    4/2024.....I guess I am a survivor. I'm presently 70. I was diagnosed at 12 or 13, with Klinefelter's. I was lucky to have a mother who tried to mitigate some of my issues. My mother was a reading teacher, and she had me attend tutors, from age 11, until the year before high school. My voice became deep at the appropriate time,....(thank god). I have some facial hair,....but can't grow a beard. I also had breast surgery, around age 14, to reduce my (boy) boobs, and they have remained flat and my chest looks normal. I suffered greatly with low self esteem, and chronic depression for most of my life. When I was diagnosed in 1966, at age 13. We were told,.."not much is known about this disorder". Were my doctors lying? There was no Internet, and I recall, on my own going to a public library at that time and later in college, trying to research it, and found pretty much nothing. The only thing I recall,...and it wasn't scientific,.....it said I would end up being a "talkative imbecile". Even with tutoring, I struggled in public school until I went off to high school. My mother saw that I was a very creative boy, and I loved making art. So she sent me various art classes held after school and on weekends. I excelled in this, and even began winning art competitions, by age 15. My mother took me to Art museums, history museums, science ones, both in our home town, and to ones in other cities. We went to local art exhibits. I was a friendless loner, most of my life. Neither the guys or girls had any interest in me. I was painfully shy. I had no coordination and wasn't interested in sports. In high school I blossomed, I found my sense of humor, all of a sudden my peers were interested in what I had to say. I finally was making friends. I gained much confidence. I attended a liberal arts college, and earned a BFA in Fine Arts, I even graduated with honors, my talents were recognized and I was awarded a 3 year Arts Scholarship, that paid for my classes and most of my art supplies. Because of my confidence, I became a "studio" aid,....a part time, paid position. I built the stretcher frames for the painters, and helped in the wood shop, instructing and assisting my fellow sculptors. I took a wide variety of "hands-on" classes. I became a Fine Arts printmaker, I excelled in silk screen printing. I began exhibiting my prints, winning awards, and even selling my art. I went on to Graduate School. After submitting a portfolio of examples of all my art, at the time, which included my sculptures, and prints, I won or was awarded a 2 year scholarship, which underwrote most of my academic & art classes, plus I secured an "Assistant professor position". The first year, I assisted my Print Making professor, teach his classes. The second year I had my own classes of students to teach. I taught printmaking for 1/2 of the year, and for the other half of the year, I taught fine art making to "non-art majors". Those positions also required that I lecture before classes of 20 or more students. Supplemented by slide shows of art by the many famous people throughout history. I ran art criticism classes, too. I continued to exhibit my own art, which included prints and sculptures. After Graduate School, where I received my MFA, I immediately found employment working for a small, not-for-profit, Art gallery. There I helped run our gallery, learned about how to pack fine art for shipping, and I built displays. We did community out-reach programs, too, held special events, and art competitions for our community. That job had me meeting hundreds of local artists, which lead to me finding a rather large warehouse, where myself and 8 other artists, opened up our own art studio. It was primarily a co-operative workspace. We each had large spaces to create our art in. I was in that studio for 14 years. I focused on my sculpture making, and was in many exhibitions. Some were groups shows, others were one-person exhibits. I began winning large (financial) grants, where I was competing with all the artists of my entire state, Ohio. Exhibiting my art, winning grants and even selling my art. (Selling my art never amounted to "making a living", however. After my art gallery job, I worked for 20 years, as a professional art picture framer, where I did make a "living". Even with all my successes, I was often racked with anxiety and soul crushing depression. I was in talk therapy most of my life. My art money earnings, paid for my motorcycle, which I enjoyed and drove during the summer months, for 33 years. I also owned several cars, during those years. (not all at once). I've had the same girlfriend for most of my life, we lived together for 10 years. We now live in the same neighborhood, but not under the same roof. We see each other weekly. I exceeded all expectations I had about myself. I may be too talkative at times,....but I'm hardly an imbecile.

      @@WDBsirLocksight Still, passing on a genetic abnormality is difficult when one of the primary symptoms is infertility no matter how you want to state the relationship to the ancestor the abnormality traces to and indeed the brother of a great grandfather would certainly not pass any genes to you anyways so how can a genetic abnormality be traced back to such a relation at all. Your claim of an uncle being the brother of a great grandfather is not only inaccurate as an uncle is the brother of a father or mother and of course it would actually be impossible to trace a genetic abnormality to an uncle as you would not be descended from your uncle unless incest had occurred, and then there's most men with Klinefelter syndrome are infertile... My statement stands that the posters claim of tracing back five generations is surprising (note a brother of a great grandfather is only three generations not five).

      I also always thought alot of caucasians in North America especially girls had short legs and long torsos but I never thought of my legs being long though that may just be that I've always been a little overweight so definitely not lanky.

    • @WebVManReturns

    • @johnwang9914
      @johnwang9914 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The video said small testicles were characteristic but small penises were only in 20% of the cases. However, the video also said most cases are never diagnosed and micropenises are often not treated as they are often still functional and of course society doesn't seem to like discussing sexual matters like penis size. Note that micropenises are treated with testosterone during childhood and puberty so low testosterone levels seems to be implied with small penises and this syndrome results in low testosterone levels...

      @@Mechinwisdom Klinefelter doesn't show in DNA mapping, it takes a karotype test to assess chromosome abnormalities, DNA mapping scrambles up the chromosomes to access the DNA within them and really efficient DNA mapping has only been around since the 90's, remember when the human genome mapping project was believed to not be achievable in our lifetime. The US military has always been more likely to discriminate upon medical tests then the Canadian military as well as more willing to use more advanced testing. Older texts say that Klinefelter Syndromes may have mental retardation as a symptom but more modern texts say that intelligence does not seem to be affected but there may be learning issues. Your multiple degrees obviously implies intelligence so maybe it's just abnormal brain development that's involved with negative effects outnumbering possible beneficial effects. Improved short term memory is often a compensation mechanism for learning difficulties. It is development that the abnormal hormone levels would cause after all. For all we know, abnormally high intelligence might just be a rarer symptom.

    I have many of these characteristics, but I've never been diagnosed. Sparse facial hair, vellus body hair, infertility, wider hip structure, higher voice, lankiness, and cognitive issues (officially diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, ADHD Inattentive Type, GAD). The biggest difference with me is that I'm also transgender. I've never identified as a boy. Being intersex, though, has no direct correlation to trans identity. So, I'm kind of a rare case. I find it all very fascinating.

    • @theproplady

      It's rare, but a certain number of XXY people identify as female. There was an actress awhile ago who actually starred in a James Bond movie back in the 80s: Caroline Cossey Cossey was actually an XXXXY person, making her feminine features even more pronounced. So in a way, you could say she was more of a woman, than an actual non-trans woman.

I think there are obesity medications now such as Contrave which is now all over tv commercials, it's a combination of an anti-depressive (bupropion) that's known for the side effect of weight loss and Natraxone which is normally prescribed to treat opiate addiction by disrupting the addiction centres in the brain. However, make sure you have someone with you when you start on bupropion as your emotions might go crazy for awhile, when I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure which back at the time I was diagnosed was considered to result in a 70% of death in five years, I asked for an anti-depressant as surely I would not make it through such a challenge if depressed, I started with Prozac but that just dulled everything and suppressed my libido so I asked for Wellbutrin (bupropion) but it had me collapsed on the floor with emotions when I started on it, it did settle down quickly though. I don't know what naltrexone might do, my father stole all my pain killers that were prescribed for operations when I was a child as they worked well against his headaches so I never got addicted to opiates though surprisingly, I seem to attract girlfriends who were addicted to opiates. Talk to your doctor as there seems to be more options in treating obesity now.

    I have most of the typical symptoms except the decreased IQ. I even developed the venous ulcers and had pulmonary embolisms. I had to bring the possibility of Klinefelter Syndrome to my doctor who verified that I had the symptoms. He sent off for the Karyotype test and it came back normal. Could it have been wrong? If it was normal, what else can cause the same symptoms? I'm also trans, by the way.

    • @me-ys4gn

      It is likely these characteristics are caused from low testosterone rather than klinefelter. Many men with klinefelter have little to none of these characteristics and many normal men have some or all.

    Hmmm, prolactin can be high. I wonder if male lactation might be a thing with this syndrome. When I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and was very very sick, pretty much bedridden, I actually had male lactation. Of course I just blamed it on everything being askewed due to the inability of my heart to provide the needed blood flow (EF was 15% at the time) and issues with the liver not removing enough hormones is a known cause for male lactation. My cardiologists thought nothing of the male lactation though occasionally one would ask if I was taking spironolactone at the time, I know that it was prior to being put on spironolactone. These symptoms for Klinefelter syndrome sound awfully familiar except the possible mental retardation as my IQ has been tested at the 99th percentile however I would say that I never really learned good learning and studying practices as I never had to, I even solved a question that required Bayes theorem even though I missed the class on it so I did it from first principles which is considered impossible to do, indeed I had a habit of showing up 20 minutes late for a test or only completing part of the test by not noticing the test was two sided and still doing well, I was mostly excused from class during high school as the teachers expected me to already know what they were discussing, typically I attended about two hours of classes per two days in high school, that may be unusual but would be hard to qualify as mental retardation. My devil may care attitude to school did affect me negatively in University but I still scraped through with my poor attendance even missing a few midterm tests as I did not know when they were scheduled, as of course I missed the class announcements and of course didn't speak very much with fellow students. I guess just being mentally abnormal might qualify as the whole point is that development wouldn't be as it should've been.

    Thank you very explanatory however as a primary partner with a KS man and basically his caregiver i observe at his age 62 a decline in mood, ADHD and anxiety. I pick up depression as well and he has often said he feels dead inside.
    I have been with him 23 years and seriously this holiday thought of ending the relationship. His understanding of a proper relationship and what he brings has seemed to dwindle and I could not handle his negative griping.
    That said I started really researching and know that he needs me and he would not be able to do without help.
    Are there meds for ADHD and depression or should we return to the endocrinologist when he has already been diagnosed?

    • @WDBsirLocksight
      @WDBsirLocksight 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm very wary of meds.
      I asked a geriatrician who are good at being general medical, unique physical issues and mental/cognitive.
      He reccomends dealing with KS or XXY non-KS low hormonal state with T first before psychiatric meds.
      Then eval the ADHD later.
      May only need a short-acting med and a non-stimulant although say atomexitine sometimes not covered.
      As to marriage I would try to stick it out. Usually when there's u understanding, clarity follows. Married people with challenges need heapings of patience.
      And as you know issues are never one or other. Examine what you may be doing that reflects negatively in the romantic response of your partner.
      If a reset us needed carve out some time for a non-formal or formal retreat.
      Re-connect, re-establish, repair and habilitate
      The only time couples should leave is if there physical abuse, long standing direct mental abuse etcetera.
      If you believe in God jump into the word to understand where God wants you to be.

    Why is there so many people attacking Klinefelter syndrome. Is real and it affects a lot of men out there period when you actually have kids who are born with hypogonadism. What are you going to say it's not Klinefelter syndrome. I don't know how you could say that because people like this had existed for thousands of years just like the old freak shows from the past. Where you would have the bearded lady or men who can get shot by cannonballs and be perfectly Define genetic defects happen all the time these defects. Cause a lot of these people to be born with these particular problems. Unless you are a religious zealot I don't know how you could dislike this video for pointing out these facts

    I have Kallmann syndrome which at first can look a lot like Klinefelter syndrome in terms of physical symptoms.
    Kallmann syndrome patients also have delayed puberty / hypogonadism. One major difference is that both males and females can have Kallmann syndrome and will be 46, XY or 46, XX respectively. It is also associated with a lack of sense of smell.
