Buying a Private Jet in Cash and Flying It 1,800 Miles Home!

  • We bought a Cessna Citation 501 private jet sight unseen then flew it home nearly 2,000 miles across the country. Buying a private at 27 and 23 years old is wild! Been dreaming about this for years. Can't wait to share videos about jet ownership, maintenance costs, fun $100 hamburgers flights, etc. Should we upgrade the interior, panel, or paint?

      I was thevguy that pre-flighted the trainer before you got there as well as the guy who sat behind the curtain and gave you all types of problems to work through. I E. Aft, compartment, fires, failed, landing gear, missed approach due to the equipment on the runway, whatever Switch I could throw to give you problems. Most likely didn’t like me at the end of your flight but loved me three years later when something wrong happened on your plane and you knew what to do. Thank you for your service.

    The blend of a chill vibe (fist bumps and general enthusiasm) combined with real CRM and true professionalism in terms of the execution of the flight has got to be one of the best things we can be showing the next generation of pilots. I can't help but notice the number of older/senior pilots in the comments pointing out what a kick they're getting from seeing these guys realize their dreams and doing it the right way. It's great to see that great content does NOT have to involve people acting like idiots. Hats off to all involved and congratulations on your purchase!

      I was impressed by the professionalism as well. I watch Mentour Pilot and 74 Gear videos and the amount of stupid mistakes some pilots make because they're not as focused as the people who were piloting this plane are is incredible. Aviation at that level is not an easy thing to do. Being an entrepreneur requires an incredible amount of dedication, hard work and long hours. If you love what you do though, it's worth it.

I still have all but the bonanza, I traded it off for a Cirrus SR 22, witch i cry thinking about how big a mistake that was. Still to this day I’ve never been the owner of a turbo fan aircraft like that, although I am the chick, captain aboard the bombardier global, 7500, long range, business class jet! Broke a world record on the longest range ever flown in a business class jet, Singapore nonstop to Tucson, Arizona, about 8200 nautical mile nonstop.

    As someone who attended games 1, 2, and 6 of the 1977 World Series, I can't see an early 501 without remembering who was the first fatality in one, when N15NY crashed. Fly it by the book, don't skip any checklists, and be really sure of your flaps and airspeed on takeoffs and landings. I also flew into DTW over the wreckage of a DC-9 that forgot to check the flap setting.
    Having said that, I've always loved the idea of having a single-pilot jet in general, and a 501 in particular, but never seriously enough to make it a priority. Congrats to all involved. Fly safe, and milk every remaining hour out of those engines while going easy on the temperatures.

    When I was 23 I was flying B-52's in SEA. I never dreamed of being a pilot until the month after I graduated from college, when the draft board said they needed my body in Viet Nam. I wasn't hot to join the army infantry, so I enlisted in the Air Force and they decided to put me in the cockpit for the next 5 years. Your video reminded me of how much I miss flying, even now when I am 81. I hope you appreciate not having to deal with the draft and being able to live your young lives in the manner you choose. I admit that I loved the years I spent flying, but it prevented me from going to medical school as I had planned and at 28 I was considered too old for that after I was discharged. Keep following your dreams and be safe in the air and on the ground.

    15:32 For those wondering- 374 gal's x $4.75 Jet A fuel price = $1776.5 top op cost. If the plane was completely empty when they bought it would have been nearly $2700 to fill up. Which in the grand scheme of things isn't too terribly bad.

    • @robertvasquez240
      @robertvasquez240 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Would you pay $1700 to take a commercial flight that flies the same 1,800 mi. route (only it doesn't have to stop for refueling)? Don't get me wrong: I'm all for general aviation flying, but the costs to own a private jet (or even a relatively "inexpensive" propellar-equipped Cessna 172 or Piper Cherokee) add up very quickly. Hangar spaces alone can cost anywhere from $500-$1,000 a month (depending on the airport/location--possibly more at a major airport), and then add insurance, fuel costs, and the dreaded TBO costs and other maintenance/inspection costs and other things that routinely need replacing (like tires, landing gear parts, windows, broken gauges/avionics, etc.), and you're looking at a sizable amount of money each year (approx. 10-20% of the plane's cost). That requires deep pockets. I wish you all the best!😂
