    Steve Harris’s fleet-fingered bass lines are the driving force behind Iron Maiden’s relentless gallop - the iconic rhythm that’s been appropriated by an endless number of the band’s heavy metal contemporaries. Steve typically achieves his heavy-hitting growl by plugging his bass into a handmade custom preamp and a bevy of vintage speaker cabinets. But when he was touring for his British Lion project, Steve wanted to scale down his rig without sacrificing tone. The result is Tech 21’s Steve Harris SH1 Signature SansAmp. This all-analog pedal not only replicates the sound of his full-sized rig, but it also enables him to pipe that massive tone straight to the PA. On top of that, it supplies an expansive range of adjustability, unlocking a wide spectrum of bass tones.

    God, I love this pedal so much! Finally those elusive, warm 1970's Bass sounds, in a simple, analog pedal you can throw in your case.
    And they even made a preset that NAILS Mike Rutherfords raw sound from the first Genesis live album! (As long as you have a Rickenbacker Bass, with Rotosound strings, and you play with a pick.... 🙂).
    My eyes pretty much fell out of my head when I saw Tim Starace's amazing demo of this pedal. Instant purchase!
    Thank you TECH21 and Sweetwater for my growing collection of your pedals.

  • @JeffreyTheTaylor
    @JeffreyTheTaylor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    "Dial carefully my friends." So much yes. I have a ton of great Tech 21 gear I bought used PRECISELY because no one understands their EQ (well, except pros who snatch the stuff up before I get there, often). VERY SIMPLE if you stop and think, OK? Twelve noon is NEUTRAL, no boost or cut. As a result, almost all usable tones will lie between 11 and 2 o'clock in the EQ bank. The four band EQ here is absolutely Goldilocks perfect, not too much or too little. Add two channels? Just SLIGHT changes between could mean tremendous range and dynamics. Already a happy Sans Amp DI owner, gonna have to eyeball this box HARD. Oh, the Purple tone was perfect.

    • @Klaus80804
      @Klaus80804 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - you are right - the EQs are very effective, and very important to keep in mind: The Mid1 sits before the gain stage, so you can get more overdrive when boosting Mid1. Mid2 on the other hand is behind the gain stage so you can boost or cut the important 200 Herz range.

    • @JeffreyTheTaylor
      @JeffreyTheTaylor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Klaus80804 That's a great point I was not aware of. Explains a lot. Together with your attack and or pick or not, greatly changes your tone and gives you all the tools to have punch and not mud. Yeah, this unit seems a keeper.

      @@lobotomy007 Set all the tone knobs flat 12 o'clock and turn the gain knob up till it starts to overdrive, then take it a little bit back, so that it is clean just at the edge before it overdrives. Now, when you boost Mid1 you will get overdrive, but when you boost Mid2 you only get that frequency boosted but the tone stays clean. That's how I know.

    The Phil Lynott sound is awesome. At min 8:10 what Phase Pedal did you use? And did you put the Phaser before the SH-1 in the signal chain? I guess you must, because otherwise it would not be in DI-out signal (I hope Tech21 will include a phaser in their next version of the Bass Fly Rig).

      That was my first thought - as long he is with EBS (releasing every year the next version of the Billy Sheehan pedal) it is unlikely Tech21 can make such a product. But I am sure with the YYZ Pedal (Geddy Lees version of a clean and a dirty channel mixed) you get pretty close. I have tried the frist three versions of EBS Billy Sheehan pedals, but non of them did convince me. To me Tech21 has a much better tone, more dynamics, and more options to shape the sound. Try the YYZ and the dUg Pedal, both use the clean, dirty mix setup.
