Wow, this scene definitely would have been a heartbreaking cut to find out about, had they released Ghostbusters 3 in 1997, like Dan Aykroyd originally wanted. Imagine this stayed in the movie, and then GB3 had come out, and they had a call back to the dog that predicted the end of the world. That would have been amazing XD
So glad to finally see these scenes!!! Been looking forever but they seemed to have been lost even though I knew they were shot and there’s stills!!! Love the main crew in the ward, Winston’s call back to the book he’s been reading…by the guy on Peter’s show at the beginning! There’s a subtle call out to Eugene that made it into the film even tho he was cut, canabal girls is showing in the theatre during the freak out montage, featuring EUGENE LEVY! Also, must have been a blow for him to be cut out entirely from a GB film at that point in his career, but as we all know he persevered and went on to amazing things in cinema. Amazing clips, thank you!!!!

The 4K has an alternate scene for Peter's show where they DO NOT talk about the end of the world stuff. It seems like that scene was rewritten after they dumped the psych ward scenes, so they could get in a reference to the end of the world coming.
This scene was in a comic adaptation I had as a kid, didnt see the movie until VHS, and when I talked about these scenes with friends who did see it, they thought I was mental, like the part with ray bugging out after Vigo hypnotises him when scanning the painting
Amazing to still be finding 'new' footage cut from GB2 😁 this movie was and still is my favourite GB movie, this movie doesn't get the love it should, imo it is brilliant for different reasons, great storyline, great effects, great character interaction, great soundtrack, new look uniforms, Slime Blowers, giga meter and not forgetting my favourite Ecto (1A)
Ghostbusters II is my all time favorite movie. I would pay good money to see the deleted scenes recreated and the original vision restored. Especially scenes like Ray's possession outburst that ends with Winston punching him, or the sewer fight with that nasty looking frog ghost. There where some incredible scenes that never made it. @@SQUIDWORD15 It takes some half a chapter but I'll try and be brief: after the GB get back into business they go on a number of busts shown in the montage scene. One of these takes place at the World Trade Centre where a manager in his office keeps finding stuff being set on fire. After some investigating it's found the office guys angriness is causing combustion (he sets his desk on fire accidently because he's yelling on his phone). Ray punches the man out so he not only stops causing fires but so they can take him back to HQ for diagnosis after he refuses to go along with them. As they leave, the story pans to a pipe hidden out of view showing pink slime oozing out, indicating the presence of the slime was what was triggering the guy to have the power to make those combustion issues happen. It's possible they filmed it since everything else shown in the book during that bit is shown in the montage scene.

The finished movie suggests that the Busters were released from the psych ward under the orders of the Mayor, not from Louis "pulling some strings"- maybe the scene in the Mayor's office was shot after they dropped the Sherman scenes, which makes sense as Jack Hardemeyer is by the Mayor's side in other deleted scenes, after he was fired. So that sky shot was originally meant to be from Sherman's point of view then, and not the Mayor's? Fascinating to learn new stuff about a movie I've watched to death ;)

Yeah this scene while cool for hardcore GB fans and SCTV/Eugene Levy/Tully fans, it takes up a lot of screen time overexplaining something that in reshoots was aptly summarized in seconds (and helped tie up the Hardemeyer subplot by removing his influence).
It is a watershed moment when we are presented with ''new'' deleted scenes from our favorite flicks growing up. I have never seen this until today! But I gotta say I didn't enjoyed watching Levy making such a scrawny voice, it just doesn't suit him (even if his character was Louis' cousin). But Venkman cursing the other lunatic about poodles predicting the end of the world is simply gold! And for once, Stantz and Spengler being the most level-headed people in a situation (excluding Zeddemore, of course).

Eugene Levy is quite a character, loved him in "Splash" (1984) along with Tom Hanks, Daryll Hannah, and John Candy, but here as Sherman Tully, he's just being as big a jerk as Jack Hardemeyer, (the Mayor's aide).
Jack is a moron. Sherman would be funnier. Jack is the second antagonist so sherman wouldn't be as big as a jerk. + Sherman did free them, you can see in the EPK.
So weird to see Eugene in this deleted scene and remembering his name that was on a movie theater billboard in the montage sequence of the ghosts causing havoc.
Who made the genius decision to cut out a Eugene Levy scene from a movie? The guy can do comedy with his eyebrow. Also the angry doctor in the bacground is funny too.
Fans always complain about cut scenes and don't get that they weren't just cut out arbitrarily. They may work as scenes by themselves but in the movie they might affect pacing and add to the runtime but don't contribute enough to the narrative that can't be explained in a more succinct way otherwise. GB2 had a disastrous test screening where a lot of reshoots and editing were required.
I love Louis lowkey flipping his cousin off at 1:20 I'm not sure if that suppose to be him flipping him off as he fixed his glasses, but if it was, that was funny

Not the idiot who thought an alien ghost was a dog. That was different. No. We meant like, a stupid person who was too stupid to know that they were stupid because they were stupid. That's what we meant.

Peter and Dana were going out on a New Year's Eve date when they were all arrested and eventually sent to the mental hospital. It happened at night. This scene portrays as it as if it's the next day. I wonder if that's the reason why they cut it from the film. Otherwise, it was a great scene that should have been in the movie.
Thanks for the comment! On rewatch, I noticed Peter and Dana's date actually takes place on the night before new years eve (when Ray, Egon, and Winston check out the tunnel and later crash the date and get them as well as Peter arrested). I presume the scene was mainly cut for pacing reasons.

This would mean that Dana and Oscar got kidnapped on December 30th and essentially on the morning of December 31st there was pink slime covering the museum.
@@adaonetube Yes its all very confusing, the whole Flip City montage takes place late at night on the 30th and progresses into early the next day as you can see by an establishing shot before the scene where the mayor fires Jack Hardemeyer. Since a later scene where Jack dies after being absorbed by slime in front of the museum was cut (which also had Ray saying the "tenth level of hell" line instead of the mayor), the filmmakers decided to patch it up by having Hardemeyer get fired and the morning sky get eclipsed so the other night scenes they shot could progress as normal. The film's production was really a mess so everything is kind of jumbled and out of order.

The whole Dana and Peter romance was taking up too much time and less Ghostbusting and was trimmed down. The whole Louis, Janine and Slimer subplot was cut. The climax with Vigo was very quick. The Ghostbusters burst into the museum and bust Vigo and the credits rolled LOL! That was changed! The scene in the post credits where the Ghostbusters get the key to the city on Liberty Island is part of the original ending. 👻🚫🎥🎬

I'm glad the Sherman Tully scene was deleted. Eugene Levy is funny, loved him in Stay Tuned (1992), but here he's just doing a Lous Tully impression, and it shows. Without his scene, it's the mayor who releases them and Louis brings them the Ecto-1A.
Idk I think they should have left because it made Louis's character progression make more sense. You can tell he felt awful that Oscar was kidnapped and that's why he helped. It wasn't just because he wanted to be the fifth ghostbuster.
I NEVER understand why director's film these scenes and don't bother putting them in the movie. It's a complete waste of time and talent. Hope the actor's get paid extra.

When Dana Barrett goes to the museum to get Oscar back the camera is focused on this wall. You hear Dana get closer and she passes right past it when suddenly some slime comes oozing out of the wall. Dana stops slowly turns around. The slime sucks itself back before it's seen. Dana continues walking. This time the camera is focused on the ceiling. Dana gets closer and closer and closer. After she passed more slime comes oozing out. Again Dana stops, but this time she sees the slime as it sucks itself back.

Pacing reasons. John Candy wanted to play Rick Moranis' role with a German accent and bunch of dogs. That would have been something.
If they get Rick Moranis for any future Ghostbusters films, it would be nice if they were able to get Eugene Levy back for a cameo too.
