Gonna end up with something bent or broken
Hey question for you...can i run a k24a2 head in a k24a8 block without tsx pistons

do you have to turn the motor? I time the motor but I don't know why the marks on the chain move.. should I just start it once the marks are lined up?
If when you put it on all of the Marks shown line up you should be good to go.
How it go did it work for you?
@@frankydaisukegiron9168 runs like a charm. The marks will not Line up after u turn the motor. Just match up the marks!

The engine will have to rotate im guessing 15 or more revolutions but i cant exactly remember but i know the marks will align up again .
Great video thank
How did you time your oil pump chain ?
It's for the stock k24 oil pump, if you upgrade to a k20 oil pump or have a k20, no need to time that.
is your machine K20 or K24 ?
This one is a K24A2
Can i do my chain replacement without removing the engine? how difficult?
You can indeed and I have done it before. Definitely not the easiest and most fun cause it's a very tight fit but its possible
So good
What size Allen
honesty there was no specific size, just whatever i grabbed that had fit in the hole.

From what I see that means you are either to advanced or off by a tooth or your VTC isn't working properly
