It is so exciting to be picking tomatoes, I think it's my favourite harvesting. We always grow Tumbling Tom in tubs and they are very early and so prolific. If you like an acid tom for sauces that is your man. The skins need to be taken off via dunking in boiling water or freezing then defrosting. They make superb pasta sauce if you are not keen on the traditional sugary type. Today we picked the first Sunstripe as it had split with all the rain. A nice salad tom I think. Will have to wait for the true flavour when the weather dries up a bit. I can hardly wait fot my first Crimson Crush....nearly there, yay!@
Hey Jessie, What a fun video, The travel videos are just a joy and you do them so well. The allotment looks so nice. I loved the tomato and cucumber salad. We will be getting tomatoes in the next 7 - 10 days just one at a time now. See you next week be safe take care bye now Steven
Hi Jessy it's was fun to see the video you are such fun smile that make me feel happy to see you at the allotment. I will go to homebase to get more seed. Thank for your videos .
I have tried shade cloth on it and it didn't make that great a difference. Its brilliant on the greenhouse for some reason but not so effective on the poly!
Most of the tunnel houses I have seen with it on, that it has been successful on, have sides that roll up, so maybe that is the difference. I plan on putting shade cloth over my garden this year, our summer sun burns my tomatoes.
Hi Jessie, that smell before / during rain is just the best isn’t it! (Think it’s called petrichor?) So glad the weather broke and we got some rain! I think the spring onion and turnip bed seeding looked brilliant - I should do more of the watering the drill before and compost afterwards as we got mixed germination on a few rows of carrots this month. The cima di rappa seeding idea looked great. We don’t do much self seeding. We do have patches of club root though. The festival at Jodrell Bank looked great. Had a few mates go but I was in Bucks at a history festival! Sorry about the Manchester rain! Cheers, Andy
Hey Andy! Yeah Petrichor is one of the finest words out there isn't it! I wanted to call my hamster that when i was a kid but ended up calling her Suzuki hahah! I'm interested to see how the Cima di Rapa comes up because i know brassicas are supposed to cross pollinate like crazy but the previous accidental ones have been fab so... we'll see! Cheers!
@@JessieatPlot37 That would be the best name for a hamster somehow 🤣 (Suzuki coming a close second of course!) You never know - you might get a random Cima variety and something really tasty! Andy
Hello! Apologies, some people are saying they can't see the video. TH-cam seems to has its knickers in a twist - give it a min and it seems to start working.
I’ll be interested to see how the north holland blood red spring onions work out. I’ve had terrible problems with decent germination from two different seed companies over the last couple of years (not Mr Fothergill’s). It’s a shame because they’re very tasty!
Hi Jess, great video . Looks like you had a great time ☺️. Good for you 🙂. I like to see how your mushrooms doing when you have the time. Also, do you remember I think it was last year when your sister or a friend ( I don't remember exactly) gave you a chayote. Did chayote survive? My chayotes two year's now I am trying to grow them ,are only leaves 🙄. Thanks again for the video it was fantastic. I can't wait to watch your next one. Say hello to your mum. Even we know she's back, still missed her. Greetings from Eastbourne East Sussex Kalli 😊
Thanks Kalli! Sadly the Chayote (that was what i had as a Chow chow?) Didn't survive the winter. I'm on the hunt for another one to put in a more protected spot!
@@JessieatPlot37 Hi Jess, and thanks for answering 😊 I know is a plant for warm climates. But, its give you any fruits during the summer? Sorry I am asking again and again but I am trying to find out if it's worth it to grow them or not. I asked you about the mushrooms because I am interested to grow some too. I really like the idea from your video. Happy gardening. I can't wait for your next video 😊😊
@@JessieatPlot37 That is good to hear...they are quite difficult. On a lighter a note, is the Blue Dot Festival exclusive to Manchester? Cheers, Rachel
So enjoyed that video. The festival footage was awesome and I bet the talks were so interesting. Not sure about time travel but interesting all the same. I love those mind bender theories. As always plenty of laugh out loud moments. Here in New Zealand its cold and damp and I have the head cold from hell. So cheers for sharing 😎👍
The rains and then skies looked lovely after the 40 degrees temps! Loved the escapee and how dare you not share your lunch ! It’s the same with mine as I pass by with my arms full of things for dinner the chicks are appalled it’s not all for them. I’ve been do reading on seed saving and thought most brassicas quite happily cross pollinate, so it’s interesting to know you’ve had success with the cime de rapa. I’ve been understanding you need at least 200 metre distance between crops. Or do you feel yours were not in flower at the same time as other brassicas? So far I’ve only saved some arugula aka rocket which was frankly a fluke to find they never cross with anything else. The bonus being it grew nicely this year Glad you two enjoyed the festival-I should but don’t have the energy for carrying that much gear or camping in the rain any longer. 😂😂
Ah, it was bliss after all that heat Leanne! Yeah, interesting with the Cima di Rapa. I've never collected seed from brassicas for that reason but the self seeded Cima (accidental) was fantastic! Maybe it was fluke and it wont work this time but can only try!
Oh Molly!! I'm such a nincompoop! I was in such a stress trying to get it to upload here i completely forgot. And i'm reading this so late too. I'm sorry!!
Petrichor is the name of that unique smell that comes with rain. It's the smell of the UK when you have been away for a while x
Yeah, Petrichor is one of may favourite words. I wanted to name my hamster that when i was a kid but she ended up Suzuki hahaha!

I'm interested to see how the Cima di Rapa comes up because i know brassicas are supposed to cross pollinate like crazy but the previous accidental ones have been fab so... we'll see!
Cheers!
@@JessieatPlot37 That would be the best name for a hamster somehow 🤣 (Suzuki coming a close second of course!)
You never know - you might get a random Cima variety and something really tasty!
Andy
Hello! Apologies, some people are saying they can't see the video. TH-cam seems to has its knickers in a twist - give it a min and it seems to start working.
Lurved this! Thanks for sharing! 👍😁
:D thanks Joanne!
It's not always cold in my neck of the woods. Jodrel Bank is brilliant isn't it?
Hahaha! Yeah, Jodrel Bank was phenomenal derek!
Hi Jessie, I got seeds at Asda yesterday for 40p s packet.
Bargain Andrew!
Ok here now i Glos.thank you Jessie x
❤😍
:D
Great Video Jessie, Love the Swing Seat, what make is it, may look for one for the bottom of my garden by the pond, I have just the space for it 😂
Be careful Denise! Its lethal! :D
I’ll be interested to see how the north holland blood red spring onions work out. I’ve had terrible problems with decent germination from two different seed companies over the last couple of years (not Mr Fothergill’s). It’s a shame because they’re very tasty!
Ah interesting Julia! Actually in the vlog thats going up this afternoon i noted that they are much slower than the other variety i sowed!
Thanks for redoing, problem fixed!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

:D
That den looks fab! Is that cover waterproof? What fun! Amazing festival. Everyone looked like they had a great time!
It is! I'm looking forward to hiding under there in the rain. :D
can you see the North /South divide. I fish near Jodrell at Capesthorne Hall that is worth a visit.
It was a gorgeous area!
@@JessieatPlot37 Hi Jess, and thanks for answering 😊
I know is a plant for warm climates.
When you were sowing those onions in the garden bed I saw lots of bugs crawling around the soil. What are they? 😮
Greetings,
I may have asked this already...do you get the Vine Borers? They are so evil!
Love your gardening jeans.
Cheers,
Rachel
So far Rachel, no vine borers here!
@@JessieatPlot37
That is good to hear...they are quite difficult.
On a lighter a note, is the Blue Dot Festival exclusive to Manchester?
Cheers,
Rachel
Its working fine for me so far
I can see it it's such a great vlog as alwaya
So enjoyed that video. The festival footage was awesome and I bet the talks were so interesting. Not sure about time travel but interesting all the same. I love those mind bender theories. As always plenty of laugh out loud moments. Here in New Zealand its cold and damp and I have the head cold from hell. So cheers for sharing 😎👍
It was such a great weekend Finnroo! I envy your cold and damp, we are desperate for rain down south. Manchester isn't sharing!!
The bonus being it grew nicely this year
Glad you two enjoyed the festival-I should but don’t have the energy for carrying that much gear or camping in the rain any longer. 😂😂
Ah, it was bliss after all that heat Leanne!
Yeah, interesting with the Cima di Rapa. I've never collected seed from brassicas for that reason but the self seeded Cima (accidental) was fantastic! Maybe it was fluke and it wont work this time but can only try!

I think you’ve forgotten to load on Patreon Jessie! Xx
Oh Molly!! I'm such a nincompoop! I was in such a stress trying to get it to upload here i completely forgot. And i'm reading this so late too. I'm sorry!!
@@JessieatPlot37 ha ha no worries I found it here, just wanted to know you were ok 😍
What are all the bugs in the bed?
I've got to ask - what's that thing you have on top of the tripod at 3:58?
Oh thats the bit that hold the phone!
