Though Grooberson states that "there hasn't been a ghost sighting [since 1991]", I would like to think he was referring to ghost sightings occurring in Oklahoma, or at least in Summerville. Jason Reitman states in Ghostbusters: Afterlife- The Art & Making of the Movie that "if you had been born in the early 2000s, you probably don't even know about [the Ghostbusters], or maybe you've just heard briefly about it." The Ghostbusters Wiki lists Egon's departure from the Ghostbusters as having taken place during the 2000s and his phone call with Ray taking place during the 2010s. In the 2009 video game, Ray claims that Gozer is only able to create one Destructor Form per dimension, with Stay Puft being the only form they can assume when in the Ghostbusters' dimension. I believe that when the ghosts of Gozer's cultists used the Mandala to initiate Gozer's return, they only summoned the piece of Gozer's essence that enabled them to assume a Destructor form. This explains why Gozer appeared weaker in the 2009 video game and why they manifested in their true form instead of Stay Puft in Afterlife. Lastly, around the time of his "death", Ivo Shandor found a means of splitting his essence into two. This would explain how Shandor can appear as both a ghost in the 2009 video game and a human in Afterlife. I would also think that these halves would not share the same memories, as the Shandor seen in Afterlife remained loyal to Gozer whereas the Shandor seen in the 2009 video game schemed to become a god.

Damn this suggestion came out of nowhere. But now it's got me thinking about the Ghostbusters Videogame that was remastered for PS4. That was such a fun, well-written and well-designed game. As a GB fan, it had me smiling all throughout the game. It truly is a fan service and every GB fan needs to buy or play it. I'm happy it got done while all the real OG Ghostbusters were still alive. I'm 35 and my favourite movie has always been Ghostbusters 2, I watched it every single day after school for years, I had worn out two tapes! I still watch it about 10 times a year, I don't know what it is about the second movie that I prefer over the first one. I really appreciate your videos because I don't feel alone in caring about the second film which for some reason is detested.
You're not alone! I wasn't obsessed with GB2, but I always considered it a worthy sequel. My favourite scene is them exploring the sewer and seeing the ghost train! I think people just feel that the first film was near perfect and set an impossibly high standard in their minds. Which is understandable, because it was an instant classic.
I wouldn't say I prefer it, but I absolutely love the second film. I was lucky enough to see it in the theater when I was 7 or 8. I agree that it doesn't get nearly enough love.
It's not actually detested. There's a sort of snobbish internet pop culture group-think that decides what movies "suck" and they're adding new titles all the time. The paradigm is "It's amazing" or "it's awful...worst movie ever"
It's as simple as the premise is awful, the Ghostbusters would be recruited by the department of homeland security or some shit because of what happened in New York, it literally doesn't make sense for them to be pegged as the fall guys. In fact it might just have nuked the EPA in this timeline (the best timeline btw), unless of course the head of the EPA knew where the bodies are buried.

I'll hypothesize that before he was executed by his subjects, Vigo himself hid the portrait or it was smuggled out of his country by loyalists. Like the Maltese Falcon, it went through many owners, traveling the world for 379 years until it wound up in NYC where it was sold into Dr. Poha's Romance Exhibition. Vigo's spirit may have been able to influence those who had possession of the painting and when he sensed the immense energy of the mood slime beneath NYC, he wound up in a spot where he could draw it towards him and slowly return.

It has always been "Dark Room" as they are not pitch black dark except for when undeveloped film or undeveloped color photo paper is out, which is not too often, especially since they were using an automated photo processor that keeps the light sensitive paper in a light proof container inside the machine.
Can you guys do an Ecto 1 and Ecto 1A Video. In this video you mention they upgraded Ecto1, but in the novelization ofGB2 it states they bought a new ambulance. Which is also conflicts with Afterlife since Ray said Egon took Ecto 1 with him. I know that Ivan Reitman said that Ecto 1A was a new car; and they used an ECTO 2 plate on which you could briefly see when the guy pull up at Venkman's place to get him to go see the river of slime. Production later changed the plate from Ecto 2 to 1A cause they didn't want kids getting confused with Ecto 2 from the real ghostbusters. I would be interested in a video like this.
I literally had to pause the video when you mentioned that the twins who played Oscar were born on April 29th 1988 the reason why was because their birth was literally 1 day after and 11 years before when I was born on April 28th 1999. I personally found that to be pretty cool.
My head-canon is 1) the 1984 ghosts, save Slimer, were absorbed into 55CPW (support--they're all drawn to the building) to bring Gozer into the world, never to be seen again. 2) Between the two movies, RGB exists as a Filmation show in-universe. Ray and Winston are doing parties because the show ended after 65 episodes and the money ran out (Venkman, true to form, didn't exactly negotiate in GBINC's best interests.)
Having the ghostbusters get sued into oblivion is like a mild prototype of bad ideas like having Han and Leia get divorced and Luke go homeless on an island milking. It was very tone deaf considering Real Ghostbusters was very well written for what turned out to be the primary fan base.
Well, that's exactly what would've happened. Someone would have to take the fall and financial responsibility for all the damage, and they're an easy target.
That's different though because Star Wars is a fantasy film where a happy ending and basic through lines can be expected. What made Ghostbusters so good was the low tech aspect of it - the human. Harold Ramis himself said this. While it would've been fun to have the Ghostbusters entirely in action, it would've missed the point. The busting we see is like an appetizer... Or dressing... Or icing on the cake.... Augh enough food references. It was a realistic and also necessary development to keep the story grounded, and create the conflict for the second film, while simultaneously saving the action / compilations for better pacing rather than making that the film.
So most people forget the 1991 Sega Genesis game. It takes place after 1 and has an original plot, which ends with them accidentally causing a massive earthquake and another ghost attack on the city. I always feel this fit, as they mention money is tight (which explains the lack of Winston) as well as why they got banned.
Great video! You cited both an original script and a novelization in some of your evidence. In both the early script and novelization of GB2 the ECTO-1A is a new/separate car from the ECTO-1. I just curious what your source was that said the 1A was just upgraded ECTO-1?
I don't recall any early drafts or the GB2 novelization stating it was a different car. It was originally called "Ecto-2" which was possibly renamed as to not get confused with the RGB's Ecto-2. As for proof that 1A was an upgrade of the original, you'll just have to wait for future videos. Stay tuned!

Each major villain from Gozer, Vigo, and now Garraka seem to embolden ghost activities with their powers or seem to be the ones causing openings or portals for more ghost activity pour out and occur. In Extreme Ghostbusters, after defeating Achira, many more ghosts somehow entered the human realm from her tomb in the tunnels where she resided.
Had a fun time with my six year old. It's no cinema masterpiece but nice popcorn movie that we older folks can appreciate for the nostalgia and younger kids enjoy as well
As far as I know, the Real Ghostbusters were…the real Ghostbusters, and the movie was a movie based on them which was also in their universe. There’s an episode where they act as consultants for the movie and go to the premier. There is a video about it somewhere.
They didn't upgrade Ecto-1. It was an entirely different vehicle, as the base model is different. This is further confirmed, as the original Ecto-1 was seen in Afterlife, with no such modifications, nor any evidence that it once had them.

I think the boys just let's Slimer hang with them freely cause at times he is useful. Plus in the real ghostbusters venkman is always threatening too capture the spud but never does.
After a recent viewing, I realized this movie's timeline is very compact. A few days to a week comprise Dana's buggy incident to the boys trapping the Scoleri Brothers. Then a month and a half long back in business boom. Here's where things get tight: two days before New Years Eve the GB's watch the toaster dance, and that day ends with Peter "putting down" Oscar. The day before New Years Eve, the GB's do their routine spook check at the museum and then at midnight the slime river overflows causing chaos into the morning of New Years Eve. On the last day, the eclipse happens and the rest is history. Side note: after the dark room incident confirmed Vigo was indeed supernatural and connected to the mood slime, why go looking for the slime river? They should have geared up and gone straight to the museum. I know it's a movie but that would have been the next logical step.
The con that my younger self still can't forgive these films for concerns Dana's backstory: They would have us believe that a concert cellist can afford to rent a corner penthouse on Central Park West! And to top that, apparently she can just casually moonlight as a restorer of important paintings at the MET - a job with few openings and intense competition, even when you have multiple PhDs and advanced technical diplomas.

What I've always wondered is wouldn't it have been quicker and easier to find a child from someone who isn't a friend of the Ghostbusters? Plus the Mayor knew what they had done for New York before so why did he not believe them the second time?
1: Janosz wasn't aware of the Dana/GB connection; the child was just a happy bonus to his perving. 2: The slime's bad juju affects his and everyone's judgment. Like when you're trying to put some IKEA furniture together and you're getting irritable 'cause you can't tell a mügenfløögen from a sprüügenfløögen, and you're färfrumüvin on this blasted Swedish thing, and it's making you not see or think straight.
Lenny seems spiritual so I think he never stopped believing but after the GB's became scapegoats for what happened in '84, people like Hardemeyer kept advising him to stay away from their bad image given his bid or governor. Like many New Yorkers, he too may have been succumbing the mood slime's negative feedback loop. But after spending some time with an actual ghost, there was no more tapdancing around the facts. The GB's were back in business and he saw them as a last resort, which paid off. The fact that he was furious at Hardemeyer for committing them and even firing him for it, shows he never hated them, just wasn't keen on surrendering the fate of the city to private contractors.
19:24 actually they didn't need to go through the Streets of New York..... the Museum was right next to the Water and Ellis Island where the Statue of Liberty is..... all they had to do was go across the Water and would have been right there..... they took a Detour going through Downtown 1st....
That's a good point... I think the building in the film is a museum for American Indian artifacts, not 19th-century European paintings. I'd always assumed the location was meant to be the MET, which would explain the trek through midtown. Alternately, since their goal was to gee up good feeling across Manhattan in order to weaken the slime dome, perhaps that was the reason for all the showboating.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game (originally released on PlayStation 3 but remastered maybe 2 years ago for PlayStation 4) DEFINITELY fits in and is canon. There's so many references from the first two films; it has the entire original cast, even the guy who voiced Vigo The Carpathian, and it was written by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. Any true Ghostbusters fanboy will seriously enjoy that video game because it is so faithful to the films (and an unlike most movie-based video games, it is actually a well-designed game that is fun to play)
Well what I wanna know is after watching after life who is Egon’s former wife for a minute there I thought it was Janine but that wouldn’t make sense because Callie and Janine never really knew each other!! And I want to know if and when Egon actually got a wife and had Callie I would like to say it’s between 1984 in 1989 because his daughter is obviously in her mid 30’s!!
I want to know when Egon had a daughter? Was it before the first movie? Between the two? She has a 15 year old son, so he would have been born in 2006. If she was born in 1985, after the first movie, she'd be 36 in 2021, and would have been 21 when she had her son. Seems a bit young, but not unheard of. Janine's not her mom, so either Egon had a hook-up before the first movie, or just after it which is never mentioned in the second.
Ah, yes... Slimer, the ghost of the Sedgwick Hotel. Literally. All though rich people with empty lives, showing up to forget how hollow they are by drinking and eating. All that PKE coalescing into Slimer.
One thing I'd like to see in a new film is some deep fake photos from the 90's and 2000's of the original cast busting ghosts. They could use unseen real photos of the actors when they were younger and composite them onto bodies wearing the OG jumpsuits, with other photoshop trickery to make it look like old magazine photos of the Ghostbusters on different adventures, before Egon left. They could also film the Ecto from GB2, but with a newly installed gunner seat, and film some footage of them speeding through the city, and then alter the footage to make it look like old 90's VHS quality. I liked Afterlife and thought it was pretty good, flaws aside, but I hated that none of this ^ was included in the film.
Fun Fact: Louis Tully AKA Actor Rick Moranis is also Lord Helmet in Space Balls the movie and The scientist father of the fictional Szalinski family in three movies: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid & Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves!

What made Ghostbusters so good was the low tech aspect of it - the human. Harold Ramis himself said this.
While it would've been fun to have the Ghostbusters entirely in action, it would've missed the point. The busting we see is like an appetizer... Or dressing... Or icing on the cake.... Augh enough food references.
It was a realistic and also necessary development to keep the story grounded, and create the conflict for the second film, while simultaneously saving the action / compilations for better pacing rather than making that the film.

So most people forget the 1991 Sega Genesis game. It takes place after 1 and has an original plot, which ends with them accidentally causing a massive earthquake and another ghost attack on the city. I always feel this fit, as they mention money is tight (which explains the lack of Winston) as well as why they got banned.

You cited both an original script and a novelization in some of your evidence. In both the early script and novelization of GB2 the ECTO-1A is a new/separate car from the ECTO-1. I just curious what your source was that said the 1A was just upgraded ECTO-1?
I don't recall any early drafts or the GB2 novelization stating it was a different car. It was originally called "Ecto-2" which was possibly renamed as to not get confused with the RGB's Ecto-2. As for proof that 1A was an upgrade of the original, you'll just have to wait for future videos. Stay tuned!

Each major villain from Gozer, Vigo, and now Garraka seem to embolden ghost activities with their powers or seem to be the ones causing openings or portals for more ghost activity pour out and occur. In Extreme Ghostbusters, after defeating Achira, many more ghosts somehow entered the human realm from her tomb in the tunnels where she resided.
Great stuff I'd love to see a back story for the library ghost yeah we get bits of it in the game something a bit more in-depth

As far as I know, the Real Ghostbusters were…the real Ghostbusters, and the movie was a movie based on them which was also in their universe. There’s an episode where they act as consultants for the movie and go to the premier. There is a video about it somewhere.
In the animated timeline, business continued from 1984 all the way to 1991, which included battling Vigo. The XGB's took over in 1997.
They didn't upgrade Ecto-1. It was an entirely different vehicle, as the base model is different. This is further confirmed, as the original Ecto-1 was seen in Afterlife, with no such modifications, nor any evidence that it once had them.

I think the boys just let's Slimer hang with them freely cause at times he is useful. Plus in the real ghostbusters venkman is always threatening too capture the spud but never does.

Comedic genius
After a recent viewing, I realized this movie's timeline is very compact. A few days to a week comprise Dana's buggy incident to the boys trapping the Scoleri Brothers. Then a month and a half long back in business boom. Here's where things get tight: two days before New Years Eve the GB's watch the toaster dance, and that day ends with Peter "putting down" Oscar. The day before New Years Eve, the GB's do their routine spook check at the museum and then at midnight the slime river overflows causing chaos into the morning of New Years Eve. On the last day, the eclipse happens and the rest is history.
Side note: after the dark room incident confirmed Vigo was indeed supernatural and connected to the mood slime, why go looking for the slime river? They should have geared up and gone straight to the museum. I know it's a movie but that would have been the next logical step.
Kinda funny that the twerp talking smack to GBs at the beginning of this video directed GB Afterlife and Frozen Empire😅

What I've always wondered is wouldn't it have been quicker and easier to find a child from someone who isn't a friend of the Ghostbusters? Plus the Mayor knew what they had done for New York before so why did he not believe them the second time?
1: Janosz wasn't aware of the Dana/GB connection; the child was just a happy bonus to his perving.
2: The slime's bad juju affects his and everyone's judgment. Like when you're trying to put some IKEA furniture together and you're getting irritable 'cause you can't tell a mügenfløögen from a sprüügenfløögen, and you're färfrumüvin on this blasted Swedish thing, and it's making you not see or think straight.
Lenny seems spiritual so I think he never stopped believing but after the GB's became scapegoats for what happened in '84, people like Hardemeyer kept advising him to stay away from their bad image given his bid or governor. Like many New Yorkers, he too may have been succumbing the mood slime's negative feedback loop. But after spending some time with an actual ghost, there was no more tapdancing around the facts. The GB's were back in business and he saw them as a last resort, which paid off. The fact that he was furious at Hardemeyer for committing them and even firing him for it, shows he never hated them, just wasn't keen on surrendering the fate of the city to private contractors.

19:24 actually they didn't need to go through the Streets of New York..... the Museum was right next to the Water and Ellis Island where the Statue of Liberty is..... all they had to do was go across the Water and would have been right there..... they took a Detour going through Downtown 1st....
That's a good point... I think the building in the film is a museum for American Indian artifacts, not 19th-century European paintings. I'd always assumed the location was meant to be the MET, which would explain the trek through midtown. Alternately, since their goal was to gee up good feeling across Manhattan in order to weaken the slime dome, perhaps that was the reason for all the showboating.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game (originally released on PlayStation 3 but remastered maybe 2 years ago for PlayStation 4) DEFINITELY fits in and is canon. There's so many references from the first two films; it has the entire original cast, even the guy who voiced Vigo The Carpathian, and it was written by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. Any true Ghostbusters fanboy will seriously enjoy that video game because it is so faithful to the films (and an unlike most movie-based video games, it is actually a well-designed game that is fun to play)
Well what I wanna know is after watching after life who is Egon’s former wife for a minute there I thought it was Janine but that wouldn’t make sense because Callie and Janine never really knew each other!! And I want to know if and when Egon actually got a wife and had Callie I would like to say it’s between 1984 in 1989 because his daughter is obviously in her mid 30’s!!

I want to know when Egon had a daughter? Was it before the first movie? Between the two? She has a 15 year old son, so he would have been born in 2006. If she was born in 1985, after the first movie, she'd be 36 in 2021, and would have been 21 when she had her son. Seems a bit young, but not unheard of. Janine's not her mom, so either Egon had a hook-up before the first movie, or just after it which is never mentioned in the second.

Ah, yes... Slimer, the ghost of the Sedgwick Hotel. Literally. All though rich people with empty lives, showing up to forget how hollow they are by drinking and eating. All that PKE coalescing into Slimer.
They wrote a really bad script and made Ghostbusters 2, that's pretty much what happened between 1 and 2
So that means the video game is right after Ghostbusters 2 what years before afterlife
One thing I'd like to see in a new film is some deep fake photos from the 90's and 2000's of the original cast busting ghosts. They could use unseen real photos of the actors when they were younger and composite them onto bodies wearing the OG jumpsuits, with other photoshop trickery to make it look like old magazine photos of the Ghostbusters on different adventures, before Egon left. They could also film the Ecto from GB2, but with a newly installed gunner seat, and film some footage of them speeding through the city, and then alter the footage to make it look like old 90's VHS quality.
I liked Afterlife and thought it was pretty good, flaws aside, but I hated that none of this ^ was included in the film.
In RGB lore the movie is actually based off the Real Ghostbusters not the other way around. And are 2 different universes.
