    For those who think that does not sound like Steve, remember that Steve Harris uses Flatwound strings (0.50 signature set) and that has a lot to do in the way the bass sounds

    • @optimalbass
      @optimalbass 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Funny fact: Steve Harris did not own Steve Harris signature bass, strings or pedals during the 79-89 Maiden golden era

    • @mrcoatsworth429
      @mrcoatsworth429 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@optimalbass the bass he played back then (and still plays) is what the signature bass is modelled after. And his signature strings are a recreation of the kind of strings he likes to play. So what is your point?
      What needs to be pointed out, though, is that Steve has his string action very low and plays quite lightly with the tips of his fingers/fingernails. That's a big part of his sound.

  • @johnroberts2193
    @johnroberts2193 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Steve’s tone isn’t distorted. It’s the sound of the flat wound strings bouncing off of the frets. If you listen to his isolated tracks this isn’t it.

      It doesn't have a compressor circuit, but it compresses like a tube amp - especially if you push the drive control past 3PM or so. I do use a compressor before it but it works perfectly fine on its own.

      If you have this or dp-3x you literally need nothing more. I see no reason to have any pedals with this one or that one. that's just GAS taking over at that point.
      I have the dp-3x and can't stand the damn thing. I've tried every setting known to man and i just cannot get my sound through the mix when playing live or at rehearsal. My Mesa D-800+ honestly sounds better without it. Which sucks, all i really wanted was that good klank sounds and i can't get it.
