Awesome looking ship! Looks like an Ambassador mixed with an Excelsior class ship. I didn't realize the third season had begun! Got to catch up on episodes!
I love this ship design SO much. I never liked the design of the -D, I like a balanced mix of angles and curves. The original movie era refit nailed it for me, as did the Ambassador and Sovereign. This one has the same kind of balanced design aesthetic, for my taste.
The USS Titan is quite impressive in it's departure from the Spacedock. It reminded me of the NCC 1701-A's departure in Star Trek 6 - The Undiscovered Country. Yes she may be a bit smaller than the NCC1701-D and the E and F of the Galaxy, Sovereign and Odessey classes - a ship is still only as good as it's crew. There's no doubt that she did come up to the plate and helped to save Earth. The USS TITAN NCC 80102A really did so do.
Have they also updated the warp protocals? I recall it's prohibited to warp directly within a system, and they always had to impulse to the edge of a system before warping out barring emergencies?
@SpaceAce100 Picard is ending with Season 3 because Stewart wanted to retire his role as Picard. This is different from the cancellations of TOS and Enterprise, which were due to low Nielsen ratings.

Watched the TMP-Director's Cut again last weekend, *prominently* featuring her predecessor in all her glory. This Kitbash doesn't hold a candle. Love the Music, love the banter, this clip has some of that Old-School-Trek-feeling, which is always welcome, but I'll remain guarded. Season 2 _also_ *started* with a Trek-like Episode, after all.
At the start of production of Generations test footage was shot of the Nest Generation sets using the TV series lighting scheme on 35 mm film. What the producers found was that when the footage was projected on a theater sized screen you could see the grain of the plywood walls and the heads of the screws that held the set together. Something you couldn't see in a 480i NTSC broadcast on a 27-inch TV set. So, the lighting was turned down to hide those unwanted details. I'd imagine that the current Star Trek shows might be shooting dark because they are running into the same issues shooting with 4K cameras to be displayed on large screen televisions.
Oooooh!!! I have just fallen in Love❤️... U. S. S. Titan!!! Here I go again.. Loved the Next Generation in the 90's.. I must start all over again just to admire the sheer size and velocity of the the Titan.. It's colossal.. Massive.. Fitting for Picard.. Impressive doesn't even begin to describe the Titan...
Never get tired of a star trek beauty pass / space dock exit. Glorious. I hope when humans suss time travel they will bring one of these ships back so i can see it fly. 😎
We dream about this kind of technology. We make movies of it. Someday this will be real. It'll be as commonplace as launching a rocket from Earth. I've been a quasi-trekkie since September 8th, 1966 when Kirk, Spock, Mr. Scott and the entire cast step foot onto the Enterprise and with each evolution of Star Trek it just gets better and better. Hats off to Gene Roddenberry and all they went through to bring kids like me into the realm of dreaming about travel at warp speed.
At least they got Spacedock right. And the tip of the hat to James Horner and Jerry Goldsmith was keenly noticed. Don't care for the Enterprise I mean Titan though.
This was as close to perfect as any of Paramount Plus' "New-Trek" shows have ever gotten. They finally got the formula right. If I had one complaint, it was that Raffi was still somewhat whiny, but I suspect she'll get even better. Other than that, the cinematography, the acting, the humor, the visual effects - all perfect. And the music...I loved all the call-backs to both Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner. As Kirk himself put it in "Star Trek III," "To absent friends..."
I know it isn't befitting of the fiction but I wouldn't even be mad if the show creators renamed "Star Trek: Picard" to "Star Trek: The Next _Next_ Generation" after this episode. Goosebumps all the way through.
And again the impulse acceleration is so slow, even the 1/4 should be quite fast. Due to technical manual the impulse speed should be much faster from the ambassador class era.
SPOILER ALERT So far I love season 3 myself. Everything is the way I hoped. And some great Easter eggs too. Of course we can't have an interesting story line without a stiff no respect insulting jakazz you'd love to eject out the airlock into space, and this one just happens to be the new Captain. And OMG! The Jerry Goldsmith theme for ST The Motion Picture and TNG. Thank you writers you finally heard our cries.
From TWOK also. They listened to the complaints, as well they should. This scene alone helps me to forget about the last 2 seasons, and STD. "And there was much rejoicing."
@@TheBrainSquared totally get that, but this is why I hate the CBS era...as presented in canon from previous iterations (ST TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT) the military (even when starfleet was a more research based organization) decorum would have been most strictly adhered to. A good captain...as all properly trained captains would be, would and should not let their personal feelings subvert or cause acts of disrespect to rank (even retired admirals should be afforded such respect). In the Roddenberry/TNG universe, such disrespect by Captain Shaw would have been met with some type of dressing down, possibly even a very harsh reprimand from some higher up somewhere. Here in the CBS universe, he gets to say fuck you and go to his quarters to take a nap...
What a great scene, blending some nostalgia with the tease of a new series! I love the darker bridge, at least when leaving dock. SO much better than Abrams' light show crap.
I nearly teared up when Picard addressed Seven of Nine as Commander Hansen. I know it sounds stupid, but I found that very thrilling and I got goosebumps. I felt it was the next step towards her humanity.
Yep, you kinda missed the whole point there Her journey to her humanity includes her choosing the identity that she feels more comfortable in, a Starfleet captain not respecting that is also part of her journey as she learns about intolerance other humans can project at you as part of their own selfish ego.
Seven made it clear that she doesn't go by that name when she was on Voyager. The only time she felt comfortable about it was inside Unimatrix One. Maybe some people she'd allow to call her Annika, but Shaw is being a bit of a dick.
SHE HATES IT She is not Annika Hansen, Annika died the moment she got assimilated, the person that got saved by the Voyager is Seven, that is why she choose "Seven" as her name, not Annika. She says it herself in VOY.
@@nooneinparticular1491 True. It kinda seemed disrespectful to change it, in my opinion. The Titan legacy was fine on its own. A new class of ship would've been more practical for the flagship. It honestly makes me wonder if the Titan line ended at that point.

So many music arrangements to hear in that one clip alone, The motion picture being one of them, the wrath of khan, genesis planet, the undiscovered country, so much crammed in. I need to watch the blu ray I just purchased of this series.
I'm trying to come up with a timeline and from what I am picking up from this episode, through dialog and other observations, I am coming to the conclusion that we are 5-10 years from the events of Season 2, which was 2401. 1) Raffi's Granddaughter appears to be around 7 years old?? Her daughter in law was pregnant in Season 1 Freecloud. 2) Seven completed Starfleet Academy which is a 4 year program. I'm sure her rank was accelerated. 3) Shaw stated he was in command of Titan A for 5 years and he deleted Rikers music library when he took command. This tell me that following Season 1, Riker cane out of retirement was in command of Titan A, making Riker a 2 Ship Titan Captain. Also Picard said the line of "your old command". I originally thought namesake but I'm thinking as I started Riker Commanded 2 ships names Titan. I'm conclusion unlike seasons 1 and 2, all we know is we are somewhere in the 25th Century. Assuming Riker Commanded Titan-A from let's say a bit, and then Shaw has been in command for 5 years, also based on Raffi's Granddaughter age, I'm putting Picard Season 3 around 2407-2411. We are quite a bit in the future from last seasons.
This seems to be a very feasible plot. I also recalled from Season 1's finale that Picard's "new" body will allow him to live out his natural lifespan, which is estimated to be another 10 to 15 years. Assuming it is 2411, Picard has lived under this new body for approximately a decade and (sadly) he might be nearing the end of his natural life 😢
1) Raffis Granddaughter might be not the only granddaughter she has. The birth the her daughter from season 1 is about three years ago by the point of this episode here 2) Seven might have been given a commission without access to SFA, since she certainly had the knowledge and training of countless Starfleet officer due to her assimilating them. 3) It is possible that Shaw commanded the Luna-Class Titan before the ship had been basically completely disassembled and rebuild as the Titan-A. So I'd say we still can assume we are in 2403 or so. Although the Titan-A really pushes the limit regarding the whole Theseus ship situation (probably the reason she got a new designation after "refit").
The smile on Picard's face when Seven said "engage" was his silent approval and joy to see tradition being carried on.
Science fiction smiles 😅

After seeing his character a bit, it seems to fit that he’s not interested in appearances or niceties unless they’re functionally necessary
He seems to me like a lazy arrogant Bas#$rd. But that's just first impressions.
If only S01/02 were well written like this.
Agreed.
Brilliant music, somehow they have managed to combine the scores of the first, second, third and sixth movies properly and fit it in one scene.
Awesome scene! Seven of Nine in the captain's chair is a great thing to see.
Finally some good music! When was it actually decided that great orchestral scores no longer had any place in films?
This.. THIS... is Star Trek. Finally.... took them long enough. Fabulous
The music gave me goose bumps. It felt like coming back home.
Me too! They nailed it! Too bad this had to happen on the final season! Now I want more!!
Goosebumps, total throwback to Wrath Of Khan! She's such a mix of the 1701A and 1701D! Love it!
there's element of the 1701B as well in the secondary hull with how it bulges out away from the circular deflector. and the side profile of the same secondary hull swooping back with a concave arc... just like an excelsior class/1701B
IT is a nice ship indeed.
Awesome looking ship! Looks like an Ambassador mixed with an Excelsior class ship. I didn't realize the third season had begun! Got to catch up on episodes!
its more like a connie saucer with a new body. still a beautiful ship. loads better than the copy and paste inquiry class from season one.
@@kerosoldier Clearly you don't know your classes very well.
@@brantsemallory726 actually i do very well in fact
@brantsemallory726 It does look a bit like the classic Connie though
I love this ship design SO much. I never liked the design of the -D, I like a balanced mix of angles and curves. The original movie era refit nailed it for me, as did the Ambassador and Sovereign. This one has the same kind of balanced design aesthetic, for my taste.
Wow! Someone besides the Captain taking the ship out of space dock, how original!
I love that look on Picard's face when she uses his word.
Ah....so good to see the proper way of going to warp again.
Have they also updated the warp protocals? I recall it's prohibited to warp directly within a system, and they always had to impulse to the edge of a system before warping out barring emergencies?
Finally!!! People behaving NORMAL again in StarTrek, StarTrek is BACK! ❤
@SpaceAce100
Picard is ending with Season 3 because Stewart wanted to retire his role as Picard.
This is different from the cancellations of TOS and Enterprise, which were due to low Nielsen ratings.
@spaceace1006Eh, I dislike Star Trek Picard, but I'm pretty sure that they don't have a low budget.
@@Yaapo They seem to don't put the budget in the CGI. It's terrible. Even STD looks much better by similar bad story. So the question is, where does the money go?
@@OpenGL4ever Letting the whole TNG cast play allong, is not a cheap thing i gues.
There is something magical about good Star Trek... and this clip is good Star Trek.
The motion picture vibes were strong here.
I've been a star trek fan since I was 11yrs old,..I'm 60, and I've watched just about every episode, it's most........fascinating!!!!!
And most repetitive too.
Wish they would buy some ceiling lights for these new starship bridges… lol.
Side note: the sales of Retinax 5 injections have never been better
Perfect perfect perfect ❤❤❤❤ in every way !!!! Cannot be more excited about this season
I remember people complaining about the Bridge-Set in _Generations_ being lit too dimly. Which it was, compared to how it looked in TNG, that's true... but *this?*
Also, "Neo-Constitution-Class"?
🥰🥰🥰🥰 man I teared up watching this clip. This was a hats off to the wrath of khan. 💕🖖💕
What?
Thank you for uploading in the correct aspect ratio without black bars.
Star Trek Is….Finally….Back!!!
Hopefully they won't mess it up.
Never left
Always loved it but I must admit, this season lower decks and pikes show have been great
@@gdavis I won't watch the cartoons. They look silly and childish.
@@tech83studio38 Yes it did lmao
Whoever created the character 7 of 9 and whoever cast Jeri Ryan in the role ...I freakin love you
There need to be more lights on the set. Other than that : Brillant!
That Ship is GEORGEOUS
Could you imagine being on that set. "Places. Mark. Rolling. Cut off the lights. And ACTION!"
Nearly 50 years on. And the TMP warp sequence is still the best by far.
Never get tired of a star trek beauty pass / space dock exit. Glorious. I hope when humans suss time travel they will bring one of these ships back so i can see it fly. 😎
Some of the best CG work I have seen in Star Trek ever. This is inspired and absolutely beautiful.
Eh? They made some odd lighting and material choices with the ship here, looked really video-gamey to me. Star Trek (2009) had far better effects
@@brianfunt2619 Indeed, it looks more like something from Star Trek Online than a movie. Strange New Worlds and Discovery CGI looks much better.
Picard got goosebumps when 7of 9 said "Engage" to jump to warp speed.
The Titan really is a beautiful ship.
It’s an unlucky name, though…
@@Tempusverum how so?
Until it was renamed as Enterprise, I guess...
In this scene I hear parts of the soundtrack from Star Trek 2 - 6, as well as a few seconds from Star Trek 2009 :).
Man, I’ve got Trek fever real bad. The clips are so exiting to me. I’m convinced this is accurate to our future.
At least they got Spacedock right. And the tip of the hat to James Horner and Jerry Goldsmith was keenly noticed. Don't care for the Enterprise I mean Titan though.
Wait until you see the F.
I love that they also returned to circular saucer shape and not the football.
They finally got someone running a show that knows Trek! Terry Matalas
Strange New Worlds is good too.
@@shaney7346 Hopefully they will keep him on for any new shows. He really did this show proud.
I know it isn't befitting of the fiction but I wouldn't even be mad if the show creators renamed "Star Trek: Picard" to "Star Trek: The Next _Next_ Generation" after this episode. Goosebumps all the way through.
Wait... I thought you're not supposed to do impulse engines in Spacedock?
I think full impulse is in range of c.
1/4 thrusters I think, but whatever, it's begun
And again the impulse acceleration is so slow, even the 1/4 should be quite fast. Due to technical manual the impulse speed should be much faster from the ambassador class era.
They did it in Star Trek 2 and Star Trek 6 as well.
Wow this is really a nice combination of the old and the new Starfleet design. Really nice ship.
It's like an excelsior class meets enterprise -e
SPOILER ALERT
So far I love season 3 myself.
I adored the musical cues, referencing BOTH of the first two movies.
The captain is not on the bridge during launch ???
Yeah....starfleet protocols seemed to have changed in the CBS era...among other things...
The reason the Captain is not on the bridge was a sign of disrespect toward Picard and Riker.
@@louiscarmelotan I agree.
But she is NOT happy about that at all. Expect her to go back to Seven during the season
@@ulphil08 agreed. Captain Shaw is essentially dead-naming her.
Yep, you kinda missed the whole point there
Her journey to her humanity includes her choosing the identity that she feels more comfortable in, a Starfleet captain not respecting that is also part of her journey as she learns about intolerance other humans can project at you as part of their own selfish ego.
Seven made it clear that she doesn't go by that name when she was on Voyager. The only time she felt comfortable about it was inside Unimatrix One. Maybe some people she'd allow to call her Annika, but Shaw is being a bit of a dick.
SHE HATES IT
She is not Annika Hansen, Annika died the moment she got assimilated, the person that got saved by the Voyager is Seven, that is why she choose "Seven" as her name, not Annika. She says it herself in VOY.
Love this moment! Thank you for bringing what we love about star trek back
So glad the Titan became The Enterprise at the end of Picard Season 3. Well deserved. She is a beautiful ship.
Agree to disagree; she IS a beautiful ship, but she was a perfectly good USS Titan-A and earned that name.
@@nooneinparticular1491 True. It kinda seemed disrespectful to change it, in my opinion. The Titan legacy was fine on its own. A new class of ship would've been more practical for the flagship. It honestly makes me wonder if the Titan line ended at that point.
@@MatthewPinder "It honestly makes me wonder if the Titan line ended at that point."
A very good observation and one that I, for one, hadn't considered.
On a side note, I hope that francodigitalphotography3227 wasn't offended by my response, given that we're both fans of the ship.
I actually would have preferred USS Picard.
@@DatTruckinGuy Yes that would have made more sense.
You know when Seven is uncomfortable when she nods the head ever so subtly, that is a Voyager trait, that 0:27
1:15 Isn't this VFX level below PS5 ?
So many music arrangements to hear in that one clip alone, The motion picture being one of them, the wrath of khan, genesis planet, the undiscovered country, so much crammed in. I need to watch the blu ray I just purchased of this series.
Still not a fan of the dark bridge. Have it like that at red alert, but not all the time would be better I think
No hate it. Imagine if it looked like generations.
Agree! See my comment!
Same! Guess they went with the idea that since it's always night (cuz space) they prefer to drive with the dome lights off. Still don't like it.
That music....omg. Now this is Trek....
Excellent recovery Admeral.
Shut it Will.
Yup that's what they said. It was shit.
The sound track adds a lot to that scene
Assuming it is 2411, Picard has lived under this new body for approximately a decade and (sadly) he might be nearing the end of his natural life 😢
so 7/9 is like 60 years old
1) Raffis Granddaughter might be not the only granddaughter she has. The birth the her daughter from season 1 is about three years ago by the point of this episode here
2) Seven might have been given a commission without access to SFA, since she certainly had the knowledge and training of countless Starfleet officer due to her assimilating them.
@@LGranthamsHeir You forgot about the Elixir of Youth!
I’m sure like the real military there is a way to get a starfleet commission without first completing the academy (ex B’Elanna, Kira).
