      I am very interested in these engines.
      Most of the ones that I see for sale are far away from southwest Tennessee and the sellers want local pick up.

      @@pibble3962 , don’t know what area you are in but “ Western Antique Iron Trader “ is a publication that has lots of engines and tractors for sale, mostly western US . Also “ Gas Engine Magazine “ is another great source. 😉 !

    Man this is a dynamite channel. I have been binge watching it today because it has been raining and storming all day. My hobby is restoring and resurrecting old machine shot machines like lathes mills and drills. Bringing them back to life and to precision is very satisfying to me. But it is also a very addictive hobby. I am always looking for more old machines to restore and make them create precision.

    I think when they were originally supplied to farmers, they did not have wheels, but were meant to be bolted directly to the workshop or granary floors. The showman's carts must have been added later to allow them to be transported to vintage fairs.

    • @Toesmack1
      @Toesmack1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Many of these engines had carts available from the factory for an additional fee. These were used for many different applications all over the farm. Cutting wood in the morning, grain grinding in the afternoon, and pumping water all night!

    If this fairbanks 3 hp has a starting tank as part of the carb you might try starting it using the starting tank and then switching over to the main. When you do leave the starting tank open just a 32nd of a turn. I've had two that worked that way.

    I hate to say it, but when I was a kid (over 50 years ago) at that time there were a few men in their 60's and 70's who collected and restored them. Over the years those people past on, and in some cases they were the first or second owners
    Now fewer and fewer people who actually used one on the farm, shop or at home are around.
    But it is fantastic to see a younger person interested in these early farm and industry work "horses", and trying yo keep them going.

    A battery charger generates a chopped DC (half wave) which is not the best for ignition power source. Best to use a battery.

    • @joligrunlaub3412
      @joligrunlaub3412 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Must be an old model you are using. In a modern charger you will find full bridge rectifiers. So there are both half waves. But you are right, to use a battery is better because of the peak power it can drive.

    My father and I restored a hit and miss engine when I was a teenager. He hands ME the crank to start it for the first time. As you demonstrated, the engine fires and the whirling crank hits me in the face, pushing my lower canine through my lip. Two stitches at the emergency room latter, we go back home and start the engine. I've since noticed that most old timers start their engines by grabbing the flywheel.

For example what business was it used for, Was it for a oil drill deep in the woods or a Mining company in the middle of nowhere on the side of a cliff? Was it for a farmer to keep production high or a manufacturing plant churning products for other businesses. Each of these motors help build modern day America and it would be cool if the history behind them was known and could be shared. It is great to see you preserving them and keeping them alive! I gotta serious question for you, and it concerns your dear lovely wife.
    I hope she doesn't read this, because it may actually start something that you may wish I had never found your channel.
    LOL
    She doesn't happen to say something to the effect of, she doesn't know if you're a collector, or a horder does she!!?😂
    Because I myself have been accused of that, and I take it as an acquisition instead of an honest question.
    My response is, that everything has it's place, and it's not piled head high in unruly piles, and you don't have to twist n turn down little paths to get through it all.
    So I was wondering if I'm the only one that has to listen to such things as that, are if there's more like myself out there somewhere in the world having to suffer through such things as that.
    Hopefully I'm not a horder, but I'm sure there's worse things in life to be.
