bye winter blues ❄︎ habits and hobbies that keep the winter blues away
I feel like I’m one of those rare people who thrive in winter, it’s my absolute favorite season! Especially during this time bc it’s so calm and cold and still. I also really love the darkness lol. I dread the coming of spring and summer, but I’ll try to use these tips (adapted for warmer weather obv) here to appreciate spring and summer more. :)
Same! As soon as winter is over I feel so out of sorts and can’t get myself to do anything until it’s winter again
*Joins the club* ❤
Me too! Winter makes me feel so alive.
Same!!
I hate summer , I am dreading about the approaching summer.
Me too. I can handle the heat of Summer but I don't want to
Putting in a formal request for more Cari sketching 😮 That looked great!
I'm about to see Companion with Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid.
Thank you!!!
I'm one of the apparently very few people who enjoys winter -- I love a long cozy night, and the brisk temperatures make me feel alive. For me, there's nothing better than a sunny, cold day. I need tips for surviving summer, haha!
@@MaryE171 same LOL
Me too ❤
Emphasis on sunny tho!! When its week after week of no sun, my mental health really suffers 🥲
exactly!
Winter girl here
As someone who works in mental health, I really appreciate this video because I know that people are going to hear this practical advice and be able to bring it into their lives in a tangible way.
My Sunday routine: make a double shot latte and settle in for the latest video from Caricakes ☕️🧦🧘🏽♀️

Hi Cari! I've been a silent watcher for the longest time, ever since I got into reading and found your booktube. Both of your channels have such a special place in my heart and I will never stop watching these videos. Honestly, you emulate the coolest vibes and I aspire to live and be the kind of person you are. I find so much relatability and comfort in your introvert diaries (I find so much of myself in them)
As an older teenager currently in stressful depths of school, its hard to find inspiration to do anything creative. But your videos are always so refreshing, artistic and so visually soothing - it always scratches the right part of my brain. This is such a ramble (and I never do this) but I would just like to thank you for existing and making some of the best content I consume.
currently dying from heat in australia (it was 40 degrees/104f today) so bingeing your winter diaries helps me to imagine it's cold
Cari thank you so much for your videos. I'm a mum of a toddler so going to art galleries, musuems, even cafes are not something I really get to do anymore. When I watch your videos it makes me feel like I've gone on a day trip to the musuem aswell! Also towards the end of last year I decided to commit to reading as a hobby, and joined a local book club. I was so nervous because I wasn't sure what kind of people would be there but it's such a beautiful, diverse group of women and it's encouraged me to expand the types of books I read. It's funny because one of the women said why don't you use the library (which is really obvious but I had internally told myself 'I don't have time'). Going to the library was like going to a book store...but free! It was enjoyable browsing different titles and blurbs, and getting books I had never heard before. I can definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to get back into reading, or wanting to move on/expand from the romantasy genre that has taken a chokehold on Booktube.
I've also had the thought recently that it feels like winter has been going on for years. That's why it was a blessing that we had a few warmer days this week. It was around 10°C, sunny, the birds even started chirping and it just felt like early spring. Even the air smelled like it. And while I know this isn't really the type of weather you would want at the end of January, me included, but it was such a serotonin boost to my system.
January has felt like a whole year!!
@@caricakes it really has felt like that!
Today was one of the nice winter days here. Clear blue sky, cold but with the lovely white snow everywhere. I actually enjoy being out in it on days like that. Lovely video as always--thanks for all you do to inspire us. 🙂
Hope those days last 🥹 its the grey days that get me 😮💨
Yes RIP David Lynch! The ending to the original Twin Peaks is probably my favorite ending to a series besides Breaking Bad. His surrealism will be missed!
Such a loss but he left us so many gifts!!
I’m leaving for Seoul next week to do an exchange semester and this video made me soooo much more excited! You seem to have such similar taste interests, how absolutely lovely your way of living through winter, with the museum, film, food, culture…
I really needed this video tonight. This season is always a tough one. Thank you for your amazing content as always. Your video has reminded me to embrace the small pieces of happiness that we can find/make for ourselves during this rough period. Looking forward to the future adventures!
Thank you and sending love!!
I actually found your channel years ago when I was looking for painting/drawing inspo, you were painting flowers in a park if I'm remembering correctly. It's nice to see you getting back into it, I think I will too ☺️
Omg yes lets get back into it!!
Watching this at the perfect time since we have just had continuous rain. You helped get me back into reading, I started again because of my sister but you helped me continue discovering and loving great books. I'm actually a little... too addicted now. But that's fine because it's getting me through winter!
The Fall is my favorite movie of all time! I loved the rerelease. So happy you got to see it too
Soooo glad we got to see it in theatres! It deserves a big screen 🥹
How dare youtube hide this from me for 17 minutes
TH-cam is hiding me for days so 😂💀😂💀😂
i do love winter, so i cant really relate... but something to look forward to is soo important! i forgot how good it felt to finally see the new episode of a show after a week of waiting... sometimes when things are so readliy available you forget to enjoy and savor them.
I love when you do your sketching. You're so good at it. Lovely advice Cari. 🤗💕💕
Thank you always!
LIBBY!
i have about 13 library books and have more books coming in that i can read.
when i really love a book i buy the hardcopy :)
Love your videos Cari. Thank you for sharing your life. Stay strong.

Thank you, Cari, for sharing such warm and comforting content during the hardest months of the year. I live in Sweden and winter truly has got its grip around everything and everyone. This video truly brightens my day up a bit! Hugs!
I don’t normally comment but I just had to say how gorgeous and well put together this vlog is. Winter is my favorite season so I love seeing someone do it justice :)
What a way to end the day! This is what I needed before going to sleep
Sweet dreams 😌
First! Sundays are the best when u upload Cari!
Thank you 🥹🥹🥹
as a central/southern arizona girlie it is truly a wonder to me how people get stuck inside during winter. we're warm/hot year round over here except for a few weeks between december and jan where it's truly chilly the whole day, so i always see a tonnn of people outside doing their thing during the winter
I grew up in San Diego so i feel like moving to a snowy place was extra difficult 😮💨
I’m sending you all the love Cari! You are such a comforting human to witness put herself out there on the internet❤
Sending love back!!
@ 💕
this video has its own aura 💜

This video felt like a warm hug ❤ today was a really tough day for me personally so little videos like this are really helping
I'm exhausted after a long day of hot summer and your video is here just on time to unwind before bed! I envy your winter haha. Wishing you the best Cari, lots of love from Argentina! ❤
Sending love your way too!!!
Ever since you recommended the book Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow a few years ago, you’ve reignited my love for reading. My parents recently got me a kindle for Christmas, and so now I’ve been reading even more. Just a small thank you I guess! 🥹✨
Your videos are always a comfort, especially in this difficult time following the tragic airplane crash that affected the figure skating world 💔
what a lovely reminder to nurture my hobbies! have a lovely week cari!!
You too 💓
Thanks for this video Cari! I go through the same blues in the summer - our summers are long and absolutely brutal (hello Houston) and my mood truly is in the trenches the last stretch of it. These tips can work for all kind of season blues 🙏 will definitely be implementing them.
🙌🙌🙌
Hey Cari! Just recently found your vlogs from the algorithm showing me your book channel. I’ve watched like 20 of them haha, but they are so relaxing! Love seeing all the coffee shops and different areas. Thanks for sharing! ❤
Omg thank you so much!
Love Silo! Finding crafty things to do with my hands. Make things, make things - is my winter motto.
맙소사 캐리! 순두부찌개를 밥 없이 먹다니, 있을 수 없는 일이에요!!
The cold and dark seasons have the whole of my heart❄️♥️❄️ But if you absolutely hate autumn/winter, don't give up! It's only 46 days before the spring equinox (here in the north anyway). Happy Imbolc ❄️
🙏🙏🙏
I loved that you watched Twin Peaks in honour of David Lynch. I've been a fan since it aired in 1990 and the loss of David Lynch is huge. What a visionary. Hope you enjoyed it. If you get season 2 hang on in there with it in the middle, as Lynch returned for the last few episodes and he threw away the script. Epic!
🥹🙏
I just started getting into matcha tea abd find tge process of making it so soothing! I am not a winter person at all! I prefer soring and summer with flowers ans sunshine 😅 was blessed with a short trip to the southern states for 4 days which was such a lovely way to start February! I so didnt know about David lynch! 😢 introduced my daughter to its lovely quirkiness this year, will need to binge again! Love your vlogs! 🤟❤️
OMG I love The Fall, it's such a stunning movie! I didn't even know they were releasing a director's cut; good for you for catching it in cinema, it must've looked amazing on the big screen! 😍
Loved the vibe of this vlog ❤ I, too, am very ready for a change of seasons and trying to find beauty in form of whatever little scrap winter throws me, so this was very on point. ☺️
Hope you're having a good time back home in the US! 🎐
Where I live in the Netherlands the weather is usually not great. This year I try to turn the weather in something that guides my hobby, which is making a temperature blanket. Let's see what kind of colour pattern comes out after 365 days. I also made sort of wellness cards. I've written small things on each card and when I have some bad days I can draw a card to see what I'm going to do.
You posted a video years and years ago about Korean literature that you loved and it inspired me to start reading regularly again in 2020. Ever since then, I have been reading at least 100 books a year and I want to thank you for rejuvenating my passion for books. It has enriched my life so much!
yes- winter has been absolutely wrecking my soul. I live in the middle of no where. The closest town in 40 minutes away and there is honestly nothing there. I really wish I could live in a city during the winter months. So I can experience things. Cafes, libraries, meet people, anything :,D
your videos always calm my mind
🥹
Loved how cozy this was, I will be starting Silo this week 🎉
The travel to look forward to…YES! I’m going to Prague and Karlovy Vary with a girlfriend in early April, and it’s definitely helping my winter blues. Do you ever experience a come down after something like that? I know if I don’t almost immediately start planning another trip, I can feel some crash after returning from a vacation.
omg yay I'm so early for once haha!
Thank you so much!!
We got fresh snow ❄️ last night and it’s beautiful here. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get outside and enjoy with not feeling very good.
Thank you for brightening my day Cari.
💖✨
Hope you start feeling better 🥹🙏
@@caricakes, Thank you 💖
Hi Cari, wishing you and Kurt all the best for 2025, the year of the snake 🐍 find your channel fun, love ❤️ your holiday blogs, take care from Australia 🇦🇺 😊
Have a great winter, Cari! ❄️🌨️
You too 🤍🤍🤍
the twin peaks soundtrack is incredible dark winter night walking music, highly recommend
Walks and warm soups/stews are my favorite in winter!
girl your sketch looks so good :') I could never
Living in Canada I feel this video in my bones, winter can be hard. I wish I could go on walks more but the city I live in isnt the best/safest for walking and since I have a dog, I love walking with him but sometimes it's just too cold or dangerous with the streets being iced over and I cannot go without him because then I feel SO guilty ughhhh can wait for warmer days 😅 great tips tho, I do struggle with getting out the house after dark!
The Fall is one of my favourite movies I saw randomly when I was in high school that made me fall in love with movies. I just watched it a few hours ago, so what serendipity it's showing up here in your vlog. So cool you go to see it in theaters!
I had never heard of it until it came to theaters here and im so happy i got to see it too!!
It was a nice day today where it was blue skies, warmth emitted by the sun, and just in the mid-60s. Got to walk around my neighborhood for 30 mins and it was amazing!
Companion was actually pretty good, if you're looking for more movies to watch. Love your content as always! You're one of my comfort TH-camrs
I discovered the Fall a few years ago and it is truly one of my favourite films of all time. I have not been able to shut up about it but no one seemed to know it. I'm so glad it gets some recognition now❤
Cari it makes me so happy seeing you promote the Libby App and Libraries! ❤
Planning something for the future is really my best hack to get through the seasonal depression 💜
currently in summer right now in south america, so is quite refreshing watching your vlogs in winter 🤗
omg yes! cannot agree more with having something to look forward to with shows. my bf and i have been watching severance and we binge watched all of season 1 and now we’re fully caught up and it’s our friday evening treat & we get so excited for it. i’ve heard great things about silo! will have to try watching that as well
Omg yesss i am catching up on severance so i can watch with kurt!!
Nothing like making myself tea with some cookies and checking youtube to find a video from you!
Hi Cari!! Just wanted to say I’ve loved the last couple of video thumbnails on both your channels. I don’t even know if you’re trying to do something differently ahah still, they’re so cute + truly eye catching. Your videos feel like a warm hug 🫶🏻
Thank you 🥹🥹🥹🥹
Having sth to look forward to is a very good tip! I try to find beauty in each season but winters can be hard for many. Can't wait to hear more about your February trip 🤭✨️
🥹🙏
thank u once again for another great cozy vlog! have a great trip back home
14:42 love your San Diego Zoo sweater.. watching from North County San Diego ☃️ ☀️
The Fall is one of my favorite movies I’m so glad you got to see it ❤❤❤❤
The innisfree green tea line is really good!!
Right?! Always solid!
Strange Darling is one of the best movies I've ever watched and I'm so upset nobody watched it! I definitely recommend going in blind. I enjoyed The Substance, but it was maybe like my 4th favorite horror film last year.
Silo was so good, can’t wait for season three!
thank you for your tips and beautiful sketch!
Loved your sketch!
Will you ever do your top 10 or top 15 cafes of all time now that you’ve lived there a long time?
I wish I could walk more during the winter, but we have sooo much snow! And if we're not covered in snow the ground is an icy death-trap 😢❄️😩
I am SO scared of ice 😭😭😭
@caricakes i HATE walking when the ground is icy 🧊 I have a constant fear of falling and my whole body is so tens it's exhausting...
It's beautiful to look at tho 🤩😅
Lee Pace in The Fall is a dream! So glad this movie got justice with that new release.
And its been in theatres for a long time! I thought it was just a short rerelease but 😍😍😍
Flying to Seoul tomorrow! 🎉❤
Safe travels!!!
Absolutely adore Libby! I agree it's life changing. When I first found it I couldn't believe I could read all these audiobooks for free! Last year I read about 115 books and only 9 were physical. It's a game changer. ❤
Right?!!!! Libraries are the best 🥲
That sketch was so awesome, glad you’re doing things you love ❤🎉
Thank you!!
Literally gasped then you metioned The Fall ❤ An absolutely gorgeous movie.
Soooo stunning!
lovely video as always, cari! since i started to knit, winter has quickly become one of my favorite seasons, so that would be my advice for dealing with gloomier weather and earlier nights: find a hobby that is better suited to colder days! of course i can still knit during summer, but it isn't the same; nothing can beat the feel and smell of wool imo
I actually have some crocheting videos if you want a new yarn hobby ahhaha
@@caricakes omg i have been meaning to get into crochet! one can never have too many yarn hobbies hehe
for me january is the hardest month, it is cold and we have exam season in uni, everyone is getting sick and its cold out so i am really exhausted in january. february is kind of my savior where i finally get to relax and slow down
Happy February 1!
Hi Cari. I don't have much experience with long winters (living in the south), so no suggestions. But I just wanted to send you and others in the comment section a warm hug (imagine tropical breeze too!) and I hope you feel better. Take care💖
Omg thank you so much 🥹🥹🥹
love David Lynch, he trusted his audience. Kristen Stewart has a new sci-fi movie I think it is called Loving.
I genuinely live for Libby, I’ve been using it for years and at one point I had 3 libraries connected (I had lived in 3 states that year.) Amazing. I yell at everyone about Libby.
I was so happy to discover that Libby is available in Berlin, Germany. And I only found out about Libby bc of you, Cari. Now 90% of my reading is done on Libby and I'm consistently all maxed out on loans and holds 😬 like, no pressure but yes pressure. So, thank you for that! 🤣😇
😂😂😂yessssss!!
I love winter. I have fibromyalgia and for some reason my pain is less in the winter. I love reading. Right now I'm reading The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. So far so good. Enjoy your trip to America and all trips. Peace 🕊️
Tarsem Singh's The Fall is so good! I'm so glad you got to see it on a big screen if you never have before.
Definitely the best way to see it!!
봄이 곧 옵니다
Oh you must have missed lunar new year holidays when you could have been able to see beautiful snow scenery in Korea. Anywho, thanks for the realxing video again and look forward to the next one ♡
“Severance” is an amazing show and they air 1 episode of the second season weekly now!
Yessss Severence! The best on Appletv
Im halfway thru season 1!!
Early! Love your videos :D

Lee Pace in The Fall is EVERYTHING
🙌🙌🙌
Aaahh Cari!!!!! I am so sorry if this is an exceedingly easy thing to find, but! WHO is the artist at about the 10-11 minute mark?! I have instantly fallen in love with the tune and the lyrics and this song now NEEDS to be a part of my life. I tried googling the lyrics, I have spent the last hour haunting your Spotify playlists, help! Cari, anyone reading this, the actual artist- who is this? Name of song?
thank u 🧡
i’m also recovering pinterest pinned - it’s actually one of my goals this season to do all the cozy homey things i’m guilty of pinning
😂🙏🙏🙏
I went to go see Companion recently and recommend it! Definitely leaves you thinking afterwards
winter blues fr hittin this past monthh 😭
we’re almost halfway through 😭😭😭
Omg, The Fall! I love that movie! Always telling people about it for years, so glad they’ve released a director’s cut! Is Korea quite safe after dark? I lived in Japan & felt very safe after dark there… Thanks for all the tips to survive winter! 💕
I can't believe you missed the opportunity (in your "go for a walk!" spiel) to say "Welcome to my Ted Walk" :)))
Love your videos always, it's what I (mostly listen to) of a chill morning.
Omg nooooo 😂😭😂😭😂
I love Innisfree's green tea range, but the rebrand made it smell less green-tea-ish and that made me sad because I loved the original smell!
