Tires are actually the #1 key component that makes your car handle great. A novice doing suspension work can get somewhat dangerous though as I've seen a BRZ with some very expensive KW v3 on spin out and smashed his front end into a wall. He even had RE71Rs on the car and it still spun into the wall. Coilovers is actually the #1 thing we, the autox and track community, tell novices not to get into because you really need the driver skill level to make full use of it.
Tires and brake pads / ss lines are the mods that personnally made the most différence on confidence on track and overall driving pleasure. Stock brakes just don't have the necessary endurance to last for a lapping session let alone a full track day. Of course it dépends on the base car, but that's m'y personnal expérience on it
Yup. Got my car with after market coils already so just dialed them in to my liking. Just purchased wheels to run tires and ive already done a few test and yeah breaks are 100% a necessity . Pads and rotars are one thing but mean nothing without the proper fluid. When that fluid gets hog after just a few laps sll the money you spent elsewhere is just a waste especially when you end up into a wall
Everybody overthinks this and it leads to “just one more part...” syndrome, keeping you from the track. Any properly maintained car is ready for the track. If anything running crappy, but otherwise safe tires will teach a new driver important skills like how to deal with squirmy tires and brake fade. Stop buying parts, use the money for entry fees, and just get out there and have fun.
Hey guys 👋 I've recently got interested in cars watching a ton of videos from wheels to engines all of that. I own a 2003 VW Passat V6 Engine. I haven't made any mods yet, but I plan on doing my first mod to be Coil overs. I dont want them to lower my suspension all the way low (because roads in my area aren't the best) I just want my suspension to be lowered a little bit (maybe an inch or 2 idk) my question is. What type of coil overs should I look into that wont break my wallet but also give me a lowered and comfortable ride? Thanks Guys 🤙
I contest. 1# if your unable to do inspections take it to a certified professional and have your car looked over first. You won’t be permitted to run when you show up if you have large cracks in windshield. Leaking oil. Parts of the car not properly secured, worn out suspension components. Bad wheel bearings ball joints ect. There’s no refunds if you show up with a car in a poor state of condition #2 brakes. Most people over think this one but you don’t need to go all out. But I would put having your fluid changed out for a racing DOT 4 fluid as most important. Fallowed by some Sort of track rated pad of your choice. Just to keep it simple, cheap and most effective #3 tires. Tires are EVERYTHING and will always make the most drastic differences in your lap times. For a beginner something in the 300 treadware category will serve you well for a longevity, price and performance. Have a look around and see what benefits you can gain from the options out there. Better tires help you stop faster and take corners a lot faster l #4 suspension note: lowering your car will make the best bang for your buck in this category. If done correctly being NOT cutting springs and doing other hokey modifications, they give it the look of being lowered. Good runner up for that would be adjustable sway bars to tune the handling characteristics eg. To much under or over steer? Can be tuned out by making adjustments and getting the car to rotate how you like #5 Least important mod and which is more so considered to be a luxury mod is POWER. Power is great to have but it’s useless without all the other mods being done first. I’ve mollywapped cars that show up with 2-3 -4 time the hp but arnt properly prepped for running the track and even some that are Bonus: aerodynamics. This is for that last cutting edge of performance. It is highly suggest ed you do your home work befor touching this stuff and can be very easy to screw up learning and understanding wind paths hi & lo pressure areas . Down force. Lift and cooling ect is a thing of its own nature. And In most cases should all be done in one shot. To prevent imbalances or cooling issues. Every car is different
weird coincidence that I was looking at and thinking of wearing my reptar shirt when he was talking about the new shirt...I didn't wear my reptar shirt..
