As far as league goes, From just buying their battle passes somewhat regularly, I directly paid for 0 of the 100 skins I obtained through their loot system last year. So, in total, I spent probably around $60 and got back well over $1000 of value if we were to price the skins individually. And I didn't have to grind to get these rewards. That being said, the only reason league is so generous is because they have over a decade worth of content that has been quality crept. Its a safe bet that for a new game the monetization will be more aggressive.
woah! that’s incredible honestly. only reason i didn’t cover battle passes here is because i couldn’t find consistent information on LoL’s system. the valorant battle pass, never mind the fact there’s no currency reimbursement, is usually no good.
@@noodleshifu after searching a bit earlier, it seriously depends on the team/team lead of the IP. lol is amix of good and bad, valorant is pure trash, lor is so freaking pro consumer it's dying and us players are thinking of ways they can get our money, TFT ... not quite sure, haven't played it yet. Since 2xko is being handled by the canon bros, I have high hopes it might be fine.
@@severedproxy yes! i figured riot didn’t have a uniform model after hearing the consensus on val and LoL were very split. generally val players just agree its cheeks, and for LoL you’ll find that you can’t get a true middle ground. then as you mentioned, those two don’t even account for the other riot titles.
@@noodleshifu Tbh as someone who plays league most people play like 1-3 champions so having a battle pass giving stuff means nothing to anyone but the casual players who want to collect everything. If riot gives me like 4 Yasuo skins and i dont play Yasuo it means nothing to me but since league has so many champions uou will pick up loads of free skins just by playing. The reason people buy skins is usually for the champion they main. These people play a f2p game for like 5 years and drop $20 for a legendary skin for the champion they play everyday id say its pretty cheap.
I honestly wouldn't be mad if the monetization is like league but i think the ideal would be a hybrid of both LOR and LOL. Also, what's the ost, this slaps
Gamepass unlocks all characters the way they did with League and Valorant. That is all. Costumes are secondary but still important but I've already given up hope that they'll be cheaper than SF6 especially if they adopt the freemium model and let you earn them.
Knowing Riot games, its going to be gacha style mechanics. At best, we'll have a generous economy at the start that'll pivot away once they have the playerbase. Valorant is very well known to be stingy with its cosmetics, League's skin pricing is horrible and TFT is actively a whale hunting gatcha game at this point.

The quality of any non-legendary skins has dropped dramatically and the average price has risen dramatically, comapred to where they were 5-10 years ago. 1350RP ($12.00) skins are the norm, despite the drop in quality over the last couple years and the fact that a handful of them actively reuse assets from other skins. Legendary Skins are $22 minimum for 2800RP and have also been dropping in quality. Of the last five released (Empyrean Varus, High Noon Yone, Porcelain ASol , Heavenscale Lee and Winterblessed Senna,) only Yone or Varus would be considered legendary 3-5 years ago and Yone is largely carried by his voice actors performance and sound design. And let's not forget how they fuck over their international fans as well. Pricing on CAD is all over the place, but GBP is 1 to 1 with the American market despite having the same conversion rate. A 1350 skin costs about 10% of the average salary in Czechslovakia. Argentians get half the value despite paying in USD And this is also ignoring the whole $500 skin bundle as well. because pricing like that isn't completely bonkers at all right? I'm sorry you're delusional and don't clearly see a predatory and shitty company even though its right in front of ya.
