@PulpMortem It's gonna be interesting comparing and contrasting the actual episodes with the books. Not gonna lie; this is quickly becoming one of my favorite projects this month!
Besides the costume it's not. I appreciate seeing a different take on the episode after only seeing only goofy takes for decades . People never mention how it starts with an entire colony getting wiped off the map, with most of the population slain or reduced to babbling madmen due to the horror. Kirk and the gang even get hit by a space-mortar (???) strike. Then an advanced alien culture decides to directly prevent an interstellar war by making two species fight to the death. It's true the episode spends the majority of its time with the deathmatch but it's too bad the gritty space war stuff gets overlooked
As for myself, in October I read: Mary Shelley’s «Frankenstein» (Gothic Science Fiction, with illustrations by Bernie Wrightson: Breathtaking!) «The Land Leviathan» (A Nomad of the Time Streams» Trilogy #2) by Michael Moorcock (Multiverse/Alternative History/Time Travel Steampunk(?)😅) «Midnight Falcon» (Rigante #2) by David Gemmell (Heroic Fantasy/S&S inspired by Celtic Britain and the Roman Invasions and Gladiators) «The City» (City of Victory Trilogy #2) by Adrian Goldsworthy (Historical Military Fiction set during Emperor Trajan’s Campaigns) «The Power Broker» by Robert Caro (Political Biography/Investigative Journalism Classic, my Q4 long-read) Cheers!
Not knowing anything about Amber is the perfect way to start reading it as you will see. I'm debating re-reading it, having read the original eight books a long time ago. My friend likes Amber a lot, I gave him 'The Great Book of Amber' I found at a book sale for a couple bucks which contains all ten books. I think you have to read the first four to get any conclusion to the mystery. The beginning of Nine Princes is spectacular.
Too bad about the Howard Cthulhu stuff, but I'm sort of glad he wrote poorer stuff as well. No fun being perfect. I too read the Warriors of Mars in October. I agree it's nothing special as such, but it was a fun, quick read. Moorcock's fun pulpy style. I enjoyed it like I enjoy a song cover. I might prefer the original Barsoom, but it was enjoyable to read my favourite writer's take on the planetary fiction staple. I gotta admit I was tempted to read along your Lovecraft stuff, but I didn't quite get there. Next year, in all likelyhood. Right now there's too much other stuff I want to prioritize more.
@secretfirebooks7894 I did read my first Poul Anderson story, so it was a good month. Man Who Counts/War of the Wing-Men was a fun adventure. I admit I would have preferred if it was a sword & planet style, but that's no fault of the book. And I read the second Corum trilogy! Great stuff. I think I prefer the first trilogy, but Corum's Corum.
@GoblinOfGygaxinor It's on my list. Literally the only reason I haven't read it yet is because my copy is so old and beat up, it might actually disintegrate if I try to read it. 😂
This is so awesome. I always enjoy your content, learn a lot!
👍
Arena isn't actually that ridiculous, but one of my favorite episodes that starts kinda dark. But yeah, the Gorn costume/fight is goofy. And awesome.

@ThommyofThenn unfairly meme'd to death! Well, maybe not. That gorn is equal parts awesome and goofy!

@MacScarfield That illustrated edition of Frankenstein looks awesome! Great lineup of books, right there 👍
Bernie's the man!

@GoblinOfGygaxinor I'm excited. Been trying to get around to it for a while. The next EEBS stream is gonna be sick!
The Amber books are great fun! Though I've only read the original first 5. Looking forward to your discussion on it!
@@sciencefictionreads It's gonna be WILD! 😁
Man...I forgot I read The Last Kingdom. I need to read the rest of the series.

@@NikoTeaJay Read what you like, man! But I'm definitely gonna do more H.P. stuff all throughout next year. It's a new Halloween tradition for sure!

@NikoTeaJay Nice! I'm gonna finally read the rest of the Corum books next year. That first trilogy is fantastic.
Dude, next time you're feeling like some Sword & Planet, flip that Conan the Conquer double over and hit up The Sword of Rhiannon.

@@secretfirebooks7894 Ha, yea, my Double has the top half the Conan cover sliced off for some reason 😟
@GoblinOfGygaxinor Geez, that's tragic...
