I used an online calculator to compare my old rims plus tire size and reverse engineered a match to wider rims.. My 18x7.5 with 225/45 looks the same with 18.x8.5 with 255/40
I took 3 months of looking checking, price comparing, reviews reading, etc etc before I ordered a tire wheel set for my Camaro. It was all worth it. I love how they look and I get a lot of compliments on it.
Didn't know jack about tires when wanting to buy my wheels. Spent 3 weeks reading about tire sizes and what all those numbers meant plus going to that Fitment Industries website and looking at exactly what I wanted. Turned out amazing and I didn't have to get embarrassed at the tire shop when getting them installed because it actually looked like I knew what I was doing lol
I made the mistake of getting 205 on a 17x8 thinking I was gonna fit in with all the cool kids. Big surprise I wasn't, since then I'm sticking with 225 since more meat means more ride comfort without much sacrifice to sportiness.
Here's the thing. It is impossible to tell if low profile tires are low on air or even flat. Especially at night. For less than $50 I have screw-on caps. They have accurate temperature and pressure sensor valve caps. They transmit real time info to a solar-powered head unit. NO WIRES or internal sensors!!! You can even rotate your tires...just keep the valve caps in the same place. Batteries in valve caps last a couple years and are user-replaceable. All sorts of customizable alarms can be set by the user. Amazon baby!
5:56 that actually happened to me after I had mounted my TSWs, but then the car stopped being stupid and finally cleared the TPMS light as I had transferred my factory TPMS over to my new wheels instead of having to drop more money for a new set. As for All Season tires, I live up here in Colorado and I'm always hitting the mountains, but I'm hitting those corners hard and fast in BFGoodwrich Comp 2 A/S tires. I've never ran any other tire because of just how bi polar our weather is. It can be super duper nice out, perfect for hitting the mountains and suddenly your hit by the massive amount of snow or heavy rains the next day, but then the day after it can bright and sunny again or Colorado's most common weather type during everything except Summer: Boost Weather. All Seasons have never failed me, they stick alot more than you'd think in good weather and grip when they need to during snow. Maybe get a teeny, weenie little wheel spin with them when up in the mountains because I do like to leave my ST without TC and ESC on because I can't be alittle bitch, but when I do leave them on, the car sticks to the ground with those tires.
you'd say they are better than dws06? im looking for good all seasons and my car came some perrelli cinturos they are pretty decent but i want to get some really nice tires around $500 total
Buying used tires with plenty of threads while not checking the manufactured date. Slap on my car and it was hockey puck hard and wore out like it was made of chalk.
Pro mother-humping tip! Not every 275/40/17 are all the same as far as how the tire sits on the rim lip. Some tires sit inside the lip and some sit a little outside. Found this out the hard way...
I have a Nissan 370Z sport 6MT and when it came time to replace the OEM Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires, that only got about 15K miles on them, I went with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. The upfront cost of the Michelins was higher than most, but the cost per mile over the 35K miles that I ran the tires was actually less than most of the 23 other brands of tires that I had been considering. This tire was a 300tw tire that was warrantied for 30K miles, but was cut in half because I have a staggered fitment that wouldn't allow tire rotations. The tires wore completely uniformly across the tread and even still had a little tread left when I replaced them after 35K miles. As much as I liked the tires, the only drawback for me was the slightly vague steering and lack of high precision, that I attributed to the extremely flexible sidewalls. The replacement tires that I just put on are the Pilot Sport Cup 2(240) connect. They'll probably get less mileage but the steering definitely feels better and the ride quality hasn't suffered noticeably. They won't be as good on wet roads but that is not a problem for me. The moral to the story is that sometimes there is real value in some of these better tires, even if they are more expensive initially. Do the research on the tires that match your driving style and the road conditions you expect to operate in and don't be afraid to spend a few bucks more for a good tire. You won't be sorry in the long run.
My mistake was running Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval AS on an 09 Impreza. It didn't take long for those tires to sound like truck tires. The ride was ok, it lacked in the water traction department but they did last a good bit.
My biggest mistake was buying 100 treadwear tires for the street and expecting good life out the rears. Forget about it!!!! I switched to Michelin Pilot Super Sports 300 treadwear and now getting incredibly good life on my E46 M3. Not exactly track tires but great for the street. 265/35-18 squared.
Measure twice, cut once. It's 2019, there are so many forums, and websites, that have pictures & build threads. You should only blame yourself if you buy tires, and they aren't what you thought they would be. DO YOUR RESEARCH!
I put my stock 245/35 on my 19x10.5 wheels because they only had 2k miles on them and it was a real pain in the ass finding a shop willing to do it for less than $300. Most Shops hate stretching tires... at least here on Maui
Great tips, but you should mention one thing rookies don't do when buying tires. Thanks to UTQG, you can actually gauge how fast a tire will wear out, and also, how much traction they can give. Only winter tires don't need/have UTQG so don't freak out if they don't have it. UTQG of below 200 is usually very grippy tires and wear out faster, and the bigger numbers means they last a lot longer, with the corresponding decrease in performance. Great tip about the TPMS, for me they are a wallet saver as running low on tire pressure on expensive tires can really eat your wallet alive, and makes for a great peace of mind. Warning light comes on, then it's time to check all the tire pressures, some even come with temperature sensor so it's great to see if the tires are overheating.
Ya know I ask about nankangs at my local time shop they sold me Delintes since they are the cheapest for 275/40/20. Not sure how true it is. Nice tire but it is def not a Nitto
You should've said how awd, rwd and fwd affect the handling there for which tires to get for certain ones. Nobody wants to see slicks on the back of a fwd car😠😡
picked up some Advan Racing GT wheels and gonna set them up on Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's for my 370z and have them mounted in about 1.5 weeks. can't wait!
Finding this charm from the past, I just got 245/45R17 tires on my ND Miata was not paying attention to the aspect. If only I saw this video from 3 years ago sooner.
I've only ever bought new tires in pairs for the front and then proceeded to buy every used tire for the rears cuz all I ever did was burn tires street drifting lol. I actually purchased my first brand new set of r888 tires for my Stagea last year and I turned 35 this year 😂🤣😂
If you can't afford coilovers, go with sleeves, and if you want better suspension, go with kyb's. But I've had sleeves for 3 months now, zero issues, and i still have lowering springs on the rear.
My local tire shop sold me aftermarket wheels and tires a few years ago. Now when I need new tires years later. He says his shop won't touch aftermarket wheels. And nobody else within 100miles from here will neither. Very sad 😥
Winter Tips From Sweden. F**k all seasons! they suck and isn’t good for anything. In winter conditions always use real winter tiers, preferably studded ones as studded tiers are a million times better if you where to drive over a spot of ice. But most importantly SLOW DOWN and remember that your stopping distance is greatly increased.
I went Nexen partly due to forum recommendations for all season/grip but also because they're Korean and I drive KDM so I kinda wanted to keep the theme all around.
The reviews were good, and the price was right, but I won’t be buying them again. Look is weird, and they slip for me in the rain, and I’m driving cautiously.:/
Learn to drive fast on 205/65r and you will be even faster on a better hardware. A larger sidewall ratio equals forgiving and comfortable ride. Excellent attributes for street cars that actually get used day to day. Low profile tires crack rims.
I want 18×9.5" wheels for square set up on an E46 M3. 265/35-18. Same offset so I can rotate them. I'll run 20mm spacers in the rear. I think offset of 35 will fit my fronts with no spacers. And then I run 20 mm spacers in the back. I want concave spokes no lip. Talk to me. I run Brembo Gran Turismo BBK that fit under my current 18in Wheels which are good but ugly D-Force LTW. Tires are four 265/35-18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport or Michelin Pilot 4s.
Bought the new Michelin’s PS4S, best tires I’ve ever driven on but damn they are so gripy they pick up all the little stones and spray them at your wheel-well. Annoying but would buy again lol.
Did AutoX a few weeks back and was sick of the ass end kicking out and not having much grip. I had all season tires that came with the car ('15 Hyundai R-Spec Coupe). I went big and got 225/245 Michelin Sport Cup 2s. I also have 20mm /25mm staggered set up. Haven't gone to the track but from road use I can tell a major difference. Whenever I would do normal daily driving and corner and very mildly accelerate I would get wear hop. Like 2k rpm wheel hope in 2nd, ridiculous. The power definitely feels more planted. Since they are rated Extreme Performance Summer I was expecting a more rough ride but not the case and actually an improvement. I must have had really shitty tires before. The one downside and this is nitpicking but the tire look is too busy and doesn't look as clean. It's not that big of a deal. I see high end cars x5 the value of my car running these types of tires so I may have went a little overboard but so far so good. When I heard them mentioned in the video I feel even better after with the purchase.
I've never had a prob have had staggered ,squared , and regular setups have always picked it right and never regretted my tire size I pic on a aftermarket setup ..thanks for the in depth tho
If you're gonna make a tire buying guide essentially aimed at new buyers, it'd probably be a good idea to explain all the terminology you're using b/c if this video is aimed at "rookies" most rookies will not know what you're talking about and will to google it. Which is kind of pointless tbh. I honestly learned more reading the comments than I did watching the video.
This was a rookie Mistake when buying my car, Bought a GTO in Mid October in Michigan but I thought I had time to replace the summer tires. It snowed one week after buying the car, I couldn't get off of my block
Its good info to have when shopping for what you're looking for vs what they and yourself have available.. Me personally, doesn't affect everyone but for Tires: same price as my local tire shop and around the net prices. As for wheels, sadly you carry only Viper sizes for the 6x114.3 and thats only in Forgedstar brand and I'm not planning on hub swapping or buying bolt pattern kits..
So i got this razer headset with haptic feedback and it vibrates my face when low noises come. Long story short when I hear the intro sounds it feels like I am in ur intro
biggest mistake I made when buying tires was not researching and buy ONE tire when I needed 5 but didn't have the money and the tires were Discontinued
Always look at overall tire diameter when doing staggered setups. Most common staggered setups are 225 front and 255 rear. 235 front 265 rear. 245 front 275 rear. This is for low profile 18 and 19 in tires. Just find a table that gives you the overall diameter in different profiles so the diameters match front and rear. By profile, I mean the second number which is the sidewall ratio. 235/40-18 diameter is 25.4" 265/35-18 diameter is 25.3". To make it very simple and very easy used online application: www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=235-40r18-265-35r18
Do I need to lower car to run your tires? I love in MINNESOTA, potholes and snow probably not the best idea. Do coilovers allow you to make these seasonal changes?
I have been watching ur videos for a while. Please make everything you need to know about HANKOOK tires. And doing some review on the Ventus line. Thank you!
Spent around $700 on all 4 of my tires. The tire technician at the shop told me "if you put these on, the car will not move" I said fuck those guys, went home, removed the wheels. Took them back and had them install the tires. Took them home and put them on myself. Fast forward 2 years and many offroad trials later, they're still rollin
My genesis coupe had a weird tire bug I had 245/35/19 on the front and 275/40/19 and the car would accelerate on it’s own on a speed higher than 40 mph
For sure! You can go either way! The all-seasons would work nice however the winter tires are obviously more suited for the weather conditions but both will handle fine!
Rims are 20x10s wide all around, what's your spin on this setup- Michelin Pilot Sport or Nitto Motivo [255/35 Front & 275/35 Rear] vs [265/35 Front & 295/35 Rear]...
I want some proxies R888S for my 2000 Ford Mustang gt and I’ve read the reviews on em and people say they are good at hooking up on asphalt and that do good on rain
I have a question. So I would like to get the Michelin Pilot sport 4s and when I go on your website, there are many types of that tire. I am overwhelmed and don’t know which one of them to get. I would like to put them on a 2007 BMW 3 Series 335i with Niche Essen Matte Black 20x9 35.
I know of a company named "tirestreets" who I met at a car event. should make a video on them and see just how well they perform or how well the tire is crafted
I have en Audi A7 with original 21" rotor wheels. It came with size 275/30 21... What tire brand and what model would you go for?, and would you go for same size?.
I needed tires quick, so I bought 4 news ones , the shop guy said they were the right size. I was in a hurry and when I got home I noticed the tires were too small. This is for a 1996 Ford Ranger truck. The tires now are about one inch less wide, and one inch shorter in height. I only drive this truck around town doing errands, its never on the highways and never hauls heavy stuff. How big of a screw- up is this tire deal ? Can I safely drive with these tires?
I been buying used tires for a while, and I have to buy new ones like every 6-8mths. Sick of that. So I'm looking to buy new tires. Can I get away with buying 2 now, and 2 later or should I just bite the bullet and buy 4? Should I go Michelin? It is really really pricey. I need to find specials. I'm such a rookie when it comes to this.

18x8.5 on a 225/40/18, will I stretch at all? Or have rim protection?
At least a 245 for protection I have 215s and that's a small stretch
no you wouldn’t stretch
recommend a good replacement TIRE for my 2015 Camry SE? ALL OEM.
I prefer Contennental brand
I've never had a prob have had staggered ,squared , and regular setups have always picked it right and never regretted my tire size I pic on a aftermarket setup ..thanks for the in depth tho
If you're gonna make a tire buying guide essentially aimed at new buyers, it'd probably be a good idea to explain all the terminology you're using b/c if this video is aimed at "rookies" most rookies will not know what you're talking about and will to google it. Which is kind of pointless tbh.
I honestly learned more reading the comments than I did watching the video.
Ahaha that starting your tyre search from rear tyres is far too relatable.
What kind of vehicle are you looking for?
what's the background music on the video? 0:19
I use to run pirelli tires and didn’t like them I have the Michelin pilot sport 4s, and honestly best set of tires I’ve had.
235/40-18 diameter is
25.4"
265/35-18 diameter is 25.3".
To make it very simple and very easy used online application:
www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=235-40r18-265-35r18
Will a staggered setup work or be beneficial for a fwd car? Such as a scion tc
Do I need to lower car to run your tires? I love in MINNESOTA, potholes and snow probably not the best idea. Do coilovers allow you to make these seasonal changes?
I believe we answered your question on facebook! If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
I have been watching ur videos for a while. Please make everything you need to know about HANKOOK tires. And doing some review on the Ventus line. Thank you!
Do you know how hard it is to find tires for my first gen rx7
my biggest mistake was trying to be hotboi and run 18x9.5+35 all around when the front fenders can only fit a 235
I wish I knew about the tps on my g37 before a bought my setup cuz it's Christmas everyday bois!
Video helped me so much! Closing in on making that purchase!
Glad we could help! Thank you for your support!
What the best tyre on 14" wheel?
Any recommendations.
Driving a Honda fit gk3
My genesis coupe had a weird tire bug
I had 245/35/19 on the front and 275/40/19 and the car would accelerate on it’s own on a speed higher than 40 mph
What about a meaty tire setup on stock wheels? I wanna get my stock wheels refinished
This might be a dumb question but, is it alright if you put winter tires on your AWD or just keep your all-season tires on?
For sure! You can go either way! The all-seasons would work nice however the winter tires are obviously more suited for the weather conditions but both will handle fine!
Rims are 20x10s wide all around, what's your spin on this setup- Michelin Pilot Sport or Nitto Motivo
[255/35 Front & 275/35 Rear] vs [265/35 Front & 295/35 Rear]...
Rookie Mistakes when Buying Rims
they already made a video on that
Antoine Dawnson really dam
I want some proxies R888S for my 2000 Ford Mustang gt and I’ve read the reviews on em and people say they are good at hooking up on asphalt and that do good on rain
First mistake you didn't go to FitmentIndustries.com
BIIIIG FACTS! 😅
We now have an intro
I have a question. So I would like to get the Michelin Pilot sport 4s and when I go on your website, there are many types of that tire. I am overwhelmed and don’t know which one of them to get. I would like to put them on a 2007 BMW 3 Series 335i with Niche Essen Matte Black 20x9 35.
Im ordering work kiwamis and 255/40/r19 XL hankook Ventus v12 and 275/35 in the rear the wheels are 19x9.5 + 15 and the rear are 19x10.5 + 12
I'm thinking about some Yokohama Advan Apex tires for my Dodge Stealth. I'm running the stock rims.
Time for snow tire season
I know of a company named "tirestreets" who I met at a car event. should make a video on them and see just how well they perform or how well the tire is crafted
I have en Audi A7 with original 21" rotor wheels. It came with size 275/30 21... What tire brand and what model would you go for?, and would you go for same size?.
continental dws06 good or bad n why? go!
Whats a good tire size for a Honda Civic 2door Coupe. Sport Or Racing compound
Wait. All those numbers at first "mistake", dose it counts for EU two ? Or it is like only for america ? Like meter vs miles and km vs mph
What would be the best tire and rim size for functionality and looks. On a Volvo v70 2000 Base model, that will be driven on the regular? Thank you.
What camera do you guys shoot on?
What are the wheels to the right of your head? The 5 spokes?
KNP from Kansei!
@@FitmentIndustries Thanks! They are sweet but doesn't look to be available in a backspacing spec for my GTI
Yaaay thank you Lol I need help with tires soon.
With* 😅 I swear my spellings not that bad Lol
Awesome! Dude!
So you want an e46
I been buying used tires for a while, and I have to buy new ones like every 6-8mths. Sick of that. So I'm looking to buy new tires. Can I get away with buying 2 now, and 2 later or should I just bite the bullet and buy 4? Should I go Michelin? It is really really pricey.
I need to find specials. I'm such a rookie when it comes to this.
