Can You Beat Elden Ring By Becoming The Moon?

- My Elden Ring voyage under the wisdom of the moon. Using only full moon spells and the full moon crossbow on NG+ using a minimalist start at RL80. Rennala's full moon and Ranni's dark moon are high level spells that require no less than 70 intelligence to use. However this run turned to be way more tricky that you might think. There's however another spell that has the word moon in the name, but is not categorized as a full moon spell, namely Adula's moonblade. So I wasn't quite sure about using that one. Good thing in hindsight since it seems to be quite OP. Yet it did end up serving an unexpected purpose.

To be clear, this is quite different than my previous Elden Ring videos. This one is essentially just a compilation of the livestreams of this run, because people who don't have time to watch lengthy streams have requested me to do that. So this is a bit of an experimental video to see how people react to more bite-size versions of livestreams. Obviously the fully scripted and edited videos are my main content, but that takes a long time to produce. So I'm checking to see how well videos like this one can serve to fill in the gaps between the videos that have a longer production time.

Love this idea! These ~1 hour long videos are exactly the type of content I like listening to while working, but simply don't have the time to catch up on 12 hours of a run. Are you planning on using different types of thumbnails between the main videos, highlights and streams? I already have a bit of difficulty separating main videos and VODs from livestreams, and can imagine it getting worse now that the highlights are of similar length to the main videos.
Also for the squeaky voice: I don't know what editing program you use, but most also have a pitch shift built in. For 2x speed up for example, you can shift it down 12 semitones to get the same pitch, ~7 semitones for 1.5x.
If you use another speed, like 6x, just divide by 2 until the number becomes less than two and then look at the table on the Wikipedia page for "Equal Temprament", scroll to section 2.2.3 to which semitone is closest to what is left. (a semitone is 100 cents btw). Here we shift the pitch 2*12 semitones down (6x/4 = 1.5x) plus another 7 semitones for the remaining 1.5x speed.
For me i understand why you made it but if i got to choose i would definatly choose the original editing style.
I agree that if you keep making it you should get rid of the sped up voice. Maybe include some regular speed clips of the end instead of a sped up piece of the whole thing.

I appreciate the slightly shorter videos. I've got a decent amount of time to watch youtube, but not a whole ton. The 1 hourish mark is the sweetspot imo.
I'm pretty neutral on the squeaky voice because it fits in with similar jokes in the channel, but if most don't like it I'd say just pitch shift the audio down until its more normal (there's alot of really good tutorials on how to do it in each software)

the moon spells are what made me wanna go through the game as a sorcerer and it was probably the most fun i’ve had in any souls game!
Sorcerer has always had stigma attached to it because it's the easiest way to PvE (and in the past has not really been PvP-viable), but it's also always been very fun.
I tried sorcerer for the first time in any souls game because of Elden Ring, and my favourite part was the Gideon fight, as it suddenly turned into Dumbledore vs Voldemort halfway through. Magic everywhere.
@@vitriolicAmaranth very true however there have been exceptions, that being dark magic of dark souls 1 (not counting the invisible spell glitch as that has been a glitch in nearly every soulsborne game, always some kind of invisible spell glitch due to desync)
@@dinoshotgun I think dark bead's PvP power is overstated. It can oneshot at point blank but it's super easy to dodge, and it's also very predictable, it just comes out faster than CSS. It's always been possible to win with casting in PvP and felt way more of an accomplishment to do so, of course- A favourite tactic of PvP casters was using spells like dark fog or poison mist to hide their tells so the opponent couldn't tell what spell they were casting or know when to dodge. And of course Force and WOG have always had their uses. The ability to delay WOG in ER is insane, of course.
Ranni's quest made me wanna do it on my second playthrough
So, my takeaway from that video is that the crossbow is the most powerful thing in the game. After all, it killed all those bosses that the Moon spells couldn't.

Honestly, I really like the concept of starting out with some initial things. By now, everyone has a good concept of how to do the early game farm - big dragon, get smithing stones, acquire flask stuff, physik flask, get souls, farm more souls, etc. This saves a lot of unneccessay farming time, for runs where the beginning is not all that questionable to begin with
Naturally, for runs where the beginning is one of the most difficult/lengthy portion, and skipping it would take out a large chunk of the challenge, this wouldn't quite fit. But here, it's neat
Yeah as a general rule I do challenge runs on NG because part of the run is acquiring what you need within the limitations of the challenge. However sometimes it's not feasible on NG, so then in order to keep the sense of progression and acquiring what you need, I want to start in a minimalist way.
I genuinely hope Shadow of the Erdtree provides some kind of skip for the early game because of this
I suppose I could start actually playing NG+, but that has it's own satisfaction issues
If you have trouble with Placidusax's swoop attack. He only creates the aoe effect on the floor where he hits the floor and grinds over it until he comes to a standstill. In order to avoid it, you just have to run towards him when he shows up as a cloud in the sky, roll through his attack and if you've ran close enough, his whole aoe is now behind you. Never had any trouble anymore with it after I learned that.

I’ve never seen malenia get beaten so easily. Color me impressed.
Yeah it was really effective on her, at least during the first phase since she tends to just walk menacingly towards you, so easy free hits. Second phase was different though because she becomes really aggressive and doesn't keep distance anymore. But at least when she is in flower mode you still get free a damage opportunity.
I learned something that trivializes her that isnt bleed or frost. Bolt of Gransax(sp?) the thing will keep her on her ass the whole fight.
Fun fact, Malenia has extremely weak resistance to frostbite. She is also weak to bleed, but her frost bite resistance is only around 300. And she has zero fire resistance. (good resistance to magic and lightning and high holy resistance, mediocre to all phys damage).
Now, when you deal fire damage to an enemy it removes frostbite, allowing you to inflict it again for another big health loss.
So, get a bleed weapon and put the cold affinity on it so you can inflict frostbite and bleed at the same time, and have a means of hitting her with fire (which will hit hard with the frostbite debuff on).
A greatsword that deals fire damage can also easily stagger her out of combos.
My setup: Hoslow's petal whip with the cold affinity (inflicts 50 bleed and 100 frost), freezing pots and the bloodflies spell, then swap to powerstancing gargoyl's greatsword (deals a LOT of fire damage when set to flame affinity) and blasphemous blade.
Oh, and I also summoned my mimic in the double greatswords config because with the both of us hitting her, it staggers her to hell and back and easily outdamages any healing she gets from hitting the mimic.
The first time I tried this I bulldozed her first phase in what felt like 2 minutes and even poise broke her, which made me think of putting flame of the redmanes on either the whip or greatsword (got quickstep on them atm) as that deals crazy pose damage.
Oh, and I also have Agheel's flame for when she does scarlet aeonia.
Btw I'm using great jar's arsenal and eardtree's favor talismans to raise equip load a lot.

The night sorceries have a bunch of unique spells and I think it could be fun to watch. Maybe you could pair it with weapons that also have 'Night' in their names!

In the German translation the Wolf actually is named "Roter Wolf Radagon"
which literally means "Red Wolf Radagon" or "Radagon the Red Wolf"
I was so confused every time he was mentioned, especially once i reached the real Radagon
But once I came along his english name it all became clear
this has been an issue since the lauch and to my knowledge it hasn't been fixed. i really hate it
There seems to be a lot of translation issues in Elden Ring, such as Ranni’s ending, being the most well known one.
In portuguese there are a lot of mistakes too, especially in the descriptions...

Oh is the sped up "chipmunk" voice funny or annoying? I wasn't sure about that one. I often speed up footage, but now I had video and audio in one, meaning my voice would change pitch. So I thought, hey what the heck that might be funny. But that is one of those things that is kind of hit or miss.

Fighting the Red Wolf at all is utterly miserable. Both Morgott and Malenia took me far longer, but neither made me rage quite as much as the Red Wolf in my playthrough as a strength build.

From what I can tell by watching the pathing of the spell and the other spell that interact with it, it actually looks like the moons might have a small amount of gravity to them, if you watch during the Radahn fight his orbs were curving in to hit the moon and get destroyed, might be some neat interactions possible with that
Mostly because the gravity orbs in Radahn's atack curve to hit the player more times, the Moon doesn't seem to have some atraction to range atacks

It's not actually gravity, I'm pretty sure it's just a feature of the spell-absorbing properties of the moons. It could also be, for the arrows at least, that they are curving to the player, which happens in the Radahn fight.
i'm not sure what bolts he was using but as far as i know the full moon crossbow gets bonus damage using meteor bolts i also don't know if it would have made much of a difference
Yeah, but both the red wolf as well as rennala are magic resistant so that wasn't worth it.
Last time I was this early,spells like these had hyperarmor.

Rennala's Full Moon really should have I-frames for the player, at least in PVE. Maybe at least hyper-armour.

I do like that you cut it down from the entire livestream, even though at an hour twenty minutes it's still quite a sit, but much more managable than previous videos you made like this. Also, I definitely appreciate the Moon Theme Remix at the start, that was a nice touch.
Yeah cutting down almost 12 and half hours of footage into something small is quite difficult. So much footage
I'm definitely appreciative too. I can make a couple 45 minute chunks in my day to watch something, but twelve plus hours of a stream.... Sadly not.

Radagon's icon shortens the startup time of the spell cast, not the whole spell (the spell symbol flash portion at the very start). Works on all spells but some spells get more out of it than others because of it being a percentage
Rannis dark moon gives a debuff on enemies that take more magic damage
Both full moon spells have that effect

Just FYI, the adula dragon is easy to cheese from within the chapel that ranni's in. Lots of terrain to get it stuck on and it'll never respawn.

Just to mention - Ranni's Hat increase cold spells damage, so if you have it, you never want to go back to Renalla's moon, even if the boss is cold immune.
Rennela moon does more magic damage. Also Ranni's moon is not a cold sorcery believe it or not. Moon sorcery is a separate category. So it would be ironic if it Ranni's hat doesn't boost Ranni's dark moon. According to the wiki it does though. However, even if it does it doesn't do more magic damage than rennala's moon

The moon spells are actually superb fun for PvP. People often just can't seem to get a real handle on the delay in the cast, the way the projectile speeds up after a short time in the air, the tracking on it, the aoe on the detonation etc. It really can catch people and deal huge damage. I do wish the cast time could get another little buff though.
I think I've dodged every moon thrown at me. It's one of the easiest to avoid imo
All of the spells you've cast throughout this video made me realise that they made a jpeg into a projectile and said "let's make it the super-move of an important character-boss"

if you diddnt know the ancestor when he teleports he actually comes from one of the spectral animals in his arena. then he does moves based on the animal it was... thats why he has 3 sets of moves

i watched the fight against malenia, and since i have the spell i gave it a try...and in fact using rannis moon made the fight so easy...avoid her moves here and there but quite easy ...and i used black knight tishe so that made it even easier lol

If the moon can follow astel when he teleports then it could be intresting to see if the rancor spells and other spells with good tracking can follow him and other teleporting enemies

Yeah, that might have been a bad call on my part. However, when speeding up a livestream that is an automatic effect since the voice over is already present, so speeding it up will change the pitch.

1:09:20 I hope you mistakingly called the radagon icon the Godfrey icon. If you actually put on the Godfrey icon then the “hardly noticing a difference in cast speed” would make sense, as . . . Well that’s not what the Godfrey one does XD
However I’m assuming that wasn’t the case, as the radagon icons effects are quite small, especially compared to azurs staff, which you probably should’ve had in your offhand to increase cast speed.
Woops yeah I meant radagon's icon. And no it's a good thing I didn't use azure staff in my off-hand because the main challenge of the run was the slow casting speed.
Moon Spells and casting speed changes: It matters slightly for the amount off time you're cradled in the moon before releasing it.

As far as I remember, Ranni's Moon also lowers the magic resistance of an opponent. So that could also play into why you did so much damage to Morgott.
Both moons lower magic defense. But Ranni's moon inflicts frostbite, which further lowers defenses in general
The talisman that increases casting speed may not be worth much, but whatever talisman you're using to intermittently speed up the game and talk in a higher voice seems useful.

Along the comment of the moons canceling one or the other out I think it’s be pretty awesome if they made it so that when 2 moons hit it creates a bigger explosion or if two dark moons hit they creat an ice cloud or something

My least favorite time in elden ring... aside from forgetting to go back to the haligtree in my first playthrough, and having to go there for the first time in ng+ was not fucking fun... Was when my mimic killed the elden beast while I was mid death animation. It counted. I got the rememberance. But guess what! No souls to get back. Why's that, you might ask? Well that's because elden beast is a 1 time arena, unlike Radagons. So if you die in radagons, you can get them back. But die while elden beast is dying, and those sweet sweet 1m runes go fucking bye bye. Fortunately it hasn't happened to me since, and maybe they fixed that... But holy shit does losing out on 1m runes fucking suck
