I was about to say the same. After what Riot did to Yorick in the Ruined King storyline, I have no faith that they care about those kind of details over popularity, but not putting Jax from the start should be a crime. Dude is the single best non-mythical fighter of all of Valoran and has been for centuries.
Speaking of Jax, if he ever got a Visual (and/or gameplay) Update, his counterstrike should look more like him creating a defensive wall around his body using his staff. His E right now is visually clear, but the animation doesn't make sense. Spinning his lamp above him would not block horizontal shots. Becoming waterlike (Nilah) makes sense as the autos go through her. He definitely should be smacking the auto particles of ranged champions or hitting away blows from melee chamions like Udyr, for example, would make his e cooler and more impactful to me.
What if Sylas and Jax got in together, both as "copy your opponent" type chpions like what was suggested for Neeko, but Jax can copy any martial fighter by wielding their weapon (or an approximation of their weapon), using lanternflames to simulate minor magics. I was first going to suggest him being able to copy anyone but copying a full mage like Ahri would be difficult, so that's where Sylas can step in
Honestly, Draven is the perfect dude for this fighting game, like... think of how much cool shit can you do with the mechanics of throwing and picking up the spinning axes
not to mention in Skullgirls they had Beowulf, a wrestler themed character who had an entire mechanic revolving around riling up the crowd and being able to pull off crazier moves the louder the crowd was roaring. Would work extremely well for Draven with his Adoration stacks already having the crowd roaring in the background when he cashes them in by killing a champion
Just here to mention that Riven was initially inspired by Fighting games gameplay. That's why she has so many options to cancel her animations. Because that's something that happens in fighting games as well and it separates good and bad players (in both Fighting games and League when playing Riven)...
no no no... those animation cancels are bugs... bugs that riot can't fix... so... they sayed they are "features"... but they are bugs... but yeah it's true she was inspired in fighting games
Yeah people don't realize if they remove the cancels she'll have to be buffed in potency or CD to compensate which just makes her easier to execute while still just as painful to fight. Animation cancels create balance via execution @@dedosdeceniza
Tbh, fiddlesticks is the only character I really need in this game, but I do have a few others I'd like to see like Warwick, kindred, and maokai because I just love their designs. I also think zac would be really cool since you could do so much with him and his moves are easily adaptable to a fighting game
I would more love to see Aatrox in project L as a strong sword user that could actually heal if he perform a good combo or after using his super ability. Which could make him unique
Furthermore he would be the classic character who when he uses his special move instead of doing a nice combo in a cinematic directly transforms and becomes stronger
I can see why you picked Taliyah because of sizing issues, but man, Azir would be a perfect puppeteer character. They're some of the hardest to manage, but insanely rewarding characters in their respective games and would be super fun to have and would mimic how difficult Azir is in League.
@@frust9030 Yeah i think he forgot but i mean zed could be a cool mix of puppeteer and rushdown which sounds like my favourite fgc character ever sooooo
Yeah, I'm and azir main in league but even ignoring my bias I'd love a puppeteer, maybe the summon of the soldiers could dmg and knockup enemies, he could do nice combos with dash to soldier and soldier dash etc.
Is also worth mentioning, the characters that get in the roster get a minor redesign based in the Arcane style because Project L is forged around that universe, so we'll see the Arcane version of every character that gets in.
I think that Kindred could be really good, they are quite literally the perfect example of the puppet archetype, two characters in one that you have to learn how to use both of them together to truly master the character
Azir would be the ultimate puppeteer, with all sort of cool combos. Imagine his assist is just summoning a soldier, and when you swap, he literally does E+Q and flies in.
I'd go with Camille instead of blitz. with so many punchy characters we need a few dedicated Kickers, and she'd be a great representation for pilltover. also: wonderful rival pairing with vi. apart from that I'd be pretty happy with this roster.
Agreed. After watching this, I was thinking "wait, what about the piltover part of PnZ?" Like, an entire half of the region is completely ignored. Obviously, Vi is too perfect for a fighting game and the other 2 are confirmed, so replacing blitz with a Piltover representative would be perfect. I was originally thinking either jayce or camille (both could translate well into a fighting game and both represent piltover well), but with the added note of needing a kicker, I think camille takes the cake for me.
@@lucasl799 Camille is a perfect kicker, Jayce is a perfect stance-shifter, aaand for an added bonus no one asked for - taking this 17:32 as inspiration, the obvious choice for a short annoying fast-moving champ is Teemo ... that menace must transcend LoL and also annoy players in other games, it is his calling. Teemo is a perfect Teemo for Project L!
tbh there isnt enough zoners, I feel like Viktor shouldve been one of the characters, his level 3 could be essentially Dr. Dooms level 3 plus they could give him footdive which I think would be fucking hilarious
@@memorless who hates Teemo?! Imo the greatest champion ever created by Riot. He's a masterpiece. So much fun to play and his skins are always so cute.
Mord as a grappler is something I didn't know I needed. Imagine. His pull loses range but has a HUGE hitbox. And when he pulls you he has the chance to perform a sort of PotBuster. But instead of breaking your back he just caves your skull in with Nightfall. Good times.
I feel like Kassadin would be a really good fit. While he's not a Void born like Vel'Koz, he is a good example of what a void corrupted human would look like. And you could integrate his teleportation power into his playstyle, like Dhalsim in Street Fighter 5. Ca'nt wait for more news on Project L to see how close your list is :D.
Aphelios would be such a great pick imo. He already does like 10 million things in league with the game having only 4 abilities. Imagine what he could do in a fighting game where characters are given more moves and options in general. His theme where his sister gives him his weapons while being mute the whole time he is fighting is such a badass concept. Plus every fighting game has that one complicated character that no one understands and Aphelios would be a perfect 200 years pick.
Aph is just a pew-pew character, though. If we're talking about characters that work in a *fighting game*, Leona, Diana, and Pantheon seem like better fitting choices.
@@alphenhousplaysgames4565 nah' that would just be annoying considering their height the hitbox on that character would be abyssmal. it would be like gon vs all tekken3 roster .but I think stacking them on top of each other would fix that problem
We're forgetting one criminally underrated champion: I can see Nocturne being a rushdown type character. His moveset in game already resembles a fighting game character's moveset. His basic combo would be right slash --> left slash --> spin attack --> crit slash. His shadow hand thingy could be like a hadouken. His spell shield could either be a parry or a burst. His fear move would be a command grab. His ult would be his super move where he would fly and superman tackle someone.
Honestly they NEED Fiddlesticks in Project L. Having a strange specialist type fighting style around zoning would be amazing! Or maybe they actually make him a grappler trying to keep you in his tentacle range! This is such a great list Nickyboi!
I think Pyke would be a really good option if neither Illaoi or Zed make it in the game. Illaoi kinda already represents the part of Bilgewater which Pyke represents (they even both serve the same god) while Zed already fits the same fighting game archetype that Pyke would fit. His moveset would be INSANE though, the mixups with his water wraith make me shudder
@@aldric2252 Sorry, not trying to be the annoying "umm, actually..." guy, but Pyke doesn't serve the same god as Illaoi. It is a common misconception that his writer cleared up in a Reddit threadsome years ago.
I think Rell would make an amazing grappler type character. Also if the main antagonist is gonna be Mordekaiser she could finally show her true potential.
If we get Morde, I'd adore to see Rell too, I think she could work with some insane combos with her whole ferromancy, shifting both her armor and her spear around to do the most insane movement. I'm dreaming way too much, but if Illaoi is getting so much love after being so forgotten, a girl can dream that the best support in the game will get some attention in other projects
@@emperorfantasy8601 Rell is easier since she can wear her horse. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R has 3 different characters that can swap between mounted and unmounted fighting with their movesets changing to accommodate. Sejuani would probably be designed like Blitztank(BBTAG): a huge, funny, unorthodox character with a moveset to match, and that'd probably fit someone like Nunu and Willump.
The puppeteer role is one of the most essential roles in a fighting game and i think there are so many choices to choose from… Azir, Belveth, Yorick, Ivern, Malzahar, Zyra, Shaco, and Elise. There are other champs that can be puppet characters like Lulu, Zed, Fiddle, Neeko, Orianna, Kindred, LeBlanc, and Bard. There are so many options but my favorite ideas for a puppeteer would be Bard, Kindred, Ivern and Belveth. Bard could use chimes the same way Olimar from Smash uses his, Ivern could have Daisy pop out of no where “DAISYYYY”, Kindred can fight along Wolf and would represent they/non-binary characters, and although Belveth is unliked I like her concept more of dashing around with voidlings.
Okay Nicolas Lad, I like to put on videos on my television while I make breakfast in the morning and I was like "Huh, new Nickyboi vid, this is gonna be good!" And as soon as you mentioned Pantheon, I got a bit nervous, thinking "Oh crap, is he gonna blast Pantheon's theme at full volume AS HE ALWAYS DOES when he discusses Pantheon?" AND SURE ENOUGH, CUT TO ME SCRAMBLING FOR THE REMOTE AS "AAAAOOHHH HOOOOAAAHHH HAAAH HAAAAAH" BLASTS THROUGH MY APARTMENT AT 07:30 IN THE MORNING. And I'm like "Phew, hopefully that didn't wake up my husband", who usually wakes up a bit later than me. Only a few minutes after, I hear a muted "aaaooooh hoooahhh haah haaahhhhh" from the bedroom, husband cheerfully humming Pantheon's theme. Thanks, Nicky, it was an interesting morning 😂
@@astrograph7875 i disagree. He gives me sheik or gambit vibes. Plus he has additional weapons we just don't see in the game i believe, i may be wrong though. It's just my memory
@@HeyoImKaGo I disagree as well, Being like shiek or gambit is Samiras' thing not jhins'. He not the type of guy to get in your face to throw quick physical strikes like shiek or gambit. He's more of a mastermind/cunning villain preferring to fight in the shadows.
I know this isnt gonna go well, but I feel like Qiyana would fit so well in Project L. With her unique chakram weapon, multiple stances with her elements, she could be a high skill combo champion with a very sink or swim playstyle. Also the idea of her having 3 different rotating assists sound so cool.
this is a great starting roster! Personally I would prioritize getting Riven in just cause she was *explicitly* inspired by fighting games, it just feels cruel to leave her out. Also, as someone who does not play league and just likes looking into the lore sometimes, I'm surprised Nilah is super hated, the footage you showed looks super cool. I also wish Poppy was the yordle rep, but I get the hitbox concerns
Nilah's hated because she looked like she was gonna be OP, and she has a very boring kit. It's basically all just recycled from other characters and doesn't do anything unique.
@@100organicfreshmemes5 ahh, I see, that makes sense. Well, luckily for me I’m just interested in the characters themselves and don’t care about gameplay, so I can just continue to like her
@@100organicfreshmemes5 you can't really do anything entirely unique with league anymore, theres too many different abilities. Something is gonna be recycled, even unintentionally
@@niedoanimowanyrosomak9990 In a vacuum yes, but there are ways to change things or add new mechanics where the abilities work together in a unique way. Zeri, Renata and Rell are all pretty distinct.
I would personally love to see Nautilus and Maokai at some point in Project L. Maokai feels like a great representative of the Shadow Isles and Nautilus is too cool to pass on
Bard and Zoe seem equally possible to be the troll character that also is really powerful just because. Bard gameplay-wise, and Zoe lore-wise. But one thing remains on my head. Whoever is the celestial character, if it's a troll, it MUST summon a portal to Aurelion freaking Sol during the ultimate, just for him to snap them back to the stage because he was sleeping.
@@niedoanimowanyrosomak9990 huhhhh, brother there's already like 30 champions in league who have some sort of install ultimates and you want Pantheon to be the one with an install?
i agree with the guy who said he is made for a soul game ... his lore make me feel the same feeling as a soul game ... lonley small and weak with a big responsabilty to protect the world
@@henito7792 in souls games you are weak one to reignite thing. In Rose game you are old, not weak one to stop from igniting everything. What, is it just DS3 Final boss in nut shell?
I'm kinda surprised Twisted Fate wasn't there for the Bilgewater pick. He has a cool kit for a trap/zoner type of kit where you could set cards around the field like Answer and they'd have different effects. He'd be pretty complex but I could see it working
Looking back at old taric, his kit was based upon exploading gems around him, new taric has a passive that makes him double auto basically. Id think that be a cool concept for a character, his old stun was a point and click that looked like a ball that followed you, make that like a little zoner tool so they cant escape you as you just bash away at them
If Veigar ends up here, I have three ideas: 1_he's the small character, but apart from being hard to hit, he is extremely weak and has to summon his LoR minions as stances and different movesets, he can add multiple ones, making veihar more powerful, but equally as vulnerable (and he stands in their heads to make himself look taller) 2_ Veigar is a hunk-of-a-yordle, just as big and buff as braum, but thats actually just all his minions under a giant cloak, as for gameplay, idk and 3_ He's on the giant mech from his LoR level 2, and acts as the big bad if we don't get Morderkaiser
2 and 3 are interesting imo. I did not know he had a mech, maybe he could use it for a period of time as a higher level super changing him from a mage to a brawler.
You could keep him somewhat small, but make his hat a part of his hit box to make it bigger. That's what Granblue Fantasy Versus did with one of their small race characters (the other just levitates).
Very surprised he didn't mention kindred! They would be a perfect fit for a puppet character, super unique character that is really loved especially in the west. I mean, he didn't mention the puppet character as an archetype at all, integral to fighting games as whole as an archetype. A puppet character needs to happen and for my money, its either Kindred or Kled.
there are a lot of puppet characters, Azir is the obvious one for me but Kindred also makes sense. Zed could work too but I would imagine him being more of a heavy mixup character with teleporting left and right to open you up.
Zed being the Puppet character could work, just it would sort of be a Rush Down Puppet, where he could use the puppet to help him with mix ups with teleporting, or he could just use the puppet...
Can we get a video about maps for project L. Like honestly there are so many cool as hell places to fight at in Runeterra. Here are some I think would be a perfect fit for the game: 1. [The death realm]: Imagen fighting on a huge floating rock while souls wander around watching you beat someones ass. With an amazing panorama look at Mordekaiser's domain and the beautiful crumbling grey sky of the death realm. 2. [Mount Targon]: I probably don't even need to explain this one but I'll do it regardless. Mount Targon is beautiful. It would be awesome to see the beautiful skies and stars above, with maybe even Aurelion watching the fight. 3. [Sett's fighting pits]: Literally perfect. 4. [The pond from the Spirit Blossom 2020 trailer]: Just in general a place with a bit of backstory for Yasuo. It would just be so nice to have some animations when your fighting in the water, like little splashes and small sprays of water. 5. [Bilgewater bays]: It would be and awesome scenery and a good spot to play some Illaoi and Gankplank. Just fighting on the docs of Bilgewater sounds cool already. Now Imagen some of the Bilgewater themes playing as well with pirates watching and cheering. 6. [The Shuriman deserts]: Again hopefully the sands have their own animation when interacted with. In general there are a lot of cool places in Shurima that could be used. Shurima just has a lot of history and many cool locations such as: Nasus library, the streets of Shurima, the Sundisc or even just some of the ruins. There are many more such as the Shadow Isles, the Void, Bandle city, Jhin's theater, Ornn's smith..... I can't name them all there are just too many. I think we have a load of awesome options for maps and I hope we can get Nickyboi's thoughts on the subject of maps.
I honestly think that Lissandra would be an amazing character for this game. She has mage abilities with good offense but also at close range with pretty good defense. Liss also encaptures a lot of the freljords lore and I think she has so much potential tbh. Edit: I feel like she would play a lot like enchantress from injustice 2, idk why but I get those feels from her
Hear me out, Nicky PLEASE make every League champs face in this art style, it's FUCKING AWESOME. Like with Neeko having the cheeky grin, Sett looking overconfident, somehow you capture the essence of the champ with just a tiny portrait, absolutely 10/10.
Imo renekton would easily be one of the single coolest characters for project l. His passive literally works like a fighting game meter bar. His Q can be a wakeup attack/restand. His W can be used as a combo starter by burning meter and without the meter it can be a save move to create block pressure. As the most exciting parte for him i love the idea of his E working like yamchas wolf fang fist from dbfz. Since in league of he dashes through an enemy he has another one so in project l he can casually dash through the opponent and then by burning a bar of meter he just instantely makes another dash and switching sides again basicelly being an insane 50/50 mix up machine. Just the idea of comboing the opponent, using Q to bring them on their feet, dashing twice as a mixup, redoing it and the next time using only 1 dash and hitting them again has so many sick synergy options. It is incredibly fun mixing with yamcha so i imagine with someone like renekton it will even be better. Also i just absolutely love the character so 100% bias here
@@metalllich3493 yeah renektons install basicelly making him go on fire like he does on his level 3 animation in lor can definitely be a sick install super to have
I think another cool addition would be Gwen. You could use some type of ability to create stacks, to do combos with her scissors like her q and E in-game, and then her w, could be used for a parrie type ability like mario's cape in smash bros.
having kindred as a puppet character would be amazing, it'd probably work similar to rosalina and luma where it'd be more of a zoning puppet, but i'd love it so much especially since riot forget about kindred T-T
I'm still strongly of the mind that Zac would make an amazing fighting game character if given to a creative enough team (like the project L team) - its also worth mentioning that the team making this game is a different company that Riot bought. Trust in the Cannons.
Honestly just straight up copying zacs league kit can be an insanely fun and whacky fighting game chartacter and i imagine his slingshot ability will be such a sick assist to use aswell
I love Lee Sin's icon hahaha. Amazing vid Nicky. About the "demon fighters" in my choice I would have put Tamh Kench, you know, slashy tongue and the ability to devour enemies.
i think there is a possibility that 1 or 2 playable champs would be unique of that game like what they done in lor with yuumi's master that would be a really good thing to see imagine playing like a darkin or an aspect that we never have seen
i can really see Bard having like a bog standard fireball that only works if he has a meep around, and if he doesn't he just goes "nyeh" and nothing happens
What if we make sylas a very big risk award character. So first we change his super meter, make it so instead of the archetypal 2 bars, it’s something like 12 pips. And make it he only starts with 3, a good amount of his good abilities cost a pip or two, but if he lands the ability without them blocking, he gets a net positive gain. he can spends half of his pips to do an enemy super move, but the real treat is when he gets all 12. Once he does he becomes “Unshackled”. All moves are faster, or hit harder, his abilities don’t cost anymore, and after he’s done whooping ass, he can spend his entire bar to do his own special ult that just decimate the enemy, but resets him to zero pips, the only move that doesn’t cost pips that gives them could be the equivalent to Kingslayer( his w or what I like to call it, the revolutionary’s vibe check), can come out fast, but hits harder the less damage you do(cause combo mitigation), add some rush down/ grapple stuff with his chains and I think he would be an amazing fighting champ. Ps. I just realized the pips could be chain links…. I really want this now
I would like to point out that teemo has an animation test that was confirmed to be for project l. doesnt necesarily confirm him for the roster but it does confirm him to be considered for it, even enough to build a model and moveset.
I think Zoe is more likely as a joke character than Bard, mostly because Bard can't talk. Deadpool works great in MvC3 because he won't shut up and is just messing around. Zoe could do the exact same while also having plenty of portal shenanigans
Yeah, I'd go Zoe over Bard too. She'd actually have interaction lines. Funny ones too. Only reason I agree with Gnar pick, who is the only yordle without any real lines, is because not only is the transformation a good mechanic for fighting games, but so is his boomerang mechanic. He fits well over the other yordles. And his little skull helmet could act as what is needed to improve his hit box. Other change I'd make is Zed. I just....can't see Zed without Shen. Just doesn't feel right. Many Ionian champs they could trade him for that would fit well. Jhin for the trap and zoning character, and amazing essentric character lines in the story. Irelia, for her crazy blade combo play and major representation of Ionia. Akali, for the invisibility combo playstyle and ninja representation. All of those, I feel would be better than Zed by himself. .....until DLC. Zed and Shen as a combo dlc set. OR, have BOTH Zed and Shen in the game at start. Zed, as your noob saibot character. And maybe Shen who specializes in tag team with providing protections to allies with assists, teleporting all over the place, and dual sword style.
I feel Tahm Kench kit would be perfectly translated to the game, close gap w, combo continue r and long range attack q. Idk he seems like it would be fun ^^
Pretty good list, I feel the final roster will be similar to this, I just want to add some more details and my personal picks: 1) Ahri won't be a zoner, but rather and air juggler rusdown character 2) Jink is 100% a zoner (someone call her the Project L's Cable) and the devs stated that Ekko is a "Midrange zoner", and as primarily zoning player I'm hyped for these 2 (Zoning is cool) 3) While probably fake, there's a supposed leak that Neeko will be a part of the main roster. She's a rushdown/Zoner hybrid will have shapeshifting as one super 4) Project L is confirmed to be a F2P For my personal picks, I think Jax should be in the base roster, and sfter the LoR redesign, even more so. I'd love to have Jayce as another Stance charecter, being a brawler in hammer and a zoner in crossbow. Viktor would be neat IMO with all his gadgets. we could have a thunder bender with Kennen. Qiyana would be the Avatar of the 4 bender character, with actually giving her tha ability to swap between the 4 elements fore diferect setups/combos.
Loved the video and the list, but as a Volibear main/OTP I can't help but want The Bear™ in Project L. I know Udyr would be an amazing fit as you said, with the representation of so many of the Freljordian Gods, but I would kill to see him in action in a fighting game. Hell, thrown Ornn in too, I wanna watch them battle it out or put their sibling squabbling aside and fight side-by-side again!
I just think adding Volibear without Ornn is like adding Kha without Rengar, so it would probably make more sense to add them together later. Still, Voli would be prefect in a fighting game
@@ВасилийМедведев-з5в I agree, they are a pairing that Riot needs to flesh out more and play on. I think Ornn would suit Project L too, just not as much as Volibear with his attitude.
I feel yorick could be super cool, a heavyweight zoner kinda like DDD, using the disjointed shovel, you have cage and mist projectiles to summon ghouls to have rush down mechanics and a built in tag with maiden, maybe acting as a buff to your tag ally making them stronger
My predictions: Lee Sin Udyr Blitzcrank Yasuo Zed Vi Rengar Kha'Zix Fiddlesticks Neeko Annie Braum Poppy Taliyah Fiora Draven Riven Thresh Kindred Kai'Sa Renekton Lux (Kinda made that up on the fly just to compare with the video, see you when it's out)
Well... I still think Draven should be in there, as well as either Annie or Kindred to fill the Puppet Fighter role. Other than that I mostly agree with the opinion of Mr Boi. (Although isn't Vel'koz a bit too big to be in a fighting game?) Great video Nicky!
I can't believe Aphelios wasn't even mentioned his game play is based around doing combos with guns and constantly having to switch between them and his ult even feels like a super
i think probably be an incredibly difficult character to both develop and balance, like how he was in league. giving him access to so many options might not be great for the game. i could definitely see him being really fun to play, but having to deal w someone with so many options might not be great to go against. from a represenation standpoint, diana would probably be a better representation of targon and the lunari. he is super cool tho and itd be really cool if they could pull him off in a way that makes him fun to fight against with still a lot of skill expression
No. Aphelios is on my list of never add them in project L. If you've played injustice 2 then you know the cancer called deadshot, dr fate and starfire being legit everywhere and made the game unplayably unfun.
@@Dr.JonathanCrane 3/4 of Aphelios's guns are only really fictional in melee range so unless they just decide to give him ranged auto attacks like in league i don't really see him as a zoner, i see him more a a character like Elphelt from guilty gear but with an ammo restriction
I just want Morde and Renekton to make it. Most of all Renekton, even though Morde is more my favorite champion, I just think Renek would have the superior fitting moveset.
Yeah renekton imo can be an insane combination of both yamcha and broly from dbfz. His E being wolf fang mixups and everything else just being pure ruthless aggression
pyke, thresh and gangplank would be something i would want to see. especially gangplank it'd be interesting to how you can implement a fighting style while keeping his gameplay similar to league
LOR has fixed dozens of champions, and I think Project L could make an incredible Rell. Fix the issues with her weird skirt armour and just turn her into a complete bulldozer that just runs right through you. Imagine Rell charging you with her metal horse, only to leap off of it into the air as the metal horse latches onto her, twisting and contorting until she's encased in a tattered, scratched and very rough suit of armour, then following up her attack by slamming you into the ground with her mace. Really hope they fix Rell's design in either Project L or LOR because she has so much potential
Give sion the omega brain Q, as a skill rewarding ability if you zone well, and time right to maximize damage much like it is in league regardless. His E becomes a very natural 'hadauken', and give him some ariels with nice reach annd you have a very good zoner tank that feels almost perfect for the role. Plus, when he dies, he can have some sort of revamped moveset for some time where he becomes a ridiculous combo heavy short ranged brawler for a very short time, while still maintaining his large hitbox. Would be a sick character and relatively popular character, who is also easy to incorporate imo
the fact he was an undefeated gladiator for so long, before going to demacia... I agree, and he could bring a contrast in playstyle to Pantheon with the spear as well, where Pantheon could be either more defensive or counter focused, Xin Zhao could be more rush down or something...
I think that rell would be a good pick because it can show how much power she actually has and not just a support that heals the enemy’s with her damage. I think she’s super powerful and needs more attention
Personally, I lean far more towards Kled for our Yordle rep. Gnar being able to become big doesn’t fix the issue that he starts small. Kled also just a fun personality, compared to Gnar who is just goofy animal thing. And if you are thinking goofy Characters, Kled literally uses a Bear trap on a string. The shit they can pull out of Kled is insane to think about. Not to mention they can incorporate dismounting by giving him a counter super where your hit scares off Skarl and he just goes bananas on you himself until Skarl returns.
Blitz would be a cool way to make a ranged grappler, slow and bulky but unlike broly from dbfz or Potemkin from GGS, he fights from midrange. His grapple arms would allow for some cool midrange fighting moves and unlike normal grapplers would make him bad at closerange. Just spitballing but it sounds like a really cool concept, something akin to min-min from smash, or arms in general honestly.
Great video Nicky, all of your choices were good and I understood the reasoning behind all of them. And we know, everyone wants to recommend more, everyone wishes their mains to be in the game but there's only so much space for the roster especially first release. And there are also tons of other characters that popular or not, would mechanically work really well in a fighting game enviroment. Like: Camille, with the blade legs, she could do so many cool attacks with that, her Q backflip and grappler hooks would just work here really well. Lissandra, who is a really cool character and who could bring the SZ energy at its finest. Gwen, a character with a giant pair of scissors? In a fighting game? Like yeah. And the throwing needles part would work too. Same thing for Quiyana, very interesting and fun weapon choice, would be really cool in a fighting game. Kalista, who's unbalancable mobility would finally be made use of here, throwing spears, and her league ultimate is literally a tag move. Ryze, you could do so many combos with spell flux... Shaco, box and clone mechanics... Volibear, Xin Zhao, Zac again just fit this enviroment well etc. There are so many champions who would work here for so many reasons, but you can't put everyone in. Anyways, I think your picks are perfect, Hope we will see most of them in the actual game.
In one of the dev updates for Udyr VGU, they said they created him like a fighting game character in league which basically confirmed him in Project L to me.
Dope video, love the picks. I audibly said “mordekaiser!!” when you said “we need a big bad”. I think the one I’d add personally that you never mentioned is Tahm Kench. Would probably play like a grappler character but I mostly just like the idea of a tongue fighter lol
For one of Bard's moves he could create a portal that opens looking down at the top of the screen in front of Bard, from where a random assortment of items of Runeterra could fall through, it could spawn an avalanche of poros that if they fall on the enemy do damage over time, A Ziggs' bomb that that can be hit around and that when it hits someone it explodes, Pantheon's spear that just impales the enemy and then goes back into the sky and other things with each having a different functionality. Finally the most powerful thing that could come out, but the one with the least chance, is the bitting maw of a dragon that just obliterates the enemy.
as a LOR player i though somone already pointed out this joke at 14:05 for anyone who dosent undestand it or dosent play lor its funny cause iloi has the overwhelm keystone in the clip ;D
I honestly think Jax is too good a fit to pass up, especially after seeing that design from LoR.
I SWEAR TO GOD, we got that sick af animation like 7 years ago of jax and fiora fighting and i cant do that irl im going to throw a fit
Jax with titanic hydra aka his real weapon as the story secret boss comon
What if Sylas and Jax got in together, both as "copy your opponent" type chpions like what was suggested for Neeko, but Jax can copy any martial fighter by wielding their weapon (or an approximation of their weapon), using lanternflames to simulate minor magics. I was first going to suggest him being able to copy anyone but copying a full mage like Ahri would be difficult, so that's where Sylas can step in
Honestly, Draven is the perfect dude for this fighting game, like... think of how much cool shit can you do with the mechanics of throwing and picking up the spinning axes
Also its Draven. Like, come on, the man is Zangief with knives
not to mention in Skullgirls they had Beowulf, a wrestler themed character who had an entire mechanic revolving around riling up the crowd and being able to pull off crazier moves the louder the crowd was roaring. Would work extremely well for Draven with his Adoration stacks already having the crowd roaring in the background when he cashes them in by killing a champion
Mmmm, rushdown zoner 'sweats'
Z*ner character
PROJECT DRAVEN!!!
Just here to mention that Riven was initially inspired by Fighting games gameplay. That's why she has so many options to cancel her animations. Because that's something that happens in fighting games as well and it separates good and bad players (in both Fighting games and League when playing Riven)...
Many of those cancel animation was in fact bugs that become feature. But you are right about her being inspired by fighting game
no no no... those animation cancels are bugs... bugs that riot can't fix... so... they sayed they are "features"... but they are bugs... but yeah it's true she was inspired in fighting games
@@fernandogonzalez6759 they can fix them, they did. but her winrate DROPPED HARD
Yeah people don't realize if they remove the cancels she'll have to be buffed in potency or CD to compensate which just makes her easier to execute while still just as painful to fight. Animation cancels create balance via execution @@dedosdeceniza
i believe one of the main fighting game characters that influenced riven was marth in smash melee, i remember hearing that around 9-10 years ago?
Tbh, fiddlesticks is the only character I really need in this game, but I do have a few others I'd like to see like Warwick, kindred, and maokai because I just love their designs. I also think zac would be really cool since you could do so much with him and his moves are easily adaptable to a fighting game

I would more love to see Aatrox in project L as a strong sword user that could actually heal if he perform a good combo or after using his super ability. Which could make him unique
Furthermore he would be the classic character who when he uses his special move instead of doing a nice combo in a cinematic directly transforms and becomes stronger
bad install move is a requirement
I can see why you picked Taliyah because of sizing issues, but man, Azir would be a perfect puppeteer character. They're some of the hardest to manage, but insanely rewarding characters in their respective games and would be super fun to have and would mimic how difficult Azir is in League.
i thought the same, he kinda missed the puppeteer Role.
I fucking love zato even though im really bad at him
Like he said he wanted different archetypes but then gave no puppeteer archetype so I just had a feeling he would say zair but he didnt
I personally thought Jayce would be an amazing stance change character.
Arcane also gave him a bit of a popularity boost.

Idk man. Changing between melee fighter and zoner as stances does not sound exciting one bit.
Is also worth mentioning, the characters that get in the roster get a minor redesign based in the Arcane style because Project L is forged around that universe, so we'll see the Arcane version of every character that gets in.
only piltover/zaun characters, the rest of the others region characters we seeing is the same design in league

I think that Kindred could be really good, they are quite literally the perfect example of the puppet archetype, two characters in one that you have to learn how to use both of them together to truly master the character
Kindred is a great one!
Ca'nt wait for more news on Project L to see how close your list is :D.
Kass with tps? yeah give me that LOL

His fear move would be a command grab. His ult would be his super move where he would fly and superman tackle someone.
I could see Diana being an incredible rushdown champ using her dashes and explosive moveset
shooting that crescent q upwards to move rushdown from the ground to an air combo and ending/extending it with r would be dope

@@bowmain1577 same reason why Rell wouldn't work the best too.
@@emperorfantasy8601 Rell is easier since she can wear her horse. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R has 3 different characters that can swap between mounted and unmounted fighting with their movesets changing to accommodate. @@bowmain1577 Does she necessarily have to have the boar? It'd be cool to see her and as a competent fighter without a mount. Plus flails are cool

Also, as someone who does not play league and just likes looking into the lore sometimes, I'm surprised Nilah is super hated, the footage you showed looks super cool.
Id think that be a cool concept for a character, his old stun was a point and click that looked like a ball that followed you, make that like a little zoner tool so they cant escape you as you just bash away at them
Sett just has to be there it’s too perfect also I’d love to see belveth, rek’sai, and Kha’zix.
Imagine tagging one of your characters out just for Sett to grab 'em and slam them down to the ground.
If Veigar ends up here, I have three ideas:
1_he's the small character, but apart from being hard to hit, he is extremely weak and has to summon his LoR minions as stances and different movesets, he can add multiple ones, making veihar more powerful, but equally as vulnerable (and he stands in their heads to make himself look taller)
2_ Veigar is a hunk-of-a-yordle, just as big and buff as braum, but thats actually just all his minions under a giant cloak, as for gameplay, idk
and 3_ He's on the giant mech from his LoR level 2, and acts as the big bad if we don't get Morderkaiser
That Mecha-yordle from LoR is such an amazing idea though. I would love to see him fight with it.
Veigar is pretty much the only yordle that wouldn't feel out of place or just be another unga bunga attack character
Here are some I think would be a perfect fit for the game:
Please NickyBoi give us a vid about cool map options :[
The art is made by a guy named Footballhead, so he would need to ask him to make the art.
Fiddlestick looks goofy, tho, i’m not sure that’s his essence 😅
Neeko looks... weird
I really think Yorick would be my Shadow Isles pick. Shovels are sword adjacent, and he's just cool as hell.
Also i just absolutely love the character so 100% bias here
His and Nasus R are literally install supers btw, i think they'll both will fit very well.
@@metalllich3493 yeah renektons install basicelly making him go on fire like he does on his level 3 animation in lor can definitely be a sick install super to have
I just wanna say it's funny how everytime you set up a way to blast Pantheon's theme in a video it makes me that little kind of hype emotional.
I think another cool addition would be Gwen. You could use some type of ability to create stacks, to do combos with her scissors like her q and E in-game, and then her w, could be used for a parrie type ability like mario's cape in smash bros.
having kindred as a puppet character would be amazing, it'd probably work similar to rosalina and luma where it'd be more of a zoning puppet, but i'd love it so much
especially since riot forget about kindred T-T
Kled would be the perfect joke character. Would also be very unique and could cover a yordle spot. Alas he was forgotten once again :pensive:
I'm still strongly of the mind that Zac would make an amazing fighting game character if given to a creative enough team (like the project L team) - its also worth mentioning that the team making this game is a different company that Riot bought. Trust in the Cannons.
Honestly just straight up copying zacs league kit can be an insanely fun and whacky fighting game chartacter and i imagine his slingshot ability will be such a sick assist to use aswell
16:03 I actually got chills when Pantheon's theme kicked in
I love Lee Sin's icon hahaha.
I could definitely see Norra as the obligatory "random item character" that most Arcsys games have
i can really see Bard having like a bog standard fireball that only works if he has a meep around, and if he doesn't he just goes "nyeh" and nothing happens
Bruv, your vision of Pantheons EX/Ultimate move literally bought me for the whole ride of Project L!
I love it! 💪

Source? I am really interested in wanting to check it out.
I think Zoe is more likely as a joke character than Bard, mostly because Bard can't talk. Deadpool works great in MvC3 because he won't shut up and is just messing around. Zoe could do the exact same while also having plenty of portal shenanigans
and yet bard is still the more well liked character in the game compared to zoe lol, ye call me biased but I'm 100% bard>zoe hahah
I was 100% agreeing with him until he hit Bard instead of Zoe. Other than that, was a great starting roster and I would play day 0.
wow damn didn't expect u guys would pick zoe over bard, I guess I just really hate zoe huh
And maybe Shen who specializes in tag team with providing protections to allies with assists, teleporting all over the place, and dual sword style.
as a bard main, disliked
I feel Tahm Kench kit would be perfectly translated to the game, close gap w, combo continue r and long range attack q. Idk he seems like it would be fun ^^
Yasuo announced, this aged PERFECTLY
Pretty good list, I feel the final roster will be similar to this, I just want to add some more details and my personal picks:
1) Ahri won't be a zoner, but rather and air juggler rusdown character
2) Jink is 100% a zoner (someone call her the Project L's Cable) and the devs stated that Ekko is a "Midrange zoner", and as primarily zoning player I'm hyped for these 2 (Zoning is cool)
3) While probably fake, there's a supposed leak that Neeko will be a part of the main roster. She's a rushdown/Zoner hybrid will have shapeshifting as one super
4) Project L is confirmed to be a F2P
For my personal picks, I think Jax should be in the base roster, and sfter the LoR redesign, even more so.
My predictions:
Lee Sin
Udyr
Blitzcrank
Yasuo
Zed
Vi
Rengar
Kha'Zix
Fiddlesticks
Neeko
Annie
Braum
Poppy
Taliyah
Fiora
Draven
Riven
Thresh
Kindred
Kai'Sa
Renekton
Lux
(Kinda made that up on the fly just to compare with the video, see you when it's out)
Well...
I still think Draven should be in there, as well as either Annie or Kindred to fill the Puppet Fighter role.
Other than that I mostly agree with the opinion of Mr Boi.
(Although isn't Vel'koz a bit too big to be in a fighting game?)
Great video Nicky!
Your list includes renekton so it automaticelly is a good list
you cant put champs that are bigger then humans ( like renekton)
@@stormdragon2529 this is ridley in smash all over again
Nice video, I appreciate the effort, and also that Pantheon moment was hype, gj man.
oh I just found your comment here hey
@@someguywithajacksparrowicon hello 😁
Considering Rooflemongers new video about the potential rooster that came out a day or two ago, this was *remarkably* on point. Well done!
15:48 that is a cool idea. Whenever a champion uses a super the champion's theme song started playing
more like a dramatic finish
Kindred, just kindred
based
cringe
Kindred takes up both slots, but always has a kit that combos well. As a kind of tutorial to perfect character combos.
Agree, I think they would be really cool as a puppet character
Literally a perfect candidate for a puppet character that this roster is sorely lacking. Anyone who says otherwise is objectively wrong.
Because we don't want another Injustice 2 Deadshot.
No. Aphelios is on my list of never add them in project L. If you've played injustice 2 then you know the cancer called deadshot, dr fate and starfire being legit everywhere and made the game unplayably unfun.
I just don’t like the idea of a Zoner like him, all those guns sound like hell.
@@Dr.JonathanCrane 3/4 of Aphelios's guns are only really fictional in melee range so unless they just decide to give him ranged auto attacks like in league i don't really see him as a zoner, i see him more a a character like Elphelt from guilty gear but with an ammo restriction
my man forgot the literal fighting game based champion, riven
17:03 desert lux, holy fuck im crying trying to hold in my laughter at 3am
Velkoz or zac would be so fun as well! The skins and the ideas they could do with them in this game will be insane!
Kha would be such a great idea, all his victory quotes would just be like "damn cant wait to try out x"
Great vid you got here! Smooth transition and very informative!
if we actually get taliyah on the roster i will cry so hard 🥺
Agreed, main her in lol, I’d main her in project L aswell
I just want Morde and Renekton to make it. Most of all Renekton, even though Morde is more my favorite champion, I just think Renek would have the superior fitting moveset.
Morde makes me think hed play like Vaseraga from granblue fantasy versus
Coming back here everytime Nickyboi was right about a prediction:
Yasuo ✅
I would love to see zoe! A mobile trickster with ness-like yoyo tricks!
your personal opinion is wrong
Zoe as the annoying meme character and the bane of every player
Just like in League
brisket
Tbh, would like to see sion as a slower, heavy hitting guy, like Iron Giant, like you could directly import his q into the game
Xin Zhao needs to be in Project L, his whole Lore is about fighting in an Arena
the fact he was an undefeated gladiator for so long, before going to demacia... I agree, and he could bring a contrast in playstyle to Pantheon with the spear as well, where Pantheon could be either more defensive or counter focused, Xin Zhao could be more rush down or something...
I'm not playing if Bard isn't in it, you convinced me.
Also the idea of Morde gives me flashbacks to Nightmare from Soulcalibur 4
I think that rell would be a good pick because it can show how much power she actually has and not just a support that heals the enemy’s with her damage. I think she’s super powerful and needs more attention
One character I would love to see is Kindred, they could make her similar to Zato on GGS
For a ninja, Shen's arms are thicker than waists of some female champions.
Like:
Camille, with the blade legs, she could do so many cool attacks with that, her Q backflip and grappler hooks would just work here really well.
Volibear, Xin Zhao, Zac again just fit this enviroment well
etc.
Please don't bring up Ornn's skins if he doesn't get one this year I might commit a hate crime
I think qiyana is a MASSIVE oversight here, an absolute combo queen.
Muy lindo por tu parte pensar que no van a poner a thresh desatado en el juego
GOD DAMN IT NICKY YOU GAVE GOOSEBUMPS WITH THAT PANTHEON MUSIC!
as a LOR player i though somone already pointed out this joke at 14:05 for anyone who dosent undestand it or dosent play lor its funny cause iloi has the overwhelm keystone in the clip ;D
